Cruise ship forced to turn back after 100 passengers injured in storm

The Spirit of Discovery cruise ship was forced to turn back after around 100 passengers were injured during a massive storm.

Cruise company Saga have said that most of the injuries were minor, but five people had to be taken to hospital when the ship returned to England on Tuesday local time.

One passenger told BBC News that a few passengers "feared for their lives", when the storm hit the ship in the Bay of Biscay, off the French coast.

"People were writing texts to their loved ones in case we capsized," they added.

"The tone of voice in our captain... he was physically scared. We had crew crying. We had many passengers in awful states of fear."

The passenger also claimed that that injuries included broken bones and cuts, with reports of furniture flying around and people being knocked off their feet, as the ship stopped moving and veered dramatically to one side as part of its safety manoeuvre.

Another passenger, 75-year-old Jan Bendall, told the BBC that she and her husband were "holding on for dear life", and that it was overall a frightening experience.

"It was quite frightening, I'm not somebody who frightens easily," Bendall said.

"We were lucky - we're quite able-bodied, but I think some of the older people and people in their own cabins were quite worried," she added.

The ship itself holds almost 1000 passengers and holds cruises for people over 50.

Saga told the BBC that there had been "very limited" damage and the ship had "remained safe at all times."

"While the weather is clearly beyond our control, we want to offer our sincere apologies to all those affected who are now safely on their way home in calmer seas," the spokesperson said.

Images: Nine News/ Facebook

Shock twist in Stuart MacGill's kidnapping saga

In a shock twist Stuart MacGill has been charged with taking part in a huge cocaine deal, which police allege is related to his kidnapping.

MacGill was reportedly arrested by police from the Robbery and Serious Crime Squad on Tuesday, and has been released on bail, according to The Daily Telegraph.

Police will allege that the 52-year-old facilitated a deal between two people, where they agreed to sell 1kg of cocaine for $330,000 in 2019.

Investigators will also allege that MacGill had a $1000 cocaine debt owed to one of the men, and this debt would be cleared as a benefit of facilitating the deal.

Police allege that this was what led MacGill to be blamed, kidnapped, threatened at gunpoint, and beaten up before he was released in Belmore on April 2021.

The kidnapping incident resulted in six men being arrested.

Police had previously cleared MacGill from any illegal activity and publicly stated that MacGill was an "innocent victim", before further evidence was reportedly uncovered.

MacGill had also given a number of TV interviews after the kidnapping, where he maintained his innocence and recalled the terrifying ordeal.

“I was in a situation that’s foreign to me and I was physically and mentally intimidated.

“I couldn’t have done anything differently, I don’t think," he previously said in an interview with Channel Nine's A Current Affair.

Although the nature of the new information that police received cannot legally be revealed, the charge carries a potential maximum penalty of life in jail.

The famous bowler will face Manly Local Court on October 26 charged with one count of taking part in the supply of a large commercial quantity of cocaine, according to a NSW Communities and Justice spokesman.

Image: Getty Images

Guy Sebastian speaks for first time about his neighbourhood court case saga

In a twist to a tale that has baffled from the start, Guy Sebastian has finally addressed the ongoing court case with his neighbour.

The singer was on Sunrise to discuss his fundraising for mental health when the hosts steered conversation towards the dispute, with an uncomfortable Guy initially trying to laugh it off.

“Life is full of challenges. Yourself at the moment, you’re currently involved in a court case with your neighbour,” host Matt Shirvington opened, referencing the years-long feud between Guy and his 66-year-old neighbour, Phillip Richard Hanslow.

“It’s hard, isn’t it? Because you’re a public figure, you’re in the public eye,” Matt continued. “There’ve been some pretty serious allegations though, thrown your way, which haven’t been spoken about publicly. What can you tell us?”

“Well, this is the first question I’m answering about it,” Guy responded. “I’ve chosen to not say anything, I guess I’ve learned now it’s sort of like ‘where do I start’, that’s been so much that’s [been] said that’s not true, and I’m not in a court case with him.

“I haven’t taken an AVO out against this guy. This is an ongoing thing, not an isolated event … there was something that transpired between me and him where I’d asked him, basically, to stop damaging my property.

“And then there was, you know, some things that were said on his part which caused me to have to call the police.”

“And so it’s not me versus him. It’s the police who decided to take the initiative of taking an AVO out.

“And like you said, as a public person, I will cop it, I get it. There’s going to be stuff that’s said but sometimes for me it’s like ‘where do I start’. I mean, there was something that was alleged yesterday, the stuff in the paper today that was just completely fabricated.”

With that, Guy was drawing attention to claims made by his neighbour that Guy had been holding a brick and “towering over” him, and that footage existed of the alleged incident.

Phillip’s lawyer, Bryan Wrench, reportedly told the court that “that footage was not provided to the police, and it would show Mr Sebastian with a brick in his hand towering over our client. That’s why we’re quite concerned that it is served and produced.”

Guy, however, maintained that this did not occur, and went on to voice his concern for his family in the midst of the media frenzy and roiling tension.

“And I think when it has to do with safety and my family - like, I travel for work - and it’s something that I had to address,” he said, “and there’s nothing I can do except for relying on the help of the police to calm this situation down.

“And so yes, there’s a lot that has been said. I don’t actually know where to start, but I guess with today there’s stuff that’s been said, and I know that it’s more of a story to flip the narrative so that I’m the bad guy in some way, it’s just completely not true.”

With Guy choosing there to conclude, Kylie Gillies expressed appreciation on behalf of herself and co-host Matt, before also thanking him for coming in to speak about his fundraising, and for opening up to them.

“That’s kind of why I don’t speak about stuff too,” Guy confessed, “because there’s so much of that stuff in the media that is everyone’s focus, and it makes it hard to do anything that actually means something.”

Images: Sunrise

How Hugh Jackman became entangled in the Sea Eagles pride jersey saga

In the wake of the Manly Sea Eagles pride jersey saga that saw several players boycott a charity NRL match, it has been revealed that Hugh Jackman knew about the "controversial" design weeks ago.

On Tuesday, Manly coach Des Hasler revealed that seven NRL players decided to boycott this week's game due to the appearance of a one-off pride rainbow on their jerseys, with players citing religious and cultural beliefs.

The Gotcha4Life Cup match between the Manly Sea Eagles and the Sydney Roosters is designed to raise money to fight mental illness, with over $200,000 expected to be raised.

Hugh Jackman had agreed to promote the game as the Hollywood actor, who like Gotcha4Life founder and childhood mate Gus Worland is a diehard Sea Eagles supporter.

Jackman received a replica Manly jersey in the post a few weeks ago, proudly pointing at the not-for-profit foundation’s logo for a photo.

Jackman also signed the jersey, which will be auctioned this week.

A photo of Jackman with the jersey was plastered on the front page of The Daily Telegraph on Wednesday morning, with Jackman hoping to spin the negative press of the boycott into an opportunity to highlight the good of the charity.

“I woke up this morning and saw that front page and thought, ‘Aw, he hates it when he’s on the front page’,” Gus Worland told news.com.au on Wednesday.

“But he goes, ‘Mate, it’s awesome. Let’s turn it around. Let’s talk about Gotcha4Life. Let’s see how much good we can do with the money that’s been donated'."

“That’s him to a tee.”

The pride jersey saga has regrettably shifted focus away from the Gotcha4Life Cup, as Gus Worland, with the help of former Manly player Ian Roberts, the first openly gay NRL footballer, will put aside a portion of funds raised to assist LGBTI communities.

The saga began on Tuesday when Manly Sea Eagles players Josh Aloiai, Jason Saab, Christian Tuipulotu, Josh Schuster, Haumole Olakau’atu, Tolutau Koula and Toafofoa Sipley were willing to sabotage their team's chance at securing a spot in the NRL finals over something as frivolous as a rainbow stripe.

Criticism of the players has been rife online, with many pointing out that supporting the rights of the LGBTQ+ community should be spoken about more in the Australian sporting community.

You can donate to Gotcha4Life here.

Image credits: Getty Images / Instagram

Twist in Supercheap Auto "hero" saga

A company spokesman from Supercheap Auto has confirmed that the employee who confronted an alleged shoplifter has left the business.

The motor goods giant confirmed that the man has chosen to leave the business after a “comprehensive review” of the incident.

This follows the viral video uploaded to TikTok that showed the employee's attempt to prevent an alleged shoplifter from leaving the store with items hidden in her pram.

“I can confirm that the team member involved in the incident has decided to leave the business,” a company spokesman revealed.

The communication also reiterated that workers are instructed not to confront shoplifters or make physical contact with customers. “We have extensive video surveillance in our stores and suspected cases of shoplifting are referred to the police with footage of the alleged offenders,” this continues.

“The health, safety and wellbeing of our team members and customers is our highest priority and we are committed to maintaining a safe working and shopping environment.”

Previously it had been reported that Supercheap Auto’s parent company, Super Retail Group, had stood the employee down but placed the employee on full pay while they were investigating the incident.

The act earned the man widespread support, with some dubbing him as a local hero. Others were so impressed that the man became inundated with job offers once announcing he was stood down.

2GB radio host Ben Fordham also barracked for the man and said there was “no way in the world” he should have been stood down.

Image: TikTok

Blame game ensues over Sydney transport saga

Sydney’s public transport has been thrown into chaos today, with all train services cancelled.

A breakdown in talks between the NSW Government and the Rail Tram and Bus Union (RTBU) has resulted in all services on the Sydney Train lines and intercity RailLink line being cancelled.

Transport for NSW have said the decision is the result of industrial action, however the RTBU say the planned industrial action wouldn’t impact commuters and the trains have been cancelled by the government in “retaliation”.

The government and the union have been exchanging blows this morning, with Premier Dominic Perrottet branding the situation a “coordinated attack” by the Labor Party and RTBU.

“This is no accident. This is a concerted campaign by the unions and the Labor Party to cause mass disruption across our city. They are not even hiding it,” Mr Perrottet told reporters.

“Today is the first day we have international arrivals coming in, a day where mums and dads are trying to get their kids to school, a day when many university students are going back to class for the first time and many people as a result of our announcement last week returning to work.

“The unions were intent on causing chaos.”

The NSW premier confirmed that the decision to cancel the trains had been made by Transport for NSW, but claimed they were “left with no alternative in terms of safety”.

He said he was incredibly disappointed with what has occurred this morning, saying the union’s wrong interpretation of the decision made by the Industrial Relations Commission is to blame for the action taken by Sydney Trains.

“This is a concerted, predetermined campaign by the union movement,” he said.

“You cannot treat the people of our great state in this way and it is very, very clear that this is the Labor Party in bed with the union movement to cause mass disruption.”

The decision to cancel the trains was made just before 2am, meaning commuters who rely on the train services have been left scrambling to find alternative transport.

RTBU NSW Secretary Alex Claassens made it clear on Monday morning that the cancelled trains was not the result of a worker strike, branding it a “dummy spit” from the NSW government.

Speaking at a press conference at Central Station, Mr Claassens said when staff turned up for work this morning, they were told by management that the trains had been cancelled.

“You can imagine the shock this morning waking up and knowing that the government had just done the most low and dastardly thing you can imagine the government doing. They have locked out their workforce and they have inconvenienced the people of NSW just because it was going to be a little bit difficult,” he told reporters.

At this stage no train replacement buses have been organised to help commuters, with people being told to find their own alternative transport arrangements.

The impacted lines include the Airport and South Line, Bankstown Line, Blue Mountains Line, Central Coast & Newcastle Line, Cumberland Line, Eastern Suburbs & Illawarra Line, Hunter Line, Inner West & Leppington Line, North Shore Line, Northern Line, Olympic Park, South Coast Line, Southern Highlands Line and the Western Line.

Ferry and Light Rails services are understood to be operating as usual.

Image credits: Getty Images / Twitter

Australia's hefty legal bill in Novak saga revealed

During a Senate hearing on Monday night, the cost of Australia's legal proceedings against tennis champ Novak Djokovic were revealed.

The Department of Home Affairs reportedly had to pay an estimated $360,000 over the weeks long saga, but this is not the official final figure of money spent.

This hefty sum doesn’t take into account the division of legal costs that were awarded in both court stoushes that took place.

The Department of Home Affairs was ordered to pay the legal costs for the first Federal Court matter in which Novak first had his visa cancelled.

But Djokovic was ordered to pay the costs in his subsequent failed bid to overturn Immigration Minister Alex Hawke’s decision to send the Serbian tennis champ packing for being unvaccinated.

“Hopefully they’ll net out to zero,” Home Affairs secretary Michael Pezzullo said during the hearing.

The department’s legal group manager Pip De Veau said that the fees had yet to be paid, but it was estimated to be $360,000, not taking into account these cost orders.

“The combined estimate at this stage was in the vicinity of $360,000 without any awards going either way,” she said.

“Costs were awarded against the department in the first proceedings, costs were awarded for the department in the second."

“We’ll need to get the invoices and make the determination in consultation with Mr Djokovic’s lawyers as to how those two cost orders are sorted out.”

Novak Djokovic was deported before the Australian Open, stopping him from competing.

“I will respect the court’s ruling and I will co-operate with the relevant authorities in relation to my departure from the country,” Djokovic said at the time.

“I am uncomfortable that the focus of the past weeks has been on me and I hope that we can now focus on the game and the tournament I love.”

Dan Andrews saga continues as Police Commissioner weighs in

Victoria Police Chief Commissioner Shane Patton has confirmed police did not attend the Sorrento home where Premier Daniel Andrews fell and narrowly avoided permanent spinal injury.

Mr Patton's comments come days after Ambulance Victoria responded to the opposition's press release on Monday, in which shadow treasurer Louise Staley demanded the Premier answer questions about the injury which occurred on March 9.

The questions included who called the ambulance and whether police interviewed Mr Andrews.

Senior government ministers this week accused the Coalition of peddling “QAnon craziness” about the circumstances of the Premier’s fall, and warned the Liberal Party was at risk of plunging into a “Trump conspiracy theory wormhole”.

Speaking to ABC Radio on Thursday morning, Mr Patton said police had not been involved.

“I’ve not been told we attended at all,” he said. “Yes, I did ask [whether police had been involved], at this stage I have been advised we haven’t attended.”

When asked if the Premier had been either formally or informally interviewed, Mr Patton said: “No. From my understanding, you’ve got a tragic accident that’s left a person severely injured who happens to be the Premier of the state. That’s not a matter the police will be involved in.”

On Thursday morning, Ms Staley said Ambulance Victoria had answered five of her questions, but she had seven questions outstanding, including the police's involvement, who was in the house at the time of the incident, the address of the property and its owner.

“The government is trying to concurrently run a line that these questions are illegitimate but then is answering some of them,” Ms Staley said.

“This is the government’s playbook – they attempt to make any questioning illegitimate and then so they’re playing the woman.”

When asked why she thought police would have interviewed Mr Andrews, Ms Staley said: “I don’t know, I’m just asking.”

"Not good enough": Lisa Wilkinson slams royal family over Prince Andrew saga

Lisa Wilkinson had the opportunity to question the close friend of Ghislaine Maxwell on The Sunday Project following the British socialites arrest last week.

Former New York stockbroker Laura Goldman says Ms. Maxwell was a victim herself.

“She was in love with Jeffrey Epstein,”Ms. Goldman claimed.

“It doesn’t excuse what she did. She really thought that he would marry her. I feel in some ways he gaslit her.

“He kind of convinced her that he was going to do it at some point and then never did. She didn’t see it and kept thinking, if I do one more thing for him, he will marry me. She was also a victim of Jeffrey. You can be a predator and a victim.”

Asked whether that excused Ms Maxwell allegedly creating dozens of more victims, whose lives were ruined, Ms Goldman said: “There’s no excuse, absolutely no excuse. I have no problem with her going to jail. My whole point is, though, that the story is more complicated.”

Wilkinson also delved into the pressure mounting on Prince Andrew as he remains in the UK, refusing to cooperate with law enforcement.

According to Ms Goldman, who Wilkinson said had a “chequered past”, Ms Maxwell was “very loyal” to Prince Andrew and would never reveal anything incriminating about him.

“She feels very loyal to him, he helped her after her father died. He helped launch her in New York society. And (for) that she will never betray him. I also think she’s not sure he did anything wrong. Not saying she didn’t. I think she feels he’s been a victim in this, too.”

Wilkinson took direct aim at Prince Andrew for failing to cooperate with prosecutors, and for using Prince Harry and Meghan Markle as scapegoats to minimise alleged sexual abuse allegations against the Queen’s son.

“This story will simply not go away,” said Wilkinson.

“As of Friday, the woman accused of providing Jeffrey Epstein with underaged girls, is in custody and with Epstein’s death, Ghislaine Maxwell may be the only one alive who knows all the secrets.

“If Laura Goldman is right and Maxwell doesn’t give up information on Prince Andrew, then it’s up to the Queen’s second son to do so himself.

“Not likely, given Andrew claims he doesn’t even remember meeting Virginia, even casting doubt over photograph figure evidence.”

Prince Andrew has claimed that the photo of himself, Ms Maxwell and a teenage Virginia Giuffre could have been doctored. During a “trainwreck” interview with BBC’s Newsnight, the Royal firmly denied he had ever met Ms. Giuffre, and claimed he had “no recollection” of ever meeting her.

He also claimed that on the night when Ms Giuffre has alleged she was forced to have sex with him, he was actually at a Pizza Express restaurant in Woking, Surrey for his daughter’s birthday.

“Sadly, we will never know if that is true, because days after that interview, the police denied a freedom of information request that could have confirmed this, or not,” Wilkinson said.

“What we do know is authorities are eager to speak to him.

“That’s why it is now up to the palace to push for Andrew to front up unconditionally.”

In a statement issued last December, Buckingham Palace said: “It is emphatically denied that the Duke of York had any form of sexual contact or relationship with Virginia Roberts. Any claim to the contrary is false and without foundation.”

The Palace has now stopped responding to requests for comment on the Epstein scandal.

Wilkinson finished her powerful statement on The Sunday Project by saying: “So, who do we believe?“

“Well, as long as Andrew remains under palace protection, we will never know. By any standard, that is simply not good enough.

“For 68 years, the Queen has demonstrated herself to be someone who chooses duty over family. The greater good over personal interests.

“Surely in 2020, for Her Majesty and the royal family to retain any authority and respect, if she believes child sex slavery is a scourge that needs to be eradicated, and has any empathy for the dozens of victims of Jeffrey Epstein, then she simply has no option but to compel Andrew to fully co-operate with authorities.

“To quote former Australian of the Year, David Morrison: ‘The standard you walk past is the standard you accept.’”

On Thursday, Ms Maxwell faced a New York City judge remotely.

Prosecutors accused her of building a rapport with girls as young as 14, then helping Epstein to sexually exploit them.

It is alleged she sometimes also took part in the abuse herself.

Erin Molan scores new gig amid ugly saga with Andrew Johns

Erin Molan is set to host Channel Nine’s coverage of the Women’s T20 World Cup in a new twist of the ugly saga surrounding both her and Andrew Johns.

Fans gave Nine a lashing last year after Australian tennis legend Todd Woodbridge hosted their coverage of the Ashes series in England.

Since Nine and Seven switched their coverages of the cricket and tennis last year, Ashes coverage had little to no recognisable cricket hosts.

The issue arises again with the upcoming Women’s T20 World Cup as Molan gears up to host the cricket starting on Friday.

Molan and Bracey were both used to host Nine’s coverage of the Australian Open in January, as well as the NRL in 2019.

She will be joined by fellow NRL host James Bracey, with Woodbridge not required.

However, drama continued to follow Molan as it is reported both she and Johns had an ugly falling out in 2019.

It was initially reported by The Sunday Telegraph that Johns had walked out on his role on Friday night football due to an “awkward” falling out with Molan.

While John began the 2019 season of the show alongside Molan, he disappeared halfway throughout the year and was subsequently replaced by Billy Slater.

It was a move that Channel Nine defended as a kind gesture from Johns to allow Slater more air time.

Johns himself denied the reports, telling the Telegraph: “Where did you hear that from? Good old rugby league just thrives on rumours and innuendo.”

Erin appeared in an interview a few months later, and seemed to show she felt the heat from loyal fans.

She was brought to tears in an interview on WSFM in October, where she broke her silence on the Johns saga while in an interview with Jonesy and Amanda.

“I am so sorry, I haven’t put my contacts in this morning. I had a rough night. I didn’t sleep very well and these are prescriptions,” Molan explained as she was wearing sunglasses.

Brendan Jones and Amanda Keller both threw their support behind Molan - bringing the Channel Nine presenter to tears.

“I get emotional with this Erin, I don’t understand why people give you a hard time,” Keller said.

“It pisses me off. And I think it’s because you are so professional and you are so good at your job, that I think that men don’t like you being good at what they still see as their world.

“I admire the pants off you or the eyeballs off you and I just think you are the most professional female and it’s threatened everybody.”

Keller was also brought to tears after seeing Molan break down.

“George the thief!”: MasterChef judge slammed for branding Curtis Stone a thief after $8 million wage theft saga

George Calombaris has faced a hefty $200,000 penalty for underpaying 515 restaurant staff members between 2011 and 2017 by nearly $8 million.

And during Sunday night’s episode of MasterChef Australia viewers slammed the celebrity chef for labelling Curtis Stone a “mustard thief”.

Curtis joined George and Gary Mehigan to take part in a Mystery Box challenge and during the cook off, he snuck into the “banned” pantry for some sauce.

The challenge required the chefs to only be able to use a limited amount of ingredients which were chosen by the contestants and one item from the garden.

Not entirely happy with his rainbow trout dish, Curtis had a plan: “I wish I had a little bit of mustard. Do you think I can sneak into the pantry?”

He then put his cunning scheme into action by telling the contestants: “Distract Matt [Preston], I’m going to go get some mustard.”

But it didn’t take long for Matt to realise what was happening, as he immediately flashed a yellow card and forced the 43-year-old to sit out for three minutes.

George, who was oblivious to what had just happened, asked Curtis: “What happened to you?” and upon hearing, yelled out: “Noooo.”

While it may have been a humorous moment, viewers took to Twitter to point out the irony of George labelling someone a thief.

“The awkwardness of when George accuses another chef of being a thief,” one user wrote.

“Irony abounds as Curtis Stone self-identifies as a ‘mustard thief’ to George who replies ‘hold my beer’,” said another.

“I’d rather be a mustard thief than a wage thief,” wrote a disgruntled viewer.

“No one cares what George the Thief has to say,” said another.

The 40-year-old has been hit with a $200,000 fine for underpaying 515 members of his staff by close to $8 million.

Issuing a statement to The Herald Sun, he apologised and said he is “deeply sorry for what has happened”.

“There are two important things for Australians to know. The first is when we discovered there were incorrect payments to members of their team, we self reported to the Fair Work Ombudsman and co-operated with their investigation,” George stated.

“The second is that our team members, past and present, have been back-paid in full, and the vast majority repaid before October 2017 in consultation with Fair Work.

“There is no excuse for this, and we have the systems in place now.”

Orlaith Belfrage, a former waitress at George’s Hellenic Republic in Melbourne, demanded for the celebrity chef to be fired from MasterChef.

“George should pay a serious price for this massive theft of workers’ wages,” she told the ABC.

“He should be taken off MasterChef. How many more excuses does George get?”

But Channel Ten is rallying behind the star, as they have shown their full support.

“George and Made Establishment have reached an agreement with the Fair Work Ombudsman in relation to this matter. George has the support of Network 10. We will not be making any further comment,” said a spokesperson.

Star opens up on Oscar Pistorius and Reeva Steenkamp "love triangle" saga

South African rugby star Francois Hougaard has opened up on the long-running rumours that a text message that he sent to Reeva Steenkamp sparked her brutal murder, which was done by Paralympic star Oscar Pistorius six years ago.

Steenkamp was shot dead by Pistorius through the bathroom door of his home in the early hours of Valentine’s Day in 2013.

Pistorius is serving a prison sentence of more than 13 years for her murder.

Oscar Pistorius in court

Now, Hougaard has opened up about how he was put in the middle of the media inquest in 2013 due to reports that claimed a text he sent was the catalyst of the murder.

Hougaard told The Daily Mail:

“Reeva and I dated for quite a while.

“One of my best mates phoned me at seven o’clock when I was playing golf to tell me what had happened. He was the first to get to the house. It’s a shock when you hear something like that, isn’t it? It’s tough.

“Everyone was saying I sent Reeva a message and that’s why he shot her. I had nothing to do with her any more but it’s all people were asking me about. Mentally, that was a really tough thing to go through.”

Hougaard, 31, was involved in the lengthy court case and shared how he stopped the mental pressure from impacting his performance as a rugby player.

Francois Hougaard

“It was tough because rugby is 80 per cent mental. If you’re not mentally where you need to be, then you’re not going to play well,” he said.

“I went to see a psychologist to talk about it. That taught me to deal with negative situations. That taught me to turn things into positive fuel and not to sulk.

“When you’re young, you might wake up with a sore shoulder and think, ‘Ah, I’m not really keen for training.’ Once something really seriously bad happens, it just adds some perspective. You don’t sulk about getting dropped or a niggle. It makes you appreciate what you’ve got.”

Bunnings snag saga: Over 8000 people to attend protest

Bunnings Warehouse isn’t just a hardware store, it’s an Australian icon.

And with Aussies all over the country visiting the national icon every weekend for a sausage sizzle, you could imagine the outrage when Bunnings decided to change the way they assemble its sausage sandwiches.

Many consider the simple sausage, onions, sauce and bread combo an Aussie masterpiece that shouldn’t be messed with, but that’s exactly what Bunnings did after it cited safety concerns for its decision on placing the onions at the bottom of the bun rather than the top.

“Safety is always our No 1 priority and we recently introduced a suggestion that onion be placed underneath sausages to help prevent the onion from falling out and creating a slipping hazard,” said Debbie Poole, Bunnings’ chief operating officer.

And the decision was not taken lightly, as fans took to social media to voice their outrage over the controversial decision. While the announcement was made early last week, the decision is still top priority for people around the nation, because of course, Bunnings’ sausage sizzle should always take precedence.

To prove how frustrated customers are, a protest has been organised through Facebook where those who attend will throw onions on the ground in order to prove a point.

The event, which is titled, “Throwing your onion on the ground at Bunnings and then slipping”, is set to take place at Bunnings in Chatswood, Sydney, on December 15.

“Protest this disgrace of REORDERING the snags at Bunnings by throwing your onion on the ground and slipping on it,” says the description.

The event currently has 8000 people attending and that number is predicted to increase even further.

Bunnings is making people doing BBQs put the onion on the bread, then sausage, because onions can be a trip hazard if they fall off the bread when they're on top https://t.co/xke1fb48qg
— Josh Butler (@JoshButler) 13 November 2018

What an outrage! Roger Federer breaks silence on Serena Williams sexism saga

Tennis superstar Roger Federer has opened up about the Serena Williams US Open sexism debacle, saying the game could use the incident as a catalyst for change.

Williams caused worldwide controversy after claiming umpire Carlos Ramos displayed sexist behaviour and racism during her US Open final loss to Naomi Osaka.

Tennis stars and the sporting community were divided by her comments, as some agreed that Williams anger was justified, while others believed that it was poor sportsmanship.

Federer, who has had his own fair share of conflicts with umpire Fergus Murphy dating back to 2009, remained neutral when stating his views on the scandal.

“It’s interesting but I think it’s important to look at it,” Federer told KVUE.

“Every umpire has their own style, it’s just how it is in any sport.

“In tennis, you might have an umpire that gives more coaching violations and another guy goes more to time violation.

“You might get one guy who knows that this guy misbehaves quite often so I’ll give him a warning quicker or I’ll be more lenient with a guy because he’s a nice guy and just can’t control himself. I think it really depends on the situation.”

While the champion tennis player believes that mistakes occurred on the court, the 20-time grand slam champion hoped that sexism had nothing to do with it.

“I hope it’s not the case (that there is gender bias) but I think what happened, obviously there were mistakes along the way and there should be more discretion sometimes.

“At the same time, they have to do their job, that’s what we want them to do.

“It’s been tricky but a really interesting case to study."

A report from the New York Times revealed that male tennis players are three times more likely to be punished or fined for racquet abuse.

Male players were fined 1517 times compared to women who were fined 535 times, according to data compiled by officials at Grand Slam tournaments for the period covering 1998 to 2018.

However, Williams who spoke on The Project for the first time since the incident, refused to back down with her argument.

“I just don’t understand … if you’re a female you should be able to do even half of what a guy can do,” she told The Project.

“I feel it’s really important to stand up for what you believe in.

“Especially if it can affect the future and affect a lot of people in the future. That’s what it’s all about.

“Really it’s just about having a great team and rolling up your sleeves and hard work.

“I work really, really hard at my game. And then I work super hard at my fashion business. And I’m working incredibly hard at being a mom.”

Do you agree with Serena's views? Let us know in the comments below.
