"Everything comes to an end": Kochie drops more hints on Sunrise future
Sunrise host David Koch has disappeared from the Channel Seven morning show just days after making a bold statement about his retirement.
Kochie, 67, was noticeably absent from the hosting chair last week as he attended a technology conference in Perth, with Matt Shirvington standing in in his place.
Expecting Kochie's return on Tuesday morning, Shirvington was once again in the hosting chair alongside Nat Barr with Kochie nowhere to be seen.
Seven told Daily Mail Australia on Tuesday afternoon that Kochie flew to Melbourne on Friday to support Seven Network's annual fundraiser, the Good Friday Appeal, in aid of the Royal Children’s Hospital.
The network says he "took time out from his Easter annual leave to be involved" and will continue his absence from Sunrise for the rest of the week.
Kochie's disappearance comes just days after he told the Herald Sun that he is looking to scale things back, as he starts to look at what life will be like when he retires from Sunrise.
"I have been doing it almost 21 years. I love it, I still have a passion for it, but I want a bit more flexibility in my life," he explained.
"My wife Libby and I want to enjoy our lives and Channel Seven are happy to help."
Kochie signed a two-year contract extension with Seven in late 2022 that will see him stay with Sunrise until at least 2024 - although he negotiated for "greater flexibility" with his working commitments.
"Everything has to come to an end. I have got the flexibility to do it on my terms and I am incredibly grateful I have that opportunity," he added.
