Princess Christina of Netherlands passes away at 72
The Dutch Royal house has confirmed the death of Princess Christina of the Netherlands.
The sister of the former Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands lost her battle with bone cancer on Friday morning at the Noordeinde Palace, Netherlands.
A heartfelt tweet by King Willem-Alexander, Queen Maxima and Beatrix described the royal as a “striking personality with a warm heart".
Princess Christina was a public-shy royal and preferred to spend her time out of the limelight – her wish was granted when she divorced from her former husband Jorge Guillermo in 1996 and was removed from the line of succession.
The royal’s decision to relinquish her right to the throne created room for herself to lead her own life. "A life dominated by family, her great love of music and development of young singing talent,” said Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte, according to the Mirror.
Princess Christina spent her life living all across the world, including Italy, USA, Canada and more recently London.
Christina leaves behind her three children with Guillermo – Bernardo, Nicolas and Juliana.
