Top Gun: Maverick surpasses $1 billion worldwide

Tom Cruise’s Top Gun: Maverick has officially surpassed $1 billion at the worldwide box office.

Over the weekend, the film saw a huge $30.5 million domestically and $44.5 million in overseas markets.

This overall totals to $521 million domestic and $484 million international, putting it just past $1 billion globally.

According to Paramount, more than 16 percent of the Top Gun: Maverick audience has seen the film more than once in theatres, while four percent have seen it four times or more.

This is only the second time since the pandemic began that a Hollywood title jumped over the $1 billion behind Sony and Disney’s Spider-Man: No Way Home ($1.89 billion).

The movie officially became the highest-grossing movie of Cruise’s career when it toppled over $800 million.

His 2018 film Mission Impossible: Fallout previously held the highest rank with $791.1 million.

Analysts don’t think the momentum will last long with Elvis hitting the screens and Top Gun sitting around the $900 million mark.
