Alex McKinnon's dream comes true as he ties the knot

Former NRL player Alex McKinnon has married his long-term girlfriend Teigan Power in the Hunter Valley in NSW.

On Saturday night, Teigan revealed to her Instagram followers that the couple would tie the knot on Sunday.

“Tomorrow is the day we say ‘I do’ to the rest of our lives,” she wrote alongside a photo of the duo.

Alex shared the same photo and wrote, “Not long now”.

At the age of 22, the athlete’s rugby league career was cut short after he suffered a devastating spinal cord injury playing for the Newcastle Knights in March 2014.

He was diagnosed a quadriplegic and proposed to Teigan just days after the accident from his hospital bed.

The couple’s journey has been inspirational and Alex fulfilled his promise to rise from his wheelchair on their wedding day.

Teigan has shared progress of Alex’s rehabilitation on social media including a video of him walking with the help of a frame and two medical staff.

So PROUD of all the hard work @alexmmckinnon puts into his rehab! We are back at @makingstridesau and he is smashing out the walking again🏃🏼 so grateful to have such a determined man by my side.

“So proud of all the hard work Alex McKinnon puts into his rehab,” she said.

Now 25, Alex said that he considers the progress he has made so far to be very lucky.

“A lot of people with spinal cord injuries aren’t improving three years down the track,” he told Fox Sports.

Brisbane Broncos player Darius Boyd was Alex’s best man and his wife Kayla posted a video of their daughter as the flower girl.
