Baby John Burgess gives health update from hospital
Australian TV legend and former game show host "Baby" John Burgess has updated his fans after a health scare saw him rushed to hospital last week.
The 78-year-old was admitted to intensive care in a Perth hospital last Thursday with a "serious bacterial infection".
John took to Twitter on Saturday to apologise to his followers for not making his usual "Thank God It's Friday" joke, while providing an update on his condition.
"Sorry I couldn’t TGIF everybody; I am in Royal Perth Hospital with a serious bacterial infection leading to blood poisoning but the good folk here have got me on the road to recovery lets talk next week (TGIS)," he said.
John's manager Evan Broadway told The West Australian newspaper that Burgess was keen to get back to work as a radio announcer for a Perth station.
“He wanted to work Saturday, and we said, ‘Nah mate have the weekend off, just take the day off',” Mr Broadway said.
“But that’s just how loyal he is to his listeners.”
John is best known for hosting popular game shows such as Wheel of Fortune and Burgo's Catchphrase.
When news about his illness first broke, fans were quick to share their messages of support online.
