Steve McQueen's only son dies
Chad McQueen, the only son of Steve McQueen, has tragically died at the age of 63.
Chad made a name for himself with an acting role in The Karate Kid, while also becoming a film producer, martial artist and race-car driver.
McQueen's wife and children broke the news of Chad's death in an emotional statement, vowing to continue the legacy of McQueen and his famous father, Steve McQueen.
"It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of our father Chad McQueen," the statement, shared to McQueen and Steve McQueen's official Instagram accounts this morning, began.
"His remarkable journey as a loving father to us, along with his unwavering commitment to our mother, truly exemplified a life filled with love and dedication," the statement continued.
"His passion for racing not only highlighted his exceptional talent, but also served as a way to honour his father's legacy, a testament to the values instilled in him."
"He passed his passion, knowledge and dedication down to us and we will continue not only his legacy but our grandfather's as well. As a family we need to navigate this difficult time and we kindly ask for privacy as we remember and celebrate his extraordinary life."
The statement was signed "with heartfelt gratitude" by McQueen's wife of 31 years, Jeanie Galbraith, and their two children, 29-year-old Chase McQueen and 28-year-old Madison McQueen.
According to McQueen's long-term attorney, Arthur Barens, McQueen died from organ failure following an injury sustained a few years ago, which caused progressive organ failure.
