Daughter of former All Black charged over alleged hit and run death

The daughter of former New Zealand All Black has been charged over an alleged hit and run that left a 65-year-old man dead in Auckland.

Helena Jade Cribb, the daughter of Ron Cribb, was charged earlier this year after Jason Collins' body was found by a member of the public on O'Brien Rd, Lucas Heights in the early hours of December 7.

The 22-year-old previously had a name suppression, which has now lapsed.

Earlier this year, Detective Sergeant Ben Bergin said the driver allegedly involved had been identified not long after Collins' death.

"A thorough investigation has been underway into the tragic circumstances by the Waitematā CIB and we have reached a point where charges have been filed," Bergin said.

Collins has been remembered as a devoted father, husband and friend.

"The tragic loss of Jason has left an unfillable void in our hearts," a statement on behalf of his family read.

"...his absence is a constant ache, a relentless reminder of what we've lost.

"Taken from us too soon, his departure is a profound and senseless blow that we struggle to comprehend.

"Each day is a battle against the overwhelming emptiness left in his wake.

"We ask for privacy at this time as we continue to grieve."

The 22-year-old reportedly faces a charge of operating a vehicle carelessly, causing death while under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

She is set to reappear in court in September.

Image: NZ Police

Former Home and Away star admits brutal attack on woman

A former Home and Away star has admitted to bashing a woman during a suspected mental health crisis.

Orpheus Pledger, 31, faced Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on Monday via a video link from custody at Ravenhall Correctional Centre.

Police prosecutor Fionnuala Kennedy said Pledger attacked the victim repeatedly over a three-month period at a home in Northcote, Melbourne, with one of the attacks captured on a motion-capture camera on March 25.

Footage from the camera showed Pledger grabbing the woman's hair, pulling her to the ground and stomping on her head.

The court was told that the woman called triple zero at 1.35am to raise concerns Pledger was suffering a “mental health episode", before the line disconnected right after she said “he’s coming.”

Officers arrived 15 minutes later and found the woman lying on the floor of her home unable to get up, with Pledger nowhere to be seen.

The woman was taken to hospital, where doctors noted that she had bruising on her forehead, a laceration to her cheek, bruising to her right hand and marks on her face and ear.

The court was told that he was arrested the following day, but he was unable to be interviewed because of his "erratic behaviour".

He was released in April for a court-ordered medical assessment due to concerns for his mental health, but he fled from the hospital on April 23 after a six hour wait.

He then returned to the woman's home to collect his things and when asked to leave, he told her: “why, I haven’t done anything”.

Police issued a public appeal before he was arrested two days later.

Defence lawyer Jasper MacCuspie noted that during that time, his client was unable to get the mental health assessment he required, due to limited resources, saying that it was a widespread issue within the health system.

The court heard that there is currently a shortage of ambulance and police resources, which Magistrate Justin Foster labelled as “outrageous”.

““The only reason I bailed him at the time was because there was nothing available for him to be   assessed in a prison setting. And there is no money in the hospital to have these important things assessed,” he said.

“There’s a shortage of everything at the moment, it’s outrageous.”

MacCuspie also said that his client had begun acting at the age of eight or nine but fell into the wrong crowd, and his drug use escalated in his late 20s when he was declined a role on US TV series The 100.

“At the very last minute that fell through. It was a destabilising event,” MacCuspie said.

“He aspires towards acting in future, but accepts by virtue of matter that’s a somewhat challenging prospect,” he added.

Pledger will be assessed for a community corrections order, but has pleaded guilty to four assault-related charges, and will be sentenced on Wednesday.

Images: news.com.au/ Channel Seven

“Grief eats you away”: Prince Harry's candid interview about losing his mother

Prince Harry has spoken candidly about his ongoing struggles with grief following the death of his mother, the late Princess Diana, when he was just 12 years old.

Upon his brief return to the UK, the Duke of Sussex opened up in a new interview as part of his role as global ambassador for Armed Forces charity Scotty’s Little Soldiers, who work to support children who have lost parents in the military, admitting that “grief eats you away”.

Harry detailed how difficult it was losing his mother at such a young age, admitting he spent nearly two decades “not thinking” about her death and was forced to eventually get help after years of “total chaos”.

He added that learning how to celebrate a late loved one is difficult for a child, as it made them “sad”.

“But realising if I do talk about it, and I’m celebrating their life, then things become easier,” he said.

Harry went on, “You convince yourself that the person you’ve lost wants you, or you need to be sad for as long as possible to prove to them that they are missed
Especially when every defence mechanism in your mind, nervous system and everything else is saying ‘do not go there.”

"But then there’s this realisation of, no, they must want me to be happy”.

The 39-year-old royal shared how, after decades of silent mourning, he learned suppressing grief was “in fact not” the best form of coping with loss.

“It can be for a period of time,” he went on to say.

“But
if you suppress this for too long, you can’t suppress it forever it’s not sustainable and it will east away at you inside."

“Once realising that if I do talk about it and I’m celebrating their life then actually things become easier.”

"Felt like a criminal": Mother and disabled son "kicked out" of Pink concert

A distraught mother has taken to social media to recall the moment her and her seven-year-old son, who has Down syndrome, were asked to leave a concert venue.

Vanessa Vasey, 48, spent over $1,000 to take her son Jesse to see Pink in London during her UK stadium tour, but when the pair arrived at the venue, things took a turn.

Jesse struggled to stay still in his seat and was soon surrounded by "six security guards" who ordered the disabled boy to sit down, otherwise they would have to leave.

She said she tried to explain her son’s condition to the guards but they ended up being “escorted from the premises” just as Pink took to the stage.

On Facebook, Vasey wrote in detail about what happened, saying her son had been “robbed” of a special experience.

“Music is his life and Pink is one of his absolute favourites,” she wrote.

“We successfully saw her perform at BST Hyde Park last year and were thrilled to learn of her return again this year.”

Vasey said she purchased more expensive “hospitality tickets” allowing people to move between bars and food outlets during the night “so that Jesse wouldn’t be pressured into remaining in one seat all night, as he gets overwhelmed in busy environments and finds it hard to sit still.”

“We spent some time in the bar leading up to the main act, and Jesse was having a wonderful time, until about 45 minutes before Pink was due to come on, they suddenly shut all the blinds, obstructing us from seeing anything,” she wrote.

“I tried to consult with the hospitality managers over this, and explained Jesse’s needs, but they wouldn’t budge on it. So not wanting Jesse to stare at a blind all night, we attempted to go into the seating zone."

“We couldn’t get him to sit in his seat, but he was happy dancing and singing at the front railings, and even interacting with some of the other guests."

“Doing no harm to anyone, or obstructing anyone’s view. This seemed OK for about half an hour or so. Then ... just as Pink dropped from the sky in her opening number, we had six security guards come into the zone and ask us to leave or sit in our seats.”

Vasey said the security guards were “abrupt, intimidating and unpleasant”, as they "tried to force us to take Jesse to a sensory room which was soundproof, and watch Pink on a screen.”

“Something we could do at home, robbing us of the whole experience, as if my son was some sort of inconvenience, and better off shut in a room out of sight.”

When Vasey complained to venue staff, she claims that more security guards appeared and they had no choice but to leave.

“We were escorted out of the building like criminals and saw no more of the Pink show. Jesse was utterly devastated, and they showed absolutely zero care or understanding."

“Shame on you Tottenham Stadium,” she concluded. “My poor boy deserved so much better than this!”

After UK media picked up Vasey's story, Tottenham Stadium released a statement explaining their actions.

“Following further investigation, we can confirm that Ms Vasey was offered assistance by our Safeguarding and Welfare teams throughout the night to provide Jesse with a comfortable viewing experience, including access to our dedicated Sensory Room,” the statement read.

“The offers of assistance were declined by Ms Vasey and the party chose to leave the event.”

Vasey was soon set upon by online trolls who condemned her choice to take Jesse to the concert in the first place, to which she issues a lengthy statement about inclusivity and not singling people out for their disabilities.

“Why do we take them [to events]? Because, as parents, we have the same dreams and aspirations for our children as any other parent,” she wrote.

“We have the same desires to see our children’s faces light up, as any other parent would. Our children are exposed to the same world as other children, and they enjoy the same things."

“They have the same likes and desires. The only thing that’s different is their needs, their abilities and their way of accessing their dreams."

“Why should these things deny them of fulfilling these dreams and passions? This is meant to be a world of inclusion. So let’s start including!"

“That means adapting, understanding, supporting and most importantly; changing the way we deliver these privileges so that they are privileges for all of us, and not just some of us.”

John Farnham steps out at son's wedding for first time since jaw surgery

Beloved Aussie rock legend John Farnham exuded pride and joy as he stepped out in style at his son Robert's wedding on the weekend. After enduring extensive surgery due to oral cancer, Farnham, now cancer-free, appeared in high spirits at the intimate wedding of his oldest son and his new wife, Melissa.

The 74-year-old icon looked remarkably well and largely unchanged since his challenging surgery in August 2022. In the heartwarming photos shared on Instagram, John posed alongside his son, both beaming with happiness. John looked dapper in a black suit with a bronze tie and matching pocket square, while Rob opted for a stylish white tux with black accents.

The joyous occasion was beautifully captured in a series of family photos, including John's wife, Jill, and other close family members. Fans flooded the comments with heartfelt messages, celebrating the happy family and John's remarkable recovery. "Such a beautiful father and son pic," one fan wrote, while another added, "Congratulations to you both. It's so nice to see your Dad, he looks fantastic! Love to you all."

The bride, Melissa, looked stunning in an off-the-shoulder ivory gown, posing for romantic photos with her new husband against the lush backdrop of their wedding venue. Rob's touching caption on Instagram encapsulated the joy of the day: "Shared the happiest moment with my favourite person in the universe and she said I do. Melissa, my life is forever better that you’re apart of it. You looked radiant, beautiful and elegant. I can’t wait to see what the future has in store for us and I’m truly honoured to have you by my side as my wife for life❀."

The couple had announced their engagement in November 2022, with Rob expressing his excitement about their future together: "My best friend and love of my life said yes to marrying me. I can't wait to spend the rest of my life with you."

John Farnham's presence at the wedding was particularly special, as it marked a year since his successful battle against cancer. In August 2023, Farnham revealed he was cancer-free, a triumph after numerous surgeries and a challenging recovery process. In a heartfelt statement, he shared his gratitude: "It's been a year since my first surgery and to be honest, I've lost count as to how many other procedures there have been since then. But, I'm home now and I'm a very grateful and happy man. I'm sitting here in my living room lapping up the attention from my beautiful wife, Jill, my boys Rob and James, and my mini Schnauzer, Edmund."

Throughout his recovery, John's family provided updates on his progress. His son Robert shared that his father was "doing fantastic" after a 12-hour surgery for throat cancer and was even dancing a little and walking his dog regularly. "He's really, really happy. He's doing really good, he's super positive," Robert said in an interview.

While it is unlikely that John will perform again after his extensive surgery, the love and joy he shared at his son's wedding are a beautiful reminder of life's precious moments.

Images: Instagram

AFL great's son in induced coma after mystery brain infection

Geelong great Peter Riccardi has revealed his son, Osca, was briefly put on life support after suffering a mystery infection on the brain.

Speaking on the podcast Beyond The Boundary, the former AFL player revealed that his son became suddenly ill a fortnight ago.

“A couple of Sundays ago (Osca) came home, been out with a few of his mates, he’d been to the beach, went out for dinner, went out to play 10-pin bowling ... and said he was going to bed,” Peter Riccardi said.

“Then halfway through the night he was up, he was vomiting, he was feeling a bit crook ... we just thought he was run down.

“But come lunchtime, he couldn’t talk, he could hardly walk.”

He added that they were extremely lucky his wife Mel worked from home that day and rushed Osca straight to hospital, where they found some "swelling" on his brain following a scan.

Doctors also found that he had a sinus and ear infection and glandular fever all “rolled into one”.

“Whether the swim did something with his ears and went into his brain, I’m not 100 per cent sure, yet,” Riccardi said.

“They put him an induced coma for three days. He was in ICU (Intensive Care Unit) for four days.

“But he’s back home now recovering ... you wouldn’t know that two weeks ago, watching him on life support, and seeing him now, it’s amazing what they do in there.”

The podcast hosts then asked how scary the situation was for Riccardi and his wife, and he responded: “It was, yeah ... obviously they have got to prepare you for the worst (outcome)."

“That was probably the worst thing to hear, because we didn’t know how he was going to come out of it.

“But again, like I said, if Mel had gone to work that day, he wouldn’t be here today.

“We’re pretty lucky, we’re pretty lucky.

“It must have been a mother’s intuition or mother’s instinct to stay at home that day.”

Image: Facebook/ Geelong Cats

"Love harder": Perth brothers farewelled at emotional memorial service

Six weeks after they were shot dead while on a surfing trip to Mexico, Perth brothers Jake and Callum Robinson have been farewelled in a heart-wrenching private memorial on Saturday.

The memorial took place in Perth’s Sacred Heart College, where the brothers attended high school, and hundreds gathered at the college to remember the brothers.

It was also live-streamed for those who could not fit into the theatre at the college, with Callum's friends also watching on from America, where he spent the last 14 years of his life.

In an emotional tribute, their parents, Debra and Martin Robinson, thanked loved ones abroad and in Australia for their endless support, and talked about how special their sons were.

"We're not here to dwell on the where or the how or try to understand the why of their passing but instead to say goodbye to two young men and hopefully start the healing process for everyone," Mr Robinson said.

“It’s hard to describe the feeling of when your adult children come and visit you, until it’s gone,” Mrs Robinson added.

“They loved life and they followed their dreams.

“They were intelligent, respectful men with so much more to offer the world.”

The cover of a memorial brochure had the phrase: “LIVE BIGGER, SHINE BRIGHTER, LOVE HARDER”.

With shaky voices, the grieving parents described how their two sons exuded “pure love”.

"We loved that Jake was curious, kind and happy and never judgemental. Callum always made a conscious decision to wake up and be positive every day. He saw so much fun in life," Mrs Robinson said.

"We look around the room today at everyone and it gives us strength, so thank you.

"We have cried many tears and we will cry many more
We miss you beyond description, Callum and Jakie boy, please shine on us."

Childhood friends Adam Moore and Simon Moore also shared anecdotes about their friendships with the brothers.

Adam recalled how the two brothers always excelled "at any sport imaginable" and always had so much energy, and Simon spoke of their surfing adventures through the years.

The brothers and their American friend Jack Carter Rhoad were last seen alive on April 27. They were allegedly robbed for their car tyres and murdered while they were camping in the Baja California coastline.

Three people have been arrested over their suspected involvement in the robbery.

Image: 7News

"No fan of mine": Kyle Sandilands shocked on air by brutal John Blackman audio

Kyle Sandilands was paying tribute to his “childhood hero” Hey Hey it's Saturday star John Blackman on-air Thursday morning, when he was interrupted by an audio of the late star trashing him in a recent interview.

Speaking on the Kyle and Jackie O Show, the shock jock said he was upset when he learned of Blackman's passing, but before he was able to elaborate on how the radio star was his childhood hero, his manager Bruno Bouchet interjected and told him about Blackman's brutal review.

In a May interview on the You Cannot Be Serious podcast, Blackman said: “Why are we giving these two publicity hungry, oxygen thieves, waste of oxygen. The man [Sandilands] is a no talent. He doesn’t have a voice for radio, by the way.”

Footage of Sandilands listening to the audio for the first time was shared by KIIS FM on their Instagram stories, and both he and Henderson were shocked.

“I’m very confused,” Sandilands said, before coming to the conclusion that Blackman wasn’t a fan of him because he’s not as polished as “old school” media veterans.

“What’s happened here is old school media, TV, radio, newspapers. They’re all fake,” he said.

“They pretend everything’s wonderful. You never really know the real person."

He then elaborated and said that he and Henderson try to keep it real with their listeners.

“We don’t pretend it’s a wonderful day. Even though it’s p*ssing with rain and snowing or whatever. We don’t pretend. We say, ‘Oh, what a s**t day.’ We’re just a different breed.

“Oh well, that’s one hero of mine that’s dead. No fan of mine.”

Images: Instagram

A mother has shared her frustration after she was denied entry into a live music venue due to the fact that she had her baby with her.

Jasmine and her partner were excited to see one of their favourite artists, Angie McMahon, at Melbourne's iconic concert venue The Forum, and made the decision to bring their five-month-old baby with them.

The baby was strapped to the mum's chest in a carrier and was wearing headphones, but jasmine was soon confronted by venue staff that she was not allowed entry into the venue, and instead offered to return without their child for another night.

The singer herself later called in to the 3AW radio show, where Jasmine had recalled the incident, to say that she would not have minded having a baby in the audience.

View this post on Instagram

A post shared by 3AW Melbourne (@3aw693)

“I’m so sad. I’m sorry that it’s happened. We’ve had newborns at some of the other shows on the tour and it’s been so special,” McMahon said.

“It’s like a really lovely moment to know that their parents have taken them to come see us, and that’s one of their first gigs. It’s so special for us to know that that’s happening so I wouldn’t have minded at all.”

McMahon said she thinks mums, particularly new mums, are typically doing it tough and they should be able to have a night out and enjoy it with their baby.

The Forum’s parent company The Marriner Group said the event was a “licensed general admission standing” and that they were respectful of the situation, but stood by their decision.

“The promoter has offered for the customer to come back to attend the show on Friday instead, but without the baby, and hope that is an agreeable solution for everyone.,” they said in a statement.

Charlise Mutten's mother flees court in tears

Charlise Mutten's mother has broken down and fled the courtroom in tears after being accused of murdering her nine-year-old daughter.

Kallista Mutten was grilled by her ex-fiancé Justin Stein's lawyer on Tuesday about her excessive methamphetamine use, including while pregnant with his child.

The grilling began when Carolyn Davenport SC accused her by saying, "You shot and killed your daughter", to which Ms Mutten replied, "Are you serious?"

She then burst into tears, crying out "I didn't even know where she was shot" before Ms Davenport added that Mr Stein "had seen you deliver the second shot".

After being excused from the witness box, Ms Mutten ran out of the courtroom in tears, while the jury were temporarily sent out.

The dramatic moment came after Ms Mutten admitted taking methamphetamine even when her daughter came to visit.

Ms Mutten was being cross-examined on day 12 of Stein's trial, who has been charged with Charlise's murder in January 2022.

The 40-year-old admitted to having psychotic episodes while on using ice and had continued to take the drug despite her Charlise's visit during the summer school holidays in 2022.

She denied she and Charlise were not getting along in the days before her death, or that she had been told to leave the Stein's Mount Wilson property, and instead left of her own accord.

"I chose to leave because I didn't want to be there any more. Yeah, I was very hormonal, I was pregnant. Yeah, I was using, yeah. My emotions were very strong at the time," she said.

Stein, 33, has pleaded not guilty to murdering Charlise, but has admitted to disposing the schoolgirl's body.

Image credits: Daily Mail / Facebook / Nine News

"The most gorgeous family": Tributes flow for slain mother and daughter

Police are continuing their investigation into the tragic deaths of Jennifer Petelczyc and her daughter Gretel, who were shot dead in their own home by a 63-year-old man.

The mother and daughter were killed on Friday, when the man was allegedly searching for his ex-partner before he fatally shot the pair in their home at Floreat, north-west of the Perth CBD.

Since their tragic deaths, loved ones and members of the community have come out in droves to pay their respects.

"They're the most gorgeous family and it's absolutely just heartbreaking that this has happened," said family friend Imogen Harrris.

She added the slain mum, 59, and her 18-year-old daughter were the "kindest, most light-hearted, beautiful people".

Neighbour Claire Andrews remembered them as people who "always gave back to the community".

Jennifer Petelczyc was known to be a caring and generous member of the community, as she installed a $5,000 defibrillator to be installed outside her home for local people to use in a health emergency.

According to police, the man who allegedly killed the mother and daughter, Mark Bombara, was a licensed firearms owner who possessed at least 13 guns and took multiple firearms to the Floreat home as he searched for his ex-wife, who detectives say was a friend of Jennifer.

It is understood that Bombara’s wife left him weeks ago and had been staying with Ms Petelczyc.

Officers confirmed the man's former partner was not at the home but the two women were tragically killed.

WA's Premier Roger Cook has described the murders as "chilling and horrific", saying, "This is a circumstance in which a woman has sought refuge from a friend. It would appear that as a result of that, that friend and her daughter have come to harm."

"They're innocent people ... simply doing what we'd all want someone to do when we're facing difficult circumstances. By every measure it looks senseless, chilling and absolutely horrific."

"I think we need to take the opportunity today ... to reflect on it and think about how we can all continue to make the world a safer place."

E-scooter hit and run victim embraced by Magpies club

In a heartwarming display of community and sportsmanship, the Collingwood AFL club has come together to support a cherished fan, 81-year-old Jessie Hatch, after a distressing e-scooter incident following the Collingwood-Carlton game two weeks ago.

Jessie, a lifelong devotee of the Magpies, was leaving the Melbourne Cricket Ground when she was struck by an e-scooter in what she described from the hospital afterwards as "such a cowardly thing".

In a touching twist, it was a member of the rival Carlton cheer squad who first rushed to her aid. Reflecting on the incident, Jessie recounted to 9News, "Apparently I passed out and they couldn't get a pulse or a heartbeat and I came around finally with someone screaming my name and telling me to wake up and also my son was so distressed."

Jessie's son, Greg, expressed his confidence in his mother’s resilience. "She was born in Carlton - she won't admit that - but she was raised in Collingwood . . . So they build them a bit different when they're raised in Collingwood. Tougher than any of us."

Despite her injuries, Jessie’s spirit remains unbroken. Dressed proudly in her Magpies jumper, she recently attended a training session where she was warmly welcomed and embraced by the players.

The club’s support has been a balm for Jessie. "This is just amazing," she beamed. True to her unwavering dedication, she declared, "I'm going to the game on Saturday. That won't keep me away."

In an inspiring gesture of goodwill, Jessie also plans to set aside traditional rivalries to visit Princes Park and thank the Blues fan who helped her.

Meanwhile, police have alleged that the e-scooter rider intentionally knocked Jessie down. To that end, a 46-year-old man remains in custody, with his next court appearance scheduled for May 22.

Images: Nine News | Seven News

Mother of the groom slammed for unacceptable wedding outfit

A mother of the groom has been slammed online for wearing a white dress to her son’s wedding: committing a major wedding faux pas.

The family photo, which has gone viral, shows the mother wearing “a dress even whiter than the bride’s”, complete with a sheet cape train, a cream hat and corsage.

The mum's behaviour was criticised by thousands in a wedding-shaming Facebook group, while others defended the woman, saying she may have had permission for the look beforehand.

“Really makes you wonder what in god's name happened with all these mothers-in-law to make them act like their son's wedding is her own wedding,” one person commented.

Many claimed the older woman's dress was a clear attempt to upstage the bride, with many saying her outfit was simply unacceptable.

“Makes me vomit when I see mothers like this,” a woman said.

A second person added, “The cape, the gown, the fascinator... oh, my god. It would have been over the top, but fine if in any other colour. I hope to be as patient as this bride one day.”

“I cannot imagine doing this to any woman who decides to marry my son. Like, hon, I of all people know how difficult he can be to live with, may the old gods and the new bless you for your sacrifice,” another joked.

“I'm 99 percent sure this wasn't bride-approved as it's white and the bride's dress is ever so slightly off-white. And the bride looks perfect!” a fourth added.

A few even claimed someone should have “accidentally” spilled a glass of red wine on the mother's dress.

“No way she should have made it to the pictures without someone spilling [wine]. That poor girl,” a woman said.

"I killed them": Major twist in slain Aussie brothers case

The girlfriend of the man who allegedly killed Perth brothers Callum and Jake Robinson has reportedly "flipped" on her partner, becoming the star witness in the case.

Ari Gisel GarcĂa Cota was arrested earlier this week, along with her partner JesĂșs Gerardo Garcia Cota and his brother Cristian Alejandro Garcia, after the bodies of the Robinson brothers and their friend were found on Saturday in a desolate section of Santo Tomas in the Baja California region.

According to Mexico police, the three men were killed as a result of a failed robbery, after locals attempted to steal the tyres from their pick-up truck.

The bodies of the three men were recovered from a 15-metre deep well, with each man having fatal gun shot wounds to the head.

In a major twist to the case, prosecutors revealed to court on Wednesday that Ari Gisel GarcĂa Cota had become a key witness in the case after turning on the "ringleader" of the crime.

“She has flipped on the ringleader and the evidence she’s provided to the prosecution will lead this case going forward,” Nine News correspondent Alison Piotrowski, who was in the courtroom, told 2GB’s Ben Fordham on Thursday.

“What’s alleged is that JesĂșs Gerardo was driving her car that night when he went out to that remote campsite. The prosecution is saying what we’ve been talking about for the last couple of days has potentially happened, that the two Aussies and their American friend were ambushed.”

Prosecutors allege JesĂșs Gerardo “killed them, took their tyres, put the tyres on her car and drove back”.

When he went back to their house, the court heard he allegedly told Ari Gisel, “I f**ked up three gringos (English-speaking foreigner).”

“She said to him, ‘What do you mean by that?’ And he told her, ‘I killed them’, and then showed her the vehicle with Jake, Callum and Jack’s tyres on her car,” Piotrowski said.

“Ari was arrested later that day, she had fled to her mother’s house to get away from him. When the officers arrested her they said, ‘You have the right to remain silent’, and she said, ‘I don’t want to be silent, I want to tell you what I know. I’m a victim of domestic violence, I want to protect my four-year-old so let me help you with this case.’ So she has spectacularly turned on him and will now be crucial in this case moving forward.”

Piotrowski added that the stunning revelation explained why Mexican officials “have been able to put him behind bars so quickly and also how they found the bodies”.

“This conversation that he had with his girlfriend is pretty damning,” she said.

So far only JesĂșs Gerardo Garcia Cota has been charged in connection with the deaths of the three men, and only with forced kidnapping, while Ari Gisel GarcĂa Cota and Cristian Alejandro Garcia have only been charged with drug possession.

Piotrowski said the kidnapping charges may not be upgraded to murder until the next court hearing, although the judge has more questions about how the three men were killed.

“The judge did say that he can’t understand how one sole person could have done this, essentially kidnap and kill three men and take their tyres, it seems like too much,” she said.

“He suggested that the prosecution needed to look into more suspects, that they needed to broaden their investigation because it couldn’t have been done by one man alone.”

Image credits: Instagram / State Commission of the Penitentiary System of Baja California

“Such a cowardly thing”: Police hunt after e-scooter hit-and-run on 81-year-old woman

Victoria Police have released an image of a man wanted in connection to an alleged attack on at 81-year-old outside the Melbourne Cricket Ground after an AFL game last Friday.

Jessie Hatch, 81, was walking towards Jolimont Railway Station around 11pm when she was confronted by a man on an e-scooter, who told her to “move off the footpath”.

Hatch then "explained that the footpath is not for vehicles and walked around him”, prompting the man to ride off, but he quickly turned around before allegedly hitting her from behind, causing her to fall to the ground and lose consciousness.

According to Victoria Police, the rider allegedly did not stop to assist Hatch, and was unsuccessfully chased by a passerby.

He was last seen heading west from the Swan Street Bridge.

“She walked between 7-10m away and this guy’s doubled back and then smashed her from behind,” Jessie's son Ken told 7News.

“Apparently she stopped breathing for 20 seconds or so, that’s what we heard.”

Jessie is still in hospital recovering with five stitches in her hand and undergoing more tests on her spine to see if there is permanent damage.

“Such a cowardly thing, I don’t know what would have gone into his head to do that,” Jessie told 7News from her hospital bed.

“Why would somebody do that? He should be ashamed of himself.”

Police are investigating the incident, with Ken calling on the alleged perpetrator to come forward.

“You made a mistake, you did something wrong, come forward,” he added.

The man allegedly involved in the incident was of average height and had fair skin and a stocky build, with straight blonde/brown hair and grey/blue eyes.

He was wearing thick-lensed glasses and a red jacket made of a shiny, waterproof material.

Jessie’s story quickly gained attention around the AFL world, and Collingwood legend Peter Daicos was among those to offer his support.

“I wanted to reach out, I heard about the incident after the game,” he said.

“I hope you’re feeling better and I’m really looking forward to hearing that you’re back at the Collingwood games.

“All the best from not just myself, but the boys and importantly the Collingwood Football Club. All our love, get well soon.”

That is why we have to run the genetic tests," Baja California Attorney General Maria Elena Andrade RamĂrez told 9News.

Police have also said that shell casings were found at the scene.

Two men and one woman have been arrested in connection with the attempted robbery, after they were found in possession of methamphetamines and one of the missing men's phones.

RamĂrez also said evidence found along with the abandoned tents was linked to the three people being questioned about the missing foreigners.

Local TV network Milenio reported that the suspects appeared to have stolen the surfers’ truck and some of its parts were found in another truck belonging to one of the suspects.

"A working team (of investigators) is at the site where they were last seen, where tents and other evidence was found that could be linked to these three people we have under investigation," RamĂrez said on Thursday.

"There is a lot of important information that we can't make public."

A fourth body was also found deeper down the well, but Ramirez confirmed that it had no connection to the investigation.

Image: Nine
