Pilot identified after horror helicopter crash

<p>The young pilot who died after his helicopter plummeted into the roof of a Cairns hotel has been identified. </p> <p>Blake Wilson, a 23-year-old from New Zealand, was flying the twin-engine chopper for only a few minutes before it crashed into the roof of the DoubleTree Hotel by Hilton in Far North Queensland. </p> <p>Wilson had been celebrating a farewell party with co-workers just hours before the horror incident.</p> <p>Nautilus Aviation, the company that owned the helicopter, confirmed the pilot had worked for them as a ground crew member for about four months and had been celebrating one final day with colleagues before moving to another air base.</p> <p>In an updated statement on Tuesday night, police said initial investigations suggested Mr Wilson, who died at the scene, was the sole occupant of the helicopter at the time of the crash.</p> <p>Following his tragic death, Nautilus Aviation issued a statement saying, “We would like to address rumours regarding a gathering of some Nautilus Aviation employees, including off-duty pilots, on Sunday night.”</p> <p>“We can confirm this event did occur and was a privately organised send-off for the individual involved in Monday morning’s incident, who was recently promoted to a ground crew position at another one of our bases."</p> <p>While the company did not identify the pilot the time, they did reveal they held a New Zealand pilot’s licence.</p> <p>“Although the employee held a New Zealand CPL (H) pilot’s licence, they have never flown in Australia or for Nautilus Aviation and were not authorised to fly Nautilus Aviation helicopters,” company statement read.</p> <p>“We offer our heartfelt condolences to the individual’s family and all who have been affected by this tragedy and continue to offer our support to our employees during this very challenging period.”</p> <p>Mr Wilson had moved from New Zealand to Cairns for his flying training to follow his dreams of being a pilot at Christchurch Helicopters. </p> <p><em>Image credits: Facebook</em></p>

Woman fined after paid car park gets set up around her parked vehicle

<p>Josephine Williams had been leaving her car in a gravel clearing at Westgate in Auckland, alongside other commuters to catch the bus into the city for months. </p> <p>The New Zealand woman was left with a "nasty surprise" when she returned from work on Monday to find a NZ $85 ($77) fine sitting on her windshield. </p> <p>"To my unfortunate surprise - and many others - I was greeted by an $85 parking ticket for a breach and a flyer from Wilson Parking saying paid parking had started that day," Williams told <em>Stuff</em>.</p> <p>"But what breach exactly was made? How was I supposed to know paid parking started that day when there was nothing at all displayed anywhere in the car park?"</p> <p>Williams claimed that the Wilson Parking car park had been set up around her already parked car, even providing dash cam footage that showed her pulling into the gravel clearing at 7.45am, with no paid parking signs or Wilson branding in sight. </p> <p>By 6pm, a large red and white Wilson sign had been put up at the entrance, with "12 hours for $4" written on it. </p> <p>"Wilson deliberately put their sign up sometime after 9am and then took it upon themselves to fine every single car that was already parked there from the morning," Williams said.</p> <p>"$85 is a lot of money - it would have been two weeks' worth of grocery shopping for me," she added. </p> <p>"I'm lucky that I know the law and my rights, but some other people might not. What about students or the elderly or people who don't know English well?"</p> <p>She estimated that there was usually around 50 and 100 cars in the gravel clearing. </p> <p>Wilson argued that the carpark was always there and they had just added more signage, but have since waived Williams' fine after she lodged a request to have it reviewed by Parking Enforcement Services. </p> <p>Wilson Parking also said that they had started to set up the car park and installed a "clear signage" on April 22. </p> <p>"It was not set up around parked cars on 29 April as suggested," a Wilson spokesperson said.</p> <p>"Several payments were made by customers via the Parkmate app from 22 April proving that signage on the site was clear and effective," they said.</p> <p>They added that on April 29 more signs were added to all entry points of the car park. </p> <p>"In acknowledgment of the increased signage added on the 29th at the entry we've made the decision to refund all payments made until 30 April and waive any breach notices issued up to this date."</p> <p>They also denied issuing any breach notices before the signs were put up.</p> <p>"Payment options were available and signed from 22 April - but no infringement notices were issued prior to the 29th."</p> <p><em>Images: Stuff</em></p> <p> </p>

Rebel Wilson's memoir "pulled from shelves"

<p>Fans hoping to get their hands on a copy of Rebel Wilson's memoir have been left disappointed after the book has been pulled from shelves in Australia. </p> <p>The book, titled <em>Rebel Rising</em>, was released on Wednesday, although numerous retailers have removed the book from their websites, halting sales indefinitely. </p> <p>One of Australia’s biggest book retailers, Amazon, have made the memoir unavailable to order, and noted to customers: “We don’t know when or if this item will be back in stock.”</p> <p>On Booktopia.com the book is currently listed as “Unavailable” with no date listed as to when the memoir will be back on-sale.</p> <p>Wilson took to Instagram to celebrate the release of her book, but her post was inundated with comments from frustrated fans in Australia and New Zealand who were questioning why it was no longer available in the region. </p> <p>“I am in Australia and can’t get a copy,” wrote the frustrated fan. “Just went to my local book store and they said it has been recalled to be possibly be re-printed and have parts redacted!! Can we get it in the US?”</p> <p>Fans in the UK appeared to be having the same issue, with many questioning why they couldn’t pick up the book in their own country either.</p> <p>Many were quick to speculate that the reason the book has been pulled from shelves was due to ongoing legal issues with actor Sacha Baron-Cohen, who Wilson named and shamed in the book for acting inappropriately while they were working on a movie together. </p> <p>When the news broke that Wilson was calling out Baron-Cohen for his alleged behaviour, the Aussie actress claimed that Baron-Cohen "threatened" her over the book's release. </p> <p>Taking to her Instagram, Rebel wrote, “I will not be bullied or silenced with high priced lawyer or PR crisis managers. The ‘a**hole’ that I am talking about in ONE CHAPTER of my book is Sacha Baron Cohen.”</p> <p>"Now the a**hole is trying to threaten me. He’s trying to stop press coming out about my new book. Rebel Wilson's shocking weight loss confession

<p>Rebel Wilson has confessed to using Ozempic to maintain her weight after dropping almost 40kgs in her "year of health" in 2020. </p> <p>While speaking to the <em>Sunday Times </em>about the release of her memoir, <em>Rebel Rising</em>, the Aussie actress confessed to using the drug, which is used to treat type 2 diabetes. </p> <p>The 44-year-old has previously referred to 2020 as her "year of health" after she lost a staggering amount of weight, and has now finally admitted to using Ozempic, but only to maintain her weight. </p> <p>She said, "Someone like me could have a bottomless appetite for sweets, so I think those drugs can be good."</p> <p>Rebel went on to clarify that she is no longer taking the drug, and is happy with her weight. </p> <p>The actress shared how wanting to have a baby kick-started her dramatic weight loss in 2020, but not everyone was happy about her plans for a drastic transformation.</p> <p>"Basically no one apart from my mum wanted me to lose weight," Wilson recalled.</p> <p>"People thought I'd lose my pigeonhole in my career, playing the fat funny character, and they wanted me to continue in that."</p> <p>Over the past four years, Wilson has admitted to gaining some of it back including 20lbs from "stress eating" leading up to the release of her book, with Covid lockdowns also playing a part in her fluctuating weight.</p> <p>"I know that my relationship with food is complicated," she said. </p> <p>"I feel strongly that young women shouldn't try to obsess over looking like Victoria's Secret models — they should just look like themselves."</p> <p><em>Image credits: Getty Images </em></p>

New details shed light on Rebel Wilson's allegations against actor

<p>New details have emerged of Rebel Wilson's allegations against Sacha Baron-Cohen, with the Aussie actress claiming he acted inappropriately towards her while filming a movie in 2014. </p> <p>In the days after Rebel took to Instagram to expose Baron-Cohen for allegedly "<a href="https://oversixty.com.au/finance/legal/rebel-wilson-exposes-a-lister-who-threatened-her-over-book-release" target="_blank" rel="noopener">threatening</a>" her about the publishing of her tell-all memoir, excerpts of Rebel Rising have been published to further detail when the actors worked together on the film <em>Grimsby</em>. </p> <p>The pair both starred in the comedy film 10 years ago, with Rebel detailing in her book how the Hollywood actor, known for his controversial roles as Borat and Ali G, acted inappropriately towards her on set. </p> <p>Once filming began for the movie, Wilson claims that Cohen (SBC) would keep requesting her to go “naked” in a scene, according excerpts of the book obtained by <em><a href="https://people.com/rebel-wilson-details-allegations-about-sacha-baron-cohen-he-calls-false-exclusive-8620597" target="_blank" rel="noopener">People</a></em> magazine. </p> <p>She wrote, “It felt like every time I’d speak to SBC, he’d mention that he wanted me to go naked in a future scene. I was like, ‘Ha, I don’t do nudity, Sacha.’ ”</p> <p>Wilson alleges that Baron-Cohen's behaviour and strange requests only intensified throughout the shoot, coming to a head while they were filming a scene in Cape Town at a soccer stadium. </p> <p>“SBC summons me via a production assistant saying that I’m needed to film an additional scene. ‘Okay, well, we’re gonna film this extra scene,’ SBC says. Then he pulls his pants down … SBC says very matter-of-factly: ‘Okay, now I want you to stick your finger up my a**.’ And I’m like, ‘What?? … No!'”</p> <p>Wilson then continues to allege in the book, “I was now scared. I wanted to get out of there, so I finally compromised: I slapped him on the ass and improvised a few lines as the character.”</p> <p>Sacha Baron-Cohen released a statement via his representatives saying the claims are "demonstrably false", denying the pair had any tension while working together. </p> <p>“While we appreciate the importance of speaking out, these demonstrably false claims are directly contradicted by extensive detailed evidence, including contemporaneous documents, film footage and eyewitness accounts from those present before, during and after the production of The Brothers Grimsby,” a statement from Cohen’s team said in response to Wilson’s allegations.</p> <p>On Tuesday, Rebel took to Instagram to say she was being "threatened" by Baron-Cohen over the release of such information in her book, which is set for release on April 2nd. </p> <p>Rebel named and shamed the actor, writing, “I will not be bullied or silenced with high priced lawyer or PR crisis managers. Jock Zonfrillo and Cal Wilson receive posthumous awards at 2024 AACTAs

<p>The Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts (AACTA) awards have honoured late icons Jock Zonfrillo and Cal Wilson with posthumous awards. </p> <p>Zonfrillo's wife, Lauren Fried spoke about her late husband after <em>MasterChef</em> won Best Reality Series.</p> <p>"I'd love to thank Andy Allen," she began her tribute referring to Zonfrillo's fellow judge on the show, who was on the stage with her at the time. </p> <p>Fried continued, sharing that when her eldest daughter Ava had to deliver her father's eulogy, "she chose Andy to stand by her side and that says everything about the very special place that he has in our family."</p> <p>"Without Jock, the days seemed like they'd been drained of colour, but today is one of pride and celebration for the kids and I."</p> <p>Zonfrillo, tragically <a href="https://www.oversixty.com.au/news/news/shattered-hearts-culinary-world-mourns-tragic-death-of-jock-zonfrillo" target="_blank" rel="noopener">passed away</a> on April 30, 2023 at age 46, with his body found in a Melbourne hotel following a welfare check. </p> <p>Cal Wilson also received a posthumous award for the Best Comedy Performer for hosting <em>The Great Australian Bake Off, </em>which her husband Chris Woods, and their 14-year-old son, Digby accepted for her. </p> <p>Woods said that his late wife would have "bursting with pride" at her achievement and that it was a "dream gig" for her. </p> <p>"This award was a lovely way to recognise Cal's talent and persistence in the industry," he said.</p> <p>"Tomorrow will be four months since I lost my wife, four months since Digby lost his mum and four months since the world lost an amazing and talented woman."</p> <p>The beloved New Zealand- born comedian died on October 11, 2023 after a <a href="https://www.oversixty.com.au/health/caring/cal-wilson-s-cause-of-death-revealed" target="_blank" rel="noopener">short battle</a> with cancer. </p> <p><em>Image: Getty/ Instagram</em></p> <p> </p>

"She was everything": Beach Boys' Brian Wilson shares devastating news

<p>The Beach Boys singer-songwriter Brian Wilson has shared that his wife of nearly 30 years has passed away.</p> <p>The 81-year-old musician broke the news on Instagram on Wednesday morning, saying that his "heart is broken" after his wife Melinda Ledbetter Wilson died aged 77. </p> <p>"Melinda, my beloved wife of 28 years, passed away this morning. Our five children and I are just in tears. We are lost," he wrote in his post, underneath two pictures of his wife.</p> <p>"Melinda was more than my wife. She was my saviour. She gave me the emotional security I needed to have a career," he said.</p> <p>"She encouraged me to make the music that was closest to my heart. She was my anchor. She was everything for us. Please say a prayer for her. <p>Tennis icon Pete Sampras, who is known to keep his life private, has made a rare public statement about his wife's secret health battle.</p> <p>Sampras released a statement through the ATP Tour to share that his Hollywood star wife Bridgette Wilson, has been secretly battling ovarian cancer since last December.</p> <p>The fourteen-time Grand Slam champion asked for “good thoughts and prayers”  as his wife continues to receive treatment. </p> <p>“As most have come to know, I am a pretty quiet and private person,” the statement began. </p> <p>“However, this past year has been an exceptionally challenging time for my family and I have decided to share what’s been going on. </p> <p>"Last December, my wife, Bridgette, was diagnosed with ovarian cancer. Cal Wilson’s cause of death revealed

Suspect revealed in double murder of elderly couple

The couple, who were great-grandparents, passed away a year apart under suspicious circumstances.</p> <p>Speaking at a press conference, Detective Inspector Mark McEachern revealed that both deaths were deliberate acts carried out by the same person, who had a close relationship with the Andersons.</p> <p>"Both were deliberately murdered by the same person who was known and close to both of them," Detective Inspector Mark McEachern told reporters.</p> <p>The suspicions arose due to similarities and irregularities found in the toxicology reports of the deceased couple. It was discovered that the presence of certain medications in their systems was unexplained and raised concerns.</p> <p>"The medication that was in there should not have been there, there was no reason for the medication to have been in their system and that's raised concerns in respect of both deaths," McEachern said.</p> <p>Brenda Anderson's demise initially occurred while she was receiving medical treatment at Noarlunga Hospital in March of the previous year. As her condition worsened, she was transferred to Flinders Medical Centre, where she eventually passed away.</p> <p>During the coronial investigation process, her hospital death came under scrutiny when significant abnormalities were found in the toxicology results. After ruling out any innocent explanation for these irregularities, the investigation turned its focus to the possibility of foul play by a third party known to Mrs. Anderson. The police have expressed confidence in the level of care provided by both hospitals.</p> <p>"Mrs Anderson's hospital death was identified during the coronial investigation process after toxicology results gave significant rise for concern.</p> <p>"When an innocent explanation for toxicology abnormalities was eliminated, the possibility Mrs Anderson's death being a deliberate act by another party became the primary subject of the investigation.</p> <p>"It is believed Mrs Anderson was killed by a person known to her and in close enough relationship to have been visiting her while she was in hospital.</p> <p>"Police have no concerns about the level of care in either hospital, which was exemplary," <span style="font-family: -apple-system, BlinkMacSystemFont, 'Segoe UI', Roboto, Oxygen, Ubuntu, Cantarell, 'Open Sans', 'Helvetica Neue', sans-serif;">McEachern</span><span style="font-family: -apple-system, BlinkMacSystemFont, 'Segoe UI', Roboto, Oxygen, Ubuntu, Cantarell, 'Open Sans', 'Helvetica Neue', sans-serif;"> said.</span></p> <p>In the case of Lynton Anderson, he was discovered unconscious at his residence in Hackham by a caregiver on April 30. He was immediately transported to Flinders Medical Centre by SA Ambulance but succumbed to his condition the following day.</p> <p>Detectives also became suspicious of the toxicology results for Lynton after analysing Brenda's case. However, they have ruled out the involvement of external carers in his death. The police have identified a suspect but declined to provide further details at this stage of the investigation.</p> <p>Authorities are now urging anyone who had contact with the Anderson couple and possesses information related to their deaths and the events leading up to them to come forward. They are particularly interested in hearing from individuals who may have knowledge of any prescribed or non-prescribed medications used by the couple or discussed by them.</p> <p>The community has been left shocked and saddened by the tragic deaths of Brenda and Lynton Anderson. Rebel Wilson’s wedding planning chaos

<p>It’s been an exciting couple of years for Aussie access Rebel Wilson, with 2022 marking <a href="https://www.oversixty.com.au/news/news/beautiful-miracle-rebel-wilson-s-huge-baby-news" target="_blank" rel="noopener">the arrival of her baby</a> and 2023 seeing her <a href="https://www.oversixty.com.au/lifestyle/relationships/we-said-yes-rebel-wilson-drops-major-news-about-personal-life" target="_blank" rel="noopener">engaged</a> to now-finance Ramona Agruma.</p> <p>Although the pair had a fairytale engagement at Disneyland, their wedding planning process has highlighted divided opinions.</p> <p>”Ramona and I have discussed a lot, but it turns out we have different ideas about what the wedding should be," Wilson told <em>E! News</em>. </p> <p>"So I don't know. I don't know who's gonna win," she continued. "We'll do a very beautiful compromise.”</p> <p>Although preparations are well underway, the actress admitted the planning process is going “very slow”.</p> <p>”I've got two movies to shoot this year," the actress said, "and with a 7-month old…so we'll probably get into it more next year.”</p> <p>Wilson welcomed her daughter Royce via surrogate in November 2022 — a process she started in 2019, before meeting Agruma.</p> <p>"It's weird. It's kind of like she came into my life at the exact right time, and then the surrogate getting pregnant and Ramona was really into that. So, it was kind of awesome. It just kind of came together at the right moment."</p> <p>The lovebirds met through a mutual friend, Aussie actor Hugh Sheridan. He told 2Day FM that he loves playing matchmaker, and that he’d been trying to set the two up with other people for years before realising they may be perfect for each other.</p> <p>"'Both were really hard to set up," he confessed in the interview.</p> <p>"Ramona is really smart, and Rebel is really smart. I was in New York with my ex and feeling very sad, and Rebel said she can't imagine how I feels because she's never been in love before!”</p> <p>"I thought, 'Gosh, she's a hard one to crack.' Rebel Wilson and Kyle Sandilands' sweet bonding on air

<p>In a recent appearance on <em>The Kyle & Jackie O Show</em> Aussie actress Rebel Wilson found herself bonding with Kyle Sandilands over the joys of being a new parent.</p> <p>Wilson welcomed her daughter, Royce Lillian, via surrogate in November 2022, taking to Instagram to <a href="https://www.oversixty.com.au/news/news/beautiful-miracle-rebel-wilson-s-huge-baby-news" target="_blank" rel="noopener">announce the news</a>.</p> <p>Like the Aussie star, Sandilands is a recent first-time parent as his partner gave birth to their son Otto in August 2022.</p> <p>Wilson spoke on air about an upcoming movie musical she’s directing in Sydney, as well as the launch of her new dating app Fluid, but naturally, the two parents were eager to chat about their babies.</p> <p>The pair bonded over introducing their babies to new foods, and Wilson told Sandilands she had just been dealing with the unfortunate ordeal of Baby Royce vomiting on her in the early hours of the morning.</p> <p>"I think my baby is allergic to eggs," Wilson told Sandilands. "She just projectile vomited about 20 minutes ago.”</p> <p>Sandilands was quick to sympathise.</p> <p>"We did all that testing," he told Wilson. "A little bit of yolk, a little bit of fish on the hand... very, very nervous with any new things for the baby. Are you in that pattern yet?”</p> <p>Wilson described the food testing as an adventure, saying, "I get vomited on a bit!”</p> <p>The actress and her partner, designer Ramona Argruma, are currently in the process of moving back to Australia with their bub later in 2023.</p> <p>Wilson told the radio hosts that the upcoming production, which is about a debutante ball in a small country town, will be “hilarious”.</p> <p>"We just had the three lead girls, who are Australians, come out to Cannes and we performed three of the songs from the movie," she shared.</p> <p>"We film the movie later this year, and it'll come out in 2024."</p> <p>Image credit: Getty</p>
