Schapelle Corby: What her life looks like now
It has been more than two years since Schapelle Corby returned to Australian soil, after serving nine years in Bali’s Kerobokan Prison for smuggling more than four kilograms of marijuana in her boogie board bag.
The Queenslander first caught public attention when she was caught with the cannabis at Denpasar’s Ngurah Rai Airport in October 2004. She was released on parole in February 2014, and arrived back in Brisbane in May 2017 after spending three years on parole on the Indonesian island.
Today, the 42-year-old reportedly resides on the Gold Coast and she has been sharing glimpses into her life with her 169,000 followers on Instagram.
One of the things she did since coming back to the land down under was renewing her driver's license.
She has also gone on trips with her partner Ben Panangian, a convicted Balinese drug offender whom she met at a church service in prison in 2006. Panangian runs a stand-up paddle boarding business on Kedonganan Beach.
Due to his criminal background, Panangian’s chances of obtaining an Australian visa are slim. It is also unlikely that Corby will be able to re-enter Indonesia. However, the couple have reunited multiple times overseas. According to WHO, Corby and Panangian met up in Singapore and went to enjoy a two-week vacation in Vietnam together last year. In April, Corby also shared a picture of them posing hand-in-hand at Nai Yang Beach in Thailand.
