Plan a fun “staycation” at home

Need a holiday but don’t have the time or means to jet away? Don’t worry, you can relax at home by creating your own “staycation” experience. Just designate a few days to you and follow these tips.

Have a digital detox – Turn off your phones, computers and television. You wouldn’t be glued to them if you were on the beach in Saint Tropez, so don’t use them during your staycation.

Hide the clocks – The greatest luxury of a holiday is the lack of time-pressure. Hide your clocks so you’re less likely to think of the things you have to do at a later date and are more likely to relax in the now.

Cook for a theme – Wish you were living it up in Greece but stuck at home? Cook a Mediterranean themed meal complete with all the stops. You’ll hardly remember you’re at home.

Hire a cleaner – In-hotel cleaning services are part of the magic of vacation. If this is one of your favourite parts that you don’t want to miss out on, shell out a bit of cash on a full cleaning service. Nothing is more relaxing than a spotless home that you didn’t have to clean yourself.

Set the soundtrack – Put on some tunes that remind you of the times you were happiest and most relaxed, or stick to a theme and put on songs reminiscent of the location by which you’re inspired.

Hit the lights – At night, dim the lights or put some candles on out doors to really set the tranquil mood. You might even want to hang some fairy lights for that full holiday beach feel.

Find a good book – Beach reads aren’t just for the beach. Take some time out of your day to read a good book, or a not-so-good book that you can’t seem to put down anyway. That’s the beauty of beach reads.

Bathe in luxury – Make your own herbal infused oils or bath bombs in advance of your staycation to relax to the max in your bathtub.

Hit the mat – Many resorts offer yoga classes during your stay. Emulate that resort feel while calming your mind and body with an online yoga class video. You can find one to suit your needs on YouTube by doing a quick search.

Change the sheets – Nothing beats that hotel bed feel. Upgrade your sheets or simply clean and use your best ones so that the end of your staycation is as magical as the start.
