“Joyful” Tyrese Bechard farewelled in first funeral for five teen crash victims

One of the teens killed in the devastating Buxton crash has been remembered as having a “heart of gold” after he was farewelled at an emotional service on Thursday.

Tyrese Bechard was 16 when he and four other teens were killed in a horrific crash in southwest Sydney on September 6.

Mr Bechard’s funeral was the first of five ceremonies for the victims who all attended the same high school in Picton.

Hundreds gathered at HisHouse Church in Picton on Thursday, with Coldplay’s Fix You being heard playing above the quiet sobs of loved ones before the service began.

His coffin was brought into the church to the song Forever Young.

Family and friends spoke fondly of Mr Bechard, remembering his zest for life and boundless kindness.

In a touching memorial slideshow, dozens of photos showed the teen having fun on bikes, riding on a motorbike with his uncle, and enjoying life with family and friends.

“Tyrese was a young man with a heart of gold,” the slideshow read.

“He was always kind and respectful to everyone around him.

“His joyful character will be missed dearly by everyone he met.”

His aunt Rebecca gave an emotional tribute to her nephew, describing him as a “selfless” and “fearless” boy who was taken too soon.

“Our beautiful boy, you were taken too soon,” she said.

“For everyone who knew him, he was a caring, kind, respectful and fearless young man.

“He was a cheeky kid growing up. Fast forward a few years, he grew into a respectful young man.

“Reecy was so selfless and put others before himself. He always said hello and gave you a big hug.

“I‘m going to miss looking over the dinner table and watching your reaction to things you didn’t agree with.

“Reecy, we miss you. We miss your laugh, your cheeky smile and courageous energy. Fly high my beautiful boy.”

His cousin Marcus described him as a “second brother” who will never be forgotten.

“Whenever we had a family gathering, I would look forward to seeing him,” Marcus said.

“I’ll never forget what he’s done for my family and me.”

Mr Bechard’s grandparents, who raised the teen, were both visibly distraught during the service, with his grandfather tearily hugging friends.

His coffin was carried out to the hearse by six men, with Adele’s Easy On Me playing through the church.

The song marked an emotional farewell to Mr Bechard, who loved new music and always shared new finds with family and friends.

Outside the church, around 250 people gathered to form a guard of honour for the hearse.

Students at Picton High had been given the day off school and were seen hugging each other while waiting on the other side of the road for Mr Bechard’s family to be driven away.

At the cemetery in the nearby town of Thirlmere, teens carrying orange, white and black balloons followed the procession to the teen’s final resting place.

His coffin was piled high with an arrangement of red and white flowers.

After mourners paid their final tributes to the teen, which included the playing of club music that represented his love of dance music and enthusiasm for life, students released more than 20 balloons into the sky above his grave.

The families of the other children who were killed also attended the service, as those who knew the teens are due to repeat the grief-filled process over and over in the coming days.

The teens reportedly told their parents they were just going on a “maccas run” that night, but instead drove around for hours.

When they didn’t return home, alarm bells were raised.

Melissa Davis, a local resident of Wollondilly, set up a GoFundMe page to raise funds for the five families with the help of Wollondilly town Mayor Matt Gould.

In just six days, donations totalling $17,570 have flooded in for the families.

Image: 7news.com.au

Mel Gibson called out by West Wing star in scathing op-ed

West Wing actor Joshua Malina has called out Mel Gibson and his employment in show business amid the controversial scandals surrounding the actor.

Malina, who plays Will Bailey on the political drama, has questioned why Gibson is still employed in Hollywood despite his long history of alleged anti-Semitism, homophobia and bigotry.

In a recent op-ed for The Atlantic titled Cancel Mel Gibson, Malina wondered why Hollywood's 'cancel culture' seemingly doesn't apply to Gibson.

"Gibson is a well-known Jew-hater (anti-Semite is too mild). His prejudices are well documented," Malina wrote.

"So my question is, what does a guy have to do these days to get put on Hollywood's no-fly list? I'm a character actor. I tend to take the jobs that come my way. But — and this hurts to write — you couldn't pay me enough to work with Mel Gibson."

Mel Gibson has reportedly been cast in the upcoming John Wick prequel spin-off series titled The Continental, and is also rumoured to be in talks to direct Lethal Weapon 5.

Malina continued, wondering when someone's ignorance and hatred outweighs their impressive resume.

"Now, I love the Lethal Weapon movies (at least the first few). And Danny Glover's a gem," Malina continued.

"But Gibson? Yes, he's a talented man. Many horrible people produce wonderful art. Put me down as an ardent fan of Roald Dahl, Pablo Picasso, and Edith Wharton; can't get enough of what they're selling."

"But these three had the good taste to die. That makes it a lot easier to enjoy their output. Gibson lives. And Tinseltown need not employ him further."

Joshua Malina goes on to say that the point of 'cancel culture' is to hold people accountable for their actions, but those in Hollywood often get a free pass because of their celebrity status.

"If Gibson is welcomed back to direct the latest instalment of this beloved franchise, it may be time to stop publishing think pieces about the power of 'cancel culture,'" Malina wrote.

"Because if he can continue to find big bucks and approbation in Hollywood, cancel culture simply does not exist."

Pay the piper: Authorities finally move on cancer fraud Belle Gibson

Authorities have moved in on cancer fraud Belle Gibson after a warrant was issued to raid her home to seize her assets, according to The Daily Mail.

Gibson has previously claimed that she wasn’t “in a position” to pay back her $410,000 fine six months ago, but the warrant executed a “seize and sell” warrant on her home, which means that her assets have been seized to pay back what she owes.

She has been living free and seemingly happy since her fine for duping Australians was handed back in September 2017.

The amount Gibson owes has since ballooned to more than $500,000 as this figure includes fines, interests and other penalties.

Consumer Affairs Victoria quietly filed for the warrant at the Federal Court in late December, which was issued this week and officers descended on her home for retrieval for the assets.

In a statement, a spokeswoman for Consumer Affairs Victoria said:

“Sheriff's Officers visited an address in Northcote today to execute a warrant of seizure and sale on items belonging to Ms Gibson.

“Consumer Affairs Victoria is committed to recovering the debt Ms Gibson owes the Victorian public and will continue to pursue Ms Gibson until it is repaid in full.”

It is unknown what was seized from Gibson’s property, but her mysterious finances continue to be of interest to the court system.

In court, Gibson explained that she could not afford the fine.

“I'm not in a position to pay a $410,000 fine at this time”, she said.

However, Carl Moller, who was the barrister for Consumer Affairs Victoria, told Gibson that she had spent $91,000 over a two-year period. This was spent on clothing, cosmetics, accessories and a shocking $45,000 was listed as “discretionary spending”.

Moller asked if Gibson had money to pay off the fine.

“Can you find some money to pay off the fine?” he asked.

“No,” Gibson replied.

Moller also was curious as to who deposited $1,600 as this funded a trip overseas to Bali.

“Is it seriously your evidence that $1600 was deposited into your account, in three deposits in the space of about a week, and you don't know who deposited it?” Moller asked.

“I'd have to speculate and I'm not willing to do that,” Gibson replied.

Earlier this year, A Current Affair revealed that Gibson had gone on a trip to South Africa, which was met with fury from the public.

“Don’t you think it’s more important to be paying back that fine rather than going on an overseas trip?” a reporter asked Gibson upon her return to Australia. Gibson said nothing.

Photo credits: Gotcha Belle!: A Current Affair 2019

Cancer fraud Belle Gibson spotted on school run despite not paying back $410k in fines

Cancer fraud Belle Gibson has stepped out months after “locking herself away” after being ordered to explain why she hasn’t paid off her $410,000 in fines.

Gibson was fined $410,000 for defrauding hard-working Aussies by pretending she cured cancer through healthy living. She was found guilty of five breaches of consumer laws.

However, despite the warning and the substantial amount of fines to pay off, Gibson remains a free person in the community and dropped off her child at school.

Gibson quickly became annoyed when she realised a photographer was taking her photo and indignantly raised her mobile phone to take pictures of the photographer.

She quickly made headlines after falsely claiming she had brain cancer and healed herself with natural remedies, giving those who legitimately suffered from cancer new hope for finding a cure for their disease.

She lied to well meaning consumers who supported her Whole Pantry app as well as book sales as she said she would donate money to various charities as well as a boy with inoperable brain cancer, but never ended up donating the money.

Gibson received $440,500 from sales from her book and her app, but only donated around $10,000 to charity.

What angers people more is that despite claiming that she has no money to pay off the funds, she has been seen going on holidays to Bali and Africa and has spent $90,000 over two years.

Cameron Miller, who runs the Shaun Miller foundation said that the damage Gibson has done is “wrong”.

“I just think it's disgusting that she's taken advantage of these people,” he said to The Daily Mail.

“She's out there parading like she's Lady Muck. I just think it's wrong.”

Miller also said that she was giving a bad name to reputable charities.

“When you have people like this it makes it hard for other foundations to convince people to donate money when you've got shonks out there,” he said.

“I just can't get over it ... she's laughing at all these people. She should have been prosecuted (by police). She's a fraudster. She is a con-woman and she should have been prosecuted to the whole letter of the law but she just thinks it's funny.”

While Gibson was grilled in the Federal Court earlier this year over why she hasn’t paid the fines, she claimed she was “not in a position to pay a $410,000 fine at this time”.

Former editor opens up about Belle Gibson: “We’re all still being duped”

A former magazine editor has come forward about her experience with the renowned Belle Gibson.

The Australian blogger catapulted to fame for her “clean eating” methods that she claimed healed her multiple cancers.

In June 2009, the wellness “health guru” announced she had been diagnosed with malignant brain cancer, admitting she had between six weeks to four months to live.

Months later, Gibson claimed she had completely healed herself of her cancer and in August 2013 launched an app to help others heal from their health problems – reportedly garnering over 200,000 downloads within the first month.

An investigation later revealed Belle had made false claims about donating portions of her income to charity and had completely fabricated her cancer and health conditions – as well as her age and family background.

View this post on Instagram

Ahhh Belle Gibson is back in the news.
