Dave Hughes finally confronts Kyle Sandilands in on-air ambush

On Thursday morning, Australian radio’s greatest long-running feud got the surprise intervention nobody saw coming – except maybe Jackie O, who orchestrated the whole thing like a puppet master with a microphone.

Jackie O shocked her KIIS FM co-host Kyle Sandilands by bringing in a “mystery guest”, a title that in this case translates to “someone Kyle would rather not speak to before breakfast”. That guest? None other than Australian comedian Dave Hughes, with whom Sandilands has been beefing since approximately the invention of sliced bread (or, more accurately, 2007).

“I had a bit of apprehension,” Jackie admitted, as if unleashing an old nemesis on her co-host was a last-minute decision rather than a premeditated ratings bonanza. And fair enough – over the years, Sandilands and Hughesy have clashed at awards shows, on social media and even in a recent interview where Hughesy announced to the world that he had "no empathy" for Sandilands.

But the most shocking revelation of the day wasn’t the feud itself – it was the fact that one of their biggest online spats was started by none other than Jackie O herself. When she mentioned the duo’s "2009 Twitter feud", Sandilands – who has never had a Twitter account – looked baffled. Turns out, Jackie had taken it upon herself to create a fake Kyle Sandilands Twitter profile to fire back at Hughesy.

Yes, in an era before blue checkmarks and widespread catfishing awareness, Jackie O was out there roleplaying as Kyle, getting into digital fisticuffs with Australia’s favourite nasal-voiced comedian. Hughesy, for his part, was shocked to discover that all these years later, he had been arguing with a radio host’s alter ego and not the real deal.

Their Twitter war, largely fought over who had better TV and radio ratings (a battle in which there are no winners, only casualties), was quickly eclipsed by yet another awkward moment from the past: Sandilands once saying on TV that he “wanted to murder” Hughesy. A comment so extreme that even Kyle himself had no recollection of making it – though, to be fair, it’s probably not the first nor the last time Kyle has forgotten saying something controversial on air.

“Look, I know you could afford to have me killed – and I could afford to have you killed – but we’re not going to do that,” Hughesy quipped, proving that humour can, in fact, be the best conflict resolution tool.

With the beef officially squashed (or at least put on simmer), Hughesy bid farewell, but not before dropping yet another unexpected bombshell. When Sandilands asked if he still kept in touch with their Masked Singer co-star Lindsay Lohan, Hughesy recalled a moment so bizarre it might just be the greatest mystery in Aussie celebrity history.

“The funniest moment of my life was driving along in the country on a Sunday and getting a call from Lindsay – she said ‘I want to go on your radio show right now, because Dannii Minogue’s trying to ruin my life.’ It was a Sunday!” Hughes revealed.

And just like that, we were gifted another unexpected celebrity feud: Lindsay Lohan vs. Dannii Minogue – a battle that, unlike Kyle and Hughesy’s, had been lurking in the shadows all this time. What exactly did Dannii do to warrant Lohan’s dramatic distress call? Did she steal her spotlight? Refuse to share a hair straightener? These are the questions that will now keep Australia up at night.

But for today, at least, we can rest easy knowing that Kyle and Hughesy have finally found common ground. And that common ground is mutual confusion over Jackie O’s decade-old social media catfishing escapades.

Images: Supplied

Aussie mums rally behind woman who confronted daughter's bully

A group of mums have rallied behind a pregnant woman who stormed into her daughter's classroom to confront the 12-year-old who was bullying her.

The mother from Adelaide made headlines after she walked into her daughter's classroom at St Paul's College in Gillies Plains, north-east Adelaide, on Monday, where she launched into an expletive-ridden tirade at her daughter's bully.

The mother told Seven News that she and her husband had pleaded with the school to intervene in her daughter's alleged bullying, but said that fell on deaf ears.

"I don't want my daughter to be another statistic. I don't want to have to bury my child," she said. "She was crying, she was devastated that this child told her to go and hang herself."

After the woman lashed out at her daughter's bully, she issued an apology saying, "What everybody has seen of me is not who I am as a mother or as a person."

However, many thought she had nothing to apologise for, as many women rallied behind her online saying they would have done the same thing if their child was being bullied.

Young mum and personal trainer Jess Dickson stood up for the woman, saying for a mum to "lose her s**** like that" shows that she genuinely believed her daughter's life was at stake.

"The tonality, and the frustration, and the fear, and just the 'f*** you' in her voice it really shows that this was a final straw for this mum," she said in a TikTok video.

"Now in the past year, multiple children have committed suicide because of bullying because no one stands up for them. Teachers and parents might not see it, and the parents of the bullies probably just say, 'Oh no, that's not my kid'."

Many agreed with Ms Dickson's take, saying they would "rather attend court than their child's funeral".

"Team Mumma Bear all the way... Personally, I would have been right there beside her if my kid was in the same school," one mum wrote.

"Soooo on team Mama Bear. I fear I would be a bit more psychotic," another agreed.

"Stern warning": William Tyrrell's foster mother abused outside court

William Tyrrell's foster mother has been targeted in wild scenes outside court as she left the inquest into the child's disappearance, as another woman was seen "hurling abuse at her".

When leaving court on Monday afternoon, the woman, who is unable to be named, was abused and heckled by an unknown female, as Counsel Assisting Gerard Craddock SC informed NSW Deputy State Coroner Harriet Grahame.

"There is no place in civil society for that at all," he told the inquiry. "It is particularly terrible in these circumstances."

He asked the coroner to "remind people in attendance that orderly conduct is required. That sort of conduct could amount to being punishable by contempt of court".

Coroner Grahame said, "That is very disappointing. If that person is in this court now they should be warned (the court) can take action."

"That sort of behaviour must not occur. I'm just disturbed by that sort of behaviour. I use a stern warning. Please behave."

The incident was revealed at the beginning of the second day of the resumed inquest into the disappearance of the three-year-old boy 10 years ago.

The inquest is probing the police theory that William Tyrell's foster mother buried his body in bushland after he fell from a balcony and died on the morning he vanished from Kendall, on the NSW mid north coast, in September 2014.

"Can you sleep at night?" Frustrated shopper confronts Woolies CEO over price gouging

A frustrated Woolworths shopper has called out the supermarket's CEO in store to demand answers about Woolies' record-breaking profits during the cost of living crisis.

Chief executive Amanda Bardwell was walking around a Woolworths store in Wollongong when the heated exchange took place, with the whole thing captured on camera.

The customer fired off hard-hitting questions to the CEO and other senior staff members, asking, "What do you have to say to the fact that your company is profiting off price gouging during the cost of living crisis?"

Ms Bardwell, looking visibly shocked by the confrontation, replied, "Thank you for reaching out to us, we're doing everything we can to recognise that customers are doing it tough to make sure that they're able to get great prices."

The woman didn't accept her answer, firing back, "I really don't believe that. Millions of people in Australia right now have to skip meals in order to survive, while you continue to make big bucks and working class people suffer. Can you sleep at night knowing that?"

Ms Bardwell replied, "Our team are doing everything that we can to support our customers. We understand that it is an incredibly difficult time right now."

A staff member then intervened, adding, "We have lowered prices and you see that right throughout our store… that's great value for our customers."

Ms Bardwell thanked the customer for sharing her views and said Woolworths was doing "everything we can" to keep prices low for customers, before another staff member chimed in to say "It's actually illegal to film people in NSW without permission, with the CEO walking away.

Social media users were quick to praise the woman for confronting Miss Bardwell, while sharing their own stories of being stung by hefty supermarket prices.

"I'm sick of paying nearly $300 a week on groceries. That's choosing the cheapest products. My fridge still looks half empty when I unpack," one said.

"I'm sure Coles and Woolworth management don't have cost of living crisis as they are getting bigger and bigger bonus year after year," a second wrote.

Others took aim at one particular comment in the video, pointing out, "'It’s illegal to film in NSW without permission', yet Woolworths has how many cameras in every store? "Worst nightmare”: Great-grandma confronts violent home intruder

A distraught great-grandmother has recounted the "nightmare" she endured when her home was targeted during a violent home invasion.

Stella, 85, was woken up at midnight on Wednesday by a light shining from the kitchen of the Perth home where she has lived with her husband for close to 30 years.

She got out of bed to inspect the noise and was met face-to-face with an intruder.

Stella said she threw a radio at the stranger to defend herself and called out to her husband, who had not heard the commotion because his hearing aids were not in and he was sleeping in another room.

“I got the long handle brush and ... I pushed it into him and that’s when he must’ve thought I better get out of here,” Stella told 7News.

During the terrifying ordeal, Stella was both threatened and punched in the face, and is now nursing a cut, bruising and swelling.

The great-grandmother said she was still shaken over her “worst nightmare”, saying, “We’ve been here since 1995. This is the first thing that has ever happened.”

The canine squad was called in and arrested an 18-year-old male who was found under a car in a neighbour’s front yard.

Police allege the teenager broke into Stella’s son’s caravan, which is parked at the back of her property, between 6.30pm and 7pm on Wednesday before coming back hours later and forcing his way into her home.

The accused has been charged with home burglary and commit, stealing, aggravated home burglars, aggravated robbery, possession of stolen or unlawfully obtained property and unlicensed possession of ammunition.

Ranger's confrontation with mum sparks debate

An altercation between a woman and a parking inspector in Sydney's Double Bay has sparked debate online.

Video footage of the confrontation was shared on social media, and the pair can be seen arguing over a parking ticket the woman received on Cross St, where two-hour parking rules apply.

The woman claimed that she'd "just parked" her car and was paying for a ticket when the inspector arrived to fine her.

She started recording him as he was "rude and abrupt", with the video showing him writing up the fine and telling her that he will be adding a complaint to his notes.

"You're harassing me, I'll call the police," the ranger said to the woman, as she films him up close.

As he turns abruptly pointing a finger toward her, and telling her to leave he appears to hit the phone, and the woman accuses him of assault.

"You physically assaulted me. Wow. It's all on camera," she said to the ranger.

She also claimed that the ranger "pushed her away", and said that it was "terrifying".

The video posted online attracted mixed responses from locals, with some arguing that "there's more to the story" as the video didn't capture what happened before she started filming.

However, a few others called the ranger out for his "shocking" behaviour.

"The ranger has no right to assault anyone. And if it was when they were on the job, it’s a sackable offence, if not criminal," one said.

Another argued that the woman was also in the wrong for being "up in his face" as the ranger was "just doing his job".

"You can tell he didn't mean to knock the camera, and that she was up in his face," another added.

A spokesperson for Woollahra Council confirmed they were aware of the incident and "regrets any distress experienced during the issuing of a fine due to an illegally parked vehicle."

"We understand no one likes receiving a fine, but [we] ask members of the public to refrain from taking out their frustration on Council staff, either verbally or physically," they told Yahoo News.

Images: Facebook/ Yahoo

“Say it to my face”: Novak Djokovic confronts Aus Open hecklers

Novak Djokovic has confronted rowdy Australian Open audience members, saying the “tough guy” in the crowd “crossed the line” with his unsolicited commentary.

The Serbian tennis player was on his way to a victory against Aussie player Alexei Popyrin when he got caught in a verbal altercation with a spectator.

The frustrated defending grand slam champion was heard during the match yelling, "Come here and say it to my face" to a fan seated behind him at Rod Laver Arena.

"Come here! Outrage after renters confronted with cleaning “scoring system”

An Australian real estate agent has come under fire for their “demoralising” scoring system for tenants during routine inspections.

One fired up renter said they were shocked to receive a scorecard from the agent after they complied with an inspection, and shared their feedback on Reddit.

The scorecard rated the tenant’s efforts cleaning the property in 17 different rooms and areas, marking them on cleanliness, and if the areas were damaged or required maintenance.

The renter was then also given an overall rating out of five stars, based on the upkeep of their rental home.

The Reddit user showed that they received just three and half stars, despite being marked down in only one area due to a light globe not working.

In their post, the tenant said they had made every effort to clean the home, adding that the rating was “demoralising”.

“I’ve been renting a long time, and my deep cleaning routine is based around inspections,” they explained.

“I go all out - every room in my little 3x2 villa is given a spring clean, every surface is washed including walls, doors, lights, windows, carpets etc.”

“Had my latest inspection a few weeks ago and just received the report. Despite the agent commenting once again that she never sees houses as clean as mine, and taking 112 (!) photos of every single thing that shows how great the condition of the house is - having one light globe not working is so terrible that I’m scored three and a half out of five.”

The renter went on to say that they had only recently discovered that the broken light globe was the real estate’s responsibility to replace, and does not warrant such a severe marking down in their “score”.

“The globe in question is a downlight fitting. We have so many downlights that I don’t even use this particular one,” they continued.

“I can’t replace the globe itself, I need to get into the roof to replace the whole unit. Thanks to people here I’ve learned this isn’t even my responsibility to fix!”

The renter’s post sparked a huge outrage online, with many up in arms over the current state of the rental market and unrealistic expectations of estate agents.

One person said, “I fully believe that the average renter keeps a home to a higher standard than an owner, and it seems deliberately demoralising that someone could be marked down for having a light out.”

Another added, “This is ridiculously petty, and more importantly, totally irrelevant to the purpose of a periodic inspection. Which is to identify whether any maintenance is needed.”

A third person took their anger out on the entire system, summing it up by writing, “I sort of wonder what little lightbulb clicks in your mind and you wake up one day and ask yourself, ‘How can I be a massive c*** who offers no value to society? I know! I will get into real estate.’”

Image credits: Getty Images / Reddit

Woman praised for confronting pickpockets

An Italian woman has generated a lot of praise after her “brilliant” way of calling out pickpockets disguised as tourists has gone viral.

Monica, 57, is part of a volunteer group called Cittadini Non Distratti, meaning "Citizens not distracted," which aims to to disturb and prevent active pickpockets in the popular tourist destination.

She works alongside 40 other volunteers and has dedicated 30 years of her life saving tourists from the sneaky snatchers, and they’re doing it out of sheer goodwill.

"People are pickpocketed for their American or English passport, then to return to their country they have to go to the embassy in [...] Rome," Monica told Newsweek.

"This incurs additional expenses for them, so it is better to prevent this by warning tourists of the problem."

The videos, which were originally posted on Facebook, have gained the attention of a younger audience after they started posting on TikTok.

"We decided to make our videos go viral to inform tourists to be careful," she said.

"There is a lack of prevention and information about what is happening in the city and we are all happy that these videos are letting people see the problem in Venice and throughout Italian cities."

Many of the volunteers have their own way of weeding out the pickpockets, with some using a deafening whistle to capture the attention of everyone around them.

Others just call out “attention pickpocket” in both English and Italian then proceed to shoo away the pickpockets, telling them to “go away” and for tourists to “watch out for their wallets”.

In the video that has gone viral, the pickpockets can be seen scurrying away from the crowd as soon as these volunteers call them out.

Although the original video and account “citadininondistratti” got banned on TikTok, many other accounts have reposted and reshared the content.

Many have commented their praise for the group, despite local police officers reportedly not supporting this form of vigilante justice.

“Thank you for your service ma’am,” wrote one person.

“Brilliant 👏” wrote a second person.

“I was in Rome, both times I was on the train the locals warned and pushed the pickpockets away from me. Love the locals,” wrote a third.

“She called them purse thieves in Italian,” commented one amused person.

Images: TikTok

"Who picks a fight with a rock star?" Jimmy Barnes confronts on-road "bully"

Jimmy Barnes' wife Jane has ripped into a truck driver who "bullied" the couple on the road, with the driver attempting to "fight Jimmy on the roadside".

Jane Barnes said the incident occurred on Wednesday night in the south Sydney suburb of Botany Bay, when the couple had been driving home from a charity event.

In a furious thread on Twitter, Jane detailed the terrifying incident which resulted in the police being called.

Jane wrote, "(He) cut us off across our lane and swiped our mirror, wanted to fight Jimmy on the roadside."

"Trucks are like weapons, bullies behind the wheel a danger to us all," she wrote, alongside the hashtags #TOLL and #NOtobullies.

Jane then shared a photo of the truck drivers' side profile as he almost came to blows with the rockstar, as well as photos of the truck's license plate and the Barnes' car which shows the drivers' side wing mirror bent out of place.

Jane went on to say the truckie had shared his details with the couple and that NSW Police had been called over the altercation.

However, she said, officers "couldn't do much" if there were no injuries or damages.

Jane's post drew in a wave of attention, with one fan asking, "Who picks a fight with a rock star?"

Ms Barnes replied, "Shouldn't matter who it is. This guy was just a pig. Swearing, smug, ignorant, misogynist bully."

The musician continued her rant on Instagram, writing, "When you drive a truck you're in charge of a weapon. A bully at the wheel can kill people."

Many sent their sympathies to the couple, with some saying the tweet was "poignant" given the increase in accidents on Aussie roads.

Jim Chalmers confronted by struggling pensioner over the cost of living crisis

A struggling pensioner with just $20 in her bank account has quizzed treasurer Jim Chalmers on what essentials she should be forced to give up in order to keep up with the surge in cost of living prices.

The Treasurer appeared on ABC's Q+A on Thursday night for a post-budget breakdown, when Fiona got her chance to ask him a question.

“With non-discretionary items rising faster than CPI indexation, welfare recipients like myself are meant to be grateful for (the rise to indexation). What essentials should I be cutting from my budget?” she said.

Age, Carer and Disability Support Pensioners will receive a rise of $38.90 a fortnight for singles and $58.80 for couples as part of routine indexation, but Fiona said it was still not enough.

“It’s all falling behind, I’m playing catch up,” she said.

Her desperate plea left Chalmers struggling to offer her any hope, as he warned inflation would continue to rise, forcing the government to make difficult decisions.

Jim Chalmers spruiked the simplicity of his first budget, but as the price of items rises faster than the rate of welfare - is it really ‘bread and butter’ for struggling households? #QandA pic.twitter.com/p0eECVajlR

— QandA (@QandA) November 3, 2022

“The best thing we can do is try and address inflation. Passenger’s “self-entitled” request sparks unusual confrontation

A passenger’s ridiculous request to another passenger has been subject to a flood of outrage online, after she asked the passenger to turn off their in-flight movie.

Sharing the flight experience on Reddit, a 22-year-old woman shared the moment she was approached by a fellow traveller on a Delta flight which led to a series of confrontations.

"Today was the first time I've ever had a negative encounter during a flight," she wrote in a lengthy post.

The woman explained that she was sitting in an aisle seat on a plane when she began watching the newly released action movie Uncharted, which was available on her in-flight entertainment screen.

"The flight took off and maybe 10 minutes into it, I got tapped on my shoulder by a woman who is in the aisle behind me and in the aisle seat across from me," she continued.

"I ask her if everything is okay and she tells me to turn my movie off. Confused, I asked her why. She said it was because she had not seen the movie and didn't want to see my screen and see any spoilers."

The woman kept her composure at the ridiculous request, telling the passenger she was welcome to watch the film on her own screen.

"I responded that I was going to keep watching my movie. She huffed and she started to complain, but I just ignored her."

While the woman ignored the rest of the complainer’s issues, the confrontation continued when the plane landed.

"Once we landed, she immediately jumped from her seat and grabbed her bags and blocked the aisle for all those behind her," she wrote, adding that they were “seated towards the back of the plane and it took some time before people started moving."

"By the time it got to our aisle, I stood up and then began to grab my bag from the overhead bin. At the same time I did this, the lady from earlier tried to start walking and then started yelling at me for cutting her off and I should let her go.

"By this time I was tired and ready to get off the plane and said, 'ma'am if you were in such a rush to get off, then you should have picked a seat closer to the front or got an upgraded seat'.”

"She rolled her eyes and called me a 'stuck up b****' and kept going on and on about how people are so disrespectful these days."

In the comments of the Reddit post, the complaining passenger was widely roasted, with the poster being praised for keeping her composure.

One comment read, "The self-entitled lady was the a--hole, not you. But take pleasure in this: you lived rent-free in her head for the entire flight, and probably the rest of that whole day."

"You were very polite and classy with your response. Good job at keeping a level head and not escalating," was another response, while someone else wrote, "You should have told her the spoilers of the movie, you know in case she missed them."

Teenage "speed camera warrior" confronted by grouchy "Karen"

Teenage "speed camera warrior" Beau Jackson has been confronted by a disgruntled middle-aged woman as he warned motorists of an upcoming speed camera.

The Central Coast local has dedicated his free time to alerting drivers to hidden speed cameras that can often result in hefty fines.

While parked on the side of the road with a sign bringing attention to the sneaky cameras, thankful motorists often show their appreciation to Beau by honking their horn.

Despite his noble cause, the 17-year-old had his first unpleasant experience with a local, and shared the confrontation on social media.

Beau filmed the woman, who he dubbed 'Karen' walking away and said from behind the camera, "This lady tried getting me by complaining about the honks - tried getting a photo of my number plate."

"It's the first Karen interaction," he laughed, as another passer-by honked their horn.

"She tried to take a photo of my number plate - I'm legally parked, there's nothing she can do about it."

When speaking to Daily Mail Australia, Beau explained the woman lived close to where he was parked, and got sick and tired of the honking noise.

"She asked me to move because she was sick of the honking," he said.

"I told her I was only parked there because the speed camera van was parked a few metres in front of me."

The woman was unfazed about his mission to save locals from spending hundreds of dollars in speeding tickets and continued demanding that he move.

When he continually refused, she started taking photos of Mr Jackson and his bike.

"So I started taking photos of her," he recalled.

"She backed right off when I did that, and then she starting making phone calls."

Beau was unsure of who the woman was calling, but explained that as soon as the mobile speed camera took off from the area, so did he.

"When they left, I had no reason to be there anymore so I left," he added.

As Beau's video of the encounter racked up thousands of views, many people left comments telling the teenager to ignore the haters and keep protecting the community.

So will he,” she said.

“My fear of upsetting the apple cart died that day.”

Ms Tame was repeatedly abused while she was a student at Hobart’s St Michael’s Collegiate.

She was 15 at the time.

“He’d never seen my true rage towards him, but as he sat in his office chair I pointed a finger at him, I was crying my eyes out, I started yelling and screaming and I told him exactly what I thought of him,” she recounted.

“And I told him I thought - I thought he was pure evil, and that I hoped he died, and I pointed to a picture of his own children who were twice my age at the time, and I told him I hated him for what he had done to me.

“Whenever I think I can’t do something I remember this day - and I was terrified when I did this - but this is what I draw on when I need self-belief.”

Since her abuser’s conviction, Ms Tame has campaigned for the way sexual assault is dealt with to be changed, and told Wednesday’s audience that legal restrictions preventing victims from sharing their stories contributed to an “ecosystem of abuse”.

“It’s so messed up how society has all these layers of victim-blaming entrenched, codified at every level,” she said.

Grace Tame opened up about how she confronted her abuser at Adelaide Writers’ Week. This is what happened. These were the circumstances and then we also have the skillset to then ask for help - the appropriate help - but that’s certainly not what I had.”

Ms Tame also shared more details about a “threatening” phone call she received last year asking her to refrain from saying anything negative about Prime Minister Scott Morrison.

She first mentioned the phone call at the National Press Club last month, alleging a senior member of a government-funded organisation was the one who called her.

On Wednesday, she elaborated on the incident and said “it wasn’t an empty threat”.

“I didn’t share this at the National Press Club but do you know what the threat was, from that person who phoned me? It was that they wouldn’t support the [Grace Tame] Foundation if I said something about the Prime Minister,” she said.

Following her Press Club address, Women’s Safety Minister Anne Ruston said the federal government had begun an investigation into Ms Tame’s allegation.

Image: Roy Vandervegt / Adelaide Festival

Carrie Bickmore defends her fiery confrontation on The Project

Image: Channel 10

Carrie Bickmore has opened up about fiery clash with Peter Van Onselen after he called Grace Tame 'immature' for not smiling when greeting the prime minister.

Van Onselen criticised Grace in a scathing opinion piece after she gave Scott Morrison a handshake and scowl when she arrived at The Lodge in Canberra to mark the end of her period as Australian of the Year.

Van Onselen hosted Channel 10's The Project later that night before he was berated by journalist Amy Remeikis and his co-host Bickmore, who claimed Ms Tame should not be forced to smile because of etiquette.

Carrie claimed the criticism was a distraction from the serious conversation about ending violence against women and children.

Explaining that she had lost faith in the government's ability to bring about the necessary change and said disruptive women like Remeikis and Ms Tame, who was labelled 'rude' and 'childish', were her last hope.

Remeikis admitted the televised confrontation with Van Onselen had left her shaken and that she was unable to watch footage from the night.

'I was a bit shaken afterwards,' she said. 'I'm not good at confrontations. I was a bit overwhelmed by the response.'

The journalist agreed with Bickmore's sentiment that change would come from the grassroots level.

'I don't think it's going to come from the government, or leaders in general,' she said.

'I think it comes from the groundswell from people saying, enough is enough.'

Amy said the debate about Ms Tame's behaviour distracted commentators from the serious issue of violence against women. 'I think it's about time we stopped having all the silly side discussions and actually got to the root of this which, I think, (is) men actually stepping up and doing something in this space,' she said.

Van Onselen called the sexual abuse survivor 'ungracious, rude and childish', and suggested she should have stayed home.

Bickmore and Remeikis, who is a sexual assault survivor herself, took issue with his comments and questioned why Tame needed to act a certain way.

'Your column today, devastating to so many people,' Remeikis said.

'Women constantly have to come out and talk about their trauma... talk about not being taken seriously, scream the roof down get to the point where I'm almost crying on national television to talk about this.

'We're constantly being told how we should act, who we should think about and who perhaps should be seen in our place.'

Bickmore then asked van Onselen why he felt he needed to tell Tame to act in a certain way and to smile during a 'catastrophe'.

'I didn't think she should smile and pretend it's OK, I just thought she shouldn't go, if you can't be polite in some form, I think just don't go,' he said, adding he applauded everything Tame had done for survivors of sexual assault.

The Project panellist then asked why should Tame be silenced and not able to attend the morning tea to which van Onselen said 'if you can't show basic courtesy I think it's immature'.

You spoke about how she acted as a child, you know when she should have been able to act as a child? When she was a child. But she was preyed upon by a man and lost part of herself in that,' Bickmore fired back.

'I'm unsure how that article today helps when I'm assuming, like the entire nation, you want violence against women and children to end?'

The commentator responded saying he had been the victim of an attempted sexual assault and understood the importance of the conversation around sexual abuse.

'But I just think if you can't be polite to the prime minister of the country, I get it, I said in the article, I get it if she can't be polite to him, but then just don't go,' van Onselen said.

Remeikis asked why Tame and other sexual abuse survivors should have to 'be polite'.

'I don't think she should. I don't think she should stand there and smile, I just think she shouldn't go if you can't show basic courtesies to the prime minister,' the panellist responded.

'But you wrote an entire column saying she was being childish because she showed her authentic feelings,' Remeikis hit back.

In the aftermath of the tense interview, Twitter erupted with many rushing to support Bickmore and Remeikis.

'Hello NSW Police? I'd like to report a murder live on TV. PVO absolutely destroyed on The Project by Amy Remeikis. Long may it continue,' one tweeted.

'This is the best thing that has ever been on The Project. Thank you Amy Remeikis for being so eloquent and fierce. Thank you Carrie Bickmore for your honest and strong comments,' said another.

'Unbelievably powerful. Thankyou. Van Onselen. Be better. Waiting to speak is not a conversation,' wrote one.

Tame, 27, was awarded Australian of the Year for leading a campaign for a legal change that allowed sex abuse survivors to speak out, she had been groomed and molested as a schoolgirl by one of her teachers.

Tame has been open about her opinion on the Morrison government and Tuesday's morning tea wasn't the first awkward encounter she's shared with the PM.

Having given a speech at last year's Australian of the Year ceremony, she was surprised by the Mr Morrison's reaction and went public with it.

'Do you know what he said to me, right after I finished that speech and we're in front of a wall of media?' the Tasmanian later told a podcast.

'I s**t you not, he leaned over and right in my ear he goes, ''Well, gee, I bet it felt good to get that out''.'

Soon afterward, Tame took up the cause of Brittany Higgins, a former Liberal Party staffer who said she was sexually assaulted inside Parliament House and accused the Morrison government of covering it up.

When Mr Morrison later apologised to Ms Higgins for her experiences, citing advice from his wife and consideration of his own children, Tame hit out at him and said 'it shouldn't take having children to have a conscience'.

Neighbour sends confronting note about a nearby home’s exterior

A neighbour has been left feeling shocked after they received a scathing note that details how they have been letting down their street.

The author of the letter, who is new to the neighbourhood, has detailed all the ways that the house needs to be renovated to keep up appearances.

The letter was posted on Reddit, and reads, “Dear neighbour. Just thought I'd drop a line to ask you to do something with your house.

"We recently moved in and are down the corner from you, and yes the front yards are very small, and the landscaping is very minimal, it's easy to clean, plain, fixup and garden these homes, especially in the front.”

The letter goes on to detail how the author’s family nominated the house as “the worst on both sides of the block”, as they tell their children “that’s where the lazy’s live.”

The letter goes on to rattle off a list of things they expect to be done to their neighbour’s house, including having the house painted, lawn mowed, weeds removed and “showing some initiative.”

The author even wonders if the residents “have absolutely no pride”, as they insist they “do something with the front of that s*** hole.”

The Reddit post welcomed a flood of comments from sympathisers, saying the author’s request is uncalled for and unfair.

While some users shared their own experiences with nightmare neighbours, many people told the recipient of the letter to simply adorn their front lawn with “plastic flamingos and lawn gnomes”.

Another thought it was a good idea, adding, "Flamingos might be too tame. I think it's time to invest in a modest display of giant lawn gnomes in raunchy poses."

Image credits: Getty Images / Reddit
