Watch: Infant hears mother’s voice for the first time

A nine-week infant hears his mother’s voice for the first time after receiving new hearing aids.

Nine-week old Elijah cook was born profoundly deaf, likely as a result of genetics, as his grandparents on both sides of the family were deaf.

Elijah now has tiny hearing aids that allow him to hear clearly. He looks shocked and responsive as he hears his mother’s voice for the first time in his life.

“The first time I saw him blink, I had a lot of emotions,” his mother said. “I was trying really hard not to cry. I didn’t want him to see me cry. I was trying hard to keep it together and just talk to him.”
