Heartwarming update for baby stabbed during Bondi attack

Six weeks on from the devastating Bondi Junction Westfield stabbing that claimed the lives of six people, the nine-month-old baby who was attacked is continuing her recovery.

Baby Harriet was at the shopping centre with her mother, Dr Ashlee Good, when Joel Cauchi began his crazed attack on shoppers.

One of Dr Good's final acts was to thrust Harriet into the arms of strangers begging them to "please help, help".

Dr Good, an osteopath, tragically died from her injuries but Harriet miraculously survived and was released from hospital on April 21st.

Since the attack, kind-hearted Australians have since donated $830,040 on a dedicated GoFundMe page to give Dr Good's partner, Dan, and little Harriet "the freedom to go forward into the future without financial burden or worry".

"Ash was a ray of sunshine and positivity in every aspect of her life and died a hero saving her little girl from the most unspeakable evil," GoFundMe organiser Steven Foxwell wrote.

The donations are still pouring in from friends and strangers alike, often accompanied by heartbreaking messages.

"Although I did not know Ashlee, I was deeply touched by her bravery and great maternal love, and my heart goes out to all of you at this difficult time," one person wrote.

"I'm so sorry for your horrific loss. I hope the money raised here gives you the freedom to go forward and continue living your lives in a way that would make Ash proud," a second added.

"As a mother of two, this really truly caused my heart to ache in a way I haven't felt for a long time," a third said.

"I wish for this little girl so much happiness and light in her future. I can't even imagine all the different ways the family are feeling right now."

Nicola Britton, the Regional Director for GoFundMe Australia, said that the fundraiser is currently the second-largest in Australia for 2024, trailing only behind another fundraiser focused on humanitarian relief for Gaza.

Never say never: Ash Barty's surprising new career move

Ash Barty is set for a return to Wimbledon this year, but not in the way you'd expect.

The Aussie legend who retired from competitive tennis in 2022 at the age of 25, has been persistent about not returning to the court.

Since her retirement, she married her long-term partner Garry Kissick, and the pair welcomed their son Hayden in July 2023. She has also written some books and played a few golf tournaments around the world.

In November 2022, when promoting her memoir My Dream Time, Barty was asked if she’d ever consider a move into the commentary box, to which she replied: “No, never.”

But now, she is making her return into the spotlight, particularly the commentary box as she has been announced as part of the BBC’s team for Wimbledon.

“A host of Wimbledon champions will be joining the studio," BBC’s content boss Charlotte Moore said.

Barty will be joining Nick Kyrgios and former Aussie Wimbledon champ Pat Cash for the Summer of Sport event in London.

“This will include John McEnroe, Martina Navratilova, Billie Jean King and Pat Cash, alongside Tim Henman, Tracey Austin, Annabel Croft and Johanna Konta," Moore said.

“Joining the line-up this year will be 2021 champion Ashleigh Barty and, if he’s not playing, 2022 Wimbledon finalist Nick Kyrgios, so anything could happen there.”

While her attitude towards taking a commentary role has changed, she has not changed her stance on making a comeback on the court.

“I don’t have the time – I don’t have the time to train, I don’t have the time to prepare, and I have so many great memories out on this court and now I just get to create new memories,” she said late last year.

“I’m certainly not coming out of retirement.”

Image: JONO SEARLE/EPA-EFE/ Shutterstock Editorial

Outpouring of support for baby girl after Bondi tragedy

The heart-wrenching events that unfolded during Saturday's Bondi massacre shook not just Sydney, but all of Australia. Amid the sorrow and shock, however, there emerged a glimmer of hope and solidarity as Australians united to support the victims, particularly a nine-month-old baby girl named Harriet, who became a symbol of resilience in the face of tragedy.

Harriet, the daughter of Ashlee Good, tragically lost her mother in the Bondi Westfield shopping centre attack perpetrated by Joel Cauchi. Ashlee, described by friends and family as a radiant presence, lost her life while heroically protecting her beloved daughter from the assailant's violence. The infant, Harriet, sustained stab wounds and was rushed to Sydney Children’s Hospital in critical condition. Thankfully, she has since been stabilised and moved out of ICU, but remains under close medical care.

In response to this harrowing ordeal, the Australian community swiftly rallied together, demonstrating an outpouring of compassion and generosity. Within a mere three days, a GoFundMe campaign surpassed its initial goal of $100,000 by raising over $535,000 for Harriet's support. The fundraiser, initiated to alleviate the financial burdens faced by Harriet and her father, Dan, garnered support from both loved ones and strangers alike, reflecting the nation's collective grief and determination to provide solace in any way possible.

The sentiments expressed within the fundraiser encapsulated the profound loss felt by those who knew Ashlee and the unwavering commitment she had to her family.

"Our hearts were broken beyond comprehension as we learned of the tragic loss of our beautiful friend, Ash, in the stabbing attack at Westfield Bondi Junction on Saturday afternoon," it reads. "Ash was a ray of sunshine and positivity in every aspect of her life and died a hero saving her little girl from the most unspeakable evil.

"We have been overwhelmed by requests from loved ones and strangers wanting to support Dan and Harriet as they face life without their beloved Ash. Being a mother to baby Harriet and partner to Dan was Ash’s whole life. Her love and commitment to them was evident to all who knew her.

We are united in our devastation that her bright future was cut short in this way. Her beautiful and warm spirit, drive and energy inspired us all."

Ashlee's radiant spirit, her boundless love for her daughter and partner, and her selfless act of sacrifice resonated deeply with all who encountered her.

The profound impact of the Bondi massacre extended beyond the immediate victims, as the entire nation mourned the loss of innocent lives and grappled with the senseless violence that shattered a community. The victims, including Yixuan Cheng, Pikria Darchia, Dawn Singleton, Faraz Tahir, Jade Young, and Ashlee Good, were remembered not just as statistics but as individuals whose lives were tragically cut short.

The makeshift memorial at Bondi Junction served as a powerful symbol of remembrance and solidarity, adorned with an abundance of flowers and heartfelt messages from those touched by the tragedy. Friends and family of Ashlee Good gathered at the memorial, finding solace in the outpouring of support from their community.

As the healing process begins, the ongoing support for Harriet and her family serves as a testament to the strength of community bonds and unwavering compassion.

Images: Nine News

Inside Ash Barty's new $4m beach pad

Australian tennis sensation Ash Barty has made headlines once again, this time not for her remarkable prowess on the court, but for her latest investment – a breathtaking beachfront apartment on the Gold Coast. The Wimbledon champion recently secured a half-floor sky home in a striking 41.25-metre-high tower, currently under construction at Palm Beach, for close to a whopping $4 million.

The 12-story apartment building, aptly named Kloud, is not just another luxury development; it represents a significant milestone for celebrity developer Graya as it marks their debut into the opulent real estate market of the Glitter Strip.

Headed by brothers Rob and Andrew Gray, Graya has carved a niche for itself by creating show-stopping residences in Brisbane for high-profile clients, including sports stars like rugby league great Darius Boyd and renowned figures like rapper Example and his then-wife, model Erin McNaught, along with rugby players Quade Cooper and Izzy Folau.

For Ash Barty, this investment signifies more than just acquiring a lavish property; it's about indulging in a lifestyle befitting her status. With earnings exceeding $30 million throughout her illustrious tennis career, Barty's purchase of this beachfront abode reflects her penchant for luxury and relaxation. It's reported that she intends to use the Jefferson Lane apartment as a lock-and-leave holiday home, allowing her to escape the rigours of public life and bask in the serene coastal ambiance whenever she desires.

Speaking about Barty's choice, Rob Gray told Realestate.com.au that “the proximity to the water afforded by the beachfront location on Jefferson Lane gives the apartments such a premium luxury feel, and Palm Beach offers that relaxed holiday lifestyle. Like myself, I assume Ash and her family will want to spend every weekend there.”

Now, let's take a glimpse inside Barty's new coastal sanctuary. Spanning approximately 200 square metres of living space, this four-bedroom, three-bathroom apartment offers panoramic ocean views that will leave anyone in awe. The design seamlessly integrates indoor and outdoor living, with soaring glass walls opening onto a private balcony complete with an integrated barbecue kitchen, ideal for entertaining guests against the backdrop of the shimmering sea.

Inside, the interiors exude sophistication and refinement, featuring open-plan living areas adorned with European oak floorboards and a kitchen boasting sleek finishes such as a large island dining bar, integrated Miele appliances, and natural stone surfaces. The master bedroom is a sanctuary in itself, boasting plush wool carpeting, a walk-in robe, and an ensuite bathroom replete with indulgent amenities like a walk-in twin shower, dual vanity and a luxurious freestanding bath.

For Barty, this acquisition comes at a pivotal moment in her life. Having retired from professional tennis at the age of 25 in 2022, she has embarked on a new chapter, one that sees her building her dream home in Brookwater, a residential community situated close to her hometown of Ipswich, west of Brisbane. While her tennis career may have come to an end, her legacy continues to flourish both on and off the court, solidifying her status as not just a sporting icon but also a discerning connoisseur of luxury living.

Images: GRAYA \ Instagram

Heartbroken parents of slain Melbourne doctor break silence

Dr Ash Gordon's heartbroken parents have spoken out about the moment they found out their son had died.

The Melbourne GP was allegedly killed after confronting two teenage boys who had allegedly broken into his home in Doncaster in the early hours on Saturday, January 13.

Dr Gordon’s grieving mother Catherine, recalled the moment she was woken by the phone call no parent wants to receive.

“He said that Ashley had gone. And I said gone where? He’s gone. He’s no longer with us,” Mrs Gordon told A Current Affair about the moment her son's housemate delivered the devastating news.

“I said, ‘Don’t lie, you’re joking.‘ And I hung up on him."

Holding back tears, Mrs Gordon also shared the denial she went through as she received the call from a detective.

"Then the detective rang and I told him that I didn’t believe him, and he said 'how can I get you to believe?', I said 'until there is a police person in uniform in front of me, it's not happening'"

"Well you don't want to believe do you?" A Current Affair host Ally Langdon replied, and both parents shook their heads.

“We saw the police car coming up, and I just prayed to God they’d just keep going. I didn’t want them to turn into the driveway, but unfortunately, it happened.”

Ally Langdon who was brought to tears during the interview added: “It’s a cruel contrast isn’t it? That Ash has dedicated his life to saving lives, yet his was taken in this horrible way."

The 33-year-old doctor was found by police less than a kilometre from his home, but unfortunately he died at the scene.

In the days following the incident, two 16-year-old boys with Dr Gordon’s murder as well as aggravated burglary and theft.

Dr Gordon's family have since held a memorial service for him to honour the slain doctor.

Image: A Current Affair

Major update in fatal stabbing of young Melbourne doctor

The 16-year-old accused of stabbing a young Melbourne doctor to death had allegedly committed a similar crime just months prior.

The teenager was allegedly involved in the home invasion of Dr Ash Gordon, which turned fatal after the doctor chased the intruders from his home, ending when Dr Gordon was stabbed and left for dead.

As the teens now face charges for his death, an alleged previous victim of the same teenager has come forward, claiming the young man left him with serious head injuries after robbing his house in October.

His alleged previous victims claim that the Victorian government has “blood on its hands” and that the boy should not have been released on bail.

The victims told the Herald Sun that Dr Gordon's death has left them traumatised and struggling to move on from their own terrifying encounter.

In an emotional statement, the alleged previous victims pleaded with Victorian premier Jacinta Allan to reconsider the state's planned youth justice reform.

“We are trying to move on with our lives, however, when a case on (alleged) teen crime is reported, we feel anxious, helpless and frustrated with the broken system," they told the publication.

“The Allan government and the justice system have blood on their hands, and ultimately should be held accountable.”

Under the terms of the 16-year-old’s bail, he was to adhere to a strict nightly curfew, but still managed to allegedly break into Dr Gordon's home shortly before 5:30am on January 13th.

Ms Allan has faced increasing pressure to abandon Victoria's overhaul of the youth justice system which would see the age of criminal responsibility raised.

The government has committed to raising the age that a child can be arrested, jailed or charged from 10 to 12 by the end of 2024, and again to 14 by 2027, with serious crimes such as homicide being exempt from these changes.

Ms Allen however has insisted that the reforms are a key priority of her government and that they will help prevent future criminal activity.

“There’s a huge amount of work that’s being undertaken by Victoria Police to work with those young people ... [and] that sort of prevention-based activity is the best way to address future youth crime,” she said.

“At the same time, when offences are made, Victoria Police have the tools and resources to deal with those.”

Sister of slain doctor calls for killers to turn themselves in

The distraught sister of Dr Ash Gordon has made an emotional appeal for those responsible for the death of her brother to turn themselves in.

In the early hours of Saturday morning, the 33-year-old doctor was killed after a group of criminals broke into his home in Doncaster in Melbourne’s east.

After they stole several items from his home, he managed to chase them out of the house and pursued them in his car, until both he and the intruders exited their vehicles and a fight erupted just 500 metres away.

Dr Gordon was stabbed fatally several times in the altercation and was left for dead.

As his family grieve his premature death, his devastated sister Natalie has called for justice.

Appearing on Sunrise, she shared how angry the situation has made her.

“I think for me it's been anger the entire time. I'm just obviously devastated, but so angry that anyone could do this to not only my brother but any person, any human being,” she said.

"His girlfriend is heartbroken, mum is completely broken and I've never seen my dad like this. You never want to have to bury your own children."

Ms Gordon said her little brother had “a big personality with a large heart”, sharing how “his presence was known everywhere.”

“He had a cheeky grin, a charm and charisma about him that had everyone wrapped around his little finger.”

“He was the absolute apple of all of our eyes. He was the centre of our family and he was the youngest of five but we all looked up to him.”

While Dr Gordon's attackers remain on the run and no arrests have been made, Natalie has pleaded for the killers to turn themselves in to police.

“Wear the consequences, because you'll never imagine what we're feeling, what we're going through,” she said.

“You have taken away a wonderful doctor, a caring man and the best little brother. Ash Barty baby update: "Outnumbered by the boys"

Tennis icon Ash Barty and her spouse, Garry Kissick, celebrated the arrival of their son, Hayden, in July. Now the 27-year-old Wimbledon champion has sent her fans into a swooning frenzy by sharing a heartwarming collection of photographs on Instagram, capturing precious moments with their precious two-month old.

One endearing snapshot portrays a radiant Barty tenderly cradling her peacefully slumbering infant, while another captures the young one playfully peering at the camera from his playpen. Additionally, she shared an adorable photo of her son nestled in his father's lap, with Garry affectionately gazing down at him.

In the caption accompanying the photos, she humorously noted, "Outnumbered by the boys. Love every single minute."

These adorable moments didn't go unnoticed by Ash's celebrity friends. Swimming champion Giaan Rooney commented, "What a cutie," and cricket legend Matthew Hayden playfully remarked, "Decent crop of hair on the youngster."

In an interview shortly after Hayden's birth, Barty candidly shared her experiences as a new mother, describing it as both the best and most challenging thing she's ever done. She expressed immense gratitude for her son and described her time with Garry and Hayden as a precious, quiet period for their small family.

Barty also expressed the incredible bond she's formed with Hayden, highlighting the joy it brings to her life. The tennis star and Queensland native tied the knot with Garry Kissick in a private ceremony in Queensland in July last year. Their love story began at Brooklands Golf Club in Queensland in 2016, where they met during a round of golf, and they've been inseparable ever since.

Despite her remarkable success in tennis, Barty made a surprising decision to step away from the sport at the peak of her career following her landmark victory at the Australian Open in January 2022.

She has consistently rebuffed any suggestions of a future return to professional sports. In her memoir, My Dream Time, Barty reflects on how her fierce competitive drive began to wane after her Wimbledon triumph in 2021.

Images: Instagram

But hey, who can blame her for trading her tennis racket for diapers and late-night lullabies? Parenthood is a whole new ball game!

Back in January, Barty cleverly hinted at her pregnancy by sharing an adorable snapshot of her furry friend, Origi, alongside a pair of tiny baby shoes. Talk about the perfect way to tease her fans! She captioned it with, "2023 set to be the best year yet. We are so excited for our new adventure," complete with a baby emoji. Origi must be thrilled to become a big sister, ready to protect her tiny human at all costs!

Kissick also got in on the fun, posting a photo of those oh-so-adorable baby shoes alongside their pup and a baby-sized Liverpool kit. "Little Red, 2023," he wrote with a baby emoji. Looks like little Hayden might have a future in tennis or soccer, or maybe both! Talk about a sporty gene pool.

Even Prime Minister Anthony Albanese couldn't contain his excitement. He showered Barty with praise, calling her a "great credit to Australia" and expressing his best wishes. Hey, when the PM gives you a thumbs-up, you know you're acing life!

Let's not forget Barty's outstanding victories in the tennis world. She snagged the 2022 Australian Open title, conquered the clay courts of the 2019 French Open, and triumphed at Wimbledon in 2021. Now she's ready for the toughest challenge of them all – raising a little one!

Last July, Barty and Kissick tied the knot in a private ceremony in sunny Queensland. They embarked on this incredible journey as a team, and now they've welcomed their very own little doubles partner. Game, set, match – family edition!

Congratulations to the Barty-Kissick clan on their newest addition. We can't wait to see Hayden rocking the tennis court with an adorable baby-sized racket. Watch out, world: there's a new player in town, and he's bringing his A-game and a truckload of cuteness!

Images: Instagram

Fan throws mother’s ashes on stage at Pink concert

Singing sensation Pink was left momentarily speechless after a fan threw a bag of their mother’s ashes on stage mid-performance.

The singer was just four songs into her headlining set at the British Summer Time festival in London’s Hyde Park when she grabbed a large package of white powder that had been thrown across the stage.

“Is this your mum?” a confused Pink asked.

“I don’t know how I feel about this.”

Simply stunned, the singer then placed the package down behind the front-of-stage speakers and continued performing the current song, Just Like A Pill.

Pink did not speak out about the bizarre situation, but social media users put the concert-goer on blast for the act.

“Someone gave their Mothers ashes to Pink. I need yall to have boundaries like girl what?” one fan wrote.

“She handled it well cause I’d definitely be mad that someone handed me their mom’s ashes,” another added.

“I feel like security at a concert will be like going thru TSA if people don’t stop being WEIRD,” a third wrote.

Other online users had more extreme takes, “I would have started snorting their mother on stage,” one person wrote on twitter, while another insisted they would’ve “sprinkled it on the crowd.”

This incident follows a string of boundary-breaking events at pop stars’ concerts, with singer Bebe Rexha receiving stitches after a fan threw a phone at her head, and another singer Ava Max having to end her show abruptly after a concert-goer rushed the stage and slapped her in the face.

Pink will be returning to Australia for a string of stadium shows in February 2024.

While the star hasn’t touched on the matter, there’s a good chance she'd recommend leaving the deceased at home.

"Ice in his veins": Stunning result in First Ashes Test

Australia has emerged victorious in the first Ashes Test, with captain Pat Cummins chasing down 281 with just two wickets left inside the final five overs on the last day at Edgbaston.

Cummins scored an unbeaten 44 as he and Nathan Lyon (16) put on 55 for the ninth wicket to bag the win — a thrilling reversal of Australia’s famous two-run loss at the same ground in 2005.

The captain and Lyon hit occasional boundaries, wearing several short balls on the body before Cummins got a thick edge to third man off Robinson and Harry Brook’s fumble on the boundary saw Aussie fans and players erupt in raptures — reigning in a 1-0 lead in the series.

"Ice in his veins," England great Michael Atherton said in commentary when Cummins' boundary sealed the result.

"Pat Cummins has led his side to a famous victory here at Edgbaston.

"Seventy-two they needed when he came to the crease and he has got his team over the line.”

Aussie cricket legend Ricky Ponting was astounded.

"What an end to a Test match, what a game of cricket," the former captain said.

Needing 174 runs to win at the start of the day, in-form opener Usman Khawaja laid a platform for the late charge with 65 off 197 balls, before being bowled late in the day.

He admitted he was “Sh****ng [himself]” as he watched the rest of the brutal run chase from the sheds.

Despite being confined to a knee brace, Ben Strokes brought himself on to bowl and claimed the wicket of the eventual man of the match, Usman Khawaja.

As the Aussie dressing room spiralled into a frenzy, an elated Cummins raced over to Lyon at the opposite end of the wicket and lifted his batting partner off the ground.

The pair were then seen in a triumphant embrace as ecstatic Aussies in the Birmingham crowd celebrated the incredible result.

The victory — initially appearing highly unlikely when Lyon joined Cummins with the visitors needing 54 runs to win — made for Australia’s highest successful run chase against England since 1948.

"You can’t ever get them back": Granddaughter’s plea for stolen ashes

Grieving teenager Jakoda Williams-Boyce has pleaded with thieves for the return of her grandmother’s ashes.

The theft occurred when the 19-year-old from Adelaide left her nana’s remains in the boot of her grey Mitsubishi Lancer after parking it on Amadeus Crescent in Christie Downs. The car was stolen at some point between Thursday evening and Friday morning with the urn still inside.

Jakoda had been living with her grandmother, Sharon, when she passed away at the age of 64. The family had been in possession of Sharon’s remains ever since, until they came under Jakoda’s care four weeks ago.

In images shared with 9News, Jakoda can be seen cradling the precious urn, and smiling in an old photograph with her nana alongside the caption “10 months today. I love you my angel.”

“I will say, it is my own fault for putting that personal item there, but I didn’t think twice. I shouldn’t have to worry about people on the street,” the teenager admitted, speaking to 9News.

It remains unclear how thieves got their hands on the car, as the keys and the car’s battery remain with Jakoda, though glass was reportedly scattered across the scene.

Police have so far been unable to locate the vehicle, but their search continues, with Jakoda issuing an emotional plea to the thieves for the safe return of her nana, confessing that it feels like losing her beloved grandmother for a second time.

“Me, personally, I wouldn’t be able to sleep at night knowing that I’ve stolen the car with someone’s cremations in the backseat,” she said, “you can’t ever get them back.”

Jakoda’s interests lie solely in getting the ashes back, with the distraught teenager telling reporters, “I would ask the question of ‘why’, but I wouldn’t go any further.

“Hopefully, when I do get them back, I want to take them to the funeral director and put them into, like, the ground. So I can't lose them."

Image: 9News

Ash Barty reveals what has shocked her most about retirement

Ash Barty has revealed what has surprised her most about retirement since walking off the court for good last January.

The former world number one quit her stellar tennis career at the height of her powers following her Australian Open win last January, and has rejected all suggestions that she might return to professional sport in the future.

Barty, 26, has absolutely no regrets about her decision to retire, saying she has been "surprised" by how comfortable she is now.

"To be honest, I think what has surprised me most is how comfortable I've been," she told the New York Times.

"I think there was probably a normal fear or uncertainty in not knowing what my life would look like after tennis after being so focused."

"I was a bit unsure how I would deal with that because I am a person who likes to be organised. There was probably a little bit of fear in that, but overall, that hasn't been an issue, a concern or a worry."

"What's been surprising in a good way is that I've slipped quite seamlessly into this life that's just like everyone else. Which is kind of always what I wanted."

While Barty is adamant she will not return to play the sport at a professional level, she is staying involved with the tennis world by starting up an elite academy in Australia with Jason Stoltenberg and Craig Tizzer, and says she's interested in mentoring, but not coaching, junior players.

"The more time I've had to sit and think and absorb this year, I think it is never in the sense of me competing professionally again," she said.

"But I'll never not be involved in the sport. So I think that's where I'll always get my tennis fix, that taste of the sport that gave me so much."
