5 ways weather influences your health and behaviour

Most people agree the weather can affect your mood, but do you know how much it influences your health and behaviour? Here are five interesting ways the climate outside can influence your wellbeing.
1. Rain can make allergies worse
Finding your allergies are worse when the weather is wet? While rain is known to wash pollen away, storms first burst pollen particles and spread the allergens further before cleansing the environment, allergist Warner Carr told The Weather Channel.
2. Sunny days boost your mood
A sunny day equals a sunny disposition, according to a University of Michigan study which found that people who spend at least a half an hour outdoors in warm and sunny weather saw happier moods.
3. Your blood pressure is lower in summer
Due to the change in atmospheric pressure, your blood pressure drops during summer compared to the winter months. The Weather Channel reports, it is because lower temps cause your blood vessels to narrow, which could lead to a spike in pressure.
4. Cool temperatures help you sleep
When your body temperature cools down, it prepares your brain for sleep. According to Natalie Dautovich, an environmental scholar at the National Sleep Foundation, the ideal temperature for sleep is approximately 15 to 20 degrees Celsius.
5. You’re more creative when it’s warm
Research from the University of Michigan shows being outside on a warm day could be linked with increased creative thinking. Study researcher Matthew Keller said, “Being outside in pleasant weather really offers a way to reset your mindset.” He added, “We found there are two important variables: how much time you spend outside and what the season is.”
