Michelle Bridges' candid admission on being a single mum

Michelle Bridges has spoken candidly about the challenges of being a single parent to her seven-year-old son Axel.

The former Biggest Loser trainer described her son, who she shared with ex-partner and fellow celebrity trainer Steve Willis, as a "confident" little boy.

While Bridges was doing radio interviews about a new project, Axel joined in on the fun.

The 52-year-old told 9Honey, "He's just like a little man now, we have good conversations and he's got a really good sense of humour."

"He went into that radio station this morning, just jumped on the microphone, started singing and was answering the phone."

Bridges said she has purposefully organised her everyday life to be present in her young son's life.

"I've kind of engineered my life this way to be able to take him to school and pick him up pretty much every single day," she says.

She went on to say her and Axel are "two peas in a pod", while admitting it has been difficult to raise Axel as a single parent.

"We're a team and we're very close, extremely close. And yes, it can be challenging and you do need to sometimes rely on other people to help you out," she explains.

"I don't have family in Sydney but I have basically my best friend who's like my brother, and they are super tight."

"It does take a bit of a village if you've got one great if you haven't you sometimes need to really find it."

"So traumatic": Michelle Bridges grilled over Biggest Loser's impact

Michelle Bridges has been slammed by a body positivity activist for the negative impact The Biggest Loser's strict rules around weight loss had on viewers.

Appearing on The Project for a discussion around health and body image, Bridges went head-to-head with activist April Helene-Horton, who said she was unsure if she wanted to appear in the segment, given the “traumatic” presence The Biggest Loser was in her life.

The weight loss program, which aired on Channel Ten from 2006 and ran for 11 seasons, featured Bridges as one of the several tough-talking trainers, motivating overweight contestants to intensively diet and exercise in a contest to lose the most weight in the fastest time for a big cash prize.

During the discussion on The Project, Bridges and The Biggest Loser were put to the test to discuss what it means to be healthy.

View this post on Instagram

A post shared by The Project (@theprojecttv)

The Project host Sarah Harris asked Helene-Horton who was to blame “for the idea that larger bodies are bad”, as she listed “mainstream media, fashion, doctors who don‘t want to see fat patients, social media” among the main culprits.

“Would you put the fitness industry in that same category?” Bridges asked.

“Yeah I would. And I’ll be really honest and say, I was somewhat nervous coming here today to see you, because I would genuinely say that the show The Biggest Loser was one of the most traumatic things that ever happened to me,” Helene-Horton replied.

“Yeah, I hear you. I absolutely hear you. Going on a show like that back in the day, I really had to dig deep and question my morals about why I’m in the health and fitness industry,” responded Bridges.

Helene-Horton said that, having spoken to Bridges, she’d soon realised they had some things in common.

“You, like me, are somebody who struggled against the idea that you need to be perfect. But the edit [on The Biggest Loser] still made me feel like someone who had the same values as you … would make me feel shame.”

Bridges went on to admit that The Biggest Loser wouldn't "work" today, due to the liberation of the body positivity movement and the change in definition of what it means to be healthy.

“When I look back on it, 17 years ago, it was a totally a different culture back then. I don’t think that show would work today. In fact, I know it wouldn’t,” she said.

Real estate’s ‘Biggest Loser’ Michelle Bridges fails to sell home

Fitness entrepreneur Michelle Bridges has failed to sell her $6.5m Kangaloon home, amid plans to go back to Sydney.

The former Biggest Loser trainer initially bought the five-bedroom home in 2017 for $2.7m for her family when she outbid chef Luke Mangan.

The 4.1 hectare estate was listed last month with initial reports suggesting that the home should be sold for $7m. However, the private price guidance had offered it to buyers for $6.5m

Now, The Agency real estate company has revised the price guide back down to $5m, after they failed to secure a buyer for the original price.

The property, which is built on a hill offers stunning views of the surrounding countryside, with floor to ceiling windows in the main living room.

The main bedroom has an ensuite bathroom and walk-in wardrobe, but the interior is not the only thing that’s worth boasting about.

The luxurious estate has an in-ground pool, a tennis court and landscaped gardens which feature established trees and vegetable gardens designed by Michael Bligh.

Other features include an outdoor dining area, an entertainment pavilion with a small fire pit, and a separate guest house complete with a loft bedroom and modern bathroom.

Image: Realestate.com.au, Getty

Dazzling looks, memorable moments, and award sweeps: The best of the 2023 Oscars

Actors, producers, and creative souls from all over arrived at Los Angeles’ Dolby Theatre to strut their sparkle down the 2023 Oscars’ champagne carpet.

The event, otherwise known as Hollywood’s night of nights, was always set to break records and draw attention from film fanatics across the globe - hopefully for all the right reasons - with the likes of Everything Everywhere All at Once, Elvis, The Banshees of Inisherin, and Top Gun: Maverick up for Best Picture.

In fact, Everything Everywhere All at Once was nominated for 11 awards by itself, with All Quiet on the Western Front and The Banshees of Inisherin following right behind with an astounding nine nominations each.

Everything Everywhere All at Once snagged a staggering seven awards in the end - most notably, the cast and crew secured the top honour of Best Picture for all of their hard work.

In the Hollywood comeback of the decade, Best Actor went to Brendan Fraser for his part in The Whale, and Best Actress to the multi-talented Michelle Yeoh for her performance in Everything Everywhere All at Once, who took the opportunity to remind women everywhere that “you are never past your prime”. Michelle also made history with her win as both the first Best Actress nominee and winner to openly identify as Asian.

Meanwhile, their supporting award counterparts went to Everything Everywhere All at Once’s Ke Huy Quan and Jamie Lee Curtis.

There wasn’t a dry eye in the house when Ke Huy Quan accepted his award - and made history as the first Vietnam-born actor to ever do so. He began by thanking his 84-year-old mother, who was watching from the comfort of home, saying “my journey started on a boat. I spent a year in a refugee camp, and somehow I ended up here on Hollywood’s biggest stage.

“They say stories like this only happen in the movies. I can’t believe it’s happening to me - this is the American dream.”

Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert snagged Best Director for Everything Everywhere All at Once. And for those with a great appreciation for the songs that make moments come to life, MM Keeravaani and Chandrabose were awarded Best Song for the catchy hit ‘Naatu Naatu’ in RRR.

The ceremony also saw special guest appearances from The Banshees of Inisherin’s Jenny the Donkey, a fuzzy bear presenter, and appearances from a whole host of stars - as well as an emotional tribute to those Hollywood had lost over the past year, with John Travolta’s emotional words for the late Olivia Newton-John, to whom he remains “hopelessly devoted”.

But, of course, the Oscars aren’t only about who goes home with the coveted golden statues, and the stars paraded down the champagne carpet - formerly the red carpet - in typical fashion in a shower of shoulder pads, sparkle, and swagger.

Check out 2023’s best dressed and top moments below, and the full list of winners here.

Images: Getty

Anthony Albanese accused of bullying female MP

Anthony Albanese has been accused of bullying by Federal MP Michelle Landry after she "left Question Time in tears".

The Prime Minister was called out by Ms Landry who said she was left “intimidated, bullied and treated with disrespect”.

Ms Landry was questioning Mr Albanese if the government was going to delay $800m in Commonwealth funding to construct the Rockhampton Ring Rd in her electorate.

The prime minister began his response but instead confused Yeppen Floodplain with Yeppoon before opposition leader, Peter Dutton interjected to correct him.

The parliament got rowdy with Mr Albanese explaining that he was speaking about the Yeppen Floodplain with footage showing Ms Landry laughing.

Mr Albanese then yelled at the other side of parliament saying, “Queenslander…says it all. I know about Queensland roads because the Bruce Hwy under John Howard’s government put $1.3 billion in, we put $6.7 billion in in half the time.

“Including the Yeppen Floodplain, including planning the money for the Rockhampton Ring Rd.

“But when the government changed in 2013 it went on the backburner. So you were in government for almost a decade and you haven’t dug a hole on the project.”

Mr Albanese continued his response but after Question Time, Ms Landry accused the Prime Minister of bullying her after claiming she had to leave parliament.

“I did not expect the response I received from him and his colleagues. I felt intimidated and bullied,” Ms Landry said in a statement.

“Unfortunately, this is not the first time the Prime Minister has treated me with disrespect.”

Speaker of the House Milton Dick however refuted Ms Landry’s comments after reviewing footage saying she was not disrespected and did not leave parliament.

How on earth is this answer bullying, as the PM is now being accused of. Of the footage I was able to review, she seemed engaged in the response from the Prime Minister.”

Ms Landry confirmed that Mr Albanese called to apologise but she demanded an apology in the House of Representatives.

“While I appreciate the gesture of calling me personally, it does not ignore the fact that he screamed, pointed, and yelled at me on a national stage,” she said.

“I am no shrinking violet, and I have been in politics for a long time. I respectfully ask the Prime Minister to publicly apologise to me in the House of Representatives.”

Images: Twitter

Michelle Pfeiffer shares rare photo with daughter

Michelle Pfeiffer is spending quality time with her daughter, Claudia Rose.

The 63-year-old Scarface actress shared a rare photo with the 28-year-old, before heading out "on the town".

"Out on the town with my girl," Pfeiffer captioned her post.

The star adopted Claudia when she was a newborn, just months before marrying producer David E. Kelly.

Pfeiffer has been notoriously private about her family life and kept her kids out of the public eye.

In an interview with Good Housekeeping in 2007, she praised her daughter

"Boy, there's nothing typical about my girl," she said at the time. "She's a force to be reckoned with, and an amazing human being. I wanted her to be a really independent, outspoken young woman, and I sure got that!"

View this post on Instagram

A post shared by Michelle Pfeiffer (@michellepfeifferofficial)

"She's also very creative and inquisitive," Pfeiffer added. And what's exciting about this age is that she's really coming into her own. She's everything I'd hoped she would be."

In the same interview, the actress also opened up about meeting Kelly as she was adopting Claudia.

"The adoption process was already in motion when [Kelly] and I met. So when she came, he and I had only been together for about two months. So we had this child with us right away, and most people don't have that. But I really got to see him in a situation that certainly would separate the boys from the men. Obviously, he really rose to the occasion. And, you know, we were both adults. It's not like we were kids anymore, and we were both at the age where we were ready to start a family."

Pfeiffer also shares son John Henry Kelley, 26, with Kelly.

Murder suspect posted about teenage girl’s death day before his arrest

The man accused of killing a teenage girl in the central coast of NSW more than 21 years ago left a comment on a post about her death just a day before his arrest.

Craig Henry Brumsby, who now lives in Sydney, was arrested on Tuesday evening for the murder of teenager Michelle Bright.

Police say he was so shocked by the arrest that he needed medical care for heart palpitations.

“He was actually taken back to the police station and had heart palpitations and had to get medically treated for a couple of hours,” Detective Superintendent Danny Doherty said.

Michelle was just 17 when she was last seen alive on February 27, 1999, when a friend dropped her off on Herbert Street in Gulgong after a birthday party.

Three days later, her deceased body was found in long grass on the side of Barneys Reef Road.

Rumsby was arrested for Bright’s murder a day after a reward put out for information to solve Bright’s murder was doubled to a whopping $1 million.

He posted on the NSW Police Facebook page on Monday: “It’s so sad they haven’t caught her killer... Michelle was like a sister to me.”

“I feel sorry for the family.”

The 53-year-old appeared in Mudgee Local Court on Wednesday and did not apply for bail.

He will return to court next Wednesday.

Det Supt Doherty says Rumsby had been a person of interest for several years and responses to the plea reaffirmed existing evidence against him.

Police are yet to finalise the investigation; however, it is unlikely the reward will be paid.

Michelle’s mother Loraine chose not to speak to the media on Wednesday, explaining on Monday she’s endured 21 years of “indescribable pain”.

Det Supt Doherty said the charges against Rumsby had also shocked Loraine Bright.

The touching gift from Obama that moved the Queen to tears

Queen Elizabeth was moved to tears by a touching gift from then-President Barack Obama and his wife Michelle, a former staffer has revealed.

According to Capricia Penavic Marshall, the then chief of protocol for the United States, the 94-year-old British monarch was overwhelmed when presented with a leather-bound collection of memorabilia about her late father, King George VI.

The heartwarming gift included invitations and notes from King George’s final visit to America in 1939 and was given by the Obamas at a lunch in 2011.

“We wanted to make sure that what we were furthering this special relationship with the UK and particularly with Her Majesty,” Capricia told People magazine.

“President and Mrs Obama were so, so very fond of her. In doing our research, we learned that [Queen Elizabeth] had a cherished relationship with her father, and she collected anything and everything that she could about him...

“When she walked over and she's flipping and looking through the pages, I'm looking at her and I'm like, ‘Oh, goodness, I hope that she likes it.’

“And I want to say that I saw a little glisten of a tear in her eye after she paged through it a bit. She looked to the president said, ‘Thank you so very much for this.’”

The former president and first lady also gave the Queen a green floral brooch – made of 14-karat yellow gold, diamonds and moss agate – which is said the couple chose themselves from Washington D.C.’s Tiny Jewel Box store.

“I'd like to say that she was proud to wear a piece of a presidential gift and was displaying the unity between the two nations,” Capricia said.

“I think that she has the capacity to always lift the message up right now and to create those stronger bounds. But she herself is the only one who will really know.”

The brooch – which has been named “the American State Visit Brooch” – was worn by the Queen when President Donald Trump visited the UK in 2018.
