Princess Diana’s “shame bike” sells at auction for hefty sum
A bicycle once used by Princess Diana has sold at auction for a shocking $79,000.
Barry Glazer, Baltimore attorney, bid $79,000 for the blue Raleigh bicycle during a Burstow & Hewett Auctioneers auction in East Sussex last week.
The bike was used by Princess Diana before her marriage to Prince Charles and had to be sold as the palace thought it was "not fit for a princess".
The press quickly began calling it Diana's "shame" bike and the Princess quickly sold it.
Glazer has big plans for the bike as he will be "setting up a memorial dedicated to the British Family's basic racist roots".
"The memorial will be set up in an enclave in his office located in a historic building, utilised by the underground 'railroad' to assist slaves to freedom in Baltimore," the statement said.
African slaves were shipped to Baltimore by the English in 1642 to work on tobacco plantations.
Glazer's firm said that the bike had become a "famous symbol of Diana's oppression".
He also referenced comments made about racism by Prince Harry and Meghan Markle during their interview with Oprah Winfrey.
"The memorial is particularly relevant now considering the present controversy with Harry and Meghan accusing their Royal Family of racism," the statement continued.
"[Glazer] explained that the Royal Family's claim for superiority is rooted in the logic of white supremacy," the statement said.
