"Someone is going to die": Kerri-Anne slams "irresponsible" Elle Macpherson interview

Kerri-Anne Kennerley has slammed Elle Macpherson for announcing that she allegedly "cured" her breast cancer after shunning the advice of doctors and opting for "holistic" treatment paths instead, while also taking aim at 60 Minutes for airing an interview with the supermodel where she doubled down on her beliefs.

In her new memoir, Elle: Life, Lessons, and Learning to Trust Yourself, Macpherson revealed that at the age of 53, she was diagnosed with breast cancer and decided to go against doctors orders for her treatment.

The 60-year-old recalled how her doctors recommended a mastectomy with radiation, chemotherapy, hormone therapy, plus reconstruction of her breast to fight the illness, and how she instead decide to forge her own path of "holistic wellness" to beat the disease without the use on conventional medicines, which she claims "cured" her cancer.

“It really gave me an opportunity to dig deep in my inner sense to find a solution that worked for me," she told Australian's Women's Weekly. “It was a wonderful exercise in being true to myself, trusting myself and trusting the nature of my body and the course of action that I had chosen.”

Macpherson then doubled down on her decision in an exclusive interview with 60 Minutes on Sunday, in which she claimed that there is “no possibility” of her breast cancer recurring given “the body has the infinite capacity to heal”, and making the bizarre remark that it’s “fear” that actually makes people ill.

Kerri-Anne Kennerley, who is also a survivor of breast cancer, was one of many who found problems with the interview, as she said it was dangerous for the news program to broadcast such information.

“Think of the poor oncologists, surgeons and doctors today … inundated with phone calls from people (saying) ‘I’m rethinking my treatment because Elle Macpherson said this and that’,” she told The Australian.

“I understand Elle … did what she thought was good for her personally, but the very fact she has resisted any other medical treatment … absolutely terrifies me.”

“Without question, it will result in the future that somebody will take that line and feel confident enough to try and do it themselves naturally, and someone is going to die.”

Kennerley, who was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2012, said the 60 Minutes report should've been more "balanced" by having expert testimony from doctors as a counterargument to Elle's claims.

“(60 Minutes reporter) Tracy (Grimshaw) did a piece to camera about it. But to be seriously responsible, you have to have an oncologist who could actually balance Elle’s remarks,” Kennerley said.

“I believe 60 Minutes was irresponsible by not having an oncologist who would give an alternative point of view. Elle’s given her natural point of view, and she’s followed through with it. They should have absolutely gotten an oncologist that said ‘as an oncologist, I’ve seen this type of cancer and many other types of cancers in my 30-year career. People who have not followed the advice have died.'”

Image credits: 60 Minutes / Instagram

She was lucky that clearly the lumpectomy removed all the cancerous cells and it hadn't spread, but implying she 'cured' cancer holistically is reckless beyond belief."

Another person said, "Going through my own breast cancer battle atm I wish I there was a 'holistic approach' but there’s not... What I do have is different options & I’ll take whatever treatments both my oncologist’s offer me to ensure I live a longer life to be with my husband and kids."

A third person added, "A lumpectomy isn't holistic, and she wouldn't have even known about the cancer 'to treat holistically' had she not gone the conventional medical route in the first place."

Many took aim at the dangerous rhetoric, with one person saying, "There is real toxic wellness/positivity culture out there at the moment that is both unnerving and dangerous," while another added, "As a survivor, I am absolutely livid. This nonsense costs lives."

Elle Macpherson reveals secret battle with cancer

Elle Macpherson has revealed how she shunned the advice of dozens of doctors after being diagnosed with breast cancer seven years ago.

The Aussie supermodel has revealed her health journey for the first time in her new memoir Elle: Life, Lessons, and Learning to Trust Yourself, sharing how she decided to forge her own path of wellness to tackle the disease.

Speaking candidly about her health to Australian Women's Weekly, the 60-year-old said deciding to take a holistic approach to fighting cancer was “the hardest thing I have ever done”.

After being diagnosed with breast cancer at the age of 53 after a lumpectomy, Macpherson's doctors recommended a mastectomy with radiation, chemotherapy, hormone therapy, plus reconstruction of her breast to fight the illness.

“It was a shock, it was unexpected, it was confusing, it was daunting in so many ways,” she told the magazine.

“It really gave me an opportunity to dig deep in my inner sense to find a solution that worked for me."

“It was a wonderful exercise in being true to myself, trusting myself and trusting the nature of my body and the course of action that I had chosen.”

The model instead opted for “an intuitive, heart-led, holistic approach” to treating her cancer that used a “combination of therapies and lifestyle changes to treat and heal the whole person”.

“Saying no to standard medical solutions was the hardest thing I’ve ever done in my life,” she said. “But saying no to my own inner sense would have been even harder.”

Elle said that she recognised that her approach to cancer isn't for everyone, but she felt the holistic approach was best for her overall health.

“I came to the understanding that there was no sure thing and absolutely no guarantees. There was no ‘right’ way, just the right way for me”, she writes, according to Women’s Weekly.

“Sometimes an authentic choice from the heart makes no sense to others … but it doesn’t have to. People thought I was crazy but I knew I had to make a choice that truly resonated with me.

“To me, that meant addressing emotional as well as physical factors associated with breast cancer. It was time for deep, inner reflection. And that took courage.”

Macpherson, who shares two sons, Flynn, 26, and Cy, 21, with former partner, Arpad Busson, said her medical decisions caused some tension in the family, admitting that her sons were skeptical of her choices.

“Cy simply thought that chemo kills you. And so he never wanted me to do it because he thought that was a kiss of death,” she said.

“Flynn, being more conventional, wasn’t comfortable with my choice at all. He is my son, though, and would support me through anything and love me through my choices, even if he didn’t agree with them.”

Reflecting on her current health, Macpherson said, “In traditional terms, they’d say I’m in clinical remission, but I would say I’m in utter wellness. And I am."

“Truly, from every perspective, every blood test, every scan, every imaging test … but also emotionally, spiritually and mentally — not only physically."

Elle Macpherson reveals the one thing that “transformed” her life

Elle Macpherson, who is known for her record five cover appearances on Sports Illustrated, has shared her age-defying secrets to looking “flawless” in her 50s.

The supermodel, who earned the nickname “The Body” in the 1980s, took to her Instagram stories to share the one practice that “transformed” her life.

“When I turned 50, I just wasn’t feeling very well and I wasn’t looking very well. I noticed my skin, hair, and weight … I was just not feeling inspired, I had sugar cravings, and poor digestion,” she admitted in a snippet of a past interview with NBC’s Megyn Kelly.

“So I went to my nutritionist and said, ‘Listen, something is wrong. I need to address my lifestyle.’

“She said I was taking a lot of synthetic vitamins so she put me on a powerful multivitamin, prebiotic, and probiotic powder.

“So I started taking it because I was kind of malnourished and I wasn’t sleeping much and I wasn’t eating enough fruit and vegetables and I was drinking too much coffee.”

She revealed that after one month of being on the nutrition plan and taking natural multivitamins the changes were so visible that it changed her life.

“I saw such a change and my friend, who is now my CEO, said, ‘What are you doing? You look amazing,’” she recalled.

Macpherson then went on to co-found her own natural supplement and wellness business, WelleCo, with Andrea Horwood.

The supermodel strongly believes in the benefits of good gut health and using plant-based products for their wellness.

In a previous interview with Body+Soul she also revealed that aside from her physical health, she also takes care of her mental and spiritual health through meditation.

“I take care of my mind, body and spirit every day with breath practice and meditation,” she told the publication.

“My daily practice includes meditating in the morning for around 25 minutes — either guided, or in silence.

“I try to live my life in a perpetual flow of meditative connection rather than just at specified times.”

Images: Instagram

Like, don’t waste my time.”

View this post on Instagram

A post shared by The Block (@theblock)

Block host Scott Cam also shared his thoughts on the pair through veiled digs in voiceovers throughout episode one.

In one, he described Ferguson as a “self-confessed global influencer and beauty entrepreneur”, referring to the couple as “Bondi babes” in another instance.

Cam’s comments in the episode come after he suggested in several interviews that Ferguson and Patfull left the show within 48 hours of arriving because they weren’t up to the challenge, and not because of Patfull’s mother’s ill-health.

The reality show host has sledged the pair for leaving so soon, calling it “p*ss poor” and “unAustralian” behaviour, telling news.com.au in the lead-up to the premiere that they left in the middle of the night with “no explanation”.

“They didn’t give us a reason why they were leaving. Scott Cam "speaks from the heart" about Block stars' abrupt exit

When two Block stars exited the show within 48 hours, passionate host Scott Cam was left reeling.

He called Elle Ferguson and Joel Patfull’s actions as “p*** poor” and “unAustralian” who reportedly left to look after Joel’s mum who suffered a nasty fall.

However, Scott was left unsure as to why the influencer and former AFL star left abruptly when the show accommodated them to look after Joel’s mother Trish who reportedly was being treated for possible bleeding of the brain, a broken coccyx and a fractured wrist.

“They didn’t give us a reason why they were leaving. They never mentioned anything to us about visiting their sick mother,” Scott told news.com.au.

“In fact, we flew them to Adelaide before The Block started for a week, and put them up in a hotel so they could see (Joel’s mother), and they came back and said everything’s fine.”

Scott explained that even though they were visiting Joel’s mother the week prior, their disappearance “in the middle of the night” was done without warning and with no mention of the sick mum.

“They never spoke to us, they just left in the middle of the night…I still don’t know why they left,” Scott continued.

“They never mentioned their sick mother in the 48 hours before they left, or after they left. The executive producer spoke to them (after they left) and they didn’t mention their sick mother then either.”

Scott doesn’t want to come across as heartless and said “family comes first” but had Elle and Joel been truthful they would have stopped the production of The Block until they came back.

He explained that it is something that has occurred in the past when a team had to go back and visit family and The Block “temporarily stopped” shooting.

At the time of their exit, Elle posted a caption to Instagram that read: “Wherever you are in the world. Whatever you are doing. Family always comes first”.

When the pair left the show, Scott was fuming because after just 48 hours on the show, they were forced to reshoot promos.

“45,000 people applied to be on The Block and win life-changing money. These guys got on and they just couldn’t handle the pace after 48 hours … Which to me is a bit unAustralian! Have a go! It’s p*ss poor,” he previously said.

“Obviously I wish Joel and Elle success in the future. It’s just that they created a fair bit of chaos for us here in the first 48 hours.

“The show … we put a lot of time and money into the start of our show and then we had to rejig the whole thing … the whole promos had to be re-shot.

“It just was a lot of angst on our part when they just departed the way they did.

“When I say those words, that’s just Scott Cam speaking from the heart.”

The Block Tree Change hits the screens on Sunday, August 7 at 7pm on Channel 9.

Images: Channel 9

Making history: The first ever team to quit The Block

Producers at The Block have been forced to take swift action after two of this season’s competitors have quit the show only a few days into filming.

Influencer Elle Ferguson and fiancé, former AFL player Joel Patfull, have had to leave the season as Joel’s mother suffered a nasty fall.

Patfull, formerly of the GWS Giants, and fashion and beauty blogger Ferguson have reportedly made their way to Adelaide. Trish, Patfull's mother, is receiving treatment for possible bleeding of the brain, a broken coccyx and a fractured wrist.

“Wherever you are in the world. Whatever you are doing. Family always comes first,” Ferguson wrote on her Instagram Stories yesterday, sharing photos of the couple travelling back to Adelaide.

Their departure comes just days into filming, leaving The Block one couple down for this season. However, in a statement today, a Nine spokesperson confirmed that a replacement couple have already been cast.

“Over the weekend, we were surprised to have one of our new contestant teams depart The Block a few days into filming for the upcoming season. We wish them all the best for the future and we’re excited to have cast two new Aussies for the opportunity of a lifetime on The Block. The Block Tree Change will air as scheduled later this year,” the statement read.

The couple’s departure is the first time in the history of The Block that a team have quit the show.

It’s been a bumpy start for what will be a very different season this year, especially after filming on the season was stopped before it even got started earlier this month.

It was reported that on April 6th, filming had to be pushed back when one contestant was positive for Covid the day before the shoot was set to begin.

Spending the last 17 seasons transforming inner-city Melbourne properties, for the first time the show will be heading to a regional location, in Gisborne South near the Macedon Ranges. This time around contestants will be tasked with transforming country homes.

Host Scott Cam is also expected to renovate his own Block property on the show for the first time.

Image: Instagram
