“I was set up”: Succession star slams awkward interview
Nicholas Braun has spoken out about the awkward moment he was cut off during an interview on The Project, claiming he was “set up”.
The actor, who is in Australia promoting the new season of Succession, appeared on the Channel Ten panel show on Sunday night in what became a tense chat with hosts Sarah Harris and Hamish Macdonald.
Fans were angered when Braun was abruptly cut off during the interview, as the 34-year-old actor was sharing an anecdote about when he met Hollywood director Quentin Tarantino.
Braun has now spoken out about the interview moment at a VIP screening of Succession Episode Two, saying he wished he had a “few more minutes” to speak.
“I had this guy yelling in my ear saying it was a minute left and all this stuff then they asked me to tell the story about Quentin Tarantino,” he told The Daily Telegraph.
“I must have had only like 20 seconds left. I was set up to just yell at the end. I think I managed to finish the story. I just wish I had a few more minutes or it was in person. Next time maybe I can do it on the desk or read some news.”
During his interview on The Project, Braun was sharing how he met Tarantino onboard a plane when he was 21, and attempted to pitch himself to the director with a magazine ad of his children’s flick, Minutemen.
“So I saw Quentin and he was in first class and I walked past him. And when I got to my seat I was like, ‘I have to do something, I have to say something to Quentin,’” Braun said via video link from Melbourne.
“So I ripped the [movie] ad off the back of the magazine and I brought it to Quentin and I was like ‘Hi Quentin, you don’t know me but this is me here on this ad’,” he explained.
However, Braun was unable to finish telling the incredible story as Harris cut him off, saying, “We’re running out of time” as they had to go to a commercial break before a live cross with Kerri-Anne Kennerley, who is currently competing on I’m A Celebrity … Get Me Out Of Here!.
