Radio host at the centre of fatal royal prank sues network

<p>More than a decade after a prank call to a London hospital triggered international outrage and tragedy, Australian radio presenter Michael Christian is suing Southern Cross Austereo (SCA), claiming the broadcaster failed to protect and support him in the aftermath.</p> <p>Christian was co-hosting 2Day FM’s breakfast show alongside Mel Greig in December 2012 when the pair placed an on-air prank call to King Edward VII Hospital, where the then-Duchess of Cambridge, Kate Middleton, was being treated for severe morning sickness.</p> <p>Christian, who had only been on the job for two days, claims in a newly filed federal court lawsuit that he and Greig were instructed by the show's production team to impersonate King Charles and Queen Elizabeth II to extract medical information.</p> <p>The call was answered by nurse Jacintha Saldanha, who transferred the hoax call through to the Duchess’ attending nurse. Days later, Saldanha was found dead, having taken her own life. In a note left behind, she blamed the radio stunt and the hospital’s handling of the situation for her death.</p> <p>The incident sparked a global media storm, intense public criticism and death threats directed at the hosts. Christian’s lawsuit alleges that SCA did little to shield them from the backlash.</p> <p>According to the court documents, Christian was assured by the company that if any broadcast content crossed a line, SCA would “step in”.</p> <p>His legal team claims that promise was broken: “The radio presenters were left by SCA as the convenient fall guys and scapegoats for SCA management decisions and non-compliance”.</p> <p>Christian also alleges the prank violated the Australian Communication and Media Authority code of practice. The documents state that the reason for the long delay in taking legal action was SCA’s promise to restore Christian’s reputation and help rebuild his career – a promise he claims was never fulfilled.</p> <p>His lawyers argue that the broadcaster failed to provide “meaningful health support”, initiate a public relations campaign to repair his public image, or offer career advancement or financial recognition for his continued loyalty.</p> <p>The situation escalated earlier this year when Christian was made redundant by the company in February. He contends the redundancy was not genuine, stating, “SCA still requires (his) former role to be performed”.</p> <p>Now, Christian is seeking financial compensation, damages, and penalties for what he describes as SCA’s negligence and breach of duty.</p> <p>Southern Cross Austereo has not yet filed a defence but issued a brief public statement: “As the matter is currently before the courts, and out of respect for the legal process and the privacy of those involved, it would be inappropriate for us to comment at this time.”</p> <p>A court date is yet to be set.</p> <p><em>Image: Supplied</em></p>

<p>Australia’s sporting community is in mourning following the unexpected death of Olympian and former baseball superstar Adam Burton, who passed away on Monday at the age of 53.</p> <p>Known affectionately as “Hollywood” or “Burto”, Burton’s impact on and off the field spanned decades, from representing Australia at the 2000 Sydney Olympics to shaping the grassroots game across countless local clubs.</p> <p>Burton’s career began with extraordinary promise. A prodigious talent from Melbourne’s southeast, he came through the ranks at Waverley Baseball Club before earning a professional contract with Major League Baseball's Baltimore Orioles as a teenager – a rare feat for an Australian player at the time. Though injuries and circumstance curtailed his American journey, he would later sign with the Atlanta Braves before returning to dominate the Australian Baseball League (ABL).</p> <p>Waverley Baseball Club, where Burton first made his mark, said they were “shattered” by the loss of “one of the finest players to represent them and Australia”.</p> <p>“Adam carried the moniker ‘Hollywood’ during an 11-year ABL career that few matched,” the club said in a heartfelt tribute. “He was brash, cocky, entertaining – with a ‘can’t take your eyes off him’ talent. He had style. He had charisma. He would light up a room.”</p> <p>Burton’s career in the ABL was marked by highlight-reel moments and consistent excellence. He played over 330 games and compiled a .312 batting average, with multiple All-Star selections. He was instrumental in Waverley’s 1995 championship, and in one of the league’s most remarkable seasons, he led the Melbourne Reds from last place to champions with a league-best .388 average, 21 home runs and 18 stolen bases.</p> <p>“Adam Burton was a guy who could put the team on his shoulders without feeling the burden,” Waverley’s statement continued.</p> <p>While an ankle injury hampered his performance during the 2000 Olympics, his selection and presence on Australia’s national team only cemented his legacy in the sport. He also represented Australia in the Baseball World Cup, the Intercontinental Cup and the World Youth Series.</p> <p>Beyond his professional accolades, Burton remained deeply connected to the local game, coaching and playing with unwavering passion at clubs such as Blackburn, Melbourne, Preston and Watsonia.</p> <p>Baseball Victoria paid tribute to his enduring love for the game: “Adam will always be remembered for his unwavering love of the game and infectious personality. He was a beloved member of the Victorian baseball community and will be truly missed.”</p> <p>Burton’s coaching achievements in later years were as impactful as his playing career. In 2017-18, he led Preston Pirates to a VSBL Division 2 Premiership, and just last year, he played a key role in Watsonia’s A Grade Grand Final campaign.</p> <p>Watsonia Baseball Club described him as a figure who “clearly impacted all he met,” while Blackburn Baseball Club remembered him as both a “genius” and a mentor to the next generation of players.</p> <p>“Behind the cheeky smile, was a baseball genius and gifted teacher of the game,” said Blackburn’s statement. “We consider ourselves incredibly lucky to have had Adam as a member of our club… one of the all-time greats.”</p> <p>As tributes continue to pour in from across the country, the deep shock and sorrow of his passing is shared by teammates, friends, fans and especially the many young players who looked up to him as a hero.</p> <p>Adam Burton is survived by his children, Cienna and Brock.</p> <p><em>Images: Instagram</em></p>

Lauren Zonfrillo speaks on husband Jock’s sudden death

<p>In a moment that has resonated with grief across Australia and beyond, Lauren Zonfrillo has spoken publicly for the first time about the devastating loss of her husband, celebrated chef and <em>MasterChef Australia </em>judge Jock Zonfrillo.</p> <p>Zonfrillo, just 46 years old, was found dead in a Melbourne hotel room in May 2023. The suddenness of his passing left his family shattered – his wife Lauren and their two young children were on the other side of the world in Italy when they received the unimaginable news.</p> <p>Since then, many questions have lingered, especially around the cause of his death. But Lauren has now made it clear: those details will remain private.</p> <p>Speaking in an emotional interview with Liz Hayes for <em>7NEWS Spotlight</em>, Lauren shared how she and the coroner agreed not to make Jock’s cause of death public – a decision made out of respect, protection and love.</p> <p>“We spoke to the coroner multiple times because the inquest took a while,” she said. “It was just sort of agreed that for the privacy and safety of our family... that it wouldn’t be in the public’s best interest or our best interest, and that was determined well before the report was finalised.”</p> <p>In Victoria, coronial findings are not always made public, and discretion can be used if deemed to be in the public interest. Earlier this year, it was confirmed that the investigation into Zonfrillo’s death was concluded in August 2024, with no report to be released.</p> <p>While some sources close to the family have said the beloved chef died of natural causes, Lauren said it was her desire to shield her family from further public scrutiny – and to preserve some part of the man who, to them, was far more than a television personality.</p> <p>“Up until Jock’s death, yes, he was a public figure,” she said. “But, since we lost Jock, I’d been trying to reclaim some of his privacy… to give him some peace as much as I can. "He was just a genius": Shock after former AFL star dies at just 42

<p>Former AFL player Andrew Krakouer has passed away at the age of 42, prompting an outpouring of grief from former teammates, coaches and the broader football community.</p> <p>Krakouer, who played for Richmond and Collingwood, reportedly suffered a suspected heart attack at a family home in Perth on Sunday. His sudden passing has left many in shock, especially those who played alongside him during his impressive AFL career.</p> <p>Having played 102 games for the Tigers, Krakouer made a remarkable return to elite football after a personal setback, going on to play 35 matches for the Magpies. He was a key player in Collingwood’s 2011 grand final against Geelong, where he kicked three goals.</p> <p>Before his Collingwood stint, Krakouer dominated in the WAFL, winning the Sandover Medal in 2010 and delivering a best-on-ground performance in Swan Districts' premiership victory. His 42-disposal, four-goal effort in that grand final remains one of the greatest individual displays in WAFL history.</p> <p>Bouncing back from time in prison, Krakouer was recruited by Collingwood ahead of the 2011 season. He made an instant impact, scoring 35 goals across 23 games and winning Mark of the Year for his spectacular high-flying grab. However, his career was hampered by an ACL injury in early 2012. Despite this setback, he made a strong return later that year, featuring in three finals and kicking four goals in the qualifying final against Port Adelaide.</p> <p>Following a limited 2013 season, he was delisted but continued to be involved in football through media roles. He appeared on the <em>Marngrook Footy Show</em> and later co-hosted <em>Yokayi Footy</em>, also contributing as a commentator on both TV and radio.</p> <p>Tributes have poured in from former teammates and coaches across the country, commemorating Krakouer’s talent and character.</p> <p>“Rest in peace Andrew Krakouer. A beautiful man who was loved by all his teammates. Always greeted you with a hug and a smile. Love to Jimmy and Andrew’s daughters and all his family. Very sad day,” said Richmond great Matthew Richardson.</p> <p>Fellow ex-Tiger and former club CEO Brendon Gale also expressed his sorrow. “So saddened by the tragic and unexpected passing of Andrew Krakouer. Krak was a special talent — but more than that, he was a deeply loved husband, father, son, teammate, and friend. My condolences are with the Krakouer family and all who loved him. Rest easy Krak.”</p> <p>Collingwood’s former coach Nathan Buckley was visibly shaken upon hearing the news while live on radio. “That’s really sad news. That’s tragic, so young at 42,” Buckley said on SEN. “A really calm, quiet teammate, who was respectful and went about his business. I really enjoyed the years with him, that’s really sad for his family and his mates.”</p> <p>Buckley also paid tribute to Krakouer’s footballing prowess, particularly his ability to produce spectacular moments on the field. “We’d get him in whenever we could,” Buckley recalled. “He was just a genius. He was just a player who could do the special things. The hanger he took in 2011 (to win Mark of the Year) was elite.</p> <p>“He just loved the game, found a way to impact, and could do things that other players couldn’t do. He was exceptional.”</p> <p>Krakouer came from a legendary footballing family. His father, Jim, and uncle, Phil, were WAFL and North Melbourne stars in the 1980s, while his cousin, Nathan, played for Port Adelaide and Gold Coast.</p> <p>AFL chief executive Andrew Dillon also extended condolences. “We send our sincere condolences to Andrew’s family and many friends across football,” Dillon said. “To lose him at such an early age is a tragedy, and we hope there can be some peace for his family in this heart-breaking and difficult time.</p> <p>“To all his past teammates at Richmond, Collingwood, the team at AFL media, and all Indigenous players and staff across the industry, our thoughts are with you all.”</p> <p>Krakouer’s impact on the game and his ability to inspire others will not soon be forgotten.</p> <p><em>Images: Instagram</em></p>

Shock as Michael Hill CEO dies suddenly

<p>The CEO of global jewellery company Michael Hill International Limited has passed away suddenly at the age of 57.</p> <p>The company announced in an emotional statement that Daniel Bracken had died earlier this week after suffering an adverse reaction to medical treatment for an underlying condition.</p> <p>"The board, executive and all of the Michael Hill team express their deepest and sincerest condolences to his family and friends," the company said in a release.</p> <p>"On behalf of the board, we thank Daniel for his outstanding leadership and dedication to the Michael Hill Group and our people over the past seven years. He will be dearly missed."</p> <p>The release said Bracken, who had been CEO of the company since 2018, was a "passionate retailer" and an "innovative and strategic thinker", and credited him with transforming the Michael Hill Group as an "inspiring leader".</p> <p>Michael Hill was founded by Sir Michael Hill in 1979 when he opened his first jewellery store in Whangarei, New Zealand.</p> <p>The group currently has 300 stores globally across Australia, New Zealand, and Canada.</p> <p><em>Image credits: Nine</em></p>

"Disgusting": Radio host slammed over women's sports comments

<p>Triple M host Marty Sheargold has been slammed online for comments he made on-air about the Matildas and women's sport, with many calling him "disgusting" and "a f**king joke". </p> <p>When the Triple M program and podcast, <em>The Marty Sheargold Show</em>, began discussing the Matildas performance in the annual SheBelieves Cup along in the US along with Japan, Colombia and the host nation.</p> <p>During their discussion of the competition, Sheargold used the opportunity to rip into the world of women's sport, leaving the radio station flooded with complaints. </p> <p>The conversation between Sheargold and co-hosts Troy Ellis and Will Ralson began with Ralston mentioning the tournament to date, as he said, “In football or soccer it’s been a nightmare tournament for the Matildas over the last three or four days over in the US,” referencing the Tillies' defeat to Japan. </p> <p>Sheargold immediately jumped in with the following rant, including downplaying the Matildas’ semi-final appearance at the 2023 FIFA World Cup on home soil.</p> <p>“There’s something wrong with the Matildas,” Sheargold began. “They had that wonderful tournament out here where we all fell in love with them, even though they didn’t make the quarters."</p> <p>“You know what they remind me of? Year 10 girls,” Sheargold continued, as laughter rang out in the background.</p> <p>“All the infighting and all the friendship issues, ‘the coach hates me and I hate bloody training and Michelle’s being a b***h’. Now I’m sorry to undermine the whole sport, but that’s what I think of it so you can stick it up your arse.”</p> <p>Ralston then tried to continue with the sports news bulletin, stating: “So we’re playing in the SheBelieves Cup.”</p> <p>Sheargold jumped in, screaming “Oh, she believes in what? It better be men” as more laughter rang out in the studio. </p> <p>“We’re 12 months out from Australia hosting the Women’s Asian Cup, so hopefully we have a better runway to improve before that comes around,” Ralston said as he tried to continue the sports report. </p> <p>Sheargold responded: “Oh god. The Asian Cup. I’d rather hammer a nail through the head of my penis than watch that,” as a sound affect and more laughs were heard, before he added, “Got any men’s sport?”</p> <p>Ralston replied: “Yeah I do, baseball, the New York Yankees have dropped their 49-year ban on beards, on facial hair,” as Sheargold was quick to comment, “Now this is a good story.”</p> <p>The sexist exchange came to light after Olympic hockey player Ambrosia Malone posted part of the on-air clip on TikTok with the caption: “I honestly don’t know what is wrong with the world."</p> <p>“I heard this on the radio yesterday in prime time (5.30pm) on the way to training and all I could think about was the young girls sitting in the car with their parents, maybe on the way to or from their own training sessions hearing this."</p> <p>“I’m sure many of them would have been hurt and confused … I was in disbelief. This is apparently acceptable on mainstream afternoon radio??? HOW??”</p> <p>Many were quick to share their outrage in the comments section, with one person writing, “Is this a f**king joke?!? I feel like I’m living in a simulation. That cannot be a real recording.”</p> <p>Another added, “Disgusting. Can’t believe they think this is OK to air,” while someone else simply called Sheargold an "awful human."</p> <p>In response to the backlash, an SCA spokesperson said, “Marty Sheargold’s comments regarding the Matildas - made during Triple M Drive on Monday, 24 February - do not align with Triple M's views and values, and Triple M remains steadfast in its strong support of all women's and men's sports. We are sorry for any offence caused.”</p> <p>Marty Sheargold also responded to the controversy, saying in a statement, "Any comedy, including mine, can miss the mark sometimes, and I can see why people may have taken offence to my comments regarding the Matildas. In 2019, it was nominated for four Australian Commercial Radio Awards, including Best Talk Presenter and Best Current Affairs Presenter for Bona, Best Show Producer – Talk/Current Affairs, and the prestigious Brian White Award for Radio Journalism.</p> <p>The cancellation of The Night Shift comes amid a wave of programming cuts at Triple M. The network recently axed The Rush Hour with Gus Worland, Jude Bolton and Aaron Woods, as well as Mark Geyer and Mick Molloy’s breakfast show. Beloved radio star dies one week after retiring

<p>Melbourne radio host Philip Brady OAM has died at the age of 85, just one week after he announced he was retiring from radio after nearly 67 years. </p> <p>The 3AW star was diagnosed with cancer on December 5, sharing his diagnosis with close friends and keeping it private from the public. </p> <p>On Tuesday morning, 3AW host Tom Elliott announced Brady's passing and revealed he had been informed of his cancer diagnosis late last year.</p> <p>“Very early this morning, Philip Brady died." </p> <p>“He said he was riddled with cancer and didn’t expect to last too long, so for me, this isn’t a surprise,” he said.</p> <p>“But it is very sad because I don’t think we’ll see the likes of Philip Brady again.”</p> <p>Brady's career 3AW began in the 1970s where he was the weekend music man and in 1990  he began hosting <em>Remember When</em> with Bruce Mansfield.</p> <p>He hosted his final episode of the <em>Remember When </em>radio show on 3AW on January 12, before announcing his retirement from the network on February 2. </p> <p>3AW station manager Stephen Beers has paid tribute to Brady, saying that he was a “great friend to many, truly loving his work on air and helping so many listeners and colleagues with advice, companionship and friendship”.</p> <p>“Phil will be greatly missed by all at 3AW,” he added.</p> <p><em>Image: 3AW</em></p>

We spoke to the principal, and the teacher didn't even give me the time of day."</p> <p>Henderson was shocked by the mother’s admission.</p> <p>“Oh my god, as a mum, I can only imagine what you thought,” she said.</p> <p>“It is disgusting that they didn’t do anything for you.”</p> <p>“She would go from a beautiful 13-year-old girl to nothing,” the devastated mum said.</p> <p>Meanwhile, Sandilands backed the mother, “You did what you’re supposed to do, you protected your child”.</p> <p>Sandilands then took aim at the eSafety Commissioner who he claimed KIIS FM had invited on air to discuss bullying, saying, “The e-commissioner will not come on and talk to us about it, that’s her only job.”</p> <p>Speaking to <em>7News</em> after the incident, the woman admitted her actions were wrong, but insisted she was standing up for her daughter.</p> <p>“I don’t want my daughter to be another statistic. I don’t want to have to bury my child,” the mother said.</p> <p>“She was crying, she was devastated that this child told her to go and hang herself."</p> <p>“That is a breaking point for any parent … I went into survival mode, and protective mode. Radio host reveals "ridiculous" amount he was offered for I'm a Celeb

<p>Beau Ryan has revealed the "ridiculous" amount of money he was offered to appear on <em>I'm a Celebrity... Get Me out of Here!</em></p> <p>The radio presenter and former NRL player has appeared on a plethora of reality TV programs since retiring from NRL in 2014, including <em>Dancing with the Stars</em>, <em>Top Gear Australia</em>, <em>Gladiators</em> and <em>The Amazing Race.</em></p> <p>While speaking with <em><a href="https://www.news.com.au/entertainment/tv/radio/beau-ryan-offered-ridiculous-amount-for-tv-show/news-story/9726320fdc4af29266cb5ca462c8ce59" target="_blank" rel="noopener">news.com.au</a> </em>to promote his new radio gig on Triple M, the 39-year-old opened up about his showbiz career and revealed he actually turned down his most lucrative offer.</p> <p>“I got asked to do the first six (seasons) of <em>I’m a Celeb</em>,” Ryan said. “The money for the second season, it was more than I’ve ever seen.”</p> <p>Ryan admitted that the offer, which was worth more than $500,000, came at a time when Network 10 was keen to attract big names for the relatively unknown show in its early seasons.</p> <p>“The money was big … because everyone didn’t know how the show was going to pan out,” he said. “Back then it was a lot more money and it was a ridiculous amount.”</p> <p>He revealed that he turned down the offer because he was contracted to work with Nine at the time, and it wasn't until 2022 that he jumped ship to Network Ten that he agreed to appear on the show for far less money.</p> <p>“I said (to Ten), ‘do you still have that offer from 2015 or 16?’ and they said, ‘no, we don’t,’” he laughed.</p> <p>Ryan was in the jungle for two weeks, quitting the show with just a few days to go because he was “mentally cooked and physically drained”.</p> <p>Beau also candidly shared that he’s rejected a number of other TV offers over the years, including <em>Celebrity Apprentice</em>,<em> The Masked Singer</em> and <em>SAS Australia</em>.</p> <p>“My kids love <em>The Masked Singer</em> … and were filthy when I said no to that,” Ryan laughed. “(But) I couldn’t do it because of timing and because I can’t sing.”</p> <p><em>Image credits: Ten / Instagram </em></p>

Coroner makes bombshell ruling over Jock Zonfrillo's death

<p>A 16-month investigation into Jock Zonfrillo's death has come to an end, with the coroner making a shocking decision about the celebrity chef's cause of death. </p> <p>The coroner has decided not to publicly reveal the MasterChef judge's cause of death, which will now likely remain secret unless his family wish to disclose the information. </p> <p>Zonfrillo's body was found in a hotel room in Melbourne at about 2am on May 1st 2023 after police were called to conduct a welfare check on the 46-year-old.</p> <p>There was widespread speculation about the cause of Zonfrillo's sudden death due to his well-publicised history of drug abuse and mental health struggles.</p> <p>A spokeswoman for Victoria's Coroners Court told <em><a href="https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-14357311/jock-zonfrillo-masterchef-coronial-investigation.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Daily Mail Australia</a></em> the investigation into Zonfrillo's death was completed on August 27th last year. </p> <p>"At the close of the investigation, the coroner determined that the finding would not be published," the spokeswoman said.</p> <p>In the days following Zonfrillo's death,<em> Daily Mail Australia</em> revealed that it was Jock's wife Lauren who made the frantic phone call to police which led them to find her husband's body. </p> <p>She was travelling abroad and had reportedly became concerned about her husband's welfare when Zonfrillo failed to keep to their usual daily schedule of telephone calls.  </p> <p>At the time, a senior Victoria Police source said that officers who attended the hotel found Zonfrillo unresponsive in his bed and saw no obvious signs of anything suspicious or unusual.</p> <p>There was no drug paraphernalia located and no one else in his room, with police at the scene forming the initial view Zonfrillo had died of natural causes.</p> <p><em>Image credits: Getty Images </em></p>

Nova radio star speaks out on "shameful" paparazzi photos

<p><em>Nova </em>radio host Kate Ritchie has issued a public statement on Monday morning announcing that she will be taking a break from the<em> Fitzy and Wippa with Kate Ritchie </em>program to focus on her mental health. </p> <p>The announcement comes days after the<em> Daily Mail </em>published invasive paparazzi photos that showed Ritchie appearing distressed while answering a phone call in a park. </p> <p>In a statement released to Instagram, Ritchie slammed the paparazzi for their "relentless stalking".</p> <p>“The images of me taken last week show that I wasn’t OK on that day. Eagles star announces retirement after shock health diagnosis

<p>Steuart Smith, the lead guitarist of iconic rock band <em>The Eagles</em> has announced his retirement. </p> <p>The 72-year-old musician, who joined the band back in 2001, shared that he would be leaving the band following a shock health diagnosis. </p> <p>"It is with profound regret that, due to performance issues associated with my recently diagnosed Parkinsonism, I find that I must bow out of my role with <em>The Eagle</em>s while I can still do so gracefully," Smith told <em>People</em> magazine. </p> <p>"It's been a great quarter of a century, and I had hoped to be able to finish out this year with the band, but I must now do what’s best for all concerned."</p> <p>According to<em> Parkinsons.org.uk</em>, parkinsonism is "an umbrella term used to cover a range of conditions that share similar symptoms to Parkinson's".</p> <p>Bandmate and founding member of <em>The Eagles, </em>Don Henley, also released a statement praising Smith's talents, adding that the group will "be forever grateful" for his contributions to the band and their tour. </p> <p>“Steuart Smith has retired from touring. <em>The Eagles </em>will be forever grateful for the extraordinary talents that he brought to both our recordings and live performances," he told the publication. </p> <p>"Steuart will be greatly missed, but he will always be a part of our musical family. Cruel scam targets radio star's elderly mum

<p>Radio star Bianca Dye has revealed that her elderly mother was the target of a cruel scam. </p> <p>The <em> i98 </em>radio host told <em>9Honey</em> that her mother, Anne, was at home when she received a series of texts from someone pretending to be her. </p> <p>The first text Anne received claimed that Dye was using a friends phone, before "they sent something about me needing help with an urgent tax bill."</p> <p>At the time, Dye was in Wollongong in NSW hosting the breakfast shift, when her mother received  the <span style="font-family: -apple-system, BlinkMacSystemFont, 'Segoe UI', Roboto, Oxygen, Ubuntu, Cantarell, 'Open Sans', 'Helvetica Neue', sans-serif;">"urgent tax bill"</span><span style="font-family: -apple-system, BlinkMacSystemFont, 'Segoe UI', Roboto, Oxygen, Ubuntu, Cantarell, 'Open Sans', 'Helvetica Neue', sans-serif;"> text requesting $3,000. </span></p> <p>"When parents get older, they don't want to bother you. She didn't want to stress me out," she added, fighting back tears. </p> <p>"But by not contacting me the day it happened and waiting until the next day, she had worked herself up into tears. She didn't sleep a wink."</p> <p>"So she was sending text messages to some stranger."</p> <p>By the time Anne rang her daughter, she was trying to transfer the money, but got the credit card number confused. </p> <p>Fortunately, Dye had a friend check in on her mum, who was able to take Anne to her local branch for help. </p> <p>"They got it all sorted, changed her PIN, no money had been taken out," Dye said. </p> <p>While it was a close call for Dye many Australians, particularly the elderly, are common targets for scammers. </p> <p>Dye hopes to raise awareness of such scams and spoke with cyber security expert Damien Cantelo of Apollo Secure who shared a few safety tips. </p> <p>"Certainly [parents] should take the approach of 'trust no one, assume nothing', because if it's a text message or a call, [scammers] are getting more sophisticated so it's harder to detect," Cantelo said.</p> <p>"A really good tip is to set up a 'safe word'. So you and your family have a word, you just make up a random word.</p> <p>"And if ever there's anything a little bit fishy going on, you can say, 'Oh, hey Bianca, what's the safe word?' And then if you don't have it, then they know to hang up."</p> <p>Dye added that as scams get more intricate, it may be more difficult for older people, especially those who may suffer from memory loss, to detect the scams. </p> <p>"It's a terrifying future for the elderly unless someone tech savvy is living in the house with them," Dye added.</p> <p><em>Image: Bianca Dye/ 9Honey</em></p>

It's the fact that the product is shrinking as the price goes up," they wrote.</p> <p>While Ms Coulston did not claim that all, or even most, of the products had shrunk in size over time, she did mention one popular treat in particular. </p> <p>"There's definitely a lot of discrepancies on here when it comes to things getting smaller, so for example, the Turkish Delights were 55 grams and now they're 50 grams," she said.</p> <p>One commenter spoke for many, though, in pointing out a glaring detail in the most recent shop.</p> <p>"It doesn't seem like a big increase over that period of time. The majority of the increase was over the last two years!" they wrote. John Lennon's son reveals shock health diagnosis

<p>John Lennon's son Julian has shared the news of another cancer diagnosis, just before Christmas. </p> <p>Updating his fans on X (formerly Twitter), the 61-year-old revealed that he recently underwent an operation after his dermatologist identified a cancerous mole on his arm.</p> <p>This is Julian's second battle with skin cancer, after he had a cancerous mole removed from his back in 2020. </p> <p>Lennon said he had gone to see his same dermatologist who "literally saved y life" before he headed to Los Angeles to do a series of radio and TV appearances.</p> <p>After finishing his talk show gig on <em>Good Morning America</em>, the musician said he "received a message from Dr Tess, with some urgency to return to Los Angeles, as I had 2 locations on My Skin, Shoulder &amp; Forearm, one of which was Melanoma, that should be operated on ASAP!"</p> <p>"So instead of going home to put my Christmas tree up and happily finish the year off, relaxing at home, I flew directly back to Los Angeles, after all my work in New York was done, and went directly from LAX airport, to surgery..."</p> <p>The star said the recommended surgeon "spent several hours cleaning up and operating on me, with large margins, in the hope that we have, at the end of the day – clear margins, which would mean being free from cancer."</p> <p>Lennon said the surgery was successful and believed the surgeon "has saved the day".</p> <p>The musician then thanked his dermatologist "for being able to coordinate this surgery at such short notice, but for once again, hopefully saving my life".</p> <p>"Obviously good news, would be the best Christmas present ever… Which I'm hopeful for," he continued.</p> <p>The star then used his recent health scare as an opportunity to remind people to get their skin checked.</p> <p>"I love life and I want to live for a very long time and this is one way, and a choice, that could determine your future," he wrote, signing off by wishing everyone happy holidays.</p> <p><em>Image credits: X/JM HAEDRICH/SIPA/Shutterstock Editorial </em></p>

Former top cop's shocking William Tyrrell call

<p>The former NSW police commissioner has made a sobering call about the future of the William Tyrrell investigation. </p> <p>In an exclusive interview with <em><a href="https://www.news.com.au/national/crime/former-police-commissioner-says-william-tyrrell-case-might-never-be-solved/news-story/e656596fba877ed0af0f10b528f90f3b" target="_blank" rel="noopener">news.com.au</a></em> podcast <em>Witness: William Tyrrell</em>, former police commissioner Mick Fuller said that despite running an "extremely professional investigation”, he was doubtful if the case would ever be solved. </p> <p>“It was never going to be easy to solve and maybe it won’t get solved this time,” he said.</p> <p>“But, you know, people won’t give up … there are new police coming through that will take over this case from (current lead detective) Dave Laidlaw at some stage, and there’ll be another fresh set of eyes there.”</p> <p>William Tyrrell was just three years old when he disappeared from his foster grandmother's home in Kendall, NSW on September 12th 2014. </p> <p>No one has been charged or arrested in connection to his disappearance, and the team investigating the case Strike Force Rosann has recovered no forensic or eye witness evidence to indicate what happened to the child.</p> <p>At the time of Fuller's retirement in 2022, Detective Chief Inspector Mr Laidlaw was brought in to lead a refreshed Strike Force into Tyrrell's disappearance. </p> <p>At the time, Fuller told 2GB the group assembled was “one of the best teams we’ve seen” and was hopeful of a breakthrough in the investigation.</p> <p>Speaking with <em>news.com.au</em>, Mr Fuller said, “I would love to say that this matter was solved before I retired.”</p> <p>“Unfortunately, it wasn’t. Ray Hadley chokes up during final radio show

<p>Ray Hadley has become emotional during his last show on-air, farewelling his loyal 2GB audience for the last time. </p> <p>Hadley was joined by fellow 2GB host Ben Fordham for his final show on Friday, with Fordham surprising Hadley with a tribute to his stellar career. </p> <p>The tribute spanned Hadley’s entire career, from top sporting moments, interviews with Keith Urban, to his children speaking with him on air.</p> <p>“Ray Hadley, this is your life,” Fordham said before it played.</p> <p>However, Hadley became emotional when a snippet of his mother’s voice was played during the segment.</p> <p>“Very emotional. I had heard my mother’s voice previously,” Hadley told listeners, choked up. “I wasn’t gonna get upset. You’ve done this to me you little bludger.”</p> <p>Earlier this week, Hadley spoke with <em><a href="https://honey.nine.com.au/latest/ray-hadley-retires-from-2gb-sydney-radio-interview-exclusive/354a86f1-eeac-49a2-bc04-a91f3f22ff13" target="_blank" rel="noopener">9Honey</a></em> about his <a href="https://www.oversixty.com.au/lifestyle/retirement-life/the-time-has-come-ray-hadley-announces-retirement" target="_blank" rel="noopener">retirement</a>, reflecting on his 43-year career.</p> <p>Hadley admitted he worked brutal hours during his illustrious career, with his dedication leading to what became one of the most impressive runs in radio history in Australia.</p> <p>"I've fought hard for every position I've got and a couple were thrust upon me without fighting for them, but once I got them I realised that it was things I liked doing," he told <em>9Honey</em>.</p> <p>"So yeah, it's been an adventure."</p> <p>"Like every adventure, there's highs and lows. The lows are about as low as you can get, the highs are about as high as you can get, and hopefully most of the time is in the middle somewhere."</p> <p>Hadley said while he's "retiring from full-time radio work" he's "not retiring from life" and with his contract set to run with 2GB until 2026 he is considering his options.</p> <p>"That doesn't mean I won't do something else. What that is, I don't know, because I'm still contracted here. And I'm still committed to this station in many respects ... I've been here for 24 years."</p> <p>"So, you know, there's always a part of me that is willing this station and this network to do well," he said.</p> <p>For now, he's planning to take a three-month break "to clear my head."</p> <p><em>Image credits: 2GB</em></p>
