Federal police issues warning for Aussie travellers

The Australian Federal Police (AFP) have issued a warning to Australian travellers to be vigilant when passing through airports and report any suspicious activity.

The warning has be issued in wake of last week’s tragic Egypt Air crash, and is the only specific response the AFP have giving to the aviation incident.

An AFP spokeswoman said in a statement, “(The) EgyptAir incident remains a matter for Egyptian authorities in co-operation with partner countries assisting their response”.

The AFP is responsible for counter-terrorism at international airports including Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth, Adelaide, Cairns, the Gold Coast and Darwin.

The AFP spokeswoman said these warnings are designed to provide an, “ongoing cooperative avenue for the travelling public, airline stakeholders and employees to engage with relevant authorities about security concerns”.

“We ask the public to remain vigilant at all times when travelling through Australia’s airports and to report any suspicious activity via Airport Watch on 131-237, or triple-0 if the matter is urgent.”
