The top 10 most popular wedding songs revealed
In days gone by, Michael Bublé pretty much had weddings covered, but these days it’s Ed Sheeran all the way for newlyweds swaying together in their first slow dance as a married couple.
Music streaming service Spotify has released a list of the most popular songs saved under “first dance” and it seems Kiwis follow the world when it comes to romance. Ed Sheeran’s “Thinking Out Loud” tops both the global and New Zealand list of first dance favourites.
He also makes an appearance at New Zealand’s number nine with his lesser known 2014 track, Tenerife Sea.
“Thinking Out Loud” beats out timeless wedding classic and former number one place holder, Etta James' "At Last" and Michael Bublé’s “Everything”, which comes in at number eight globally and number four in New Zealand. He might have taken a dive in popularity after he said he was sick of being asked to sing at weddings. When the mushy stuff is over, wedding-goers like to party to Mark Ronson’s “Uptown Funk”, Whitney Houston, Beyoncé, Michael Jackson and Pharrell.
