Catch of the day: bride hauls in shark at her wedding!

<p>Most brides on their big day are content with a nice bouquet, a slice of cake and a husband who hasn’t locked his knees and fainted at the altar. But Miccala Toms of Darwin had slightly more ambitious ideas – and they involved beer, fishing and a decent-sized aquatic predator.</p> <p>After saying “I do” to her now-husband Brodie, the couple did what any sensible Territorians would do in the sweltering heat: they swung by the Dundee Tavern for a couple of cold ones and some casual wedding photos. You know – veil, vows and VB.</p> <p>But while some brides might be focused on getting the perfect shot with golden sunlight and maybe a well-behaved Labradoodle, Miccala spotted a local teen fishing off the rocks and thought, “Now <em>that’s </em>a vibe.”</p> <p>“It was a hot day,” Miccala explained on the <em>Today </em>show. “So we thought we’d have a few drinks and take some photos at the front.” The vibe was clearly: bridal glam meets bush telly.</p> <p>The helpful teen handed over his fishing rod – probably assuming she’d hook a little barra or, at worst, a mildly confused crab. But Darwin had other plans.</p> <p>Cue dramatic <em>Jaws</em> music.</p> <p>What Miccala thought would be a cute “bride-with-fish” moment turned into a full-on marine wrestling match when something large, scaly and very toothy yanked on the line.</p> <p>“It was a shark and I’m like, ‘Oh my god, it’s a shark!’” she recalled, possibly while her wedding photographer simultaneously reconsidered their life choices.</p> <p>In true Northern Territory fashion, this bride did not flinch. In fact, she dug in her heels (or possibly bare feet, unclear), while Brodie jumped in to help haul in the unexpected guest star of their wedding album.</p> <p>And because true love is built on mutual support, Brodie did what any man witnessing his wife dragging a shark in her wedding dress would do: picked the beast up by the tail so they could pose together, glowing with wedded bliss and mild concern for their fingers.</p> <p>The shark, possibly the only one more confused than the couple, was photographed before being safely released back into the water, no doubt with a wild story to tell its shark mates. </p> <p>As for Brodie? He knows he’s punched above his weight. “To be honest, I wouldn’t be here without her, that’s for damn sure,” he said. “She’s given me three lovely children and made me the happiest I’ve ever been, so can’t let it go now.”</p> <p>And why would he? When you marry a woman who’ll fish in full bridal gear and take a spill while catching a shark with a beer buzz and a grin... well, you know you’ve found The One.</p> <p>Moral of the story? <p>In a celebration absolutely fit for footy royalty, the families of two AFL greats officially became one, as Ruby Brownless and Josh Wallis tied the knot in a breathtaking ceremony in Noosa over the weekend.</p> <p>Ruby, the daughter of Geelong legend Billy Brownless, and Josh, the son of Western Bulldogs icon Stephen Wallis, exchanged vows in a magnificent event that defied AFL traditions. Despite the league's unwritten rule of keeping key dates like Round 1 and grand final day clear, the happy couple chose to mark their special day as the Cats took the field for their season opener.</p> <p>The wedding was a glittering affair attended by a host of AFL stars, past and present, with family and friends flying in to witness the heartwarming union. Among the high-profile guests was Ruby’s mother, Nicky Brownless, who is engaged to Melbourne great and expert commentator Garry Lyon. With Josh’s brother, Mitch, having played 162 games for the Bulldogs and Ruby’s brother, Oscar, once listed with Geelong, the occasion was a true meeting of AFL dynasties.</p> <p>Proud father Billy Brownless, known for his jovial personality, shared his delight in walking his daughter down the aisle. Calling into his Triple M show the following day, he said, “(It was) beautiful. I’ve had a couple of limoncellos so I’m a bit dusty. We got dropped off at this beautiful area and there was just limoncellos. I didn’t think they had any alcohol in them, and after about seven I had a look and they’re nine per cent!”</p> <p>During the speeches, Billy moved guests to laughter and tears with a heartfelt poem. “When your daughters get married, it’s from the heart,” he said before reciting, “Roses are red. Violets are blue. I love you from here to Timbuktu.”</p> <p>The wedding had been highly anticipated ever since Ruby and Josh announced their engagement in 2022 during a romantic getaway to Hayman Island. Princess Diana's former lover opens up in rare interview

<p>Army Major James Hewitt, who had a five-year affair with the late Princess Diana from 1986, has spoken about the royal in a rare television interview with <em>Good Morning Britain </em>on Tuesday. </p> <p>When asked about whether he thinks Diana may have been able to reunite her sons, who have barely spoken in five years, he replied: "I think any mother would be worried and concerned about such a rift, as you put it." </p> <p>"And she'd do her best to try and get them together."</p> <p>Major Hewitt, who now spends his time doing aid work in Ukraine, revealed that the last time he had spoken to the late Princess was "just after" her <em>BBC Panorama interview </em>with Martin Bashir in November 1995, during which she admitted to their affair.</p> <p>He described the conversation as "distant" and admitted that the interview did "create problems" for him from which he was "trying to move on".</p> <p>After the affair was revealed, Major Hewitt was labelled as a "love rat" by the tabloid media and found his reputation in ruins. </p> <p>He also said that the interview was "very distressing" for the late Princess, as someone she had trusted had used their connection to make money.</p> <p>"It was a stitch-up job," he said of the <em>Panorama</em> interview. </p> <p> "It was appalling of Bashir to [have] inveigled, lied to her, criminal activity, absolutely appalling."</p> <p>"As I've said, I hate bullies and bullying and arrogant people and I think it's appalling."</p> <p>Major Hewitt, who was Diana's riding instructor at the time, has previously denied claiming to have been a "father figure" to the princes but has said that he "played with them, swam with them, taught them to ride".</p> <p>The Duke of Sussex had also addressed the rumours that Major Hewitt was his biological father in his memoir <em>Spare</em>, saying that he felt the rumours were designed to turn him into a "laughing stock".</p> <p>"One cause of the rumour was Major Hewitt's red hair, but another was sadism," he wrote in his memoir. </p> <p><em>Image: Ken McKay/ITV/ Shutterstock Editorial</em></p> <p> </p>

Anthony Albanese shares wedding details

<p>Anthony Albanese and his fiancé Jodie Haydon have revealed details of their upcoming wedding for the first time. </p> <p>Chatting candidly with Australian Women's Weekly, the couple admitted they are planning to tie the knot in a "small, intimate ceremony" in spring after the federal election.</p> <p>"Our wedding will be a moment when we make that commitment," Haydon told the magazine.</p> <p>"We're doing it in front of family and loved ones, and I see that as … for us. It's something we're looking forward to — an important and symbolic way to reaffirm our commitment with each other."</p> <p>Albanese and Haydon are planning on waiting until after the election, which is expected to be held in April or May, to get married in order to not have their big day wrapped up in politics. </p> <p>The ceremony will not be held in a Catholic church due to Albanese's prior divorce but could be outdoors, Haydon added, with their dog Toto playing a role.</p> <p>"It will be small, intimate," Haydon said. Friends charged hundreds to attend birthday party

<p dir="ltr">A woman has been left horrified after receiving an invitation to her friend’s birthday celebration that she would have to fork out hundreds of dollars to attend. </p> <p dir="ltr">In a post shared to Reddit, the stunned guest showed a picture of the invite - which was texted to the recipient's phone.</p> <p dir="ltr">It stated that the celebrations would take place on a Monday between 5:30pm and 7:30pm, writing that friends will be charged $499, while guests of friends will be $250.</p> <p dir="ltr">The invitee claimed that the party for the friend, who is a member of their local council, is being held at a pub. </p> <p dir="ltr">“I posted this after receiving the invitation, it's completely wrong but whatever. It's happening, now it's just shaking our heads and making a joke of the whole thing because of how ridiculous it is,” they wrote.</p> <p dir="ltr">Hundreds of people took to the comments of the Reddit post to express their outrage over the invitation, with many hypothesising that the party is actually a fundraiser. </p> <p dir="ltr">“Yep. 100 percent political fundraiser. There is a separate real birthday party, even if it is just the spouse and kids,” one person declared.</p> <p dir="ltr">“Since the friend is a politician my guess is they're treating it like a fundraiser, but still. Jesus,” someone else added.</p> <p dir="ltr">Many shared their opinions on the extortionate party, with one person writing, “On a Monday afternoon? For $250 an hour? <p>Deborra-Lee Furness has broken her silence for the first time since photos emerged of Hugh Jackman's new <a href="https://oversixty.com.au/lifestyle/relationships/deborra-lee-furness-reacts-to-hugh-jackman-s-new-relationship" target="_blank" rel="noopener">relationship</a> with his co-star Sutton Foster. </p> <p>Furness revealed that she feels as though she is now in “chapter three” of her life following her shock split from Jackman in 2023. </p> <p>Speaking about focusing on her career over her love life, she told the <em>Herald Sun</em>, “I’ve had a few offers for films back here so I’m still reading some scripts so if there’s something that’s great.”</p> <p>She went on to share that she’ll be taking more time for herself now she’s single and able to focus on herself first. </p> <p>“I’ve got some projects in New York. She was told it wasn’t true, and that they were nothing more than close friends who worked together. But something in her heart told her that this was not true."</p> <p>“She trusted her intuition and her intuition was right. She finally feels at ease after getting confirmation that her fears and suspicions were warranted. <p>Aussie actor Guy Pearce and Carice van Houten, the mother of his son, have split.</p> <p>The <em>Game of Thrones </em>actress took to Instagram to confirm their split, and that the pair have remained close as they co-parent. </p> <p>“I don’t usually engage in discussions about my personal life, but because of a number of conclusions in the media last week regarding my relationship with Guy, I wanted to make something clear,” she shared on her Instagram story alongside a photo of the pair. </p> <p>“He and I are great friends and love each other very much, but we haven’t been a ‘couple’ for years.</p> <p>“I am, however, very proud to say we are in a wonderful partnership raising the true love of our lives - our beautiful son. And his hamster. What a love story," another wrote. </p> <p>The couple met at the start of 2024 and got engaged in September after seven months of dating.</p> <p>Lassey is a pastor at the Kingdom City church and is a father to three sons - Tyler, Joel and Luke - from a previous relationship.</p> <p>The couple have been in a long-distance relationship with Lassey being based in Perth and Steph in Dubai, before he popped the question. <p>Celine Dion has shared a heartbreaking tribute to her late husband René Angélil on what would've been their 30th anniversary. </p> <p>The <em>My Heart Will Go On</em> singer took to Instagram to share a photo of the couple on their wedding day with the caption: “You still fill our hearts, every day. You are everything for us. I was living that love secretly,” Dion said in 2016.</p> <p>“When I was at the age to be able to say to people … It was like bang! Love! Love always wins.”</p> <p>The couple got married in 1994 had four years of marital bliss before tragedy struck and Angélil was diagnosed with throat cancer.</p> <p>Although he entered into remission in 2000 and they had their three kids, Angélil was diagnosed with cancer for a second time in 2014. </p> <p>On January 14 2016, he passed away just two days before his 74th birthday. </p> <p>“I think I will probably grieve for the rest of my life,” Celine said at the time.</p> <p><em>Images: Instagram</em></p> <p> </p>
