“I love you”: John Travolta’s tribute to Jett
John Travolta penned a message to his son, Jett, on what would have been his 29th birthday.
The tribute was shared on Instagram on Tuesday, April 13, the day Jett was born, alongside a photo of Travolta with his son.
“Happy birthday my beautiful Jetty. I love you,” the Grease star wrote.
Travolta’s daughter, Ella, also shared her own tribute to her late brother. The 21-year old captioned a photo of them together as kids with, “I love you Jetty. Happy Birthday”.
Jett passed away in January 2009 while the family was on holiday in the Bahamas. The 16-year old had suffered a seizure and hit his head at their holiday home at the Old Bahama Bay Hotel on Grand Bahama Island.
This marks the first birthday since Travolta’s wife, Kelly Preston’s passing at 57 after a two-year battle with breast cancer.
After their son’s death, Travolta and Preston confirmed that Jett had autism and would have seizures regularly. On an episode of The Doctors in November 2012, Preston opened up about Jett’s autism.
“He was autistic. He had seizures and when he was very young, he had Kawasaki syndrome,” she explained.
Fans shared messages of support for Travolta and hoped that Jett and Kelly would be celebrating together.
“I believe he and Kelly are together (again) forever … I hope you have found comfort in that, in some small measure at least,” one commenter wrote.
