Russell Hill's daughter shares her outrage over Greg Lynn's sentence

Russell Hill's daughter has expressed her anger over the jury's verdict of former pilot Greg Lynn, who was found not guilty for Hill's murder.

Greg Lynn faced a lengthy trial over the deaths of campers Russell Hill and Carol Clay, but after a week of jury deliberations, was only found guilty for the murder of Carol and was cleared of charges relating to Russell's death.

Following the shock verdict, Hill's daughter Debbi, said she was “angry” at the jury and that she felt her father didn’t get the justice he deserved.

“It’s new, we’ve only just found out, but the more I think about it, the more angry I get at the fact that it didn’t have to be this way,” Ms Hill told 60 Minutes on Sunday.

“My dad was not a violent person in any way. He wouldn’t have provoked anything.”

Ms Hill went on to say that she thinks about what happened to her father every day.

“I’m just really angry that he went camping that day, that time, that he is the person he is and he happened to be right there with my dad and Carol, and this is what happened,” she said.

“I think it was just really bad luck for Dad and Carol that they were there at the time, but it wouldn’t have happened if he [Lynn] wasn’t such an awful person.”

After the trial concluded, more information has come to light about Lynn's past after non-publication orders were lifted.

His first wife Lisa Lynn, 34, was found dead in the front yard of her home in 1999, with a coroner’s report indicating a blood-alcohol level of 0.21 and high levels of anti-depression medication present in her system at the time of her death.

No suicide note was ever found and Lynn was never charged over her death, however detectives are now looking to have the Victorian coroner conduct a full inquest into the 1999 death.

Ms Hill said it was quite concerning to learn about Lynn’s history, saying, “I hope he doesn’t get away with this, but I’ve lost a bit of faith in the whole system.”

“I’m not trusting of it now. We’ll have to wait and see. He’s just such a terrible person.”

Image credits: Facebook / Victoria Police

New details surrounding Emma Pattison’s prior arrest

Warning: This article contains distressing content that some readers may find confronting.

It is now known that Emma Pattison, the headmistress at a private school in the UK who police believe was shot dead by her husband, made a distress call to a family member just hours before she was discovered.

Further to that, new details have emerged that reveal that Mrs Pattison was arrested by Surrey police following a domestic row with her husband, George, seven years ago.

Mr Pattison telephoned police one evening just prior to midnight, claiming that Mrs Pattison had slapped him around the face in their home.

Only a short time later – two minutes or so – Mr Pattison then called the station back to ask the police officers not to come, saying that the matter was inconsequential and that he had overreacted.

However, Surrey police decided to proceed with the home visit to investigate the complaint, and arrested Mrs Pattison on suspicion of common assault.

Mrs Pattison was then questioned in the presence of a solicitor, and was subsequently released without charge.

While a full investigation into their deaths has commenced, Surrey police are currently refusing to discuss Mrs Pattison’s arrest seven years ago in 2016, stating instead that autopsy results on the bodies of all three of the deceased are expected by the end of the week.

Police have yet to disclose the official cause of death, but are confident no one else was involved in the "isolated" incident.

Detectives confirmed a firearm registered to George, of which he had a license for, was found at the scene and they are treating the tragedy as a double murder and suicide.

Detectives suspect George killed his wife Emma, 45, and little Lettie before taking his own life.

Detective Chief Inspector Kimball Edey, senior investigating officer on the case, said, “This is an incredibly traumatic incident and we are working around the clock to investigate and understand the exact circumstances which led to this point."

Don't go it alone. Police finally reveal motive behind murder of campers Russell Hill and Carol Clay

Police have alleged that the two secret lover campers, Russel Hill and Carol Clay, were "childhood sweethearts" who had started their affair 15 years ago.

In a summary of the case against Gregory Lynn, who allegedly killed the pair, police believe that Mr Hill and Ms Clay had rekindled their romance 15 years prior, and would go on regular camping trips to "spend time together".

The pair allegedly drifted apart and had children with other partners, according to the documents provided to the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday.

Mr Hill was married to another woman for 51 years, and according to the police facts provided to the court, his wife believed that he had gone camping alone.

“Those close to them believe that they kept their relationship a secret to spare Hill’s family from distress,” the police statement read.

The pair had gone camping in Wonnangatta Valley on March 19 2020, and they vanished sometime after 6 pm the next day.

Police alleged that Mr Lynn killed the pair after an altercation over a drone, with Mr Hill fatally stabbed and Ms Clay shot in the head.

Police also believed that he returned to the area in May and November 2020 to try and "destroy" evidence by setting the pair's remains on fire.

Their bodies were buried around 40km from the campsite in Dargo on November 2021.

Mr Lynn was in the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court this week for a committal hearing to decide whether there is enough evidence for him to stand trial in the Supreme Court.

Images: Victoria Police

Shannen Doherty opens up about her cancer battle

Shannen Doherty made an appearance on Good Morning America on Monday, and was incredibly candid about her battle with stage four breast cancer. The actor had previously revealed that her cancer returned last year.

“I’m living life, I’m spending a lot of time with friends and family and working. I think work was always very fulfilling to me but in a way, it’s become even more fulfilling,” Doherty told the GMA hosts over Zoom.

“A lot of people who get diagnosed with stage four, they sort of get written off. It’s assumed that they cannot work or that they cannot work at their full capacity. That is not true and that is something that I would really like the people to stop assuming and give us a chance to prove them wrong.”

In an interview with GMA last year, Doherty revealed her cancer had returned after she had been in remission for five years. After being asked if she wanted to own her cancer story, Doherty said through tears, “Yeah, I’d rather people hear it from me.”

Doherty has been owning her story throughout her battle, sharing the highs and lows with her fans on Instagram, including her first day of radiation treatment and a photo of her hair loss after starting chemotherapy.

View this post on Instagram

A post shared by ShannenDoherty (@theshando)

View this post on Instagram

A post shared by ShannenDoherty (@theshando)

The actor is still on her first treatment schedule, also known as a protocol. She told GMA, “You want to last on your protocols as long as possible so that you don’t run out of protocols. You really have to dig deep to face cancer and in that, you find all the stuff that you had hidden away and it’s beautiful things that you find. You find the vulnerability, you find your trust in people again, you find forgiveness.”

She added that she doesn’t believe in bucket lists, and instead is “going to keep fighting to stay alive”. “I’d like to say that those are goals, because a bucket list almost feels like those things that you check off before you die and I never want to operate like that,” she said.

Image: Neilson Barnard/Getty Images for Hallmark Channel

Rod Stewart's "hidden track" inside his Beverly Hills home

He has long been known as a railway enthusiast, even if at times he chose not to talk about it. But Sir Rod Stewart's legendary choo-choo layout -–26 years in the making – just has to be seen to be believed.

The rocker's astonishingly detailed 124ft long x 23ft wide model depicting an American city and its industrial hinterland in the 1940s contains hundreds of buildings, from trackside switchman shanties to vast factories and skyscrapers.

Called Grand Street And Three Rivers City, it also features a railway station crossed by numerous bridges at rush hour.

Also featured in the landscape are period cars and lorries, driving alongside the train tracks.

Everything is dramatically lit in the colours of late afternoon sunshine.

Sir Rod told Railway Modeller magazine that scenery and structure modelling, rather than locomotives, trackwork or electrics, are his forte.

"It's the landscape I like. Attention to detail, extreme detail, is paramount. There shouldn't be any unsightly gaps or pavements that are too clean," he said.

Sir Rod was inspired by American Railways because that is where we has living when he began creating the model in 1993.

At the time, he had recently built a new house in Los Angeles and included an attic room specifically for the layout.

While Sir Rod acknowledged it took a while for him to publicly admit he was a railway enthusiast, he agreed in his interview with the magazine that attitudes now appear to be changing towards model railway making.

But he added that he was still wary about answering questions on TV about it because "it's hard to talk about something so all-encompassing" if he was meant to be discussing his music.

His passion was first inflamed when he was "eight or nine" on a family holiday in Bognor Regis where he saw a "marvellous" railway layout in a model shop.

He said his father had once given him the advice that "every man needs a hobby".

"Mine's model railway," said Sir Rod, who had a toy railway as a child. When he wanted a station for it, his dad bought him a guitar instead, which many might think turned out to be a shrewd move.

His fortune stands at £190 million, according to the Sunday Times' UK Musicians' Rich List, and he has had nine No 1 albums and 62 hit singles in the UK.

Sir Rod said guests are stunned by his magnificent model railway when he runs it for them at his LA home. He said: 'When I take on something creative like this, I have to give it 110 per cent. For me, it's addictive. I started, so I just had to finish.

"I'm lucky I had the room. If I'd realised at the start it would have taken so long, I'd have probably said No! No! Nah!"

Photos: Facebook and Model Railroader Magazine

Hands off my Hills Hoist

A brawl has broken out in a Queensland retirement village following a dispute over a Hills Hoist clothesline.

83-year-old pensioner Jim Wedrat installed the line in his backyard six months ago after he found his sheets going mouldy on the wall-mount clothesline provided by his North Rockhampton retirement home PresCare Alexandra Gardens.

He said he told local managers of his plan three months prior and heard no objections. However, the administrators called him after the line was installed and said it “needed to be taken down”, he told The Courier Mail.

Wedrat’s lease agreement states that he is prohibited from making alterations to the property without PresCare’s approval. However, Wedrat said he has not been flagged by administrators for other alterations he carried out, such as the installation of reticulation lines for shared areas.

“I’ve spent about a thousand dollars out here [in the garden] and this is the thanks I get,” Wedrat said.

Wedrat’s neighbours Denver and Vivien, who share the yard, told A Current Affair the line is unnecessary.

“[Vivien doesn’t] need it. I don’t need it,” 76-year-old Denver said.

Denver said Wedrat accused him of reporting the line installation to PresCare and threw the first punch.

“He’s telling everyone around here that I rung up and dobbed him in but I couldn’t care, he can have it there, it’s not hurting me,” Denver said.

“I did abuse him a bit, but it wasn’t over the Hills Hoist. It was over the fact that he was telling everyone I rung Brisbane up.

“I walked over and abused the crap out of him. He come out his door punching so I put him on the ground.

“The only way I’ll get stuck in is if he comes punching at me again. I’m not going to let anyone stand there and punch me.”

PresCare initially told The Courier Mail the line needed to be removed to ensure the residents’ “safety and wellbeing”.

However, in a statement to A Current Affair, PresCare CEO Greg Skelton said the aged care facility has reached an agreement with Wedrat.

“PresCare is happy to announce the matter with Mr Wedrat has been resolved to both parties satisfaction,” said Skelton.
