Teenager dies after being flung from ride

The last words said by a 14-year-old boy who died before falling from a drop tower amusement park ride have been revealed.

Tyre Sampson was enjoying a night out with his family and friends at ICON Park in Orlando, Florida on Thursday when he decided to ride the Orlando Free Fall.

Described as the world’s tallest freestanding drop tower at 131 metres, the ride spins around the tower when it’s reached the top before dropping at 120km/h.

Tyre hopped onto the ride with his two friends who sat next to him, but he felt something was wrong.

“When the ride took off, that’s when he was feeling uncomfortable. He was like ‘this thing is moving,’ you know what I’m saying. And he was like ‘what’s going on?’” Tyre’s father Yarnell Sampson told WOFL-TV.

Tyre began to freak out and asked his friends to deliver a heartbreaking message to his parents.

“And he was explaining to his friends, next to him, ‘I don’t know man, if I don’t make it down safely, can you please tell my mamma and daddy that I love them.

“For him to say something like that, he must have felt something.”

Horrific footage of the incident was shared to social media, showing a body being flung off the ride just before the ride stopped its descent.

Mr Sampson said most of the rides rejected his son because of his height and weight, however the Free Fall staff said they could take him.

Tyre stood at almost 2m tall and weighed 154kg, which made his father question why his son was allowed on the ride.

"This one particular ride said, ‘We can take you, come on! Get on!’ No one else allowed him to get on the ride, so I’m wondering what happened between now and then that made them say, 'Come on, get this ride’.

"This should never happen to anyone else's child ever again, and if I have anything to do with this, it will not happen ever again."

Emergency calls made when Tyre fell out of the ride were released describing the horrific situation.

“The thing (Orlando Free Fall) went down to drop and, like, when they got closer to the bottom, when it hit the break, the guy fell right out of the seat,” one caller told 911, Click Orlando reported.

“He’s not responsive. It looks like his arms are broken and his legs,” another called said.

“He’s face down, there’s blood everywhere. He’s not breathing. I’ve checked his pulse, there’s no pulse.”

Investigations into how Tyre died are continuing with ICON Park releasing a statement offering their condolences to the family.

"A tragedy occurred last night at the Orlando FreeFall and our hearts are heavy with sadness.

"The owner of the attraction is fully cooperating with authorities and ICON Park is doing everything we can to assist.

"The Orlando FreeFall will be closed pending a full investigation. Other businesses at ICON Park are scheduled to be open during their normal business hours."

OverSixty has chosen not to share the video due to its graphic nature and out of respect to the family.

Image: Twitter

Orlando Bloom has close encounter with Great White Shark

Image: Instagram

Orlando Bloom just went paddle boarding with a Great White Shark.

The 44-year-old actor shared a video of his encounter with the world’s largest known predatory fish, in which he was seen paddling through the water in Malibu while a shadowy outline lurked below.

“Paddle boarding with great whites" the Hollywood star captioned the video on Instagram. “When fear becomes your friend and @malibuartist captures the moment."

Accompanying Bloom is photographer Carlos Gauna, aka The Malibu Artist, who seemingly captured the footage via a drone hovering above them in the ocean.

“In this clip, I filmed @orlandobrown next to a nicely sized juvenile white shark” Gauna wrote he posted the same video to his Instagram account.

“The opportunity to share some of my knowledge with Orlando, knowledge I’ve gained from the many scientists I’ve been fortunate enough to talk to and work with, was a highlight of my day. In the end, the real stars of the sea are the sharks. But having Legolas himself nearby. That’s pretty cool!."

While Bloom got praise and love from both fans and famous faces such as 2chainz, his fiancée Karty Perry couldn’t help but troll him on Instagram.

“Next time go out and put some peanut butter on babe," Katy commented while referencing the myth about sharks liking peanut butter.

He may not be an expert in sharks like his photographer friend, but Bloom is somewhat a paddle-boarding pro. Back in 2016, the actor made headlines when he was photographed paddle boarding nude while holidaying in Italy.

He later told Howard Stern that he’s “not that big” and because ‘”things are expanded on cameras with a big optical lens. It is an optical illusion."

Comfort dogs sent to assist victims of Orlando massacre

A group of eleven golden retrievers are on their way to Orlando to help comfort victims of the horrific shooting on the weekend, which killed 50 (including gunman Omar Mateen) and injured 53.

The therapy dogs are part of the Lutheran Church Charities’ K-9 Comfort Dogs program and have come together from 7 states in the US to offer their services to the survivors.

President of the Lutheran Church Charities Tim Hetzner believes the pooches will be a huge help in the aftermath of such a trauma. “They’re like a furry counsel,” he tells the Huffington Post. “They’re not judgmental and they’re good listeners, which is good because talking is an important part of healing process. It allows people to process what happened.”

After starting the program in 2008, the dogs have been an essential source of comfort in tragedies such as the 2012 Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting and the Boston Marathon bombing of 2013. There are now more than 100 dogs in the organisation. “We go where we’re invited and we don’t charge the people we serve,” Hetzner adds.

It’s no mean feat to become a comfort dog, however. Each pup has to undergo between 12 and 14 months of professional training from the age of just 8 weeks old. “Our dogs have to be able to relate with all age groups and stay calm in all circumstances,” Hetzner explains. He believes golden retrievers are the perfect breed for the job as they’re naturally loving and gentle. “Also, because of their fur, they leave a little of themselves with everyone they meet.”

Tell us in the comments below, how has your four-legged friend comforted you in a time of need?

Related links:

Orlando shooting survivor pens powerful open letter to gunman

The world comes together after the Orlando shooting horror

Dog dental assistant helps calm patients

Orlando shooting survivor pens powerful open letter to gunman

As the world continues to grapple with the Orlando shooting, the worst mass shooting in modern US history, a survivor has written a powerful open letter to the shooter.

Alejandro Francisco, 21, was at Pulse nightclub in Orlando, Florida, when Omar Mateen opened fire, killing 49 people and injuring more than 50 others.

"Saturday night was Latin night, and it was a party vibe because of the Puerto Rican Day Parade. It was a hot night, and the club was filled with life and love and dancing and — until you arrived — pure joy," wrote Francisco on XOJane.

"I’ve been going to the club for a few years now, and it’s a wonderful place to let loose and really be yourself in Orlando.”

Francisco and his friends narrowly escaped the attack, leaving the club moments before the gunshots started. He mourned and grieved all the lives lost in the attack, labelling Mateen's actions as "the worst attack – on love – on U.S. soil."

“These men and women were strangers to you. All of them had one precious gift, one saving grace that you could never, ever have. That much is clear. I know you had a child and a wife and a father and a mother, but you did not have what they had. You never could have. What happened never could have happened if you did," he wrote.

The letter continues: “But Omar, you failed. You tried to massacre the very one thing that you can never destroy in our community. Ever. You cannot take away our love. It is more powerful than anything else that exists in the world.

"Omar, we are stronger than your hate. We always will be."

Francisco then names all the victims of the shooting. Although they did not survive, Francisco says, “Love did. In fact, it just grew stronger.”

Read Francisco's full letter here.

Related links:

The world comes together after the Orlando shooting horror

Queen Elizabeth and her corgis help PTSD sufferer

The Queen’s 10 favourite songs right now
