5-second trick to speed up iPhone and iPad

When your iPhone or iPad begins to run slower than you’d like, the standard advice is to reset the device or delete some apps to free up some space. But not anymore.

Self-confessed Apple enthusiast Marc Forrest posted on his blog a new trick to clear memory on any iOS device without resetting it. Here’s step-by-step guide to making your slow device much faster.

1. Unlock your iPhone or iPad. You should be looking at a lit display like your home screen, but not a lock screen.

2. Like you are about to turn off your device, hold down the power button (top-right of device) until the “slide to power off” option appears on the display.

3. Release the power button, then hold down the home button for around five seconds. The phone should return to your display screen.

And that’s it, your device’s memory or RAM is refreshed!

Forrest explains on his blog, “A few people have asked about the benefit, and from my understanding it clears the unused RAM on the phone. I have done a number of tests to see if it works and I can promise it helps speed the phone up, a LOT!”
