Boris Johnson names newborn son after doctors who saved his life
Boris Johnson and his fiancée Carrie Symonds have named their newborn son after the doctors who treated the British Prime Minister for COVID-19.
Symonds announced on Instagram that Wilfred Lawrie Nicholas Johnson was born on Wednesday.
“Wilfred after Boris’ grandfather, Lawrie after my grandfather, Nicholas after Dr Nick Price and Dr Nick Hart - the two doctors that saved Boris’ life last month,” Symonds wrote in a post on Saturday.
She thanked staff at University College London Hospital, adding: “I couldn’t be happier. My heart is full.”
The two doctors offered their “warm congratulations” to Johnson and Symonds.
“We are honoured and humbled to have been recognised in this way, and we give our thanks to the incredible team of professionals who we work with at Guy’s and St Thomas’ and who ensure every patient receives the best care,” they said in a statement.
“We wish the new family every health and happiness.”
The Queen also sent a private message of good wishes to the PM, Buckingham Palace said.
Johnson returned to work last week after becoming the first world leader to fall ill with coronavirus in March.
He is expected to take a “short period” of paternity leave later in the year.
