The “real reason” Sonia Kruger left Channel 9
A new report has claimed Sonia Kruger left Today Extra due to exhaustion from the grind of morning television.
The TV host is reportedly missing intimate time with her four-year-old daughter, Maggie, according to The Sunday Telegraph.
Earlier this month it was revealed Sonia was leaving Channel Nine for the Seven network after being offered a lucrative “seven figure deal”.
While her new role at the network is being kept under wraps, it is believed Seven Chairman Kerry Stokes is a “huge fan” of Kruger’s work.
Her new salary is believed to be a deal worth as much as $4 million over three years, or $1.3 million every year.
Sonia joined with Nine in 2011, however it is reported the TV personality and network hit a wall when negotiating a new salary when the three-year, $1.5 million contract reached its end.
She had an emotional farewell with her co-stars last week after announcing she would be departing from her job of 8 years.
Her last episode included a teary send-off, a highlights reel showing Kruger’s greatest moments on air, a balloon drop, champagne popping and a glamorous, two-tier cake.
“I have worked with some amazing people here at Channel Nine, and the audience at home I think are the ones who really deserve the thanks… for putting up with us,” she said.
David Campbell, her co-host, found it tricky to hold back his tears as he said goodbye to his long-time friend and fellow host.
“It's very sad... I never thought we'd have the opportunity to do this for this long and we have had the best time,” he said.
“I'm smiling through my pain today.”
There is rumours Kruger may be apart of a Big Brother reboot if she does indeed return to the network.
