Olivia Newton-John’s daughter shares never seen before footage

Olivia Newton-John's daughter has shared a beautiful behind-the-scenes video of a duet she did with her mother.

Chloe Rose Lattanzi shared the video to Instagram of her and her mum singing Window In The Wall at Olivia’s home studio.

The 36-year-old could be seen smiling at her mother as the pair hugged, smiled and began to sing the beautiful song.

“You are my lighthouse mama. My safe place. My heart space. It has been my honor and continues to be my honor to be your baby and best friend,” Chloe wrote.

“You are an angel on earth and everyone touched by you has been blessed. I love you forever my life giver, my teacher, my mama.”

The song was released in January 2021 and at the time Olivia knew it was one that she wanted to sing with her daughter.

“I’ve always enjoyed singing duets more than singing on my own, and when I first heard this song, I knew immediately that I wanted to sing it with my daughter Chloe,” she previously said.

“The lyrics and melody really resonated with me, and I hoped Chloe would feel the same way – and luckily, she did!”

Chloe at the time also knew it was a song she wanted to perform with her mother when she played it for her.

“When my mom played the song for me I knew I wanted to record it, not only because it was with my mom but, I felt the lyrics and message might help people see things from another perspective,” Chloe said.

“We are all part of the same human race and if we listen to each other, respect each other and love each other - for both our likenesses and our differences - we might just understand each other a lot more.”
<blockquote class="instagram-media" style="background: #FFF; Sour note as The Voice winner crowned

Fans of The Voice were up in arms over the finale on Sunday night, with the spotlight steering focus away from the winner.

As is finale tradition on the singing competition, the final four artists took part in a live duet with their superstar coaches.

Most fans loved the cross-over of talent, but one duet left fans feeling frustrated.

Fan favourite Mick Harrington took to the stage with his coach Jessica Mauboy to perform a duet of the 1982 hit track Solid Rock by Goanna.

Some viewers were left scratching their heads and they felt Jessica "virtually shut out" Mick.

Many fans took to Twitter to express their outrage and found they were not alone in their thinking.

One fan said, 'Shouldn't these duets be showcasing the contestants and not the 'coach' singing like 90%.'

Another Twitter user agreed saying, "Too bad Jess sung over the top and virtually shut him out of the song."

A third person wrote, "Why does Jess always need to make the choices be about her? This is about the contestant and not about you!"

Other fans also argued that the wind machine used for powerful visuals overpowered Mick's delicate voice.

One fan said, "Be great if we could hear their voices, this being the voice and all."

While there was an online slew of negative comments, there were a fair share of fans that thought the duet performance "ticked every box", while another person said it was possibly the best performance in the show's history.

Despite the love online for Mick Harrington, the powerhouse voice of Bella Taylor Smith took out the 2021 crown.

The newly crowned winner shared a special moment with her coach Guy Sebastian after she won, with her mentor saying, “You are special Bella. Go out there and kill it, I know you will.”

Check out the video of the powerhouse duet below:

‘Muting’ your singing partner could be the reason duets work

Singing duos require a certain level of musical chemistry, and a recent study has confirmed it.

By analysing the brain patterns of Ecuadorian plain-tailed wrens as they sang, the researchers found that each singer mutes the song-making areas of their partner’s brain as they take turns singing.

The study, published in Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, saw researchers studying the brain activity of male and female wrens singing individually and in pairs.

They said the motor circuits used for singing are temporarily inhibited in the listening partner, which helps connect the pair’s brains and coordinate turn-taking so it sounds like only one bird is singing.

Using our senses to take turns

The study has also provided a new insight into how humans and other cooperative animals use sensory cues to coordinate with each other.

Eric Fortune, co-author of the study and neurobiologist at New Jersey Institute of Technology’s Department of Biological Sciences, said that timing is everything for these sorts of performances.

“What these wrens have shown us is that for any good collaboration, partners need to become ‘one’ through sensory linkages,” he said. “The take-home message is that when we are cooperating well … we become a single entity with our partners.”

“Think of these birds like jazz singers,” said corresponding author and associate professor of biology at Scripps College Melissa Coleman. “Duetting wrens have a rough song structure planned before they sing, but as the song evolves, they must rapidly coordinate by receiving constant input from their counterpart.”

Though the team expected the birds would have specialised neurons to coordinate this turn-taking, they were surprised to discover that listening to their partner is what prevents them from singing over the top.

When looking at the brain activity of birds as they sang, the neurons responsible for learning and making music would rapidly fire. But when listening to their partner, their neurons became much less active.

“You can think of inhibition as acting like a trampoline,” Fortune explained. “When the birds hear their partner, the neurons are inhibited, but just like rebounding off a trampoline, the release from that inhibition causes them to swiftly respond when it’s their time to sing.”

What this means for humans

Though we might not experience the same kinds of inhibition as the plain-tailed wren, poor internet connections during video conferencing or the loss of reception during a phone call affect the sensory information we use to coordinate our conversations with other people and avoid interrupting, speaking over someone, and other conversational pitfalls.

“I think this study is important for understanding how we interact with the world whenever we are trying to produce a single behaviour as two performers,” Coleman said.

“We are wired for cooperation, the same way as these jazz singing wrens.”

Image: Getty Images

Paul McCartney releases new video for Michael Jackson duet “Say Say Say”

A new video remix has been released for the 1983 Paul McCartney and Michael Jackson track, “Say Say Say”. The video has been released in promotion of McCartney’s Pipes of Peace album remaster.

The black and white video was directed and choreographed by Ryan Heffington, who worked with singer Lady Gaga previously and is available exclusively on Facebook.

In a promotional press release, McCartney reminisced about a call from Michael Jackson.

“[Michael] rang me up, and I didn’t believe it was him, so I said 'who’s this?' He said ‘Michael’. ‘Are you sure… Michael who?!’" McCartney says. "Anyway, we had a joke about that kind of thing, and he said, ‘yeah, I’d like to come over and write with you,’ so I said great. So he came over to England and we just sat down."

See the original video below.

Related links:

The 5 best Stevie Ray Vaughan songs of all time

Catchy songs to beat the Monday blues

10 songs from the 70s you need to revisit now
