Plan ahead to protect your future
Getting older can mean feeling vulnerable. It may be health related, or losing control to someone who may not have your best interests at heart.Keeping control is the key and the secret to peace of mind as change occurs.
You can retain control by seeking independent help to prepare a power of attorney; a helpful and powerful legal document that lets you choose a trusted person or organisation to make important decisions for you.
In Victoria, you can use an enduring power of attorney to make personal and lifestyle decisions for you, as well as financial and property decisions. You may also appoint someone to make medical treatment decisions under an enduring power of attorney (medical treatment).
You can also appoint someone to help you in your decision making, through the appointment of a supportive attorney. However, the supportive attorney cannot act if you become unable to make decisions about the things you have appointed your supportive attorney to help you with.
State Trustees offer independent advice in these areas and can be appointed as an attorney for financial matters. It’s part of their commitment to ensure people are protected through life’s most difficult times and ensure their legacies live on the way they want them to.
Sometimes it’s the very fact that a trusted, independent party is looking after your affairs, that creates the peace of mind and quality of life you deserve. It can also avoid family feuds or unwanted biases, offering genuine neutrality and fresh perspective.
THIS IS A PROMOTIONAL FEATURE IN CONJUNCTION WITH STATE TRUSTEES.
