Oprah “actively thinking” about running for president
Oprah Winfrey has sparked calls to run for president after her powerful speech at the Golden Globes.
Accepting the Cecil B DeMille Award, the former talk show host delivered a poignant speech, calling out sexual harassers, celebrating black women and telling young girls everywhere "a new day is on the horizon".
The first black woman to receive the award for "outstanding contributions to the world of entertainment", the 63-year-old’s rousing call to action brought the crowd to its feet and calls for her to run for office.
CNN is reporting that Oprah is “actively thinking” about running for president in 2020 and that some of her close friends and fellow celebrities have been urging her to run.
Winfrey’s longtime partner Stedman Graham also piqued interest in the possibility after he told the Los Angeles Times: “It’s up to the people. She would absolutely do it.”
Gayle King, Winfrey’s best friend, continued: “I thought that speech was incredible. I got goosebumps.”
