Diagnosed with dementia and no longer able to care for himself, the man who once conjured up sounds as warm and perfect as a California summer spent his final months in silence and seclusion.

Born in June 1942, Wilson was the visionary architect of the Beach Boys’ signature sound – angelic harmonies, symphonic arrangements and an aching sense of longing beneath the surface of sun-drenched lyrics. From Surfin’ USA and California Girls to the transcendent God Only Knows and Good Vibrations, his work helped define an era – and inspired generations of artists.

Wilson formed the band in 1961 with his brothers Dennis and Carl, cousin Mike Love and school friend Al Jardine. Together, they captured the youthful exuberance of California with 36 Top 40 hits. Yet the joy in the music stood in stark contrast to the pain in Wilson’s life.

Abused by his father and haunted by mental illness, Wilson suffered his first breakdown in 1966 and soon retreated from live performances. He famously poured his creative energy into the landmark Pet Sounds, a record that initially puzzled US audiences but would go on to become one of the most revered albums of all time.

“It was a symphonic reflection on the loss of innocence,” Wilson said later – a summation of the emotional depth and fragility that marked much of his life’s work.

Heard the sad news about Brian today and thought about all the years I’ve been listening to him and admiring his genius. Rest in peace dear Brian.

— Bob Dylan (@bobdylan) June 11, 2025

Yet even as Wilson shaped the sound of modern music, his inner world was crumbling. He battled schizoaffective disorder, heard voices, fell into drug addiction, and became a recluse – at one point, lying in bed for weeks at a time, rarely bathing, growing obese and isolating himself from even those closest to him.

His struggle for stability led him into the care of controversial therapist Eugene Landy, whose extreme methods – including locking the refrigerator and controlling all aspects of Wilson’s life – would later be deemed exploitative. Landy was eventually removed from Wilson’s life following a court case brought by his family.

Despite brief comebacks, Wilson’s later career never reached the heights of his early brilliance. He appeared frail and tentative in performances, a shadow of the radiant spirit who once made the world dance.

He last toured in 2022.

Wilson was portrayed in the 2014 biopic Love & Mercy, a poignant film that brought renewed appreciation for the depth of his suffering and the greatness of his art.

In a 2007 interview, Wilson offered a quiet summation of his legacy: “I’ve lived a very, very difficult, haunted life.”

And yet, through all the darkness, he gave the world songs that shimmered with light.

Brian Wilson is survived by his daughters Carnie and Wendy – who found pop success in the 1990s with Wilson Phillips – and five children he shared with Melinda, whom he met when she sold him a car.

The music he made continues to echo across generations. His voice may be gone, but his vibrations – good, bad and transcendent – will never fade.

Images: Instagram

Jackie O blown away by breathtaking Archibald portrait

Radio icon Jackie 'O' Henderson has received a dazzling honour that places her in the pantheon of celebrated Australian figures: a stunningly lifelike portrait of the KIIS FM star has been named a finalist in the prestigious 2025 Archibald Prize.

Painted by the immensely gifted artist Kelly Maree, the portrait captures Henderson, 50, in a dreamlike pose, adorned in a delicate blue tulle gown rich with embellishments. The piece has already been hailed as a masterstroke of emotional depth and technical brilliance.

Upon learning of the news, Henderson expressed her profound gratitude, calling the experience "one of the great highlights of my life." Sharing the artwork on social media, she wrote, "To say I’m honoured doesn’t even come close… I’m still in awe."

In a heartfelt message, Henderson recalled how the collaboration came to be. She was in New York when Maree reached out – an encounter she described as “serendipitous”. The artist, who painted actor Josh Heuston for last year’s competition, felt an immediate artistic connection with the broadcasting star. “Turns out we were drawn to each other,” Henderson said.

Maree, equally moved by the recognition, shared her creative vision behind the piece. “I wanted the portrait to feel whimsical, as if she were outside beneath the moonlight,” she explained. “I positioned her leaning forward and looking towards the viewer as if caught in a moment of thought.”

View this post on Instagram

A post shared by Jackie O (@jackieo_official)

The portrait’s lifelike rendering and poetic composition have quickly earned praise from art lovers and critics alike, with many tipping it as a strong contender for this year’s top prize.

The Archibald Prize, Australia’s most esteemed portraiture award, carries a $100,000 prize and will announce its winner on May 9. Whether or not Maree’s portrait takes the top honour, it has already achieved something deeply meaningful – immortalising Jackie 'O' in a work of art as iconic as her career.

Images: Instagram

"How to guarantee you’ll stay poor"

If there’s one thing we can all agree on, it’s that being poor is just a mindset. At least, that’s the hot take from controversial Australian wealth and property guru Jack Henderson.

Henderson recently graced his Facebook followers with a foolproof seven-step plan for staying poor. This list, boldly titled "how to guarantee you’ll stay poor", offers wisdom so profound it could only be matched by a fortune cookie written by a hedge fund manager.

Let’s break it down, shall we?

Start tomorrow, never today.

Read every book and implement nothing.

Hang around other broke people.

Be a victim. Life is unfair.

Fail once and never start again.

Talk a big game. Do nothing you say you will.

Listen to other broke people’s opinions and advice.

While Henderson’s devotees lapped up this advice like an overpriced matcha latte, struggling Australians facing a cost-of-living crisis may find it slightly less helpful. After all, when the price of a head of lettuce rivals that of a luxury handbag, "mindset" isn’t always the issue.

The Reserve Bank of Australia did throw a lifeline to homeowners by cutting interest rates on February 18, but experts say it’s about as useful as offering a band-aid to someone who’s been hit by a bus.

As Aaron Scott, co-founder of Aussie Proptech service bRight Agent, put it: "A rate cut might sound like good news on the surface, but the reality is that it’s unlikely to make a meaningful difference for many homeowners who are already stretched to their financial limits."

Translation: Don’t start dreaming of caviar just yet.

Scott also pointed out that, despite the hype, one rate cut won’t do much beyond covering the cost of a daily coffee. And even then, only if you’re buying it from the budget section of the servo.

"A single rate cut is like getting a 4-cent discount on a $2 per-litre fuel. It might make you feel good, but the saving’s gone by the time you leave the servo."

For those currently navigating the financial minefield of rent, groceries and a mortgage that costs more than a small island in the Pacific, a single rate cut is about as helpful as Henderson’s "mindset coaching".

Recent Roy Morgan research found that 30% of Aussie mortgage holders – 1.5 million families – are experiencing mortgage stress. And with grocery prices skyrocketing, that stress isn’t going anywhere fast.

"On a $1.4 million loan, a 6.75 per cent loan rate dropping to 6.5 per cent will only save the mortgage holder around $107 per fortnight," Scott said.

In other words, just enough to buy an extra carton of eggs – if they’re on special.

As Scott so eloquently put it, "A single RBA cut is like throwing a cup of water on a bushfire – it won’t contain the raging mortgage stress pain."

But hey, at least we’ve got mindset, right? Maybe if we all start tomorrow, read a few books and surround ourselves with equally broke friends, financial freedom will magically appear.

Until then, we’ll just keep admiring Jack Henderson’s wisdom – because if there’s one thing he’s truly mastered, it’s the art of talking a big game.

Now excuse me while I go manifest my way to affording rent this month.

Queen guitarist Brian May recovering from health scare

Sir Brian May's wife, Anita Dobson, has given an update on his health, following his minor stroke last September.

The Queen guitarist, revealed that he had lost control over his arm after the minor stroke, with his wife saying that the health scare had reminded her that "life is precious".

“Brian is stable now”, she told The Sun newspaper.

“The start of the year has been up and down. We both had the flu but we took the kids to Lapland, 15 of them," the actress, who has been married to the musician for almost 25 years, added.

She also said that he had "never been happier" since they had moved from London to the countryside.

“To see what it has done to Brian... he loves it. He loves the birds and the animals”, she said.

“He feeds all the birds and the badgers, foxes and pheasants. It’s like running a pub for animals.”

In another social media post, Sir Brian had previously said the health scare had been “a little scary” but praised the “fantastic care” he received from Frimley Park Hospital in Surrey.

At the time he was "grounded" after being advised not to drive, fly or do any activity which would send his heart rate too high.

Sir Brian and his family have since been “spending time at home” and “taking each day as it comes”.

“It makes you realise that at any minute it could be you. You don’t have to necessarily be old, it could be anyone”, Dobson said.

“You think you are fit; you see these people who run marathons and then at a young age they are gone.

“You have to live every day as if it was your last. It’s not easy to do that.

“You forget and think ‘I’ve got another week’ and it’s all booked up.

"You have to be aware that life is precious, and with life changing so fast we are all on a bit of a thin thread, if you like.”

Image: Maureen McLean/ Shutterstock Editorial

Brian May has spoken out after becoming the target of a dangerous scam, urging people to be careful online.

The guitarist of iconic rock band Queen was made aware of the scam by a fan, who sent him the TikTok of what seems to be May himself offering concert tickets at a discount.

The video, which is actually AI-generated and has nothing to do with May or with Queen, shows the rockstar offering music fans the chance to see a concert from backstage.

“I hope you’re all well out there,” says the fake Brian May in the video. “Some good news. Backstage tickets for my next show in your cities are now going for only $800, which were previously $2000. I’m only selecting 10 people in the comments, so if you’re ready to make payment, comment, ‘ready’.”

May responded to the post publicly, sharing his horror and anger with fans over the “creepy” video, saying, “My God. This is horrific.”

“I suppose this is now so easy to do – and there are always people who will sink to any depths to try to make a quick buck. Disgusting.”

He continued, “Thanks for the alert dear (TikTok username) stereojazz. I’ve alerted our team and hopefully we can squash this.”

Fans were quick to comment that they had almost been fooled by the convincing video.

“That they abuse your beautiful personality for this scam hurts even more and is really scary. I hate it,” commented one.

“It is insanely terrifying what AI can do these days,” wrote another.

Jackie O opens up on loneliness post-divorce

Jackie 'O' Henderson has opened up on being gripped with feelings of loneliness in the years following her divorce.

Speaking with fans at Luke McLeod's book launch for Everyday Enlightenment on Thursday night, the 49-year-old admitted she is "desperate" to find love and companionship.

After being single for over five years, Jackie said it feels like "something's missing" in her life.

"I just really want to find someone. I can't find him and I'm sort of a bit lost at the moment," she said.

When Luke asked why she was so desperate to get into a relationship, Jackie said she couldn't quite put her finger on it, but it felt like "a piece" of her was "missing".

"I have a lot of love to give or I want that affection, that company. It just feels like there's something missing in my life," she added.

Jackie went on to tell her fans that Luke had previously given a piece of advice that "changed my life".

He said she was giving off too much "desperate energy", and if she really wanted to attract love in her life, then she needed to be grateful for what she already has.

"I said to him, 'How am I meant to change what I want and need? I feel like I need that in my life and I really want that. I can't just switch that off,'" she admitted.

Jackie has been adopting Luke's technique, and makes time every day to express gratitude for what she already has, and not for what she's missing.

'Now I'm at a place where I've almost gone the other way. I'm so happy being single and not looking for someone because I'm genuinely happy with my life,' she said.

Jackie O separated from her husband Lee Henderson in 2018 after they married in 2003, with the pair now co-parenting their daughter Kitty.

"I'm not myself": The real reason why Kyle Sandilands stormed off the show

Jackie O Henderson has revealed the real reason why her co-host, Kyle Sandilands, walked out just 11 minutes into their hit breakfast show on Tuesday morning.

The shock jock was nowhere to be seen on Wednesday, so Jackie O had to explain his absence.

One of their producers revealed that Sandilands had been "struggling with his shoulder."

"He sent me a message saying, 'Honey, I'm so sorry. I'm on medication and I'm not myself. I'm in so much pain," Henderson said.

"I actually feel so bad for him," admitted the radio star.

Sandilands had recently injured his rotator cuff and was prescribed Oxycodone to manage the pain.

A few of the side effects of using the painkiller can include light-headedness, confusion and unusual tiredness or weakness.

Henderson also admitted that she may have pushed him off the edge during their discussion about Covid-19 yesterday, as she had reportedly cussed him out.

"Calling him a c**ksucker was the turning point," she said.

Their argument had escalated into name-calling before Sandilands stormed out.

Sandilands had previously used the derogatory term to attack newsreader Brooklyn Ross, and he couldn't when his co-host used the same insult back at him.

This incident comes almost a week into the radio duo signing a record-breaking $200 million 10-year deal on air.

Image: Kyle and Jackie O Show/ Instagram

Kyle Sandilands storms out of studio after argument with Jackie O

Kyle Sandilands has stormed off his hit KIIS FM radio program after an argument with his co-host Jackie O Henderson over Covid-19.

Sandilands stormed off just 11 minutes into the show on Tuesday morning, after bringing up that NSW Premier Chris Minns had cancelled his appearance on their show after testing positive to the virus.

The argument sparked when Henderson downplayed the seriousness of the virus and said it was "just like the flu".

Sandilands hit back saying that Henderson would probably still isolate if she caught the virus, considering how cautious she was in the past.

"I'm allowed to change my opinion," Henderson shot back.

Sandilands then argued that she should have some "consistency" in her opinions, before declaring that he was going home and storming out of the studio.

"Well that escalated quickly," a stunned Henderson said.

Not long after their Executive producer Pedro Vitola confirmed that the radio host had gone home.

"What's happening today?" Henderson asked.

"I'm telling you this full moon, it messes with people," she added referring to what astrologers call the full moon in Gemini, which they believe is a period when people are a bit more restless and rife with misunderstandings.

It is unclear whether Henderson also went home as it is reported that the show has been playing repeats of old segments.

Images: Instagram/ KIIS FM

Stepson of billionaire trapped on sub called out for gross behaviour

The stepson of the billionaire trapped onboard the OceanGate Titanic submersible has been called out online for attending a rock concert while his step-father remains missing in the Atlantic Ocean.

Brian Szasz is the stepson of billionaire Hamish Harding, who is trapped on the missing vessel along with four others, days after the group left on an expedition to the wreckage of the Titanic.

While rescue efforts continue to locate the group, Szasz has caused a stir online after being spotted with a beaming smile attending a Blink-182.

Among those furious and confused by Szasz's actions was rapper Cardi B, who slammed the man on Instagram to her 167 million followers.

"One of the billionaires that's missing underwater from that submarine s–t …Their stepson is at a concert, right?" Cardi B starts.

The rapper noted that she felt that attending a concert, and post about it online amid the search and rescue of a loved one felt tone deaf.

"People is like, um, 'What is he supposed to do? "That's crazy. I'd rather be broke. I'd rather be broke and poor, but knowing that I'm loved."

Szasz fired back at the rapper, telling her to "show some class for once in your life", while he responded to the media storm after he claimed his family "would've wanted him to go" to the concert.

"Yes, I went to @Blink182 last night. What am I supposed to do, sit at home and watch the news? Not sorry this band has helped me through hard times since 1998."

Just hours after the online backlash over attending the concert, Szasz was once again being slammed online for flirting with an OnlyFans model on Twitter.

Szasz retweeted an image of Only Fans it-girl Brea flashing her backside in a G-string with the caption, “can i sit on u” on the social media site, with Szasz responding, “Yes please!”

The post came just minutes after he asked followers to “please keep my family in your prayers.”

One commenter wrote of the unusual behaviour, “Lmao quote tweeting a thirst trap while your stepdad is lost at sea is wild business”, as another slammed, “Unreal to be tweeting this [right now.]”

Another user added, “This guy loves blink-182 and having ladies sit on his face and he’s not afraid to let the world know.”

Image credits: Facebook / Action Aviation

“I’m going home”: Kyle Sandilands' dramatic walkout

Radio giant Kyle Sandilands is renowned for his blunt approach, and paired with his passion to shock his loyal listeners, he never fails to leave mouths agape.

And on June 8, a segment of the Kyle & Jackie O Show saw the shock jock at his wit's end when he stormed out of the studio after an argument with producers.

Sandilands, 51, decided he had had enough of his producers “killing his vibe” and left the building in a fit of rage.

His abrupt departure shocked listeners, who were tuning in to enjoy the show’s typical witty banter.

"What do you mean? Okay, stop the whole show. Turn that music off,” an audibly disgruntled Sandilands remarked.

His co-host Jackie “O” Henderson was quick to come to his defence.

“This show is not fun. Energy is off with everybody,” she added.

The tiff then escalated into a heated argument among the team members.

Producer Pete Deppeler instructed newsreader Brooklyn Ross to amp up his energy levels, a comment quickly met with a remark from another producer, “P** off Pete”.

Caught up in the theatrics of it all Jackie O chimed in again.

“You're killing my vibe guys,” she said.

Executive Producer Pedro Vitola then stepped into the conflict.

"To my defence and the reason I got very angry was, I'm so bored here,” he admitted.

However, Sandilands had the final say.

“Well, you know what? I'm going home,” he announced, before removing his headphones and exiting the studio in a huff.

“I'm exhausted as an entertainer,” he declared.

All the highlights of Kyle's Big Day

In the star-studded Australian party of the year (so far), familiar faces from all realms of ‘celebrity’ have flocked to ‘shock jock’ Kyle Sandiland and Tegan Kynaston’s Darling Point wedding.

Among the guests were Kyle’s radio co-host Jackie O, singer Guy Sebastian, Today’s Karl Stefanovic, and former-NRL-turned-TV-star Beau Ryan. Convicted drug smuggler Simon Main and former-Kings Cross nightclub owner John Ibrahim were also in attendance - as well as Australia’s prime minister, Anthony Albanese.

The latter drew waves of criticism for his decision to attend in the lead up to the big day, particularly when considering the shadier portions of Kyle and now-wife Tegan’s guest list.

However, when pressed about it, Albanese stressed that he was just going to witness their love.

“Yes, I was invited to the wedding,” he said. “yes, I was invited in the context of Kyle saying how happy he was with Tegan.

"The thing that occurs at a wedding, it's a public expression in front of people, invited guests, of love between two people. That's a good thing.

"I enjoy weddings and I will be going to the wedding."

Albanese made matters worse for himself when he went on to call Kyle an “Australian success story”, with many quick to point out the many controversies surrounding the radio host over the course of his career in the public eye.

However, for those who were at the wedding, it was good to see the top politician there - who stayed for most of the night, despite assumptions he would pop in to congratulate the couple and then dash out again.

“I’ll be honest with you,” Beau Ryan told The Daily Telegraph, “it was a big effort for him to come.

“I thought he’d turn up for a hi-and-bye, but he was there for a lot of the night. I had visions of Albo with the headphones on, fully DJ’ing, but a DJ came in after Guy [Sebastian] and Conrad [Sewell] performed,” Ryan continued.

As Karl Stefanovic added, “it was an absolutely fabulous wedding.

“A great big Aussie mix of family and friends. And a Premier and a PM whose partners are more fun than them.

“The best part was Tegan’s grandfather walking her down the aisle, 97 years young.”

Singer Guy Sebastian - who sang Ray Charles’ ‘Hallelujah I Love Her So’ for the couple’s first dance - also opened up about his experience at the event, explaining that he “loved performing for their first dance, which started out as a romantic moment between the two of them, and ended with the whole room joining in with them.

“I’ve known Kyle for 20 years now, he has always been in my corner and it’s great to see him so happy in love as a husband and a dad.”

As for whether or not he had any particularly strong feelings about controversy surrounding the guest selection, Guy only had one thing to note, “it was the diversity in that community which made for some seriously interesting people watching.”

And when it came to the happy pair and their future together, he gushed that “Tegan is such a kind and calm person and seeing them balance each other out on the day made it obvious to everyone that they are perfect for each other.”

“Kyle was really overwhelmed and emotional,” Beau shared. “The ‘wow’ moment was when we all turned around and saw her at the end of the aisle.

“My wife grabbed me and said ‘look at Kyle’. Seeing him be vulnerable was quite powerful.”

Images: Instagram
