Daryl Somers drops big hint over Hey Hey It's Saturday tour

Daryl Somers, 72, was named Victorian of the Year during a ceremony at Melbourne Town Hall on Monday. During his speech, the TV veteran revealed that he was "serious" about touring highlights from his iconic show, Hey Hey It's Saturday. “I’m seriously considering going out and touring with the archives because we’ve digitised well over 20 years worth of Hey Hey,” Somers revealed. “There are some marvellous backstories to things that happened over that time.” The presenter accepted the honour for his charitable contributions and services to entertainment, after a nearly 30 year career on the show, which ran until 1999. He told the audience that he was a "performer at heart" and missed the excitement of live entertainment. During his speech, he also admitted that even though it was an honour to receive the award, it had come at a difficult time, following the death of close friend and former co-star John Blackman, who served as Hey, Hey’s voiceover artist for the show. Blackman passed away on June 4 after a battle with cancer. “It is an honour, I’m a born-and-bred Victorian,” he said. “You think about the highs and lows in life and this is a high for me at the end of a rather solemn week. “Last week, we laid to rest my dear friend John Blackman. John was a passionate and loyal Victorian as well. “He is not here, but in part I’d like to dedicate this award to him because we had an endearing friendship. I love the guy – we went back over 50 years.” Somers also thanked his team and his wife, Julie for supporting him throughout his career. Logies 2024 Award nominations revealed

The nominations for the 2024 Logie Awards has just dropped and here are all the stars and shows going for gold this year. Andy Lee, known as the host of The Hundred with Andy Lee is returning to the Logies with his first nomination since 2015, and is hoping to get his very first Gold Logie win for Most Popular Personality on Australian Television. "It's a super exciting time for me and for our show The Hundred which just keeps getting bigger and bigger," he told 9Entertainment. "I think there must've been an administration error and they've confused my name with Hamish [Blake's]," he joked. He is up against, Julia Morris, Robert Irwin and Sonia Kruger among other stars vying for this year's Gold Logie. 60 Minutes and A Current Affair were both nominated in the Best Current Affairs Program category, while Travel Guides and Better Homes and Gardens picked up a nomination in the lifestyle program category. This year's Logies will be hosted by comedian Sam Pang and will be broadcast on Channel Seven on Sunday, August 18. Kevin Costner reveals heartwarming interaction with Prince William

Kevin Costner has revealed that Prince William left a strong impression on him after the royal organised a meet-up with him several years ago. "I happened to be in England, and I got this message that the Prince would love to talk, and I said, 'What?'... and then I went, 'Okay'," the Hollywood actor told People magazine. "We met in this room, and it was just us. He walked up, and we shook hands. ..." What came out of the royals mouth next left the actor feeling delighted, as he revealed that his late mother, Princess Diana, had a crush on Costner. "The first line out of his mouth was, 'You know, my mom kind of fancied you'." He described Prince William as "quite a young man," and that the interaction had left him with "fond memories of who he was, how I was approached and what we talked about." Costner also revealed that he had talks with the late Princess about being involved in the sequel to his iconic film The Bodyguard. "There was a moment that that was really flying down the tracks, very quietly, because it's how I operate," he said. The three-time Golden Globe winner shared that Sarah Ferguson was the one who introduced him to the Diana. "It was so sweet. Sarah was the one that set this up. Sarah was very cool... when she could have been going, 'Well, I'm a princess too. What about me? ' She didn't do that at all. Diana and I began to talk," he praised the Duchess of York. "No fan of mine": Kyle Sandilands shocked on air by brutal John Blackman audio

Kyle Sandilands was paying tribute to his “childhood hero” Hey Hey it's Saturday star John Blackman on-air Thursday morning, when he was interrupted by an audio of the late star trashing him in a recent interview. Speaking on the Kyle and Jackie O Show, the shock jock said he was upset when he learned of <a href="https://www.oversixty.com.au/health/caring/australia-is-a-sadder-place-shock-as-john-blackman-s-death-confirmed" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Blackman's passing</a>, but before he was able to elaborate on how the radio star was his childhood hero, his manager Bruno Bouchet interjected and told him about Blackman's brutal review. In a May interview on the You Cannot Be Serious podcast, Blackman said: “Why are we giving these two publicity hungry, oxygen thieves, waste of oxygen. The man [Sandilands] is a no talent. He doesn’t have a voice for radio, by the way.” Footage of Sandilands listening to the audio for the first time was shared by KIIS FM on their Instagram stories, and both he and Henderson were shocked. “I’m very confused,” Sandilands said, before coming to the conclusion that Blackman wasn’t a fan of him because he’s not as polished as “old school” media veterans. “What’s happened here is old school media, TV, radio, newspapers. They’re all fake,” he said. “They pretend everything’s wonderful. You never really know the real person." He then elaborated and said that he and Henderson try to keep it real with their listeners. “We don’t pretend it’s a wonderful day. Even though it’s p*ssing with rain and snowing or whatever. Cyndi Lauper announces farewell tour

Cyndi Lauper is saying goodbye to fans after announcing that her upcoming US tour will also be her last. The music legend, who turns 71 later this month, will go on a 23-date tour of the US and Canada in October. The announcement of her tour titled Girls Just Wanna Have Fun: The Farewell Tour, sent fans into a frenzy on social media, as they begged her to extend her last tour to more countries. “Farewell tour? Nooo,” wrote one fan on Instagram. “I’m so happy and so incredibly sad. I know you have worked your booty off since the very early 80s and you are due for a darn good rest but I just cannot imagine not seeing you all the time,” another added. “I hate farewells and I am so thankful I grew up when your music was always on the radio!” a third wrote. Fans hoped that the singer would hold a similar farewell tour to fellow pop diva Cher, who went on a 326-date farewell tour from 2002 to 2005. Cher has since performed two more world tours and two separate Las Vegas residences, making it a total of 430 concerts since her announcement. Lauper has not yet spoken publicly about what exactly this “farewell” means in terms of whether she is retiring from touring or the music industry altogether. The singer last visited Australia in March 2023, when she was a support act for Rod Stewart. Channel 10 axes another show amid ratings crisis

Channel 10 has decided to axe yet another popular show as they continue to grapple with declining ratings and viewers leaving. Following the cancellation of The Bachelors and The Masked Singer, <a href="https://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-13449749/Channel-10-axes-amid-ratings-crisis-revealed-Channel-Seven-considering-saving-unlikely-series.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Daily Mail Australia</a> reported that the network was also cancelling Gladiators. Despite the show's success in the UK, the Australian reboot struggled to find the same effect as they failed to sustain their initial viewership. The show produced by Warner Bros and hosted by Beau Ryan and Liz Ellis was launched with high hopes and attracted 395,000 metro viewers during its premiere. However, by the second episode the numbers plummeted to just 196,000 - over half of the initial viewership. Critics on social media were also quick to point out the lack of crowd presence, despite the show being filmed under normal conditions, with one person saying: "It felt like watching an event without any real energy." The Traitors is another the show that was axed by the network after just two seasons, and now an insider has revealed that Channel Seven is considering commissioning the series. "The show's concept has potential, but it needs a fresh approach and a new platform," the insider told Daily Mail Australia. They also shared what's in store for Channel 10 as they attempt to revive their ratings. "Channel 10 is now deciding to put all their eggs in one basket, planning to roll out not one, but two seasons of Australian Survivor in 2025," the insider said. "They are putting together a 10th season special as well as an Australia vs USA Survivor all-star showdown which will be screened simultaneously in America and Down Under." A Channel 10 executive said: "Survivor has consistently performed well for us, and we believe this new approach will reignite audience interest." "I am so lost without you": Sam Rubin's son speaks out

Sam Rubin’s son has delivered an emotional on-air tribute to his late dad just days after his <a href="https://oversixty.com.au/health/caring/legendary-today-show-reporter-dies-unexpectedly" target="_blank" rel="noopener">passing</a>. The entertainment reporter died unexpectedly at the age of 64, after reportedly suffering a heart attack in his Los Angeles home last Friday. He worked for LA TV station KTLA as their entertainment reporter, and was a regular guest on Aussie programs like Today and Today Extra. Colby Rubin, the youngest of the reporter's four children, joined KTLA 5 Morning News on Monday to reflect on his father's death. “Hi dad. I wrote this under the desk in your cubicle – only you weren’t there to wake me up this time. Dad, I can’t believe you’re gone,” the 16-year-old began. “I love you so much. On the day you died, I hope you heard me say that. You were the kindest soul, the light in every room. I can’t imagine my life without you... You were always there.” He said he idolised his father calling him his hero, and said: “I never got to tell you that, and I’m so sorry dad.” Colby then shared some of their private texts showing how encouraging his father was when he was unsure of himself, telling him: "You can do this,” and "you have every gift. Channel 10 presenter Narelda Jacobs has exposed a “humiliating” email she received from a viewer who commented on an outfit she wore on-air Tuesday. The Australian journalist, who hosts 10 News First, wore a v-neck blouse and patterned blazer when she was reporting that day, when the unsolicited "feedback" came through. Jacobs shared a screenshot of the email that was sent to the Ten News group on Instagram. “Inappropriate dress sense for reading the news. Cleavage is for the nightclub,” the email read. Addressing the email, Jacobs began: “Yes, we still receive emails like this. Yes, it went to the entire newsroom." “Yes, I was on air at the time. Yes, it is intended to shame and humiliate me," the 48-year-old added. “No, what I’m wearing is not inappropriate but your email sure is.” Followers took to the comments to back Jacobs, with fellow journalists sharing their own experience of receiving sexist criticism. The biggest box office bombs for 2023 have been revealed, with Disney dominating the list. New data from <a href="https://deadline.com/2024/05/biggest-box-office-bombs-2023-lowest-grossing-movies-1235902825/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Deadline</a> reports that four Disney films ranked topped the list of movies with the highest studio net loss for 2023. While the outlet reported that Disney typically “owns a majority of the year’s top 10 most profitable films thanks to Marvel movies,” that was not the case for 2023. According to their calculations, superhero film The Marvels had a studio net loss of $A358 million, after only earning the franchise $71 million at the box office in its opening weekend, their lowest number to date. In November 2023, Disney CEO Bob Iger addressed the box office blunder at The New York Times’ Dealbook Summit, saying that because the film was shot during covid, “there wasn’t as much supervision on the set, so to speak, where we have executives [that are] really looking over what’s being done day after day after day.” Deadline claimed that another reason why the film flopped was because it "was trying to thread storylines from Disney+ shows like Ms. Marvel," which wasn't as well-received by fans compared to other series like Loki and WandaVision. Iger shared the same belief, saying that Marvel’s mass of content on Disney+ "diluted focus and attention," contributing to the franchise's failure at the box office. The Marvels was followed by The Flash, a Warner Bros. and DC production with a $234 million studio net loss. During an episode of the American game show this week, Floridian contestant Kimberly Wright failed to complete the puzzle when she picked the wrong letter, according to Fox News. The former Australian Idol winner, 48, took to Instagram to announce that he had to undergo an "emergency procedure" although the exact details of the procedure was kept under wraps. "Hi guys, due to unforeseen circumstances I'm afraid I have to postpone this weekend's shows at Thornbury Theatre and West Gippsland Arts Centre," he began on the post shared on Friday. "I'm so sorry to do this but I had to undergo an emergency procedure yesterday that now prevents me from travelling for the next few days. "Huge apologies again everyone but I look forward to seeing you all at the rescheduled shows soon!" he concluded. Fans took to the comments to wish the star a speedy recovery. "I am lucky to be here": Julie Goodwin opens up on childhood trauma

Julie Goodwin has opened up about the childhood abuse she experienced in her latest memoir. The 53-year-old MasterChef Australia star wrote about how she was sexually abused as a child and later attempted suicide as a teenager in her autobiography, Your Time Starts Now. Speaking to The Australian Women's Weekly, Goodwin recalled how the memory of the abuse which she had buried for a long time returned when she was 16. "Nothing triggered it, it was just like the memory was always there, like a dusty book on a library shelf," she said. "And one day I took it down and looked at it and went, 'Holy crap, how have I not thought about that for nine years?'" Goodwin, however kept the resurfaced memory to her self and maintained an excellent academic record at high school, even becoming school captain, until a year later when she attempted suicide at the age of 17. She shared that following her hospitalisation, she returned to school a few days later and acted as if nothing serious had happened. The TV star then opened up on her road to recovery and the tremendous amount of help she received from her husband Mick, who gave her the love and support she needed. Hollywood’s night of nights is back in full force this year and it's more glamorous and chaotic than ever. Jimmy Kimmel, who returned as a host at the annual Academy Awards for the fourth time, kicked off the festivities by addressing the <a href="https://www.oversixty.com.au/entertainment/movies/margot-robbie-snubbed-as-oscar-nominations-announced" target="_blank" rel="noopener">controversial snubs </a>of Margot Robbie for best actress and Greta Gerwig for best director. “Barbie, what a film. What an achievement. To take a plastic doll nobody even liked any more, now Barbie is an icon thanks to Greta Gerwig, who many people believe should be nominated for Best Director,” he began. “I know you are clapping, but you’re the ones who didn’t vote for her, by the way. Don’t act like you had nothing to do with this," he added. While he did compliment Robbie “putting this giant hit together”, his joke about her and co-star Ryan Gosling's appearance fell flat. Despite the awkward joke, Gosling pulled off one of the most memorable moments in Oscars history, as he belted-out an energetic and fabulously pink performance of I’m Just Ken, a Barbie original song, with other Kens including co-star Simu Liu. Gosling began his dazzling performance by serenading co-star Margot Robbie in the audience, who could not hold in her laughter. British-American musician Slash also made a surprise cameo on the electric guitar and everyone in the room could feel the Kenergy. In another unforgettable moment, John Cena caused the audience to erupt with laughter when he slowly emerged from side stage without clothes on, as Kimmel referenced the 1974 Oscars moment when a streaker infamously ran across the stage. “I changed my mind, I don’t want to do the streaker bit anymore,” Cena told Kimmel. “I just don’t feel right about it. This is an elegant event.” Cena then presented the Best Costume Design award while concealing his private parts with a piece of paper. “Costumes... They are so important,” he said, as the audience exploded in laughter. Poor Things won the Best Costume Design award and snagged three other awards including Best Production Design, Best Hair and Makeup, and Emma Stone winning Best Actress. In a more wholesome moment, Messi, a seven-year-old border collie, who starred in Anatomy of A Fall was being a very good boy and could be seen sitting amongst A-list and "clapping" his paws for all the winners. Oppenheimer snagged seven awards, including the Best Picture award, the Best Director award and Cillian Murphy winning his first ever Oscar for Best Actor. “We made a film about the man who created the atomic bomb. For better or worse we’re all living in Oppenheimer’s world, so I would really like to dedicate this to the peace makers everywhere,” Murphy said when he accepted his award. The film landed its first ever honour of the night when Robert Downey Jr also won his first ever Oscar for Best Supporting Actor. Paul Hogan calls Margot Robbie's Oscars snub a "dull tradition"

Paul Hogan has called out The Academy for their "dull tradition” after Margot Robbie and Greta Gerwig were snubbed for an Oscar nomination in February. Despite being the only film directed by a woman to earn more than $1 billion at the box office, Robbie and Gerwig were both <a href="https://www.oversixty.com.au/entertainment/movies/margot-robbie-snubbed-as-oscar-nominations-announced" target="_blank" rel="noopener">snubbed </a>in their respective categories of leading actress and best director during the 96th Academy Awards, which sparked outrage online. Speaking to Sunrise on Friday, the Crocodile Dundee actor revealed his thoughts on why he thinks both the Aussie actor and Barbie director missed out on a nomination. “To see them not nominated, that’s a sort of like ... a dull tradition of ‘if it’s not about pain and suffering, it can’t be very good’. It’s not fair,” Hogan said. He then praised Robbie, saying: “She’s great — not only is she beautiful and smart, she’s a nice kid, too.” During the interview on Sunrise, Hogan also reflected on the time he hosted the Oscars in 1987, and said that it was good fun. “It was fabulous because I was probably the first person ever allowed on live television to do the Oscars without presenting a script or having anything written on the auto-cue,” he said. “They were very nervous but Samuel Goldwyn, who was the producer, said, ‘I’ve seen him on television. Pink has been wowing audiences in Australia during her tour Down Under. But it was the pop star's seven-year-old son Jameson who captured attention during her gig at Marvel Stadium on Saturday night. Jameson made a rare on-stage appearance wearing a Carlton jumper with a number four on the back. The AFL fans that were at the concert noticed that the seven-year-old was supporting the local Aussie football team, and of course the AFL club was all over it. “Hey Pink, we love Jameson’s style 😏💙,” Carlton Football Club's official Instagram account posted, with a clip of the sweet moment. The So What singer surprised a young fan backstage at her Melbourne show Thursday night, with the sweet moment captured on camera. 11-year-old Molly received an unforgettable gift as Pink personally sang Happy Birthday to her and gave her a birthday cake. "What a legend": Michael J Fox receives emotional standing ovation

Michael J Fox, who has Parkinson's disease, made a surprise appearance at the BAFTA Awards in London. The Back to the Future actor came onstage in a wheelchair, but he insisted on standing up at the podium to present the Best Film award. The star-studded audience all rose to their feet and gave the actor a standing ovation. When presenting the award, Fox described cinema as "magic" which can "change your life". "Five films were nominated in this category tonight and all five have something in common. They are the best of what we do," he said. He added that films can bring people together "no matter who you are or where you're from". "There's a reason why they say movies are magic because movies can change your day. "It can change your outlook. Sometimes it can change your life." Fox, who was diagnosed with Parkinson's in the 1990s, rarely makes public appearances. Many fans were pleasantly surprised at his appearance as he presented the night’s biggest award, Best Film, to Oppenheimer.
