M*A*S*H star passes away at age 75
M*A*S*H star David Ogden Stiers has sadly passed away at the age of 75, following a prolonged battle with bladder cancer. The actor, who played Major Charles Winchester in the hit show, died peacefully at his home in Newport, Oregon.
His agent, Mitchell K. Stubbs, confirmed the passing with a statement on Twitter.
“I am very sad to report that David died this morning March 3, 2018 peacefully at his home in Newport, Oregon after a courageous battle with bladder cancer. His talent was only surpassed by his heart,” read the message.
Stiers’ long career included stints on the Mary Tyler Moore Show, North and South, and Murder, She Wrote, but he’ll always be remembered for his role on M*A*S*H from 1977 to 1983, which would earn the actor two Emmy nominations.
Stiers was born in Peoria, Illinois, attending the University of Oregon briefly before relocating to San Francisco where he began improv and performing for the Actors Workshop.
He also studied at the prestigious Julliard School.
Our thoughts are with his family at this sad time.
