Hughesy spills the beans on major shows set to be axed

Dave Hughes has shared his prediction that The Masked Singer is die to be axed from Network Ten's lineup this year as the network continues to battle dwindling ratings.

The host of the show made the admission on his radio show on Tuesday, saying he hadn't been given any updates on when filming was due to commence.

“We’ve been waiting on a production schedule. That production schedule has not come through, so as far as I know, The Masked Singer won’t be filmed this year for Channel 10,” Hughes said on his show Hughesy, Ed and Erin on 2DayFM.

“We’ve had such a great time over those years, it’s been such a fun show to be on, so many great singers have been on,” he continued. “We’ve had great panels. We started with Jackie O, Dannii Minogue, [Lindsay] Lohan, then Urzila Carlson came in, we’ve got Abbie Chatfield, Chrissy Swan, Mel B. All stars in their own right."

“It’s a tough one for the production team.”

Later during the radio show, Hughesy and the team called Osher Günsberg to question whether The Bachelor was facing the same grim fate as The Masked Singer.

“I tell you what, I haven’t cancelled our trip to Fiji, which is in the middle of the shooting window we normally have [for The Bachelor],” Günsberg, who has been host of the dating show since 2013, said.

Osher went on to criticise Australian TV for putting British and American shows on prime time, rather than favouring homegrown talent.

“I personally feel we really need to value our own stories, and our culture, and our own voices far more highly,” he said. “And we’ve got to do what we need to do to make that happen on our screens."

“If we’re not going to sing our own songs and tell our own stories – we’re just going to be this weird echo of the US and the UK, and that’s not going to work out well for us.”

Last year's season of The Bachelor premiered to the franchise’s lowest ratings in its decade-long history, while personalities involved with The Masked Singer have repeatedly said "it is a very expensive show to produce".

Osher Günsberg slammed for "insulting Australians" over Voice defeat

Osher Günsberg has been slammed online after sharing his thoughts on the Voice to Parliament defeat, saying Aussies were "manipulated" into voting No.

In the final episode of Q+A for 2023, the TV personality said that Australians should be "asking questions about who flooded the zone (with misinformation)", leading to a landslide defeat of the referendum.

A tense exchange kicked off between the panellists when another guest, Liberal party activist Charlotte Mortlock, said the country needed to come together after the referendum defeat.

Günsberg said during the course of the campaign, Australia went "from mostly wanting to do it" to "Oh my God the UN's coming to take my back yard".

He said Australians should be "terrified of how quickly we were manipulated as a country".

#QandA: What is the next step for Indigenous Australians, after the Voice referendum? pic.twitter.com/KgSoHkRp1d

— ABC News (@abcnews) November 27, 2023

"We're really lucky that it wasn't during a khaki election," he said, referring to an election held at a time of war.

Ms Mortlock defended the Coalition and No voters, saying, "It's been such a divisive year... I do absolutely think that there is work that we can do to in a constructive way that is going to really unite the country and that's what we all have to focus on."

Günsberg was quick to question the Liberal party's real motives behind their No campaign, asking whether she felt Opposition Leader Peter Dutton really wanted to unite the nation.

"I do. I think the question really is the how," Ms Mortlock replied.

Günsberg said, "I don't believe he really wants to."

Günsberg and the ABC were both later slammed online for how the program went with some calling the program "insufferable".

Others were quick to poke fun at Osher's impressive reality TV résumé, saying, "After the way Osher insulted mainstream common-sense Aussies I will never watch Bachelor again."

Unmasked: The real secret behind the celebrity reveals in hit show The Masked Singer

Osher Gunsberg has cleared any speculations surrounding The Masked Singer’s biggest mystery.

Australia has gone mad over Channel 10’s brand new show with 1.16 million people tuning in for Monday’s premier and 1.05 million watching episode two.

But despite the success, many viewers had questions as they wondered how the identity of the 12 masked singers were able to be kept a secret as the show was prerecorded a few months ago in front of a studio audience.

Are you telling me that not one person in this massive studio audience has leaked who the celebs are?! 🤔 #MaskedSingerAU
— Charlotte Batty 🍉 (@CharlotteBatty_) 24 September 2019

Surely those audience members had to sign NDA’s!!#MaskedSingerAU pic.twitter.com/OEdtNTSVIQ
— 𝙼𝙸𝙺𝙰𝙴𝙻𝙰 𝙶𝚁𝙰𝙲𝙴 ♥ (@goldcoastgrace) 24 September 2019

So how has the audience that were at the taping not spilled who takes off the mask?#MaskedSingerAU
— Adam Ward (@adamward67) 23 September 2019

So how did they pull it off? No one who wasn’t supposed to be there was there.

“We made some camera people walk out. In the control room, they basically hit record on the machines and walked out. We didn’t even have a photographer!

“Every entrance and exit was guarded by security … we protected it really well and I’m really proud of how we did.”

Others questioned whether the stars were singing live after a few of them proved that they have impressive skills.

But according to Gunsberg, the masked singers are “absolutely” performing live.

“Our costume designer Tim Chappel is incredible. He’s won a Tony and an Oscar for The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert. He designed the masks in such a way that they can fit a microphone inside the mask which picks up the vocals, and I believe the audio guys do a mix of that one with the handheld mic,” he said.

The Masked Singer continues next Monday night at 7:30 pm on Channel 10.
