Kyle Sandilands has stunned listeners after candidly revealing his eye-watering salary live on air. Much speculation has swirled about the KIIS FM radio hosts' salaries after Kyle and Jackie O signed a new 10-year contract with the network, which was rumoured to cost $100 million. This figure would mean that Kyle and Jackie O would see an annual salary of $10 million, but Kyle revealed they are actually getting paid more than that. “I can’t live with the lie, it’s underreported," Kyle admitted on Friday morning. "It’s actually about another $50 million each,” he said, which means the pair will take home $15 million a year each. As Jackie protested at Kyle revealing their personal negotiations, Kyle continued, “I’m just saying, let’s cut through the bulls**t. And we get that because we’re good [at radio].” The new contract, which is said to be the biggest deal in Australian media history, will take The Kyle and Jackie O Show hosts to December 2034. The duo also have a clause in their contract that allows them to broadcast the show “anywhere on earth” at the drop of a hat. After revealing his astonishing salary on air, Kyle and his team began discussing the salaries of other popular radio stars in Australia. The show’s reporter Cooper Johns claimed that Hamish Blake and Andy Lee both make $4 million a year, while Brendan 'Fev' Fevola makes $1.2 million a year for his show on Fox FM in Melbourne. Both Hughesy and his family had grown tired of the commute, and as a result, Hughesy informed executives at Southern Cross Austereo (the network that owns 2Day FM) that he wouldn’t be relocating to Sydney permanently, and therefore could not commit to another year on the breakfast show. On top of the commuting issues, the popular radio show had a shocker in the latest round of radio ratings which were released last month. The trio recorded just a 3.6 per cent audience share, a long way behind Sydney’s FM market leaders Kyle and Jackie O (14.1 cent) and Jonesy and Amanda (8.1 per cent). Sydney's 104.1 2DayFM has announced the end of the beloved Hughesy, Ed and Erin breakfast show after three years. The breakfast hosts Dave Hughes, Ed Kavalee and Erin Molan shared a statement last night announcing their departure. TV star charged over making indecent images of children

Former BBC presenter Huw Edwards has been charged with making indecent images of children. The 62-year-old, who left the UK public broadcaster in April after 40 years, faces three charges over alleged activity between December 2020 and April 2022. Police claim the offences are claimed to be linked to images shared on WhatsApp. After being arrested in November last year by London's Metropolitan Police, he was charged with the offences on June 26th. A Metropolitan Police spokesman said of the arrest, “Huw Edwards, 62, of Southwark, London has been charged with three counts of making indecent images of children following a Met Police investigation." “The offences, which are alleged to have taken place between December 2020 and April 2022, relate to images shared on a WhatsApp chat. Edwards was arrested on 8 November 2023. He was charged on Wednesday, 26 June following authorisation from the Crown Prosecution Service." “He has been bailed to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday 31 July." Married dad-of-five Edwards resigned from the BBC three months ago after a stellar career spanning almost 40 years. BBC presenter turned firefighter Beccy Barr has passed away at the age of 46 after a battle with cancer. Barr's family confirmed the sad news on X (formerly Twitter), writing, “Beccy passed away peacefully this morning”. “She spent her last few days at @SJHospice who provided the most dignified and compassionate care to Beccy and her whole family. Donations to the hospice can be made in Beccy’s memory.” After 20 years at the British public broadcaster, Barr shocked her loyal viewers announcing she would be leaving her media career behind to follow in her father's footsteps by becoming a firefighter. Man arrested after BBC presenter's wife and children murdered

British police have apprehended the man they believe is responsible for a brutal crossbow attack on the wife and two children of a well-known BBC radio presenter. In a statement released on Wednesday afternoon (early Thursday AEST), Hertfordshire Police said 26-year-old Kyle Clifford had been located in the Enfield area of north London and that he was receiving medical treatment for injuries. The BBC confirmed that the women killed were the family of its well-known radio racing commentator John Hunt — his 61-year-old wife Carol Hunt and their daughters Louise and Hannah, aged 25 and 28 respectively. Their tragic death prompted a major manhunt for the 26-year-old, as the public were urged not to approach Clifford. "Following extensive inquiries, the suspect has been located and nobody else is being sought in connection with the investigation at this time," Detective Inspector Justine Jenkins from the Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire major crime unit said. "This continues to be an incredibly difficult time for the victims' family and we would ask that their privacy is respected as they come to terms with what has happened." A colleague of Hunt's and BBC 5 Live's lead presenter Mark Chapman struggled to hold back the tears as he expressed everyone's shock and pain. "We have a football match to bring you tonight ... and we will start our buildup to it shortly but this has been a heartbreaking day," he said as he opened Wednesday's coverage on 5 Live of England's semifinal match against The Netherlands in soccer's European Championship. "John Hunt is our colleague and our friend, not just to the current 5 Live sport team but to all of those who've worked here with him over the past 20 years, and also to all of you who have enjoyed his superb commentaries," Chapman said. "So on behalf of everyone connected to 5 Live Sport, our love and thoughts and support are with John and his family." Police were first alerted to the violent killings on Tuesday evening when emergency services were called to a house in Bushey, a residential area in north-western London. Kyle Sandilands was paying tribute to his “childhood hero” Hey Hey it's Saturday star John Blackman on-air Thursday morning, when he was interrupted by an audio of the late star trashing him in a recent interview. Speaking on the Kyle and Jackie O Show, the shock jock said he was upset when he learned of <a href="https://www.oversixty.com.au/health/caring/australia-is-a-sadder-place-shock-as-john-blackman-s-death-confirmed" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Blackman's passing</a>, but before he was able to elaborate on how the radio star was his childhood hero, his manager Bruno Bouchet interjected and told him about Blackman's brutal review. In a May interview on the You Cannot Be Serious podcast, Blackman said: “Why are we giving these two publicity hungry, oxygen thieves, waste of oxygen. The man [Sandilands] is a no talent. He doesn’t have a voice for radio, by the way.” Footage of Sandilands listening to the audio for the first time was shared by KIIS FM on their Instagram stories, and both he and Henderson were shocked. “I’m very confused,” Sandilands said, before coming to the conclusion that Blackman wasn’t a fan of him because he’s not as polished as “old school” media veterans. “What’s happened here is old school media, TV, radio, newspapers. Radio legend dies aged 97

Australia's longest serving DJ Bob Rogers has died aged 97. The veteran radio presenter, who had a broadcasting career spanning 78 years, passed away at his Mosman home, surrounded by his family on Wednesday morning. Friend and family spokesperson, Derryn Hinch, paid tribute to the radio legend in a social media post dedicated to "my dear friend, my ‘brother’". "His show business career spanned nearly 80 years. Bob started in radio at Melbourne’s 3XY when he was 15. He was still doing a radio program on Sydney’s 2CH in his nineties," he wrote. "The words legend and icon are thrown around too easily these days but Bob Rogers was both. "As a kid I used to listen to him on my crystal set from across the ditch in New Zealand," he added. He then went on to describe one of Rogers' career highlights, when he represented 2SM and accompanied the Beatles on their 1964 tour through Europe, Asia and Australia - the only time the band toured the country. "Not one ounce of compassion”: BBC star kicked off plane over daughter's allergy

A BBC weather presenter and her family have been kicked off a plane after asking passengers to be wary of her daughter's peanut allergy. British weather presenter Georgie Palmer was flying from London to Turkey with her husband Matt and their daughters Annie and Rosie, as the family boarded their flight at Gatwick Airport with SunExpress airlines. Georgie and her family were kicked off the plane shortly after boarding, after the 49-year-old mother ran into issues around her daughter's severe allergy to peanuts. According to Palmer, she has requested that the captain make an announcement to all passengers asking them not to eat any peanut products on the flight, but the pilot refused. Palmer then took matters into her own hands and one by one asked passengers not to consume peanuts on the four-hour flight, before being asked to disembark the aircraft. The weather presenter took to Instagram to share her side of the story with a lengthy post. She began, “I thanked the beautiful souls on our plane for helping us. Many of them hugged, cheered and held our hands as we were forced to disembark." “The SunExpress captain and cabin crew refused to make the standard announcement on behalf of our daughter. We gently asked the passengers at the front of the plane to share our request." “Row by row, all the passengers turned back to kindly ask the row behind to please not eat nuts on the flight. It was calm, earnest and with an overwhelming sense of solidarity and empathy.” Georgie added: “There’s no beef with simple asks like these. People get it!" “We were hoofed off the plane after the angry little captain shouted at us from the cockpit.” She concluded by saying they were discriminated against for “simply having an allergy”. Shortly after boarding our flight, the passenger raised a concern about one of his family group having a serious peanut allergy." “They requested an announcement to other passengers. We refrain from making these kinds of announcements. Like many other airlines, we cannot guarantee an allergen-free environment on our flights, nor can we prevent other passengers from bringing food items containing allergens on board." “Due to the insistent behaviour of the passenger to others on board, the captain decided it would be safest if the family did not travel." “When this was explained to the passenger, he behaved aggressively towards our crew members and tried to gain access to the cockpit. To ensure the safety of our crew and our passengers on board, we cannot tolerate aggressive and unruly behaviour on our flights." “Our website states that passengers must notify us 48 hours in advance of any special care required due to a medical condition. "It's a dummy spit": Ben Fordham slams Police Commissioner

Ben Fordham has slammed the NSW Police Commissioner for pulling the pin on a radio interview at the last minute, with the radio host claiming she was requesting "favourable coverage". Karen Webb was set to appear on the 2GB radio show on Monday morning, after facing several months of public scrutiny due to a series of blunders. “But the commissioner is not coming on our show this morning, (she) called me on Friday to explain this,” Fordham said to his loyal listeners. He said she was not happy about a “cheeky” question he asked Premier Chris Minns earlier in the day, asking whether he had received her “letter of resignation”. “It’s a dummy spit and it’s another example of the commissioner taking things personally instead of looking for the lesson,” he said. Fordham went on to claim that Commissioner Webb had approached media executives to ask for "favourable coverage" before agreeing to be interviewed. “The NSW Police Commissioner has approached media bosses at Nine Radio and NewsCorp. I know this because one of the conversations was about me,” Fordham said. Fordham referred to the death of 95-year-old Clare Nowland, who was allegedly tasered by Senior Constable Kristian White at a Cooma aged care home in May 2023. “When I was asking questions about the lack of transparency over the Taser incident, the commissioner complained to my boss,” Fordham said. “It was clear to me what was going on, Karen Webb wanted me to ease up a bit.” He added, “Morale in the police force is tanking, and the commissioner has gone into hiding.” Pressure on the commissioner has increased since serving police officer Beau Lamarre-Condon was charged with the double murder of Sydney couple Jesse Baird and Luke Davies in February. Police allege he used a service weapon to kill the couple, prompting concerns over the force’s weapon handling protocols and leadership. Ms Webb was noticeably silent in the days that followed Mr Lamarre-Condon being charged, and when she did finally face the cameras, she was slammed for a series of embarrassing blunders, including referring to the alleged murder as a “crime of passion” and quoting Taylor Swift lyrics when asked if she should resign. BBC Scotland presenter Nick Sheridan has passed away at the age of 32, with heartfelt tributes pouring in from his devastated colleagues. Sheridan reportedly "collapsed while running" for the second time in recent weeks, after suffering a brain aneurysm. After several days in intensive care, the journalist died on Wednesday surrounded by loved ones. Head of News at BBC Scotland shared an emotional tribute to Sheridan, saying Nick had been a "wonderful colleague to those of us who have worked with him". He added, "He was a hugely talented journalist, presenter and author - and one of those rare people who light up the lives of everyone around them. Funny, clever, kind. A lovely man. "Our hearts go out to his parents, who have been with him over the past ten days, to his partner, Lewis, and to all the rest of his family and friends." First Minister Humza Yousaf also paid tribute to Sheridan in the Scottish Parliament chamber, describing him as an "extremely talented journalist and author". "My thoughts are with his family, his many friends and indeed his colleagues. It will undoubtedly be a very sad time for them," he said. "We've all gone": Why Jackie O stormed off set

Jackie O Henderson has marched out of KIIS FM in the middle of The Kyle and Jackie O show, after finding out that the station has the highest gender pay gap disparity across Australian radio. “Southern Cross Austereo has a disgraceful 5.9% pay gap. At Nova and Smooth FM it is even worse, six per cent." Kyle Sandilands told listeners on Tuesday. "But unfortunately, the number one spot is at KIIS FM, – at the top of the tree with a 12% pay gap disparity.” Sandilands, who famously fought for Henderson to secure equal pay on their radio program, then brought on one of the show’s producers Pete Deppeler and another female KIIS FM producer, who revealed she was only being paid half of what Deppeler was. “Are you freaking joking? Why is Peter getting that much money? I’m so angry about that, it makes my blood boil,” Henderson replied. She then left the studios with all her female colleagues. “We’ve all gone,” she said. "We are just here with the fellas. I don’t know whether I am enjoying this, bring the girls back!” Sandilands told listeners. On Tuesday, the Workplace Gender Equality Agency published the gender pay gap for more than 5,000 Australian companies. This was done after Prime Minister Anthony Albanese ordered the information to be made public for the first time ever, so the data can be compared within and across industries. The new data revealed that the national gap for total remuneration sits at 19 per cent and the median Australian female worker is taking home $18,461 less than their male counterpart. David Morrow steps down from 2GB

David Morrow will step down from his role on 2GB's Continuous Call Team, following a brain cancer diagnosis. Morrow's colleague, Ray Hadley, announced the sports broadcaster's departure and cancer diagnosis on 2GB today. Hadley revealed that Morrow was stepping back from all commentary duties to focus on his treatment and to spend time with his loved ones. Morrow has been working at 2GB since 2015, with a career that has spanned 52 years, including over four decades of covering first-grade rugby league, eight Olympic Games, and six Commonwealth Games. His colleagues have shared their support for the sports broadcaster. Luke Davis, 2GB's Head of Content, said it had been an "honour" to have Morrow as part of the Continuous Call Team and the broader Nine Radio family. Escape to the Country host dies aged 50

British TV presenter Jonnie Irwin has passed away aged 50 following a battle with terminal cancer. Irwin was diagnosed with terminal cancer in 2020, when the disease spread from his lungs to his brain. He was initially given just six months to live, but managed to defy the odds and made his illness public after two years of keeping it a secret. The TV presenter rose to fame in the UK for his roles on shows including A Place in the Sun and Escape to the Country. A statement was shared to Instagram on Friday announcing his death, where he was described as "a truly remarkable soul." "It is with heavy hearts that we share the news of Jonnie’s passing," the statement began. "A truly remarkable soul, he fought bravely against cancer with unwavering strength and courage. Jonnie touched the lives of so many with his kindness, warmth, and infectious spirit." “At this time, we kindly ask for the privacy of Jonnie’s family as they navigate through this profound loss," the statement continued. “Their grief is immeasurable, and your thoughts, prayers, and support are deeply appreciated. Kyle Sandilands abandons radio show after nasty accident

Kyle Sandilands was forced to abandon his daily radio show on Wednesday morning, after a nasty accident prevented him from heading into the studio. KIISFM was forced to play a pre-recorded episode of the Kyle and Jackie O Show, as just moments before he was set to go on air, Sandilands took a tumble down the stairs. Kyle took Thursday off the show as well to recover from his accident, but called in to speak to his co-host Jackie O to share what happened. “I fell from the top of my internal staircase and rolled, rattled and bumped all the way to the bottom, and I was left splayed out like a Christmas dinner,” Sandilands said. “It’s a big marble staircase, very wide and very long, and in some design flaw, the light [switch] is at the bottom, not at the top, it was pitch black and my foot went,” he added. Sandilands said he was home alone at the time, with his wife Tegan Kynaston and their one-year-old son Otto spending the night away. “So the normal routine wasn’t happening, the nanny wasn’t there because the baby wasn’t there, and the lighting situation wasn’t sorted out,” Sandilands said. “I carry everything in [my] hat, my wallet, keys, cigarettes … That all went everywhere, and I was left at the bottom of the floor.” “I was so injured I thought, ‘That’s it for me. This is the beginning of the end.’” While he said he was left “rattled” by the accident, Sandilands went on to confirm he was doing “fine” now, and was hoping to be back on the air for Friday morning’s show. Henderson also revealed that she had big things planned for her 49th, with a boat party scheduled for the weekend. "I just feel like every single year of my life I have ignored birthdays and never wanted to do a party," she said. "I just don't like doing it and I thought 'You know what? Why not! Like who cares how old you are or whether it's a milestone, I'm going to throw a big party on a boat.' So, it's the first time I've ever thrown a party for myself." After 34 years on the air, 3AW radio veteran Neil Mitchell is signing off. Neil Mitchell has been a staple of Australian radio for decades, growing a reputation for being fair, decent, honest and sometimes "a bit grumpy". A Current Affair's Ally Langdon joined the 3AW veteran to reflect on a stellar career that earned him a legion of loyal listeners. "I've always wanted to be a journalist from about age 14," he told Langdon. "But not for a moment did I think that I would end up doing something such as I have, editing a newspaper and doing this." His passion as a radio presenter lies in the "real people" who call in each morning, saying, "You can go from a person laughing and telling you jokes and carrying on to great stories." "And then a couple of calls later there's somebody in tears that you need to help. It is real people." "I regularly shed tears on air ... And if we can make a difference, I shed tears again because we've had success." Over his decades on air, Mitchell clashed with many Aussie politicians, sharing how he took it upon himself to be a spokesperson for everyday Australians. "They've established a system where they don't have to be accountable," he said. "And [if] anybody attempts to make them accountable ... they resented it. Accountability is disappearing I'm afraid." While he is stepping back from his flagship show, he has assured listeners he isn't signing off forever. "I'll still be here. I'll be doing podcasts and all sorts of things. Deb Knight's 2GB replacement revealed

After four years as host of the 2GB Afternoons program, Deb Knight has been axed from the coveted role. Knight's brutal dismissal comes after a noticeable <a href="https://oversixty.com.au/entertainment/tv/deb-knight-facing-the-chopping-block" target="_blank" rel="noopener">decline in ratings</a>, with Knight holding a mere six percent market share, as indicated by the latest radio ratings survey. From January 15th next year, Deb will be replaced by Michael McLaren, as the 38-year-old presenter told Ben Fordham on on Thursday that he had "big boots to fill" but was excited to start the role. "I am honoured to be doing it. There has been a rich and great legacy on 2GB for years and years on afternoons and most recently with Deb so it is big boots to fill," McLaren said. "I am going to do my best." The 38-year-old father added he is excited to bring his own niche interests and signature wit to the talkback show while covering the latest news and entertainment. "We are going to do traditional afternoon radio, the open line will drive it," McLaren said. "We will be across the news but we will also be across the entertainment things. My interests are sort of a little esoteric at times – I like the history stuff so we will have plenty of that." "I am told I have a dry sense of humour so I will bring that hopefully to the table as well." According to The Sunday Telegraph, Knight reportedly felt "shattered" after Nine Radio informed her earlier this month that she would be axed as host after her four year stint. Knight was told of the decision just one week before the news was broken to the public, but shared that she would not be leaving the network for good, as she will be taking up a new role as the national host of Money News. "I am stepping back as host of afternoons. I am not, however, leaving 2GB. In fact I'm taking on a new broader network role," she said. "I have missed too many school drop offs and pick ups over the years, I do often put work first. So I'm very much looking forward to being able to be here a lot more for my family."
