Meghan Markle shares rare glimpse of Princess Lilibet

Meghan Markle has shared a rare glimpse of her daughter, Princess Lilibet, as she reintroduces her lifestyle brand under a new name – As Ever.

Following trademark issues with her original brand name, American Riviera Orchard, the Duchess of Sussex officially confirmed the rebranding in a social media post. Accompanying the announcement, a newly launched website prominently features an image of Meghan and Lilibet walking hand-in-hand through a park, seemingly captured by a drone.

This marks the third new image of three-year-old Lilibet shared with the public in just a few months. In December, Prince Harry and Meghan’s private Christmas card included a touching moment of the couple embracing Lilibet and her older brother, Prince Archie, 5. Then, in a tribute video following the passing of Meghan’s beloved rescue Beagle, Guy, fans caught another glimpse of Lilibet in a photo from Meghan’s private album, showing her with Guy in a park. The latest image appears to have been taken on the same day, as Meghan and her daughter are seen wearing similar outfits.

The heartwarming photo aligns with the essence of As Ever, which will offer a variety of products, including Meghan’s homemade jams. In a video accompanying the brand's launch, the Duchess excitedly shared her passion for the venture.

“I think we're all clear at this point that jam is my jam, but there are so many more products that I just love and use in my home, and now it’s time to share them with you,” she said. “I can't wait for you to see it.”

The name As Ever holds special meaning for Meghan’s followers, as it was originally her signature sign-off on her now-defunct lifestyle blog, The Tig. The phrase later appeared on her podcast, Archetypes, and has now been embraced as the identity of her revived business, which coincides with her reactivated Instagram account.

“And if you’ve followed me since 2014 with The Tig, you know I’ve always loved cooking, crafting and gardening,” she explained. “This is what I do, and I haven’t been able to share it with you in the same way for the past few years, but now I can.”

As Ever is expected to reflect Meghan’s personal style and passions, much like her previous work on The Tig, with a focus on home and lifestyle products.

Images: As Ever / Instagram

According to the Herald Sun, police are currently at the scene conducting investigations, and the daycare centre remains under heavy scrutiny as officials gather information.

“Police will prepare a report for the coroner following the death of an infant at a family daycare facility in Skye,” a police statement read.

“An investigation into the circumstances is ongoing but the death is not being treated as suspicious.”

A neighbour reportedly heard screams coming from the property just moments before emergency services arrived. Candid snaps of Scott Morrison unearthed in op shop

A TikTok user has stumbled upon a relic so rare, so historic, that it may just belong in Australia's National Archives – or at least at a particularly niche pub trivia night.

Charli Foo, presumably just looking for a cheap second-hand jacket or a quirky mug, was left stunned upon flicking through a random photo album at a Salvation Army store in Rockdale in Sydney's southwest. Nestled between the dusty board games and a collection of mismatched Tupperware was a scrapbook of memories featuring none other than former prime minister Scott Morrison.

The photo album, a true time capsule of the mid-'90s, documented a young, fresh-faced ScoMo in his tourism executive days, before he ascended to the highest office in the land (and then swiftly to the nearest Bunnings). The first few pages capture his trip to Port Douglas, where he attended a Tourism Task Force director’s meeting – presumably working hard to put Australia on the map while also perfecting his beachside relaxation techniques.

But the real gold lies in the candid moments. There he is, sprawled across a beach lounge at the Sheraton Mirage resort on the Gold Coast, the very image of a man who has had one too many networking beverages.

Later, he’s seen posing in front of a friend’s home in West London, his New Year's Eve 1996 exhaustion hilariously documented by an enthusiastic yet slightly judge-y caption: “Scott very, very, very TIRED after spending the day with Steve Girvan. I think too many Guinnesses.”

Now, in ScoMo’s defence, who among us hasn’t ended up “very, very, very TIRED” after a Guinness-fuelled evening with a mate named Steve? It’s the most Irish thing outside of accidentally calling everyone ‘mate’ in a thick Australian accent while attempting to order a Guinness in Dublin.

And speaking of Ireland, the adventure continues with photos of a sightseeing ScoMo strolling the streets of Dublin on January 8, 1997 – a day of great personal significance. Not for him, mind you, but for his wife Jen, who, as the captions inform us, was back in bed, battling the flu on her birthday. “Scott went sightseeing without Jen. She was sick, sick, sick … in bed.” The triple emphasis on ‘sick’ is either a sign of deep sympathy or someone trying very hard to justify a solo pint or three at the Temple Bar.

Naturally, social media exploded. Comments ranged from sheer disbelief to excitement at the historical significance of the find. One user suggested the album should be donated to a “museum or university”, arguing that “future historians would froth over having this kind of source material”.

And they’re probably right. Imagine, in the year 2125, a PhD student writing their thesis on ‘The Leisure and Leadership of Scott Morrison’ using a second-hand scrapbook as a primary source.

In the meantime, perhaps we should all be combing through our local op shops a little more carefully. Who knows? Next time, someone might find a VHS of Kevin Rudd’s karaoke nights or a collection of Tony Abbott’s forgotten speedo selfies.

History is all around us – sometimes, it’s just hiding between an old Abba vinyl and a set of novelty salt and pepper shakers.

Images: TikTok

Maggie Smith's son reveals her final moments

Dame Maggie Smith's son Toby Stephens has shared details of the last few weeks of his mother's life, and how he wasn't by her side when she passed away.

Toby and his brother Chris Larkin announced the death of their famous mother, revealing she died peacefully in hospital in September 2024 at the age of 89.

Stephens, who is also an actor, has now opened up about Maggie's last weeks, telling The Times that he was filming a movie in New Zealand when his mother died.

Despite her health troubles, Smith encouraged her son to take the role in the horror movie Marama, as he explained, “She was in hospital. She was supposed to be coming out, but the last two years of her life had been a decline: she would get worse, then she would get better, then she would get worse.”

“So I said, ‘Look I’ve got this film,’ and before I could even ask her, she said, ‘Go do it. God, you don’t want to hang round here, I’m fine.’”

However, when Stephens arrived in New Zealand, he was informed by hospital staff that his mother’s condition would not improve, as he said, "But it could take two months, two weeks, they didn’t know."

Soon afterwards he started filming the movie, his mother stopped being able to communicate.

“I’d spent hours and days sitting with her at home and in hospital over the course of two years, and there was nothing I had left unsaid,” Stephens said.

Maggie Smith died on September 27th, the day before Stephens finished filming.

His wife, actress Anna-Louise Plowman, and their three teenage children were all with her at the hospital the day before she died.

Maggie's other son Chris Larkin was at Smith’s bedside for her final moments, as Stephens said, “I was so sad not to be with him.”

“I found that very difficult, but she was no longer aware. And it allowed me some space to actually get my head round what had happened.”

Elsewhere in the interview, Stephens said he had been touched by the response to his mother’s death and the number of people who remembered her for her earlier roles.

He added, “The thing that really got me was: it’s very rare that you have actors that everyone likes."

Mother's shock admission after storming bully's classroom

The mother who made headlines after storming into her daughter's classroom to confront her bully has revealed the extent of the mental torment she was receiving at school.

Speaking to Kyle and Jackie O about the ordeal, the distraught mother said she was at her wits end when her daughter stopped eating and was having suicidal thoughts.

“Our daughter was bullied immensely, probably for over 12 months,” she explained, detailing how alarm bells rang when she looked through her daughter’s bag.

“She stopped eating, I would find mouldy sandwiches in her bag."

“She had come home and she fell into my arms on the floor and said ‘mum, I cannot do this anymore, what is the point of living?’”

View this post on Instagram

A post shared by Kyle and Jackie O (@kyleandjackieo)

The mother also claimed that prior to her classroom tirade, she had gone through “the right channels” but hadn’t received any help

"We did everything. I don’t want to have to bury my child,” the mother said.

“She was crying, she was devastated that this child told her to go and hang herself."

“That is a breaking point for any parent … I went into survival mode, and protective mode. I did let loose, unfortunately was a side, I don’t show very often. But that was a tipping point for that day.”

"She did not die with dignity": Clare Nowland's family share emotional statements

The distraught family of Clare Nowland, who was fatally tasered by a police officer in 2023, have broken down as they shared the devastating impact her death has had on them.

In November last year, Senior Constable Kristian James Samuel White, 34, was found guilty of manslaughter after he discharged his stun gun at the 95-year-old grandmother in a treatment room at Yallambee Lodge aged-care home in the southern NSW town of Cooma during the early hours of May 17th 2023.

After remaining suspended with pay throughout the trial, White was removed from the NSW Police Force days after the verdict was handed down, and is challenging the decision.

White faced the NSW Supreme Court on Friday for a sentencing hearing ahead of the determination of his fate and the future of his career.

Ms Nowland’s eldest son Michael Nowland shared a heartbreaking victim impact statement stating he is still in a state of disbelief following his mother’s tragic death.

“When I was told mum had been tasered by a police officer… I went into a state of shock and asked the question ‘who in their right mind could do this to a frail 95-year-old lady?” he said.

“No one in the (hospital) room could answer this question. How could a human being, let alone a police officer, perform such an inappropriate and inhumane act on a frail old lady who weighed just 45kg?”

Mr Nowland said the more he learned about the incident the more “confused” he felt, as he said, “I will never forgive this officer for tasering and killing my mum."

“Mum did not deserve to have her life end in this manner... she was a caring and dignified lady, but she did not die with dignity.”

Clare Nowland’s daughter Jennifer Nowland said her mother’s death has had a devastating impact on their entire family, including her young grandkids.

She said, “Her three-year-old granddaughter is asking why nanna Clare’s face is on the TV, and if nanna Clare will still get Christmas presents now that she if dead.”

Clare’s other daughter Gemma Murphy glared over at White as she called out his “grotesque” actions and called for justice for all vulnerable Australians.

“I struggle to find solace in a world that feels so unjust…but I seek justice not revenge for mum,” she said.

“She was so much more than just the grandmother that was tasered, she lived her life with purpose and dedication."

“I implore you to reflect on the true cost of this tragedy, my mother’s death should serve as a catalyst for change. We must do better for those who cannot protect themselves."

Aussie mums rally behind woman who confronted daughter's bully

A group of mums have rallied behind a pregnant woman who stormed into her daughter's classroom to confront the 12-year-old who was bullying her.

The mother from Adelaide made headlines after she walked into her daughter's classroom at St Paul's College in Gillies Plains, north-east Adelaide, on Monday, where she launched into an expletive-ridden tirade at her daughter's bully.

The mother told Seven News that she and her husband had pleaded with the school to intervene in her daughter's alleged bullying, but said that fell on deaf ears.

"I don't want my daughter to be another statistic. I don't want to have to bury my child," she said. "She was crying, she was devastated that this child told her to go and hang herself."

After the woman lashed out at her daughter's bully, she issued an apology saying, "What everybody has seen of me is not who I am as a mother or as a person."

However, many thought she had nothing to apologise for, as many women rallied behind her online saying they would have done the same thing if their child was being bullied.

Young mum and personal trainer Jess Dickson stood up for the woman, saying for a mum to "lose her s**** like that" shows that she genuinely believed her daughter's life was at stake.

"The tonality, and the frustration, and the fear, and just the 'f*** you' in her voice it really shows that this was a final straw for this mum," she said in a TikTok video.

"Now in the past year, multiple children have committed suicide because of bullying because no one stands up for them. Teachers and parents might not see it, and the parents of the bullies probably just say, 'Oh no, that's not my kid'."

Many agreed with Ms Dickson's take, saying they would "rather attend court than their child's funeral".

"Team Mumma Bear all the way... Personally, I would have been right there beside her if my kid was in the same school," one mum wrote.

"Soooo on team Mama Bear. I fear I would be a bit more psychotic," another agreed.

‘A virtual seat at the family table’: why older people are among the biggest users of social media

According to the Digital 2024 report, 78.3% of Australians regularly use platforms such as Facebook and Instagram – mainly for keeping in touch with friends and family.

Perhaps surprisingly, a large proportion of these users are older people. For example, the Digital 2024 report also shows that 21.3% of Meta’s ad audience in Australia (on Messenger, Facebook and Instagram) are 55 years or older. This makes it the second largest age group after 25–34 year olds (25.4%).

So what does research say about how social media affects older people’s social lives and wellbeing?

The growing presence of older adults on social media

The digital divide is shrinking as older generations embrace social media. According to data from earlier this year, more than 70% of Australians aged 65 and older use social media to some degree.

Facebook remains the most popular among this demographic, serving as a gateway to reconnect with family and long-lost friends. Beyond reconnecting, our research indicates older adults often use these platforms to share memories, participate in community groups and access news.

This growing trend is driven by both internal and external factors. Research shows many older users are motivated by the desire to stay connected with their families, particularly grandchildren, who often share their lives through social media.

For others, the COVID pandemic accelerated the adoption of digital tools, making social media a lifeline during periods of isolation.

Enhanced connection

A recent study found positive associations between internet use and mental health among older adults in 23 countries.

Social media, in particular, works by:

1. Maintaining family ties. Social media provides older adults with a virtual seat at the family table. By viewing photos, videos and updates, they can remain engaged with their loved ones’ lives, no matter the physical distance. Platforms such as WhatsApp and Facebook Messenger are particularly popular for private family group chats, enabling older adults to exchange messages and share moments in real time.

2. Rekindling old friendships. Platforms such as Facebook have proven effective in reconnecting older adults with long-lost friends. For many, revisiting old relationships provides a sense of nostalgia and belonging. Studies have shown such interactions can bolster feelings of inclusion and reduce loneliness, a significant concern for ageing populations.

3. Building new communities. Social media groups dedicated to specific interests such as gardening, photography or travel offer older adults opportunities to form new connections. These virtual communities are inclusive spaces where members exchange advice, share experiences and foster friendships based on shared hobbies.

Improved well-being

Social media’s ability to foster connection among older adults directly impacts their wellbeing.

Regular online interactions can reduce feelings of loneliness and depression, providing a sense of purpose and belonging.

Research shows active participation, such as posting photos, is associated with a feeling of competence in older users, which is related to well-being. For some, becoming “grandfluencers” on platforms like Instagram or TikTok introduces an unexpected avenue for creative expression and social influence.

Online forums are also gaining traction as a tool for health information and advocacy. Older adults participate in support groups for chronic conditions, share wellness tips and even engage in civic discussions. This demonstrates social media platforms’ broader potential beyond social interaction.

Online challenges

Despite its benefits, social media is not without challenges for older adults.

For some, navigating the complex interface of platforms can be intimidating. Our research shows half of older adults feel anxious about using communication technologies, with older women experiencing more anxiety than older men.

Issues such as privacy concerns, misinformation and online scams can also create barriers to engagement. Additionally, while social media facilitates connection, it cannot replace the depth of face-to-face interactions.

Our research shows those with higher digital literacy are more likely to experience the positive effects of social media because of ongoing “self-socialisation” without having to interact with others, which might undermine learning and confidence. For others, initiatives aimed at improving digital skills among older adults – such as digital mentoring programs – can significantly enhance their confidence and ability to engage safely online.

A bridge and a barrier

Social media can keep older adults connected. But its impact depends on how it is used.

For many, it serves as a vital link to family, friends and new communities, enriching their social lives and reducing isolation. However, to unlock its full potential, addressing barriers such as digital literacy and online safety are crucial.

As the world becomes increasingly digital, empowering older adults to engage meaningfully with social media will ensure they remain not only connected but also active participants in a rapidly evolving social landscape.<!-- Below is The Conversation's page counter tag. Mother breaks silence after confronting daughter's bully

A mother in Adelaide who stormed into her daughter's classroom to confront her bully has explained her intense actions, saying she was at her "wits end".

The mother, who is 20 weeks pregnant, has apologised after she walked into her daughter's classroom at St Paul's College in Gillies Plains, north-east Adelaide, on Monday, where she launched into an expletive-ridden tirade at her daughter's bully.

The mother said she only took aim at the child after exhausting all other proper options to stop the bullying.

"I did everything in my power as a parent, and so did my husband, to make sure our daughter was safe," she said.

View this post on Instagram

A post shared by 7NEWS Adelaide (@7newsadelaide)

"I have stated time and time again to the school that we are begging. “What is wrong with people?”: Baggage claims photo reignites age-old debate

A single photo of an airport’s baggage claim area has kicked off a heated debate about travel etiquette.

A frustrated traveller snapped the image of a crowded luggage carousel at Melbourne Airport and posted it to Reddit, reigniting the age-old debate about one of people’s most annoying habits when going on holiday.

"I returned to Melbourne last night on an international full flight, and the lack of self-awareness from some people was astounding," the post read, accompanied by the photo of a crowded baggage claim carousel.

"Despite the clear signs instructing passengers to stay behind the yellow line at baggage collection, many ignored them, standing right in front of it," she continued.

"As someone who is on the shorter side, I already struggle to see over a 6ft grown man. After taking this photo, two more people stood directly in front of me.”

"At that point, I firmly said in a loud voice, 'Stand behind the yellow line; it's there for a reason'. Thankfully, they moved."

"Seriously, what is wrong with people? There's plenty of space around – why stand right in front of me? Rude AF!"

The post quickly received hundreds of comments, with plenty of people equally baffled by the act and wondering why the selfish act takes over so many people in airports.

"Those two are probably the first to stand up and get their carry-on bags out of the overhead compartments as soon as the wheels touch down," one person commented.

"You really triggered them with this one. Imagine asking people to be considerate," another said.

But others didn't see an issue at all, with one person writing, "I just say 'excuse me' and reach between people to grab my bag. Most people get out of your way."

Bindi Irwin opens up about Steve's secret health battle

Bindi Irwin has opened up about her "whirlwind" life with her late father Steve Irwin before he tragically died.

Speaking to Sarah Grynberg on the A Life of Greatness podcast, the wildlife warrior said her family's life was a "hurricane of adventure and wonder because of dad" before he passed away when she was juts eight years old.

Bindi also candidly revealed that Steve suffered "terrible insomnia" which caused him to wake up in the dead of night.

"He had terrible insomnia. I mean, he just never slept," she said.

"He would wake up at 2am and by the time everyone else's workday has started, he'd put in a full day's work," she said.

Steve Irwin's incredible work ethic was recently discovered in the Australia Zoo offices when staff were clearing out a cupboard before a renovation, which Bindi was quick to vouch for.

"People may not realise that he had such a scientific mind," she said.

"I was looking through his journals and he would just write down, I mean, thousands, it's not an exaggeration, but thousands of pages worth of information and facts and studies and findings."

She said "by the time everyone else's workday has started, he'd put in a full day's work, and he would spend that time because the world is dark".

"He would spend that time researching and studying. And that's where these journals came from."

The wildlife warrior then opened up about her journey with grief, recalling when Steve passed away in 2006.

"I remember when I was little and dad had just died, every adult that I saw would say to me: 'Time heals all wounds.' And I remember thinking, as an eight year old: 'What in the heck does that mean?' Why do people keep telling me like, one day I'll forget about this?" she said.

"It actually made me a little bit scared," Bindi said, adding that she now knew "that information is wrong".

"So firstly, don't say that to an eight-year-old. Time changes your grief. Time changes things and your perspective and everything," she continued.

"But I know firsthand that the grief and the sadness and the feeling of loss from losing dad. That feeling is just a part of me. It's like a scar on your heart."

Tiger Woods reveals sad family tragedy

Tiger Woods announced on Tuesday (Wednesday AEDT) that his mother Kultida Woods had passed away at the age of 81.

"It is with heartfelt sadness that I want to share that my dear mother, Kultida Woods, passed away early this morning," the legendary golfer began his tribute shared on social media.

"My Mum was a force of nature all her own, her spirit was simply undeniable," he continued.

"She was quick with the needle and a laugh. She was my biggest fan, greatest supporter, without her none of my personal achievements would have been possible."

The athlete added: "She was loved by so many, but especially by her two grandchildren, Sam and Charlie," Tiger's children with ex-wife Elin Nordegren, before thanking everyone for their "support, prayers and privacy at this difficult time".

He signed off the message with: "Love you Mum," and a photo of his mum smiling.

View this post on Instagram

A post shared by Tiger Woods (@tigerwoods)

Her cause of death has not been revealed.

Tiger's post was flooded with messages of condolences from stars in the sporting world, including NFL great Tom Brady, and A-List stars including Justin Timberlake and Mark Wahlberg.

"So sorry for your loss. Sam Newman photo sparks immediate backlash

Sam Newman has come under fire for promoting a new episode of his podcast that features two prominent 'neo Nazis' as guests.

The AFL legend, who hosts the You Cannot Be Serious podcast, made headlines after posting a photo of himself with Blair Cottrell and Thomas Sewell to promote the latest episode.

“Today Thomas Sewell and I had a chat with footy icon Sam Newman. Keep an out for the podcast!” Cottrell captioned the photo of the trio.

Cottrell was the first ever Australian to be charged with hate speech after he was convicted in September 2017, and Sewell was listed as one of more than a dozen alleged neo-Nazis following a protest in Adelaide on January 26th.

Cottrell, who is the United Patriots Front leader, was convicted alongside two of his supporters for inciting hatred, contempt and ridicule of Muslims after making a video beheading a dummy in protest of a Bendigo mosque.

Sewell is the Victorian-based leader of the National Socialist Network (NSN), who has railed against “corrupt police” and an “anti-white government” in an online fundraiser which he hopes will allow him to “transition into a full-time role”.

While the episode of Newman's podcast doesn't air until Wednesday, the photo was enough to welcome a wave of scrutiny towards Newman.

CODE Sports’ chief cricket writer Daniel Cherny asked on X if the promotion of two prominent neo-Nazis was “enough to be booted out of the Australian Football Hall of Fame?”

Hundreds of fans agreed, with many taking to social media to ask how the AFL, and Newman's former club the Geelong Cats, would respond to the men being given a platform.

One person wrote: “I’m wondering if consorting with out and proud Nazis is enough of a blot on your copybook to be removed from the AFL Hall of Fame? What do you reckon, AFL? How about you, Geelong Cats?”

Hours after the image of the trio was posted, Newman took to X (formerly Twitter) to issue a statement claiming he had been asked to not publish the episode, which he has denied.

“I interviewed Thomas Sewell and Blair Cottrell … neo-Nazis on You Cannot Be Serious podcast,” Newman said.

“I haven’t posted it yet but I was asked by a journalist because Blair Cottrell posted a picture of him and me and Thomas Sewell on X and I’m associated now with being a neo-Nazi."

“I replied to the journalist who said is it appropriate to put this on and chat about who they are and I said I by no means condone what they’re on but I thought they’re people of interest and I’m going to put it to air."

“If you think I’m a Nazi, so be it. Why don’t you have a look at what they say and what I ask them and you make your mind up.”
