Karl and Piers mock Harry and Meghan’s unique baby name
Karl Stefanovic has poked fun at the name of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s newborn baby girl, Lilibet ‘Lili’ Diana Mountbatten-Windsor.
While in conversation with Piers Morgan on Today, Karl admitted he wasn’t a fan of the tiny tot’s name, asking the controversial British host: “What did you make of the name Lilibet? Does it sound like a sports betting app?”
Australia’s betting apps including Unibet, Sportsbet and Pointsbet has been compared to Lilibet’s name.
It was revealed however that Meghan and Harry’s name choice was deeply personal to them and the Queen.
Growing up as a child, young Elizabeth had trouble pronouncing her name so often opted for Lilibet.
The pronunciation of the name stuck after her grandfather King George V began calling her Lilibet.
Prince Philip, who recently passed, is also known to have referred to his beloved wife and Queen as Lilibet, telling his mother-in-law after their wedding, “Lilibet is the only 'thing' in the world which is absolutely real to me.”
Piers blasted Harry and Meghan for using the Queen's nickname, saying “I think it's quite ironic, isn't it?”
“You have this couple who have been trashing the royal family and the monarchy for the last few weeks and they have named the baby after the Queen.”
Piers went on to add: “Maybe it's their way of reaching out, as the Americans say, to the royals and wanting some kind of end to this on-running feud.”
“I always think when a new baby is born, I've had four myself it's churlish to put any negative slant.
“At such a moment. I wish them all the very best. There is four in the family now. I wish them every success and a long and happy life.”
