Captain Sir Thomas Moore's family plans intimate funeral
Captain Sir Thomas Moore's grandson revealed he wanted a "small, intimate" funeral.
"I don't think granddad would want a grand funeral," Teixeira told the Daily Star. "He'd like a small, intimate service with just the family. 'March in, march out,' he'd say. 'Pay your respects, then move on, get on with your lives'."
The beloved World War II veteran died of COVID-19 on January 31 in the UK at Belford Hospital, surrounded by family.
Sir Thomas came to global attention after being knighted by Queen Elizabeth last year at Windsor Castle. Moore managed to raise over $60 million for the NHS coronavirus relief by walking 100 laps of his garden with his walking frame.
After news of his death began circulating, tributes poured in from all over the world with 230,000 people signing a petition for him to have a state funeral, although his family politely declined.
Teixeira says he will remember his grandfather for his good deeds and love for his family and late wife Pamela who died in 2006.
"He wasn't just a war hero and a fundraising machine," his grandson said. "To us, he was a family man. He believed he'd be reunited with grandma.
"He wasn't afraid of death."
