Sandra Sully on the traumatic event that changed her life

Popular Network 10 news presenter Sandra Sully has talked about being attacked at gunpoint 20 years ago, the traumatic event that change her life forever.
The attacked occurred in November 1997, where Sully was approached by a masked assailant after getting out of her vehicle a little after midnight. The pair struggled as the attacker tried to force her to get back into her car, before he put the gun to her temple and pulled the trigger twice. But for whatever reason, the gun didn’t go off.
The attacker eventually fled the scene, but Sully told Stellar the attack was something that took her quite a while to process, and still affects her to this day.
“It was at least 10 years before I was ready to talk about it to anyone other than my family, and probably 15 years before I felt like I could put it behind me,” she said.
“I still don’t like to be surprised. If someone makes a loud noise, I jump. I am always aware in a carpark.”
Sully says the attack helped her define her barriers.
“I don’t chase publicity for publicity’s sake. Sometimes I think that’s probably hurt me, but it doesn’t fulfil me. I’ve seen the ugly side of that.
