Where’s the MMM we had back 30 years ago when MMM was the Number 1 radio station in Sydney.”

While no official announcement has been made by Southern Cross Austereo, Geyer has updated his Facebook profile which now reads: Former Locutor at Triple M Sydney 104.9.

According to The Daily Telegraph, an official announcement about the Triple M breakfast show's new lineup would be made "in due course".

Bunnings releases shocking CCTV footage of attacks on staff

Bunnings has shared CCTV footage of violent attacks on staff members, after a watchdog found that the store's facial recognition camera breached privacy laws.

The Office of the Australian Information Commissioner has ruled the retail giant breached privacy laws when it used CCTV-linked facial recognition technology to capture the face of every person who entered 63 stores in NSW and Victoria in the three years to November 2021.

Bunnings is set to appeal the ruling, as they explained the cameras were installed to crackdown on shoplifting and violence towards staff in their stores.

Managing director Mike Schneider said, “FRT was trialled at a limited number of Bunnings stores in Victoria and NSW between 2018-2021, with strict controls around its use, with the sole and clear intent of keeping team members and customers safe and preventing unlawful activity.”

“Our use of FRT was never about convenience or saving money but was all about safeguarding our business and protecting our team, customers, and suppliers from violent, aggressive behaviour, criminal conduct and preventing them from being physically or mentally harmed by these individuals,” Schneider said.

“It was not used in isolation but in combination with various other security measures and tools to deliver a safer store environment.”

The company added that about 70 percent of violent attacks were committed by "the same group of people", as Bunnings shared a compilation of clips of the incidents, showing its staff punched, pushed, grabbed and threatened with firearms, knives and hammers in its stores.

“FRT provided the fastest and most accurate way of identifying these individuals and quickly removing them from our stores.”

In her ruling, Privacy Commissioner Carly Kind acknowledged the potential of the technology to protect against crime and violent behaviour, but determined, “However, any possible benefits need to be weighed against the impact on privacy rights, as well as our collective values as a society.”

“Facial recognition technology may have been an efficient and cost-effective option available to Bunnings at the time in its well-intentioned efforts to address unlawful activity, which included incidents of violence and aggression.

“However, just because a technology may be helpful or convenient, does not mean its use is justifiable.”

The ruling found Bunnings had taken the private information of customers without consent, failed to take steps to notify them and had left gaping holes in its privacy policy.

Commissioner Kind said the technology was an intrusive option that interfered with all customers’ privacy, not just high-risk individuals.

“Individuals who entered the relevant Bunnings stores at the time would not have been aware that facial recognition technology was in use and especially that their sensitive information was being collected, even if briefly,” she said.

The Office of the Australian Information Commissioner said the ruling should be a reminder to businesses about their privacy obligations and has released a privacy guide for companies considering using facial recognition tech.

Kyle Sandilands throws drink at Ben Fordham live on-air

Kyle Sandilands and Ben Fordham have clashed during a live interview.

The radio rivals joined John Laws' on his 2SM show on Wednesday, for one of Laws' final shows before he retires when things got heated.

The trio had been chatting about various topics for 15 minutes when the conversation turned to the US election.

After Sandilands gave his opinion on Trump's strong performance, Fordham sarcastically responded with: “Of all the experts on American politics, what an honour for John Laws to have Kyle Sandilands commenting on it this morning.”

The comment sparked an immediate reaction from the KIIS FM host, who retaliated with: “I’ll throw this water in your face, b***h."

"I don’t care who you think you are.”

“Well go on, do it!” Fordham challenged him.

The 2GB host pushed him over the edge when he said: “You talk tough to the paparazzi …” and was cut off when Sandilands threw a tall glass of water over his face and chest.

“Oh my lord!” a shocked Fordham said.

“There you go,” Sandilands told him. “Don’t push a Brisbane boy.”

Laws seemed rather amused by the chaos, and as Fordham tried to dry himself off, he took another cheeky dig at Sandilands.

“Kyle’s wet too, but that’s perspiration,” he said.

The interview went on for another 15 minutes and towards the end of the chat Laws apologised to Fordham saying: “I’m sorry you’re wet."

“I bet you’ve never said that before,” quipped Sandilands.

To make matters worse for Fordham, the NSW premier, Chris Minns was waiting just outside the studio doors.

“I’ve got all this water all over me, it looks like I’ve wet myself, and now I’m going to go outside and there are VIPs out there,” Fordham said.

“Embarrassing.”

On Thursday morning, the KIIS FM radio host reflected on the on-air clash, claiming that he was the one who invited Fordham to appear with him on Laws' radio show.

“I shouldn’t have invited him, I’ll never invite him anywhere again,” he said.

“He just carried on like a carnival person,” Sandilands continued. “He kept yelling and he kept interfering.”

In response, Fordham reportedly told news.com.au, “Kyle knows he’s boring on his own. That’s why he roped me in to join him.”

Images: 2SM/ news.com.au

"The time has come": Ray Hadley announces retirement

After 43 years on air, Ray Hadley has announced he will be stepping back from his hosting role at 2GB.

Hadley shocked his loyal listeners on Thursday morning, saying his extensive career has been "one hell of a ride".

“It’s been a hell of a ride from a young bloke who wanted to call the races," he said. "But the time has come for someone else to do the job. So December 13 will be my last day broadcasting."

“Apparently the story has broken somewhere. There’s always a leak somewhere, so I may as well do it now, earlier than I anticipated,” he said.

“Sometimes you can’t keep things secret, and I suppose in the media, that’s what happens."

“I’ve achieved far more than I ever thought I would. My children, Dan, Laura, Emma and Sarah, have made sacrifices over the years for me to realise my ambitions."

"Back in September I turned 70, I started to think, how long I've got left on this Earth, and do I want to keep getting up at half past three in the morning, meaning I go to bed early. At social events I'm always the first out the door. I don't want to be the first out the door anymore."

Hadley assured listeners he would not be disappearing completely, clarifying, "I'm not retiring from work. I'm just retiring from full-time radio. I'll bob up somewhere in 2025 but not in a full-time capacity, and certainly not on radio."

Shortly after making the on-air announcement, NSW premier Chris Minns called into the show to share a tribute.

“Ray, you shocked us all. What a massive day in New South Wales radio, and a huge loss for Sydney in particular," Mr Minns said.

“We’re genuinely going to miss you. I’m in shock at the moment. It’s a distinguished career. It’s an incredible legacy. But if I was someone up in one word, I would just say fearless, a broadcasting career that’s been completely fearless, and you’ve never, ever pulled your punches in something that you believe in."

Nova radio star breaks down in heartwarming interview with Kate Winslet

Kate Winslet shared a heartwarming moment live on-air with Kate Ritchie on Nova radio on Wednesday morning.

The Hollywood star appeared on Fitzy and Wippa with Kate Ritchie to promote her new movie, Lee, where Ritchie brought up the star's powerful comments about the scrutiny women in the public eye face.

“I have to say to, I just want to thank you for the conversations that you have about body image," Ritchie said.

“What we do have in common is that we somewhat grew up in the public eye; I grew up on a television show," the former Home and Away actress added.

She then praised Winslet for continually speaking out about “women and young girls, growing up and having people comment about us and pass judgement and feel as though its OK to say certain things. I think we’ve always known that it's not OK."

“But it’s been really hard conversation to have and it’s hard to sometimes stand up and say ‘This does not make me feel good’ and ‘it’s not OK for someone to speak that way’, and someone of your calibre, I hope you know the value of you having these conversations. Because it makes me, and I’m sure millions of other women …” she said while tearing up.

“Oh she’s unravelling in here!” Winslet said in attempt to lighten the mood, as she shared a smile in agreement.

“That’s really very kind,” said Winslet. “I think women are getting better at standing up for each other as well as standing up for ourselves.”

Winslet has been very vocal about women standing up for themselves and has led by example, revealing in another interview that she was forced to defend herself to a crew member while filming the movie.

“There’s a bit where Lee’s sitting on a bench in a bikini and one of the crew came up between takes and said: ‘You might want to sit up straighter.’ So you can’t see my belly rolls? Not on your life! It was deliberate, you know?” she told Harper's Bazaar UK.

Images: Nova

"Inhumane" sign at airport shocks travellers

A sign at a New Zealand airport has sparked outrage among travellers, with the policy controlling people's emotional farewells.

Photos of the sign at Dunedin Airport have gone viral, with the sign reading, "Max. hug time 3 minutes. For fonder farewells please use the car park,” in an attempt to combat airport traffic congestion.

Despite the reasons behind the unusual signage, some users on Facebook slamming the “inhumane” limit on travellers’ allotted time to say goodbye to loved ones.

“You can’t put a time limit on hugs! that’s inhumane,” one person wrote.

Another person chimed in, “I love it. It shows warmth and compassion. My local airport it would be ‘you can’t stop there’ – there’s a £100 fine if you stop and a minimum £5.00 to drop someone off in the drop-off zone. I love Nice airport – they have ‘Kiss and Fly.’”

Others also joined in poking fun at the strange new rule, with one person writing, “I can see the airport worker now … 2:56, 2:57, 2:58, 2:59 OK time to break it up!”

Another joked, “In America, they don’t even want you to stop. Just come to a slow roll and push your passenger out.”

The airport's CEO Daniel De Bono said that it redesigned its drop-off zone to improve safety and congestion around the terminal, telling New Zealand’s RNZ radio the change was made due to space considerations.

He said, “There’s only so much space we have in that drop-off area and too many people are spending too much time on their fonder farewells in the drop-off area. There’s no space for others.”

De Bono then citied a study that suggests a measly 20-second hug is enough to get the oxytocin and serotonin release people get from hugging, saying, “We’re not here to tell people how long they should hug for. It’s more a message of, ‘Please move onwards.’ If you’re going to spend however long, sit in the car park. You get 15 minutes free and it provides space for others who only want a 20-second hug.”

It's hard for me to articulate exactly why I'm leaving," Susie began.

"Turning 50 last year, I realised I'm at a whole new stage in my life. The next chapter will see me pursue other goals, both professionally and personally."

Susie added that she was already contemplating what her next career moves would be, as she reassured listeners that she would stay on the air for another six weeks, with her final show being on November 28th.

"I want to get back to the grassroots of sport and involve myself in the wider community. Radio legend calls it quits

Gus Worland has announced his departure from Triple M after 16 years with the network.

The radio legend shared the news during The Rush Hour show he co-hosts with Jude Bolton each weekday afternoon on 104.9 in Sydney.

"After 16 years, starting back in 2009, I'm leaving Triple M," he said on the show.

He revealed that he would be focusing on his foundation Gotcha4Life, dedicated to teaching Aussies how to manage their mental health, with their Mental Fitness Gym program being rolled out in schools around the country.

"I've decided to focus 100 per cent on Gotcha4Life which, of course, you blokes have been a part of and the station has been very supportive of me being away and doing that work.

"I just feel it's right. It's at the stage now where it really needs critical leadership and critical energy ... just the passion, so forth, that goes behind Gotcha4Life."

In an interview with 9Honey, he revealed that moving on from the show will be difficult.

"Especially when you've done it for more than a few years, you know what I mean? I feel like we've been through the trenches a bit together," he said.

He also spoke about how his gig on Triple M has helped him cope with the intensity of the work he is doing for his foundation.

"To give me the balance of fun and being able to come in here after horrific stories, and then to see everyone and have a laugh and have a cuddle and eat too much sugar," he said.

"I've needed that. I don't know how well I'll go without it, to be honest with you."

But despite the uncertainty, Worland said he felt it was "the right call."

"It's going to take me probably, you know, a few months or maybe a year to work out whether or not I can just do that job without the balance of media, but I'll still do my Wide World of Sports on Channel 9 and I'll do my Weekend Today on Channel 9," he said.

While he has been getting offers from other media organisations, he said that the majority of his energy will be focused on his foundation.

"I've got to be strong in my convictions," he said.

"Gotcha needs me every day, fully focused."

He hopes that one day mental fitness will be a subject in schools.

"We've just started a primary schools program and I want to really focus in on the little ones and making sure that they're learning that it's okay to show their emotions at a young age when a lot of us have our emotions turned off," he said.

"And I will continue to speak to every pollie [politician] and tell me what's a more important subject than mental fitness."

Worland will stay on the show until the end of the year, ahead of his replacement being announced.

Images: Triple M/ The Rush Hour/ Instagram

"In shock ever since": Aussie TV legend opens up on divorce

Noni Hazelhurst has opened up about her high-profile divorce from actor John Jarratt in 1999, admitting she has "been in shock ever since" the relationship split.

The former Play School host, 71, wrote candidly about her former husband in her new memoir Dropping The Mask, sharing the real reason they called off their marriage.

Hazelhurst and Jarratt were married for 12 years, from 1987 until 1999, and share two sons together, Charlie, 36, and William, 30.

The couple even co-hosted Better Homes and Gardens together, but sadly, the show wound up playing a role in their divorce.

“John and I had some wonderful times together – and then we didn’t," Hazlehurst told Woman’s Day in a new interview.

“That’s true of many relationships. They start off full of hope and optimism and, along the way, buried issues come to the surface.”

Noni went on to say their relationship started to end when John grew closer to a member of the Better Homes crew, saying “At that moment, I knew the marriage was over.”

“We simply wanted different things. I wanted a family. John wanted another woman… The ending of my previous relationships had been hard enough, but this was far worse. In some ways, I think I’ve been in shock ever since.”

Despite the divorce, Hazlehurst insisted she had no hard feelings toward her ex, saying, “The end result of our marriage was two beautiful children. Whatever happened can’t negate the joy they’ve brought me.”

"Time for a rest": John Laws retires from radio

Radio veteran John Laws has announced his plans to retire from radio in the coming weeks.

The radio host, 89, shocked his loyal listeners on his 2SM show on Tuesday morning, after reading out a letter from a fan who wrote how much they enjoy listening to the show each day.

“You’re not going to be hearing it for long, mate,” Laws said in response to the email. “I think it’s time for a rest.

“I’ve done it for a very, very, very, very long time,” Laws said about his broadcasting career. “And I think that I’ll just call it a day, and call it a day pretty soon.”

Laws said that he will “probably” hang up his headphones at the beginning of November when he celebrates 71 years on air.

“I don’t want to be greedy,” he said. “I’ve had 71 fantastic years … and loved almost every minute of it.”

He also made clear that after his final show, he will not be returning to radio.

“I’m not going to go away and then come back again and say, ‘oh, it was all a mistake,’” he said on 2SM. “It may well be a mistake, but there’ll be no return. That’s it.”

Laws then outlined his plans for his long-awaited retirement, saying, “I’ll travel, I’ll sit about, I’ll read more… and I’ll catch up with things that I should have caught up with a long time ago”.

The retirement announcement came as a shock to many loyal viewers, as Laws said in an interview in 2023 that he can't picture himself ever stepping back from the coveted radio role.

Just last year he told The Daily Telegraph, “I don’t think about retirement. I suppose I will have to one day but no, I don’t want to stop, I’d like to be doing it when I am 100.”

Radio host almost paralysed after horrific bike crash

Brisbane radio host Ben Dobbin is lucky to be alive after breaking his neck in a horrific bike crash.

Dobbin, 48, was training for the Noose triathlon on Wednesday when he swerved to miss a snake on the road.

The Triple M presenter crashed and was rushed to hospital and diagnosed with a fractured C5 vertebrae, and he underwent surgery on Thursday night.

While on the road to recovery, he told the Sunday Mail that he was “that close” to being in a wheelchair for the rest of his life that it was “not funny”.

“My front tyre clipped his back tyre and I lost control, shot across [the road], got spat out and went head first into the one and only steel pole,” he said.

He recalled how the neurosurgeon that operated on him through his throat also told the father-of-five that there’s a risk he could lose his voice altogether, saying, “I told him ‘that’s my career’ and he said ‘my priority is to save you from being in a wheelchair for the rest of your life.’”

Despite telling the outlet that “most people who have this type of injury don’t ever walk again”, Dobbin was up and taking his first few steps on Friday.

“I don’t know how long I’ll be in hospital for, they haven’t told me,” he said. “I’ve been in agony, but it’s more the mental side of things that’s harder to deal with, if I’m honest."

“I know one thing, I’ll never get on a bike again.”

Dobbins co-hosts Leisel Jones and Liam Flanagan on The Rush Hour with Leisel, Liam and Dobbo informed listeners of the accident on Wednesday, saying that Dobbin was expected to make a “full recovery”.

Maddie McCann suspect’s cellmate shares shocking confession

The prime suspect in the disappearance of Madeleine McCann allegedly confessed to a former cellmate that he once took a child from an apartment in Portugal.

Christian Brueckner, a convicted German paedophile, has never formally been charged with the abduction of McCann but has long been the main suspect in the case.

Brueckner, who was in and around the Praia da Luz resort area on the Algarve coast at the time McCann disappeared on May 3rd 2007, has denied any involvement with her disappearance.

The 47-year-old is currently serving a seven-year sentence for a rape he committed in Portugal in 2005, while also being on trial for several unrelated sexual offences he is alleged to have committed between 2000 and 2017.

In court on Wednesday, Brueckner's former cellmate Laurentiu Codin claimed he opened up about his past while they were confiding in each other at Braunschweig Prison.

“He told me that in Portugal, he had stolen there,” Codin told Braunschweig Regional Court, The Sun reported.

“He was in an area of hotels where rich people live ... and when he went to the hotel area, there was an open window somewhere, he told me. And he would have entered this window for money and gold."

“However, he did not find any money, but came across a child and took it with him.”

He claimed Bruckner said he “left the area” and “took the child with him ... and drove away, while the place was full of police and dogs”.

“He drove off in the car and he was gone. He asked me if the DNA from a child could be taken from bones under the ground.”

After the witness said Brueckner was clever, the defendant’s lawyer asked whether he thought it was clever to tell someone in prison about such crimes, to which Codin said: “Perhaps ... he misjudged me.”

McCann disappeared from her bedroom on May 3, 2007, during a family holiday while her parents were dining with friends nearby in the resort of Praia da Luz.

German police said in June 2020 that McCann was presumed dead and that Brueckner was likely responsible for it, however, he has not been charged with any crime related to her disappearance.

Shock over op shop item listed for $2,000

An Aussie charity shop has come under fire after a shopper spotted a luxury item with a hefty four-figure price tag.

A woman was browsing the shelves at the Vinnies Op Shop in Tamworth where she spotted a forest green handbag by luxury brand Balenciaga for sale for a whopping $2,000.

While the handbag retails at roughly $4,000, the eye-watering "sale" price has infuriated many after a customer spotted it isolated on a shelf in-store.

"How in the world would a normal everyday person be able to afford that? At the stage now it’s cheaper to go to Kmart," a local woman hit out on social media.

Others agreed, saying it's a "slap in the face when everything is donated in first place".

"It’s ridiculous these days, all the op shops are so overpriced. Very much so in the suburb I live in because it’s a wealthy area, they think everyone who walks in is loaded," another said, commenting on the designer bag.

Vinnies was quick to respond to the backlash over the expensive item, Vinnies North West area manager Julie Crosby reiterated that Vinnies shops are charity stores.

"We're raising funds," she told the ABC. "We can spend that money on helping out homeless people, domestic violence issues where we're relocating families".

Store manager Megan Moffat added, "It's a beautiful little handbag" implying the $2,000 is justified.
