In the age of eBooks, it seems the humble library is suffering. Funding is often low, and attendance isn’t always what it once was. But a book by journalist Alex Johnson is hoping to shine a light on the history of libraries, and draw people back to the well-thumbed books they may have forgotten were there.
Improbable Libraries looks at libraries around the world, from portable ones carried on camelback, to ones hanging from trees. Take a look at some of the beautiful libraries from the new book, and then maybe pay a visit to your own local library – it might not be there forever.
