"It was too late": Home and Away star Lynne McGranger recalls Belinda Emmett thinking her cancer was "just a cyst"
Home and Away icon Lynne McGranger has opened up about the tragic death of her co-star Belinda Emmett in 2006.
McGranger appeared on The All New Monty: Ladies Night on Sunday night to raise awareness of breast cancer.
During her emotional speech, she revealed that when Belinda first found a lump in her breast, she thought it was just a cyst.
"I would be absolutely honoured [to do the show] and I have to tell you why," the 66-year-old actress said in the clip.
"I worked with Belinda Emmett. She was 23 at the time, and I clearly remember we were talking about about breast cancer.
"I remember her sitting in the makeup chair [saying] 'I've got a little lump'."
McGranger continued telling her story through tears.
"And we all went... [gasps]. And she said, 'Oh, no, look. It'll be just a cyst.'
"And I think we hounded her enough, over the weeks and months that followed. And she did get it seen to, but of course, as we know, it was too late.
"It was so sad. We all know somebody," she said.
Belinda was originally diagnosed with breast cancer in 1998, when she was 24.
In 2001, she was diagnosed with secondary cancer in her spine and tragically passed away six years later in 2006.
