Hugh Jackman’s health scare
Hugh Jackman has announced he is awaiting confirmation that he has skin cancer.
The Aussie actor shared that he had undergone two biopsies from his nose for what could be basal cell carcinomas.
"Basal cell, in the world of skin cancers, is the least dangerous of them all," he said in a video posted to Instagram.
"I'll find out in two or three days."
Basal cell carcinoma is the most frequently occurring of all cancers, with the most common treatment being surgery, if the cancer isn't removed in its entirety by the biopsy.
In the wake of his health news, Hugh urged his fans to be safe in the sun and protect your skin from harmful UV rays.
"Please wear sunscreen, it is just not worth it,” he said.
"No matter how much you want a tan. Trust me, trust me, trust me.”
"This is all stuff that happened 25 years ago, it's coming out now."
Hugh captioned his video with another public service announcement, writing, “I know you’ve heard me talk about my basal cell carcinomas before. I’m going to keep talking about them, if need be.”
“And if it reminds even one person to put on sunscreen with a high SPF, then I’m happy.”
Fans were quick to comment messages of well wishes, with one person saying, “Praying it’s nothing. Thank you for using your platform to help others.”
Another wrote, “Just booked an appointment with a dermatologist because of this post.”
This is not the first time Hugh has had a cancer scare, after previously being treated for skin cancer six times in the past.
