Man convicted of stealing $9m golden toilet

In a heist that sounds more like the fever dream of a mischief-loving magpie than a real-life crime, a British man has been convicted for pilfering an 18-carat golden toilet from Winston Churchill’s birthplace.

Yes, you read that right. A fully functioning, solid gold loo. Some people steal hearts, others steal diamonds – these guys stole a throne fit for, well, a rather ostentatious king.

The golden commode, a conceptual masterpiece titled "America" by Italian artist Maurizio Cattelan, had been proudly displayed at Blenheim Palace just north of Oxford in the UK, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and, up until 2019, a place where even the most refined guests could contemplate the intersection of art and plumbing. But on September 14 of that year, a group of highly motivated men drove two stolen vehicles through the palace’s locked wooden gates, demonstrating a particular lack of subtlety.

Once inside, they broke a window, smashed down a wooden door and ripped the toilet from the wall with what one can only assume was the determination of someone who just realised they were late for work. The entire escapade lasted five minutes.

The golden lavatory, weighing a hefty 98kg and insured for a staggering $US6 million ($AUD9.4 million), is believed to have been melted down and sold off in smaller pieces. We can only hope its new form is as artistically significant as its previous one, though it’s far more likely that some of it is currently jingling around in someone’s pocket as loose change.

At Oxford Crown Court, 39-year-old Michael Jones was found guilty of burglary after his rather ambitious attempt at indoor redecorating. His associate, Fred Doe, 36, was convicted of conspiracy to convert or transfer criminal property – namely, the gold. Meanwhile, 41-year-old Bora Guccuk walked free, having been acquitted of that charge, presumably to pursue other, less toilet-related endeavours.

The ringleader, James Sheen, had already pleaded guilty to burglary, conspiracy and the conversion of the gold, proving that while he may have been skilled at lifting toilets, he wasn’t quite as adept at covering his tracks. Text messages between Sheen and Doe revealed their not-so-cryptic code for the golden loot, referring to it as a “car”.

“I’ll link up with ya, I got something right up your path,” Sheen texted Doe, a message that is oddly poetic for a toilet heist.

Doe’s reply, equally inspired, read, “I can sell that car for you in two seconds … so come and see me tomorrow.” One can only assume the conversation continued with at least one instance of, “Mate, why do you keep calling a car a toilet?”

Shan Saunders of the Crown Prosecution Service called the theft “an audacious raid which had been carefully planned and executed”. Unfortunately for the thieves, their execution left a trail of forensic evidence, CCTV footage and phone data, ensuring their time in the spotlight would be less Ocean’s Eleven and more World’s Dumbest Criminals.

Despite authorities never recovering the gold, Saunders remains confident that the prosecution “has played a part in disrupting a wider crime and money-laundering network”.

For now, the golden throne remains lost to the ages, a cautionary tale for aspiring art thieves and a lingering question for the art world: when does a toilet become more than just a toilet? The answer, it seems, is when it’s worth six million dollars and inspires one of the strangest heists in British history.

Images: Instagram

New details emerge after Gold Coast Hilton Hotel catches fire

New details have emerged after a massive fire erupted at the Hilton Surfers Paradise Hotel on the Gold Coast overnight, prompting the evacuation of hundreds of guests and staff.

The blaze originated on the roof of the hotel's western tower at around 2am, with debris falling onto the second-floor restaurant area, notably affecting establishments like Steampunk Surfers Paradise.

Emergency services responded promptly, with multiple fire crews arriving to combat the flames. The Queensland Fire Department reported that the fire on the pool deck was extinguished by around 2:20am, and the roof fire was under control by 2:40am. Guests were then permitted to return to their rooms at around 3am.

Surfers Paradise resident Joevy Lyn captured dramatic footage of debris tumbling 120m from the roof to the streets below. Legendary Australian jockey Shane Dye, who was staying on the 34th floor of a neighbouring tower, witnessed the fire firsthand and told the Courier Mail: "Everything was on fire and in flames, I couldn't believe it. It was right outside my window." Dye evacuated his building amid initial confusion, saying that hotel staff were initially unaware of the severity of the situation.

Another guest, Leah Nicholson, who was staying at the Hilton with her wife and three-year-old daughter, reported not hearing any alarms but, upon contacting the front desk, was told of the fire. The family then descended 14 flights of stairs to evacuate, only hearing evacuation alarms upon reaching the ground level.

Queensland police assisted in the evacuation, and while the cause of the fire remains under investigation, a woman staying at an apartment across the road reportedly said she believed the Hilton sign had exploded.

“The H on top of the Hilton building just started to catch on fire and then it all started to explode,” the woman told 7NEWS. “Parts of it started to fall which caught … other parts of the building on fire. It was quite intense.”

Images: 7NEWS

Larry Emdur won his first ever Gold Logie on Sunday night following four decades on screen and the Channel 7 co-host has been celebrating since.

Not only did he fulfil his promise to get his butt tattooed live on air on the Morning Show on Monday, a leaked email shows that the celebrations are still in full swing as he reportedly plans to throw a pizza party at the network's office.

“Hi everyone, Larry here. My arse is OK, thanks for asking in the lift, in the foyer, in the carpark, in the studio, in the coffee shop,” Emdur began the email reportedly seen by news.com.au.

“I know this Logie belongs to you all, it’s been a huge team effort and I know, willingly or unwillingly, most of you were roped into the Logies campaign.

“I can only think of one way to thank you all, all at once. PIZZA!!!!! Please leave your lunch at home, I’ve organised a pizza truck.

“Even if you voted for Andy Lee, please grab a pizza,” he concluded.

Just days before the Logies, Emdur told the publication that he was confident he wouldn't win and vowed to get the nominees initials tattooed on his butt live-on air if he did, and that's exactly what he did to the amusement of co-host Kylie Gillies.

The tattoo design featured the shape of a Logie trophy with the other nominees’ initials engraved on it: Asher Keddie, Andy Lee, Sonia Kruger, Tony Armstrong, Robert Irwin and Julia Morris.

“I love this tattoo. This for me will remind me forever of a beautiful night," he said after getting tattooed.

He also took home the Silver Logie for Most Popular Presenter at this year's Logies.

Images: Instagram

Hughesy's damning tirade over the Logies

Dave Hughes has launched into a damning rant live on air over the annual Logie awards, saying he was disappointed to not be invited to this year's ceremony.

Hughesy has hosted and presented the opening monologue of the Logies several times in past years, but even that wasn't enough to score him an invite to the 2024 awards that happened on Sunday.

The comedian and radio and TV regular appeared on The Fox’s Fifi, Fev & Nick on Tuesday, where he launched into a tirade over being snubbed at the event.

“I’ve enjoyed doing the Logies in the past … and look, I wasn’t invited on Sunday night. So, I was just at home, yeah,” Hughes explained.

“So you don’t even get invited if you’re a past host? I thought there’d be a table for you,” host Nick Cody asked.

“I hosted it four times in a row and no invite. No invite! Not even an invite!” responded Hughes, before jokingly shouting: “The amount of losers in that room! I presented for 20 years in a row and didn’t even get an invite.”

Brendan Fevola pointed out, “You’ve got no shows on TV though, why would you get invited?”

“Mate, I pop up on things. I pop up on things! I’m a pop-up guy!” Hughes hit back.

Hughesy's Logies snub comes just two weeks after his radio show was abruptly axed, with breakfast show hosts Hughes, Ed Kavalee and Erin Molan sharing a statement about their sudden departure from 2DayFM.

"We've loved our time together on 2DayFM Breakfast, however, due to some of our families living in different cities we are unable to commit to 2025, so with a heavy heart we are moving aside so 2DayFM can find the team to take them forward in Breakfast," the co-hosts said.

"We are so grateful to Sydney for their support, and to double the number of listeners in three years is something we are immensely proud of, and we will miss each and every one of them."

Image credits: Channel Nine / Instagram

"He's not dead!" Logies tribute to John Farnham divides viewers

A tribute to John Farnham at the 2024 TV Week Logies has divided audiences, with some saying the performance was a beautiful homage, while others believe it seemed like a eulogy for someone who isn't dead.

On Sunday night, Guy Sebastian and Jessica Mauboy took to the Logies stage for the performance that had everyone on their feet.

They were introduced by David Campbell, who recalled some of Farnham's impressive accolades.

"He sold over six million albums, had a career that spanned 60 years and is one of the best live performers the world has ever seen," Campbell said.

"We want to acknowledge John's wife Jill, his sons, Robert and James, and his close friend, Glenn Wheatley's wife Gaynor and their son, Tim Wheatley. But, most importantly tonight, it's about celebrating you, John. You are an Aussie icon. You are the voice, mate," he added.

Sebastian and Mauboy then belted out You're The Voice with the help of Farnham's own band, as the screens behind them played a video of Farnham singing the song himself.

View this post on Instagram

A post shared by Tommy 🧜🏾‍♂️🤴🏾 (@imtommyschroeter)

While the performance was met with a round of applause from the Logies audience, others online found the tribute in poor taste, with many commenting on X that while John has been battling cancer, he hasn't died and the on stage accolades made it appear the star had passed.

"I get John had a doco and had some health issues recently but he hasn't passed away. Also this would be better at the arias you know the music awards of Australia," wrote one viewer on X.

"RIP John Farnham didn't know he passed," joked another, with someone else saying, "OMG FARNSY IS STILL ALIVE. This is not a eulogy."

"Look. I get Farnsy is a national treasure, but he's not dead. Can we please stop acting like he's dead?" someone else posted.

Others were happy with the tribute, with one person writing, "I think it's better to celebrate our amazingly talented icons whilst they're still alive!! We love you John."

"Jessica Mauboy you are the voice!!! That was perfection," wrote another with one more chiming in, "It’s fitting to have Jess and Guy sing a John Farnham tribute."

Larry Emdur takes home Gold Logie in star-studded awards

The 2024 TV Week Logies kicked off on Sunday night to celebrate the world of Australian TV and entertainment, with actors and presenters alike dressing in their best frocks and heading to Sydney's The Star.

For the second year in a row, hosting the show was Sam Pang, known for his hilarious comedy on Have You Been Paying Attention? on Channel Ten, as he took to the stage for a memorable opening monologue.

Pang used the Logies stage, which was being broadcast by Channel Seven, to take a swipe at the struggling network, roasting Seven for their spate of recent scandals, such as the Bruce Lehrmann-Spotlight scandal

"Firstly, Channel 7, well, I'm just letting you all know I'm going to say whatever I want tonight," he said as he kicked things off.

"I stand before you safe in the knowledge that whatever I say, this network will defend me in court, and with their impeccable record in defamation cases over the last 12 months I reckon I'll be fine."

Amid a string of jobs being cut at Seven, Sam then joked that he wasn't getting paid by the network for his hosting gig and said they would instead be paying his rent.

"Full disclosure - I'm not getting paid by Channel Seven tonight. Instead, for the next 12 months, they're paying my rent," he quipped. "Which is handy as they'll know what address to send the Thai masseuse to."

Pang then took aim at Network Ten, his usual employer, to call out their difficult year of cancelled shows.

"It's been a tough 12 months for Channel Ten, although they did bring back Deal Or No Deal hosted by Grant Denyer, a show where contestants get to open a briefcase and try to guess how much money the network is losing each week," he said.

As the awards ceremony kicked off, one young talent stole the hearts of the nation, as 15-year-old Felix Cameron, who recently starred in Netflix's drama Boy Swallows Universe based on the novel by Trent Dalton, took home two awards: the Graham Kennedy Award for Most Popular New Talent and Best Lead Actor in a Drama.
<blockquote class="instagram-media" style="background: #FFF; Larry Emdur's crazy pledge ahead of Logies

Channel Seven presenter Larry Emdur is up for his first Gold Logie and he's so sure he won't win that he's made a wild pledge if he does end up being crowned.

“I’m so confident I won’t win, I’ll happily get all the nominees name initials tattooed on my arse on the Morning Show live on Monday [if I do],” he told news.com.au.

Despite the presenter hosting popular TV shows for over 30 years, including The Price Is Right, Wheel of Fortune, Hey Hey It’s Saturday, this is his first Logie nomination ever.

Before his hosting hobs on TV, Emdur was a cadet journalist at Seven, where he earned the title of ‘Australia’s youngest ever national newsreader’ when he presented the overnight news at just 19.

While the title sounds pretty cool, the host revealed the truth behind how he got the role.

“There’s a bit of a twist to that... it’s been slightly misrepresented over the years, but it was an overnight shift that no one wanted to do,” he said.

“For me, I wanted to surf all day, so I was like, ‘OK, I’ll do the overnight shift’. And that gave me the title back then as the youngest national newsreader.”

He landed his first job as a paperboy for Fairfax, and while it was "the crappiest early entry job", Emdur said he initially "wasn’t in there to be part of the media. I really just wanted to surf all day.”

It wasn't until a journo gave him a tip-off suggesting he rewrite an existing article about crime in Bondi and offer it to a community newspaper when things started to kick off for his career.

He wrote his very first article 'The Bondi Crime Plague by Larry Emdur’ on a typewriter and sent it to the Bondi Spectator’s office.

“They were only doing bowling reports, commercials, adverts and stuff. So they weren’t big on news. And I just wrote a note saying, ‘I’m interested in getting into the media. Dear editor, could you let me know what you think of this?’,” he said.

“That was a Monday, and Mum came into my room on a Thursday morning, woke me up and said, ‘Is this you?’ And [there it was] on page 3."

“So, I was a reporter now. I was basically stealing stories, but I was a journalist. I thought, ‘This is unbelievable’.”

He then interned for Seven during the Christmas period and got his early break producing a story that made it to air with the help of late New Zealand musician Ricky May.

“I put that down to Ricky May. He just picked me out his crowd and went, ‘Follow me. I’ll make a story with you.’”

This was a pivotal moment in his career before he was eventually promoted to national news reading, and is now a popular figure on Aussie TV.

Despite this, the Morning Show co-host still stands by his Logie prediction.

“I feel confident that I won’t be getting a tattoo on my arse on the Morning Show,” he said.

Images: Instagram

Aussie dad's life-changing $100,000 find

After seven years of hunting for lost items with his metal detector, one Vi dad has struck gold - unearthing a nugget worth about $100,000.

Luke Phillips, who shares metal-detecting videos on his YouTube channel Dig It Detecting, recorded the moment found the nugget in the Goldfields region.

Phillip initially found tiny flecks of gold in the 150-year-old miner's hole dating back to the Victorian gold rush. It was when he decided to run his detector over a moss-covered log that he heard a faint signal.

He rolled the log over and thought he might actually be digging for a horseshoe before repeatedly exclaiming “oh my god” as he realises it was something much bigger.

“This is probably the deepest target I’ve ever dug for gold,” Phillips said in the video.

“Holy smokes! Mate, we didn’t dig that far for no reason,” he says to his friend, Andrew, as they unearthed the nugget.

“Holy smokes, if we didn’t get a gram before we’ve certainly got it now.

“Holy f***, look at it!”

Phillips then joked his friend would not need his glasses to see the nugget.

“I’ve never witnessed or seen or experienced something quite like this,” Phillips said. “I didn’t expect to see gold. That is so cool.”

Phillips continued to excavate a larger hole, and couldn't hide how astonished he was.

“I never thought I would see this day where I was going to unearth a nugget,” he said.

“It’s like an egg ... that’s like a freaking egg.”

He took the nugget home where he cleaned it and weighed it at 868.4g.

He has reportedly sold the nugget since finding it back in May, and although the sale price was confidential, it was likely to have been sold for a six-figure-price.

"It was an exhilarating feeling — I knew it was a once-in-a-lifetime moment. That moment in time will be with me forever," Phillips told 9News.

The discovery and sale of the gold nugget has been "life-changing" for Phillips after he had to stop working full time due to health issues a few years ago.

He said that the nugget will help out his family in a "big way".

"It's not something I'm going to retire on, of course, but it will pay some bills off and we can put a bit on the mortgage, or buy a car," he said.

Images: YouTube

Australia to introduce new "gold standard" in ID verification

The Australian government is set to introduce a new "gold standard" in ID verification that will protect valuable information from potential data leaks.

Government Services Minister Bill Shorten will is set to use his address to the National Press Club on Tuesday to announce the national Trust Exchange, or TEx program, which is currently at the “proof-of-concept stage”, and is slated to be rolled out at the end of the year.

The program will connect to a user's MyGov Wallet or digital ID without the need to hand over any documents, allowing businesses to verify your identity using a government-issued QR code.

The QR codes could be used for job applications, hotel bookings, or entry into a pub or RSL clubs, eliminating the need to hand over physical driver's licenses or passports.

The technology will store information such as someone’s date-of-birth, address, citizenship, visa status, qualifications, occupational licences or working with children check, and other information already held by the government.

"Services Australia is partnering with other government systems to develop TEx which would give Australians the ability to verify their identity and credentials based on official information already held by the Australian Government," Shorten is set to say in his National Press Club speech.

"That means sharing only the personal information to get the job done, and in some cases, not handing over any personal information at all."

“You control what details are exchanged. You then have in your wallet a record of sharing, say, your passport and trade certificate with your employer.”

Shorten will say codes "digitally shake hands with your myGov wallet," leaving you with a record in your account of what you shared, and who you shared it with.

"All that has been exchanged has been a digital 'thumbs up' from the Government that you are who you say you are," Shorten will say.

"All or nothing": Arisa Trew shatters records to become Australia's youngest Olympic Gold Medallist

Arisa Trew from the Gold Coast has made history by becoming Australia's youngest-ever medallist, clinching gold in the women's park skateboarding final at the Paris 2024 Olympics.

At just 14 years and 90 days old, Trew has broken a 68-year-old record, previously held by swimmer Sandra Morgan from the Melbourne 1956 Olympics.

Born on May 12, 2010, Trew is too young to vote, drink or even stay at the Olympic village. However, these limitations did not hinder her from delivering an extraordinary performance when it mattered most.

Heading into her third and final run, Trew was in the bronze medal position and poised for a podium finish. However, her most impressive performance was yet to come. "My coach, Trev, he was just like, 'you've just got to go all out," she told Nine News after being crowned champion. "And I was just like, 'yep, who cares? Just all or nothing.'"

With a remarkable score of 93.18 in her final run, Trew soared into the top spot. She then faced a tense wait as the higher-qualified skaters attempted to surpass her score. Despite the pressure, Trew showed sportsmanship by cheering on her competitors.

After clinching the gold, the young athlete said, “I got told by a few people that I’m Australia’s youngest gold medallist, which is, like, pretty insane and really cool, because that’s, like, who I’m representing and, like, it’s just amazing.

“It’s just, like, super cool that I have won the gold medal because it has been like a dream. I’m just, like, so excited.”

This victory makes Trew Australia's youngest-ever medallist. The previous record had stood for 68 years since Sandra Morgan won gold in the women's 4x100m freestyle relay at the age of 14 years and 184 days. Trew, at 14 years and 90 days, has also become the youngest athlete to medal at Paris 2024 so far.

Images: Nine News

Jessica Fox reacts to her sister's gold medal victory

The Fox sisters are now both Olympic gold medallists after Noemie Fox claimed her victory in the women's kayak cross.

Noemie, who is the younger sister of three-time Olympic champion Jessica Fox, beat out silver medallist Angèle Hug from France, and the UK's Kimberley Woods in bronze.

Following Noemie's win, Jess and their mother Myriam quickly jumped into the water to celebrate her victory at bottom of the slalom course.

Jess then spoke candidly to Nine about her sister's win, hailing the "fairytale ending" to an almost unbelievably perfect Fox family Olympics.

"I'm just full of emotion," Jess said, voice trembling, just moments after climbing out of the water at the Vaires-sur-Marne Nautical Stadium.

"And I'm so proud of her, and I'm just – I'm drenched, I jumped into the water. There's so much emotion in this moment. It's amazing.

"I was just screaming. We were both screaming," Jess said. "She was like 'what is going on? What the hell' but she did it."

"She is just so – I'm so happy for her, so happy for her."

There were but three kayak gold medals up for grabs for women at Paris 2024 and the sisters are taking the whole set back with them to Sydney.

As well as coaching her daughters to success, Myriam has an Olympic bronze medal to her name and dad Richard, who briefly bailed on his broadcast duties to celebrate with his two girls, won 10 world championships and finished fourth in the K1 at Barcelona 1992.

"It means that poor dad is the only one without an Olympic medal," Jess joked.

"What a moment for our family. What a moment for these games. You know, for the whole team, we've come away with three gold medals, and that's so special."

Gold medallist sleeps in Paris park to protest "disappointing" Olympic village conditions

A gold medallist has been spotted sleeping in a Paris park in protest of the conditions in the Olympic village.

Italian swimmer Thomas Ceccon was captured sleeping atop a white towel in a park located inside the Olympic village by Saudi rower Husein Alireza.

Alireza posted the photo to Instagram with the caption, "Rest today, conquer tomorrow."

The Italian swimmer, who won gold in the 100m backstroke, had already complained publicly about the accommodations in the Olympic Village, after he failed to reach the 200m backstroke final on Wednesday.

Since the commencement of the Paris Games, many athletes have spoken out about the conditions in the Olympic village, saying the beds are uncomfortable, the rooms are poorly air conditioned and the food is poor quality.

“There is no air-conditioning in the village, it’s hot, the food is bad,” Ceccon said, according to The Sun.

“Many athletes move for this reason: it’s not an alibi or an excuse, it’s the reality of what perhaps not everybody knows."

“I’m disappointed that I didn’t make the final, but I was too tired. It’s hard to sleep both at night and in the afternoon. Here, I really struggle between the heat and the noise.”

Andy Anson, the chief of the British Olympic Association, also voiced concerns about how the quality of the village is affecting athletes, telling The Times of London, “There are not enough of certain foods: eggs, chicken, certain carbohydrates.”

“And then there is the quality of the food, with raw meat being served to athletes.”

A number of athletes, including the entire US women’s tennis team (with the exception of Coco Gauff) have left the village and searched for alternate accommodation for the duration of the Games.

Gold medallist breaks down in tears over her late father's note

An Olympic gold medallist has broken down in tears as she recalled an emotional and poignant exchange she had with her father before he died of cancer.

Lola Anderson claimed the gold medal for Team Great Britain in rowing, beating The Netherlands by just 0.15 seconds in the women’s quadruple sculls.

In her victory interview with the BBC, Lola recalled a note her father Don had given her months before his death in 2019.

Before his death, Lola's father asked her to retrieve a safety deposit box that contained an old diary entry that Lola wrote when she was just 14 years old.

In it, she wrote about becoming an Olympic rowing champion after seeing Helen Glover win gold at London 2012.

The note read: “My name is Lola Anderson and I think it would be my biggest dream in life to go to the Olympics and represent Team GB in rowing and, if possible, win a gold medal.”

Lola soon threw the note in the bin as she started to doubt her dream, but unbeknownst to her, her father fished it out of the garbage and kept it, giving it back to her before he died.

When asked about the note after the win, she told the BBC, “I’d forgotten about it obviously. A couple years ago my dad reminded me."

“I know he’d be so, so proud. I’m just thinking a lot about him right now, it’s really lovely.”

Speaking about the note to the Guardian before the Olympics, Anderson said her father, who introduced her to the sport, believed in her when she didn’t.

“I kinda thought that was a really cocky, arrogant thing to have written. Back then, on a good day I wasn’t capsizing. I ripped the page out and threw it in the bin,” she said.

“It reflects to me how much he cared, invested and believed in me and my siblings, even when we couldn’t see it. There was nothing to show I had any talent when I first started rowing but he kept the note and chose to believe.”

"No disrespect": Home and Away star's swipe at Robert Irwin's Logie nomination

Home and Away veteran Lynne McGranger has taken a savage swipe at Robert Irwin, who has earned his first Gold Logie nomination.

The young wildlife warrior is among a group of Aussie TV old-hands in the running for the 2024 Gold Logie, with the 20-year-old being the youngest male ever nominated for the award.

Also battling it out for the Gold is Larry Emdur, Andy Lee, Asher Keddie, Julia Morris, Sonia Kruger, and ABC's Tony Armstrong.

The nomination comes hot on the heels of Irwin's TV debut as co-host of I'm A Celebrity... Get Me out of Here! alongside Julia Morris, as he took over from Dr Chris Brown for the 2024 season.

After Robert's nomination was announced, despite how well the new season of I'm A Celeb was received, many wondered how someone with so little TV experience could find himself in the running for the award.

One of those skeptics was Home and Away actress Lynne McGranger, who made a cheeky swipe towards Robert when commenting in support of her Channel Seven colleague Larry Emdur who is up for the award for the first time.

"I'm sorry but ol'mate Irwin has been on telly for a bloody minute!! No disrespect intended. #Lazforgold 🫶🏾🥇😍" she wrote on Larry's Instagram post, with over 300 people liking the comment.

The comment came after Larry shared a screenshot of a message he was sent, with someone congratulating him on the nomination but telling him they'd be voting for Irwin.

Lynne's rogue comment was met with mainly support from people.

"You said what everyone is thinking," one person said. "I agree 💯 #Lazforgold all the way! No disrespect intended for Irwin … Larry has my vote 🙌 he truly deserves to win 🥇," another commented.

"You have my first vote ever today, only for you Larry, for the laughter that lights up my life!" another dedicated fan said.

Lynne's comments weren't the first time someone called out Robert's nomination, after sister Bindi Irwin was quick to tease on Instagram.

Bindi took to social media to share a cheeky throwback post of her clutching her own Silver Logie in 2008, for Most Popular New Female Talent for her work in Bindi the Jungle Girl.

“Hey Australia, vote for my awesome brother so he can catch up to me 16 years later …” she captioned the post.

"At least mine's gold," Robert teased, to which Bindi replied "You haven't won it yet..." alongside a laughing emoji.
