Man arrested after spotted with an ‘AK-47’
A man has been spotted walking in a Sydney street with what appeared to be an AK-47 assault rifle, however, police later discovered the “weapon” in question was far from a gun.
Several people were quick to dial triple zero after spotting the man who appeared to be armed, as police rushed to the address in response.
Officers then discovered the “gun” was actually a bong, shaped like a rifle.
Officers watched CCTV from nearby businesses and helicopters were flying over the surrounding area to track down the man.
The footage led officers to a vehicle in a church car park, while the helicopter search found the man nearby.
"He was arrested and taken to Castle Hill Police Station where he was charged with possessing an unauthorised firearm and intimidation," police said.
"The 50-year-old man was refused bail to appear before Parramatta Local Court today.”
