How to pick the best weather for caravanning

When you’re planning your next Australian caravanning trip, be sure to consider the seasons before you travel. Travelling during the off season can be cheaper, but it can also be dangerous.

If you travel during the wet periods in the north, for example, near the Victoria River, you may run into flooding and have your travels seriously delayed. During such circumstances, you’ll be in the best shape if you’ve brought along with you enough food and water for a few weeks’ time.

If you travel during winter in Tasmania, you better be prepared for the cold. Bring warm clothing and blankets, and even a heater. As Australia’s most southern point, Tasmanian winters are a lot colder than what we might experience on the main land.

A third thing to consider is the possibility of cyclones. You can listen to the radio, which provides updates on weather emergencies, but should plan ahead to know where shelters are and bring chains to secure your caravan down during such a possibility.
