Tragic end in search for missing six-year-old

A desperate search for a missing six-year-old girl in southern New South Wales ended in tragedy on Sunday after authorities discovered a body in bushland.

Airlie Montgomery was reported missing in North Nowra at around 2:15 pm, prompting an urgent police appeal for public assistance. Given her young age and medical conditions, authorities expressed grave concerns for her welfare.

The little girl was last seen wearing a hot pink jumpsuit and no shoes, and police launched an extensive search operation to locate her. However, later that afternoon, a body was found in nearby bushland.

While formal identification is yet to be completed, police believe the body belongs to the missing child. An investigation into the circumstances surrounding her disappearance and death is now underway.

NSW Police confirmed that a report will be prepared for the coroner as part of the ongoing inquiry.
