Another Channel Ten star jumps ship to rival network

As Channel Ten continues to make difficult choices about their future as they struggle to stay afloat, one high profile host has jumped ship to a rival network.

According to Yahoo Lifestyle, Rodger Corser, who was the host of the short-lived series The Traitors Australia on Ten, is set to host a new show on Nine titled The Floor, with Channel Nine allegedly swooping in to steal the actor and presenter "from underneath Network 10's noses".

An industry insider told Yahoo Lifestyle that The Traitors Australia was being looked at again for another season, but Rodger's sudden move to Channel Nine has killed any hope that a third series would continue.

As for Corser's new gig with Nine, The Floor is described as being a "game based around a floor grid of 81 squares, each of which is occupied by a contestant with expertise in a different trivia category. Pairs of contestants face each other in head-to-head trivia duels, with the winner taking over all territory controlled by the loser."

After being made popular in the US with host Rob Lowe, the insider said Corser would be "perfect fit" to bring the show Down Under.

"Nine didn't really want anyone else," they said. "The Floor is going to be massive and Nine are thrilled to have Rodger on contract."

Channel Seven loses veteran reporter to rival network

A Channel Seven reporter has announced he is leaving the network to join a rival station.

Journalist Steve Hart from the 7News room in Brisbane shared that he is leaving the network after two years to join the WIN News, owned by Nine, in Wollongong.

Hart, who first joined the Seven Network in 2022 after leaving Network 10, will have his last day on September 11th.

The news was revealed in an internal email to staff on Tuesday, which cited “family reasons” as the driving force behind Hart’s decision.

According to Courier Mail, Hart’s wife has been living in Sydney, and his regular weekend commutes to be with her have played a significant role in his choice to relocate closer to his family.

The news of Hart's departure comes after the 7News room in Brisbane has faces a series of controversies, with many high profile presenters fleeing the network.

Hart's departure comes just one week after sports presenter Shane Webcke announced his decision to step back from the news desk, following discussions with management to reduce his work hours and focus on his family’s agricultural business.

The departure of both Hart and Webcke is understood to be unrelated to the recent wave of redundancies at Seven, and comes after the ABC Four Corners investigation into toxic workplace culture in the Brisbane newsroom.

“The spirit of Australia”: Rival airlines' actions praised after Bonza collapse

Thousands of passengers were left stranded across the country when budget airline Bonza cancelled all their flights and announced that they have entered into voluntary administration.

“Bonza has temporarily suspended services due to be operated today, as discussions are currently underway regarding the ongoing viability of the business,” CEO Tim Jordan said.

“We apologise to our customers who are impacted by this and we are working as quickly as possible to determine a way forward that ensures there is ongoing competition in the Australian aviation market," he later told news.com.au.

Rival airlines, including Jetstar, Qantas and Virgin have all stepped in to help passengers and staff affected by Bonza's sudden collapse.

Jetstar and Virgin Australia sprung into action when one passenger, Tracy Hilbert, revealed her devastation after her morning flight to Melbourne got cancelled on the day that she was planning to be with her family following her father's passing on Monday.

The two airlines helped her get to her destination without charging her for a ticket.

Jetstar, which is owned by Qantas, also released a statement on Tuesday and said: “We understand today’s news about Bonza will have a significant impact on many people’s travel plans.”

“For Bonza customers who are due to travel today or who are stuck away from home, Jetstar and Qantas will assist by providing flights at no cost where there are seats available.”

Qantas also released a statement offering employment support to staff affected by the budget airline's collapse.

“We extend our thoughts to our aviation industry colleagues and their families – from pilots and cabin crew to flight planners and operations controllers,” it read.

“If Bonza employees would like to discuss recruitment opportunities within Jetstar and Qantas, particularly in specialised fields which are unique to aviation, we’ve set up a dedicated page on the Jetstar careers website.

“For any customers with a cancelled Bonza flight on a route we operate, to make sure you’re not further out of pocket, you can fly with us at no cost where we have seats available.”

Virgin Australia also extended its hand to staff seeking employment, and offered support to any passengers stranded mid-journey with complimentary seats, where available.

“When Bonza started in Australia, we welcomed its launch because competition makes us all better and benefits consumers. We are saddened to hear of Bonza’s current situation and the impacts on its people, customers and partners,” the statement read.

“We will do what we can to support Bonza’s employees by prioritising them for any current and future roles at Virgin Australia, and encourage them to contact our careers team at recruitmentteam@virginaustralia.com if they wish.”

The three airlines' responses have been applauded by the aviation industry and Aussies alike with many branding it “the spirit of Australia”.

Image: Lachie Millard/ news.com.au

Major supermarket director slams "woke" rivals' Australia Day boycott

John-Paul Drake, director of family-owned Drakes Supermarkets, has slammed rival supermarkets for moving away from stocking Australia Day merchandise.

The fiery rant posted on social media came after the independent grocery retailer, which has 66 stores across South Australia and Queensland, shared their latest catalogue promoting Australia Day.

The supermarket director said that his objection to “wokeworths” was about “choice”.

“Whether you choose to celebrate Australia Day or not is totally up to you,” he wrote.

“As a retailer, it’s my responsibility to let my customers choose if a product is suitable for them.

“Just because you’re lactose-intolerant, does that mean I shouldn’t sell dairy products in store? How would you feel if I told you I didn’t like chocolate so we’ll no longer be selling it?

“I agree that there is a broader discussion to be had around the date we celebrate our country," he added.

“But until that date is changed, I will choose to gather with my friends and family and celebrate how bloody lucky we are that we live in a country where we can choose to have these kinds of debates.”

He added that he understands some "may not agree with me, and that's ok."

“Some of you may choose to boycott our stores – and I respect your right to choose where you spend your money,” he wrote.

“I do ask, however, that you respect my team if you do enter our stores. They do not deserve to cop abuse for my values.”

View this post on Instagram

A post shared by jp drake (@shake.and.drake)

This comes after Woolworths confirmed that it would no longer be selling Australia day merchandise last week, with Big W and Aldi following suit.

Opposition Leader Peter Dutton was quick to call for a boycott against the supermarket giant, for their "woke agenda".

Coles, on the other hand, confirmed that they will continue to sell a small-range of Australia Day themed products for those who wish to celebrate the day.

Images: Instagram/ Facebook

Kyle and Jackie O “in talks” with rival network

Kyle Sandilands and Jackie O have reportedly been talking with rival networks as their contract with KIIS FM and ARN comes to an end in 2024.

The powerhouse radio duo’s old network Southern Cross Austereo, where they previously found success with their hit show on 2Day FM, has reportedly been “pretty aggressive” in pursuing the pair, according to the Australian Financial Review.

A network insider has also revealed that for rival networks this process is “like sports rights for radio. It's very likely it'll end up being the biggest talent media deal ever.”

Kyle and Jackie O have been unstoppable and have even made history for ARN, topping the latest radio ratings survey with a 17.9 per cent of the audience share.

They have been the top breakfast show in Sydney for the third time running and averaged a whopping 921,000 listeners a week.

ARN Media CEO & Managing Director Ciaran Davis has told the Daily Mail about the value of the radio hosts: “We don't see contract negotiations as being an on-off exercise.”

“Since Kyle and Jackie O have been with us, we have been working very hard to make sure they feel part of a bigger network, and that everybody contributes to that.”

He then proceeded to praise the duo for being the best at what they do.

“I don't think that it's a surprise to us that they have had the highest listenership they have ever had. Honestly, having worked in many countries in radio, I think they are the best in the world at what they do.”

However, the SCA themselves have declined to provide a comment on these rumours.

Images: KIIS FM/ Instagram

Sam Kerr shares rare insight into romance with rival sports star

Aussie soccer star Sam Kerr has shared a rare insight into her relationship with her US player girlfriend, Kristie Mewis.

Speaking to UK online publication Gaffer, the couple confirmed that they first knew of each other back in 2019 while competing in the National Women's Soccer League in the US.

The two soccer stars then slid into each other's direct messages on Instagram and sparked a conversation.

Unfortunately, due to COVID restrictions, they were "forced" to get to know each other online.

"It was about three or four months until we could hang out in person," Kerr said, referring to the first romantic meeting with her now girlfriend.

"The first time we ever met there was quarantine so we had to spend two weeks together the first time we met.

"I was thinking if I don’t like her this is going to be awkward".

But her fears were proven wrong as the couple are still going strong, their relationship close to hitting the two-year mark.

"We didn’t share it for ages, then it just got too hard to hide it," Kerr said regarding their sweet relationship.

Kerr also shared the story of how the couple first started coming out to their friends.

"I remember one time we were with some friends and some fans asked for a picture and then we thought we don’t really want this coming out from someone else. We want to be the ones to share it," she said

"Once we told our friends it kind of started getting out there a little bit".

Mewis, on the other hand, said she was more eager to go public with their relationship.

"I was so proud that she was mine so I wanted to share it. I love her and I was so proud to be her girlfriend".

Mewis also shared that she loved sharing their relationship on social media, as she hopes that in publicising their relationship, they can change a few people's lives.

"I think just being out and being two girls in love, I think if we can change one or two people’s lives and the way that they feel about each other and how comfortable they feel, then that means a lot to me," she said.

"So I think if we can change the way one or two people feel about themselves, they can look at us and see that we're happy and we're trying to be as successful as we can and we're an out gay couple. I think that that's so important".

The couple are now one of soccer's power couples and are both "out and proud" in the queer and straight communities.

Image: Instagram/ Gaffer

Fat Bear Winner: ‘747’ lays b-ruin to rivals despite fishy voting

After eating lots of tasty fish in preparation for the northern hemisphere’s winter, Brown bear 747 has been crowned the winner of the annual Fat Bear Week.

The initiative, run by the US National Parks Service and multimedia organisation explore, gives the public a chance to vote for the biggest brown bear in Alaska’s Katmai National Park.

Over one week, people cast their votes for eight nominated bears that have been gorging on river salmon in the lead up to their hibernation.

After a summer of catching and eating fish – usually salmon – in the Brooks River, the bears reach peak size in early to mid-October.

Shortly, they’ll go into a five-to-eight-month slumber, emerging after the coldest part of the Alaskan winter.

The initiative shines a light on the behaviours and survival methods of the species which resides across northern hemisphere continents towards the Arctic Circle.

Although brown bears are now extinct in much of central and southern Europe, some still persist in Romania and the Balkan states, and they remain across Russia, Alaska, Canada, the Himalayas and Tibetan plateau.

It is also an important indicator species for other wildlife due to their wide habitat range, and play important ecological roles as seed dispersers, and lower-level species managers through predation.

Get stuffed! Cheating claims in lead up to Fat Bear final

Prior to the grand final between 747 and brown bear 901, a shocking case of voting fraud left organisers decidedly grizzly.

A spam attack of votes during the semi-finals threatened to derail 747’s quest for a second Fat Bear crown.

Fortunately, organisers were hot onto the bogus bruin ballots.

“Like bears stuff their face with fish, your ballot box, too, has been stuffed,” Katmai organisers said on Monday.

“It appears someone has decided to spam the Fat Bear Week poll, but fortunately it is easy for us to tell which votes are fraudulent. We have discarded the fake votes.”

Publicly voted animal awareness competitions are notoriously prone to phony voting.

The Guardian Australia Bird of the Year competition infamously saw a case of dodgy democracy in 2019 when a case of automated voting was detected by the avian electoral commission.

Cosmos’ own Australian Mammal of the Year competition was this year hit by a bout of egregious electioneering when hundreds of spam votes were cast for some animals vying for the crown.

Fortunately, as with Fat Bear Week, spotting and omitting a bad ballot is a straightforward task of, usually, spotting unusual voting patterns.

2022 Fat Bear Week winner ‘747’ hunts for a tasty fish. 13 famous sisters who were also fierce rivals

Families fight – that’s just what they do. Usually, when a family has a rift within it, it’s kept within the home and dealt with internally. That is, of course, only when the family isn’t famous. For those in the public eye, every little problem is broadcast to the world.

While all families have a few skeletons in the closet (and sometimes you only learn unbelievable family secrets after someone dies), famous families seem to have more than their fair share. For these famous female siblings, their dirty laundry was flaunted for the whole world. No one can drive you crazy like family!

Anne and Mary Boleyn

Both Mary Boleyn and her younger sister, Anne, had affairs with King Henry VIII, but only one married him. That sister wasn’t Mary – she was married off to one of the King’s friends in 1521. That left Anne, and well, lucky her…it wasn’t long before Henry grew tired of her and her inability to produce a living male heir. Henry set his sights on his next wife and had Anne imprisoned on trumped-up charges. In 1536, he had her beheaded.

Queen Mary and Queen Elizabeth

Before Anne, Henry VIII had been married to Catherine of Aragon, who’d borne him a daughter named Mary. Henry divorced Catherine to marry Anne Boleyn, but we know how that turned out (see above). Anne did give Henry a daughter, Elizabeth, before she died. Mary eventually became Queen in 1553. Fearing Elizabeth was more popular than she, Mary had Elizabeth imprisoned and banished; however, Elizabeth was the victor overall when Mary died childless in 1558, leaving Elizabeth to ascend the throne and become one of the most famous Queens in all of history.

Venus and Serena Williams

It’s only natural Venus and Serena would be famous for their sisterly rivalry, which has been played out in some 30 professional tennis matches since 1998, most recently in 2018. Serena leads Venus in terms of wins and number of weeks ranked as the number one female tennis player in the world. But there are no hard feelings from Venus apparently; the Williams sisters leave their rivalry on the clay (or grass).

Lee Radziwell and Jackie Kennedy

The two daughters of Janet and Jack Bouvier were beautiful, wealthy, and though very loving as sisters, were highly competitive with one another, especially when it came to rich men. Although Lee eventually became a princess (having married a Polish prince), she couldn’t possibly “win” once Jackie married John F. Kennedy in 1953, in the union that created “Camelot”.

Catherine and Pippa Middleton

Like the Bouvier sisters, the Middleton sisters have always been loving but rivalrous. When Catherine married Prince William, it was clear that she’d “won.” Or was it? On the day of the wedding, while the new Duchess of Cambridge was undeniably a truly lovely bride, her sister, Pippa caught more attention for her gorgeous figure in her fitted, white bridesmaid’s dress. If this makes you think of your sister, try these family quotes that hit too close to home.

Joan Fontaine and Olivia de Havilland

Olivia and Joan, born in 1916 and 1917, respectively, both became major Hollywood stars, and stories of their professional rivalry followed them throughout their lives. Theirs wasn’t just a professional rivalry, however; Olivia had resented Joan from birth, and their fights sometimes became physical (Joan claimed Olivia broke her collarbone in 1933). Joan died in 2013 while Olivia is still alive, now 103 – but their rivalry will live on forever.

Zsa Zsa and Eva Gabor

Eva Gabor was famous for portraying the pampered socialite married to a farmer on television’s Green Acres. Both of her older sisters, Zsa Zsa and Magda, were in the entertainment industry too, but it was the rivalry between Zsa Zsa and Eva that was most famous. In 1990, the Los Angeles Times even went so far as to playfully tally up their “wins”: Eva was skinnier. Zsa Zsa had more marriages. Eva sold wigs. Zsa Zsa sold costume jewelry and skin cream. Ultimately, even though Eva was the more successful actress, ironically, people often confused the two Gabor sisters.

The Andrews Sisters

No one can compete with the Andrews Sisters trio in terms of their being the best-selling female vocal group of all time. But boy, did they compete with one another. Their fighting included a period of two years when Maxene and LaVerne wouldn’t speak to Patty. After LaVerne died, Maxene and Patty continued to sing together, but they never really stopped feuding. The AV Club reports that when asked about the sisters’ feud, Patty’s reply was that there’d only ever been one disagreement. “It started in 1937 and it’s still going!”

The Brontë sisters

There were three Brontë sisters, but many know only about Charlotte, author of Jane Eyre and Emily, author of Wuthering Heights. The lesser-known Anne may have been a better storyteller, but something derailed her career, and some believe it was Charlotte. “Charlotte had always underestimated and patronised” Anne according to Penguin Publishing Group, and Charlotte may have taken the idea for Jane Eyre from Anne’s Agnes Grey. Not that Anne was entirely blameless; it’s been said she used her book, The Tenant of Wildfell Hall, to critique both Jane Eyre and Wuthering Heights.

Jessica and Ashlee Simpson

Jessica and her younger sister, Ashlee, competed intensely for record sales during the early naughts, but according to VH1 at least, they’ve had “equal success” with hits including “Irresistible” and “Pieces of Me,” respectively. Both have been hotly criticised (Jessica for being an airhead, and Ashlee for plastic surgery), but “they survived scrutiny and have powered on.

Cleopatra and her sister, Arsinoe

“It can’t be easy having a sister who is much more famous and successful than you,” writes the Dangerous Women Project of how it must have been for Arsinoe, the younger sister of Cleopatra. Yeah, that Cleopatra, the one who seduced Julius Caesar and Mark Antony, and ultimately committed suicide by snake bite. Before all that went down, however, Cleopatra and Arsinoe had been bitter political rivals with Cleopatra ultimately ordering the 20-year old Arsinoe’s murder.

Beyoncé and Solange Knowles

There was a short time during their childhood when the two Grammy-winning sisters weren’t getting along, revealed their mother Tina Knowles in a 2018 Facebook chat with Maria Shriver, as reported by the Independent. The relationship was fraught because Solange is five years younger and Beyonce was on her way to being a superstar from a young age. “She [Beyoncé] couldn’t stand her for a minute. You know, they were little, [Solange] was all in her stuff, trying to hang around her and her friends and Beyoncé was really irritated…” So Knowles brought the two to therapy, despite criticism from her own family. “My family was like, ‘you’re going to make them crazy because they’re too young for you to take them,’ but I wanted Beyoncé to be sensitive to the fact that Solange had to deal with being a little bit in her shadow.” By all accounts, Tina’s early invention worked and the two siblings are each other’s biggest supporters to this day.

Dear Abby and Ann Landers

Pauline and Esther Friedman had a “ferocious” rivalry, according to a 1958 LIFE profile, that fuelled their individual successes as advice columnists. While many consider Pauline’s “Dear Abby” the iconic advice column, it was Esther’s “Ask Ann Landers” that paved the way for it (and all other advice columns to follow) starting in 1955. The two went head-to-head almost immediately, and their rivalry continued throughout the remainder of their lives. In fact, it continues even after their deaths through their respective families.

Written by Lauren Cahn. Bill Gates gets candid about rival Steve Jobs: He “cast spells on people”

According to Microsoft founder Bill Gates, his rival Apple CEO Steve Jobs “cast spells on people” to keep Apple profitable during the dark days of the company.

Both men are known for creating an intense workplace culture and being tough leaders. Gates realised that Jobs’ leadership style was a good example of “don’t do this at home”.

Gates spoke to Fareed Zakaria from CNN about his relationship with Jobs.

"I have yet to meet any person who in terms of picking talent, hyper-motivating that talent and having a sense of design, of 'this is good, this is not good.' So he brought some incredibly positive things along with that toughness."

Gates reflected on Jobs and the way he “cast spells on people”.

"Steve is really a singular case where the company was on a path to die and it goes and becomes the most valuable company in the world with some products that are really quite amazing. I think that intensity, even though a little bit it went too far, was great for my 20s, 30s, 40s."

Magda Szubanski starts counter-campaign to rival Israel Folau: "He is wrong – don't listen to him"

Comedian Magda Szubanski has started a campaign for terminally ill children in a bid to denounce causes that use faith to divide communities.

Two high-profile Christian leaders say that Szubanski has their support.

Father Bob Macguire and Father Rod Bower have pledged their support for the campaign, with Bower changing his parish’s community sign to read:

“LGBT friends: Folau is wrong. Don’t listen to him”, according to The New Daily.

Father Bower said he was supporting the comedian’s cause because Jesus’s practice was one of “radical inclusivity”.

“He even ate with sinners. So, if I’m going to be a Jesus follower, this fundraiser is something I can support,” he said in a statement.

Donors have pledged around $170,000 to the cause, but that’s paltry compared to the $2 million-plus raised so far for Israel Folau.

Szubanski aims to raise $500,000 to help children who are “in the fight of their lives”, using the same phrase that Folau used when describing his fundraiser in his legal fight against Rugby Australia.

Folau’s $4 million contract was terminated in May after he breached the terms and conditions by sharing a social media post warning that “sinners”, including drunks, liars and homosexuals, would go to hell if they didn’t repent.

The Australian Christian Lobby, who has firmly stood by Folau, has started a new campaign on its site after GoFundMe took down the initial fundraiser.

Szubanski’s rival fundraiser will give 90 per cent of donations to the Children’s Cancer Foundation and 10 per cent to Sydney-based LGBTQIA+ supper service Twenty10.

“Our Australian community is diverse, accepting, powerful and generous,” the crowdfunding page reads.

“It’s that spirit for which we should be known, and it’s with those values that we should be donating our time and money.”

Rival’s plan to take on Kmart

There’s no dispute that Kmart has become the go-to destination for cheap homewares.

Social media is alight with fans sharing their Kmart wares and home hacks – whether it’s a perfectly organised pantry, the product that makes flying with kids easier, or a luxe-looking but dirt cheap side-table.

But what does this mean for the much smaller, Australian retailers, selling many of the same products as the giant discount store? Well, they’re hitting back.

A senior executive of a rival retailer told news.com.au: “We’re so different to Kmart it’s ridiculous,” and called out Kmart for poor service and quality. They even likened the craze for cheaper products as a “heroin fix”.

Even though Kmart sells bed sheets for little more than a dollar, the more upmarket homeware retailer Adairs expects to post a record profit this year of around $45 million. Of course, that’s still less than 10 per cent of Kmart’s $553m profit last year.

Associate Professor Gary Mortimer, a retail expert at Queensland University of Technology, said that to survive specialist retailers should not try to adopt Kmart’s strategy.

“There is room in the market for niche retailers that have a premium offer and are able to provide that to a discreet target market,” he said.

Howards Storage World, which once boasted 60 stores but now has just half the number, isn’t too concerned there’s an army of Kmart fans spruiking its wares on social media.

Howards’ Marketing Manager, Cathy Player, says that Instagram followers is not a metric of success.

“We are so different to Kmart it’s ridiculous. Hats off to Kmart, they’ve done a magnificent job in repositioning themselves, but when you go into our stores you’ll get service and that’s what you won’t get when you go to Kmart,” she told news.com.au.

They’ve also reverted to old school techniques, with an annual catalogue showing not just the myriad of products but how to style and use them.

Professor Mortimer’s advice was to aim up-market. “The top end of the market, whether its home storage or Egyptian 1000 count sheets, really don’t need the cool (Instagram) factor as they’ve already established it.

“You don’t need hacks on how to wear Chanel sunglasses better. If you have a million dollar apartment, you’re not going to put Kmart sheets on the bed, but you might head to Howards.”

Ms Player said the retailer provides high quality products that won’t fall apart in a year but are still affordable.

“People tend to think of Kmart and low prices as attractive, but I don’t want you to buy any old thing, I want you to get something that works, not something that sits there, does nothing and becomes part of the clutter problem,” Ms Player said. “You can’t get a 10-year guarantee on a bin at a discount department store.”

“It’s a long-term view, not a short-term sales fix. It feels like the rest of Australian retail is on heroin and are doing all these sales just to get the spikes. We have a steady reliable and predictable range to make a difference to people lives.”

Serena Williams reignites feud with Maria Sharapova

Serena Williams has hit back over false claims Maria Sharapova made about her in her book titled Unstoppable: My Life So Far, which was released last year.

Williams said she was disappointed with the claims made about her, which she described as “hearsay”.

Sharapova – who Williams has beaten 18 times in a row and is about to face her fierce rival ahead of their French Open clash – wrote in her recent memoir that Serena “hated” her for hearing her cry after the 2004 Wimbledon final.

“I think the book was 100 per cent hearsay, at least all the stuff I read and the quotes that I read, which was a little disappointing,” Williams stated, after her third-round win at the French Open against Julia Georges.

“I have cried in the locker room many times after a loss, and that’s what I have seen a lot of people do. I think it’s normal.”

The tennis champ added, “It’s a Wimbledon final, you know. So, it’s just, like, I think it would be more shocking if I wasn’t in tears.”

Williams said she was stunned how much she was mentioned in the Russian tennis player’s book, but also upset that she was portrayed as disliking Sharapova.

“The book was a lot about me,” Williams said. “I was surprised about that, to be honest. You know, I was, like, ‘Oh, OK.’ I didn’t expect to be reading a book about me, that wasn’t necessarily true.”

Playing at the French Open, her first tournament since becoming a mum to Alexis Olympia last September, Williams continued, “I don’t have any negative feelings towards her, which again, was a little disappointing to see in that hearsay book. Especially having a daughter, I feel like negativity is taught. One of the things I always say, I feel like women, especially, should bring each other up.”

She added, “If anything, I feel like we should encourage each other, and the success of one female should be the inspiration to another, and I have said that 1000 times.”

Sharapova, who returned to competitive tennis in April 2017 after a 15-month suspension for doping, also wrote in her book: “Serena and I should be friends; we have the same passion. But we are not. I think, to some extent, we have driven each other. Maybe that’s what it takes … Who knows? Someday, when all this is in our past, maybe we’ll become friends.”

Aussie skier “robbed” at the Winter Olympics after rival falls over

It wouldn’t be the Winter Olympics if there wasn’t some sort of judging controversy, but the latest scandal to hit the games, involving Australian aerial skier David Morris, is leaving many viewers Down Under with a bad taste in their mouths.

Fans across Australia were shocked with Morris was denied a spot at the business end of the competition, with many feeling he was let down by the judge’s scorecard.

Morris, who is competing in his last Olympics, needed to place in the top nine to make the cut, and while his initial score of 111.95 had him in fourth, once the rest of the field started making clean jumps it was clear he was in trouble.

.@Aerialskier's final Olympic jump!

Congratulations on an amazing career, David! A legendary Aussie Olympian 🇦🇺🙌⛷️#Olympics pic.twitter.com/g0SdplLrxI
— 7Olympics (@7olympics) February 18, 2018

One of the competitors to follow Morris was Chinese athlete Jia Zongyang who was given a score of 118.55, despite clearly tumbling the landing as you can see below.

118.55 🤔 pic.twitter.com/7aCaGNbiFg
— 7Olympics (@7olympics) February 18, 2018

This left Morris to place in 10th, and pulled the curtain on his Olympic career.

“David didn’t have the perfect jump,” Seven commentator and Morris’s fellow freestyle skier Lydia Lassila said after the Australian was knocked out.

“This is a tough competition. Jia fell over after an uncontrolled landing.

“He was not in control on that landing. He fell over. So 118 for that I’m in disbelief. It’s really unfortunate.

“They (the judges) have got to seriously review what they have decided upon tonight.”

However, in true Australian spirit Morris was gracious in defeat.

“10th in Olympics is fantastic. It’s my third games. This is a fantastic competition. Everyone has been putting down huge jumps. Nothing to be disappointed about,” Morris said.

Gracious in defeat. @Aerialskier is all class. What a champion. 🇦🇺🙌⛷️ pic.twitter.com/nME0yAlgxv
— 7Olympics (@7olympics) February 18, 2018

“I think a couple of us are confused about that,” Morris said.

“My coach went and asked the judges, they gave him four metres of controlled skiing which is what counts for a landing.

“You can watch replays and slow mo and argue as much as you want. They gave him a four-metre stance where he had control.

“I can’t argue it. Tough luck for me. That’s how these sports go.”

What do you think? Do you think Morris was robbed?

The European supermarket chain is reportedly already looking for potential sites to base its operations, as well as local staff.

The supermarket chain is notorious in Europe for its aggressive pricing strategy and expansive range, offering shoppers everything from groceries to automobile supplies.

The Kaufland website outlines the retailer’s intent stating, “Kaufland has an ambitious Australian investment and development programme. Therefore, we are always looking to purchase land and/or existing or projected developments.”

Brian Walker, chief executive at Retail Doctor Group, told Smart Company that Kaufland offered Aussie shoppers an experience they haven’t really had before.

Walker said, “The closest comparison would be Costco without the focus on membership.
